Last Thursday, our school held a special event called “Tradition Meets Technology” to help us experience the charm of combining traditional culture with modern technology.
The event had many amazing activities. First, we put on VR headsets to “visit” the Terracotta Warriors. The 3D technology made the ancient soldiers look so real that we felt like we were traveling back to the Qin Dynasty. Next, a local paper-cutting master taught us to make traditional window flowers through a live stream. Students in the hall and online viewers both followed her steps, and we shared our works on social media. The most interesting part was the AI poetry station. We entered keywords like “spring” or “family,” and the AI generated beautiful poems in classical styles within seconds.
Through these activities, I realized that technology can make traditional culture more lively and accessible. The VR experience made history come alive, while the live stream and AI showed how new tools can help us inherit traditions. I hope more schools will organize such events, and we should all actively explore ways to let our rich culture shine in the modern world.

①Behind every success lies a simple truth: people who often celebrate small wins achieve more. It’s not about holding big parties for every little good thing. It’s about having a winner’s way of thinking. Notice, praise and value these small victories, and use them to keep moving forward.
②Small wins hold the power to make a difference. When we realize every tiny bit of progress we make and value it, it will boost our motivation and bring us joy. As we see ourselves getting closer to our goals step by step, our brain will send a positive signal : “This is working!” It will keep pushing us to move forward without stopping. In fact, our choice to value or ignore small wins will bring about completely different results in our life.
③When we choose to value small wins and take the time to celebrate each one, we start a positive cycle (循环). A basketball player who raises his fist (拳头) after a successful shot isn’t just showing his excitement. At this moment, his brain thinks, “I did it!” He feels happy about winning. The good feeling stays with him, and next time he will be ready to try harder and fight for the ball. A student who rewards (奖励) himself with a cup of hot drink after finishing a study task is doing the same thing. Over time, our minds form a pattern (模式): ▲ .
④However, if we ignore small wins and stop celebrating them, we will break this positive cycle and focus on failures instead. This often leads to giving up. For example, if a person who wants to get fit only cares about losing 10 kilograms in a month, and never celebrates small things like exercising for 30 minutes, he will easily feel discouraged and even want to quit the fitness plan.
⑤So how can we make use of the power of small wins in daily life? First, break big goals into small tasks. Instead of planning to write a whole book, try to write 300 words a day and celebrate when you finish. Second, keep a notebook to record all your small wins. Third, reward yourself with something small, like a short walk or a piece of your favorite snack.
⑥Celebrate every small win, and you will make success a habit.
24. Which sentence uses “boost” with the same meaning and use as the underlined word?
boost /buːst/ v. ①使增长 ②偷窃 (非正式) n. ①帮助,激励 ②增长,提高
A. Your kind words are such a great boost to my self-confidence.
B. The new theme park will bring a boost to the local business.
C. The thief was caught boosting a phone from the department store.
D. This activity will greatly boost our interest in English learning.
25. Which of the following can be put in the ▲ ?
A. small rewards→ small wins→ small tasks
B. small wins→ positive feelings→ more efforts
C. big goals→ unavoidable mistakes →bad feelings
D. more efforts→ growing confidence →great success
26. What is the relationship between Paragraph② and Paragraph③?
A. Paragraph③ uses positive examples to explain the idea in Paragraph②.
B. Paragraph③ shows the bad results of following the idea in Paragraph②.
C. Paragraph③ tells us how to carry out the idea in Paragraph② as rules.
D. Paragraph③ talks about a new idea that has nothing to do with Paragraph②.
27. Which of the following shows the student uses the “small wins” idea?
A. Ben decides to finish his math workbook just in one day without having any rest.
B. Sam still feels sad about his bad test grades though he has done better than before.
C. Emily makes a 3-step plan for her project and rests for 10 minutes after each step.
D. Cindy asks her mom to buy her a big gift if she can finish her homework on time.
C
It was morning when I awoke. In daylight, I was able to think more clearly.
I realized that running around and shouting would not help me find the machine. Someone knew where it was. I had to find that person. I also had to make friends with the little creatures. I wanted the tools and metal from them that I needed in case I had to make another machine. But I now felt there was no real hurry. There was plenty of food, and no one was trying to hurt me.
I felt dirty and needed to wash, but I could not find a stream or pool. I walked around the garden for a while. There were not many little creatures in the garden, and I spoke to them gently. They just laughed and ran away from me as if I were some kind of game. Then, I came to the tracks of my machine. There were marks on the ground where it landed. I saw my footprints and, more interestingly, other footprints. These were too big and narrow to be the little creatures. I thought perhaps they belonged to some kind of animal. There was also a large pedestal (基座)made of stone. I knocked on it. It sounded hollow. There were no handles or keyholes, but there were panels. I thought my machine was probably inside the pedestal, but I could not figure out how to get it out.
There were some little creatures nearby. I went up to them and pointed at the pedestal. They were horrified. They made me feel as if I were being rude to someone of great importance. They ran away, so I ran after them and caught one. I pulled it back to the pedestal. It was terrified and tried to get away. It was so afraid of the pedestal that I let it go.
I picked up a large stone and began hitting the pedestal with it. I thought I heard a laugh from inside. Something moved inside the pedestal.
From The Time Machine by H. G. Wells

Scientists in Australia have used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help them save an endangered tiny bird called the Plains - wanderer, which lives in Australia’s grasslands, not just any grasslands. Plains - wanderers are picky. There can’t be too much grass or too little. For this reason, scientists sometimes call them the “Goldilocks” of animals.
The birds were common in eastern Australia. But that’s changed, as grasslands have been turned into farms and cities. As a result, the birds’ number has fallen by over 85% in recent years. Scientists believe there are now only 250 to 1,000 of the birds left in the wild.
Zoos Victoria, an organization that aims to save the bird, says, “There is no bird like it in the world.” The strange little birds are only about six inches tall. They’re not good at flying, so they spend most of their time on the ground. When they are afraid, they try to sit to hide themselves. One more thing that makes Plains - wanderers unusual is that the females are larger, and are in charge of protecting their home. The male birds are smaller and take care of the eggs.
To protect these birds, scientists first had to learn where they were. So Zoos Victoria worked with Queensland University of Technology on a plan to look for the birds. Since Plains - wanderers are hard to find, the team chose to “listen” for the birds instead. Female Plains-wanderers make an unusual “Ooom” call, and this was the key to finding them.
Thirty-five special recording machines called “song meters” were set up to record all the sounds made in nine different areas where Plains-wanderers could possibly have been. The song meters collected tens of hours of recordings and then the data was processed by an AI system. Happily, the AI system discovered Plains-wanderer calls coming from two of the places.
Chris Hartnett, who works with Zoos Victoria, said it was like “finding gold”. It’s the first time in over 30 years that the Plains-wanderer has been found in the west of Melbourne. The new information will help scientists protect the birds. And the researchers are still “listening” — using song meters and AI to try to find more of these Goldilocks birds.
32. Why are the Plains-wanderers sometimes considered as “Goldilocks” by the scientist?
A. Because they almost disappear.
B. Because they require a special living environment.
C. Because there is no enough grassland for them to live in.
D. Because they are tiny Australian birds with gold feathers.
33. What can we learn about the Plains-wanderers from the passage?
A. The Plains-wanderers are too short to run on the ground.
B. The number of the Plains-wanderers has increased in these years.
C. The Plains-wanderers are able to hide themselves to the forest when they are in fear.
D. The female Plains-wanderers are used to taking more responsibilities to guard their nest.
34. How did the scientists find the Plains-wanderers in the wild?
A. They used an AI system to learn the birds’ footprints.
B. They set up several machines to locate the birds’ calls.
C. They visited a university to look up information of the birds.
D. They designed a plan to look for the birds’ sounds with zoo - keepers.
35. Where can we probably find this passage?
A. A comic strip. B. A science fiction.
C. A nature report. D. A fashion magazine.
第二节、阅读填空(5分)
“Are we alone? What’s out there?” People have always looked up at the stars and wondered about space. 36 After many tests, they succeeded in making rockets that could overcome Earth’s gravity (重力). Ever since then, humans’ exploration (探索) of space has begun.
37 China’s space program started late in the last century, but it has made great progress in a short time. China became the third country in the world to independently send humans into space in 2003. 38 It is large enough to allow astronauts to carry out many important scientific studies. More recently, the Shenzhou-22 manned spaceship was successfully sent into space on November 25th, 2025.
Besides the exploration near the Earth, many countries are doing some research on other planets. For example, on July 23rd, 2020, China sent Tianwen-1 to explore the surface of Mars. Planets like Mars might be safe enough for humans to live on. 39
There is still a long way for humans to go to explore space. If you are interested in space walking, go for your dream. 40 Maybe you will become one of the engineers who work on China’s space exploration.
A. China has never stopped its steps exploring space.
B. So far, no more progress into the space has been made.
C. It certainly requires a lot of hard work and a strong will.
D. However, scientists made up their minds to make it come true.
E. In 2022, China completely set up its own space station, Tiangong.
F. This shows that exploring other planets could help find humanity’s future homes.

Among the most famous traditional Chinese paintings, there’s a very long handscroll of horses titled One Hundred Horses. To many people’s surprise, it was painted not by a Chinese artist but by an Italian named Giuseppe Castiglione.
Castiglione was better known in China by his Chinese name, Lang Shining (郎世宁). He was born in 1688 in Milan, Italy. In 1715, he traveled to Beijing. With experience as a muralist, he was invited to work as a court artist.
Seven years later, Emperor Yongzheng came to power. By then, Castiglione had already made a name for himself. He was famous for a unique style that combined Western and Chinese painting methods. In 1724, Yongzheng asked him to paint One Hundred Horses, a silk handscroll nearly eight meters long.
Painting on silk is no easy task. Once a brushstroke is placed, there is no going back. Castiglione first practiced on paper. After carefully planning every detail, he copied the design onto silk, stroke by stroke.
It took Castiglione four years to finish the painting. There is no record of how Emperor Yongzheng viewed it. But the following emperor, Qianlong, was deeply impressed and called the painting a masterpiece.
As its title suggests, One Hundred Horses shows about 100 horses in various poses (姿势). Some stand quietly, while others run, walk, drink water, roll on the ground or even fight. The painting’s large size alone is enough to impress most viewers. A closer look, however, may surprise you further. Castiglione skillfully combined Western realism with Chinese brushwork. The trees, horses and people appear lifelike, yet they were all painted with a Chinese brush.
In One Hundred Horses, humans and nature live side by side in peace, and so do Eastern and Western beauty. Perhaps this perfect balance is why Emperor Qianlong liked it so much.
51. What was Castiglione famous for?
52. When did Castiglione finish drawing One Hundred Horses?
53. Why did Castiglione practice painting One Hundred Horses on paper rather than silk?
54. What makes One Hundred Horses a masterpiece? (There should be more than one point.)
55. Please appreciate the painting from the four aspects. (Look-What can you see? Feel-How does it make you feel? Think-What do you think of it? Discover-What else do you want to know about it?)

第二节、回答问题(5小题,每小题2分,共10分)

27. 推理判断题。根据“First, break big goals into small tasks. Instead of planning to write a whole book, try to write 300 words a day and celebrate when you finish. Second, keep a notebook to record all your small wins. Third, reward yourself with something small, like a short walk or a piece of your favorite snack.”

第二节、回答问题(5小题,每小题2分,共10分)
【答案】51. A unique style combining Western and Chinese painting methods. 52. In 1728. 53. Because painting on silk can’t be corrected once started, so he practiced on paper to plan details first. 54. It shows about 100 horses in various poses and combined Western realism with Chinese brushwork. 55. Look: 100 horses in different poses, plus trees and people.
Feel: Amazed by the lifelike details and peaceful vibe.
Think: A brilliant mix of Eastern and Western art.
Discover: How he balanced the two painting styles.
【解析】本文讲述了意大利画家郎世宁,融合中西技法创作《百骏图》的故事。
51. 文章指出“He was famous for a unique style that combined Western and Chinese painting methods.”,郎世宁以融合了中西绘画技法的独特风格而闻名。
52. 文章指出“In 1724, Yongzheng asked him to paint One Hundred Horses, a silk handscroll nearly eight meters long.”和“It took Castiglione four years to finish the painting.”,1724年他开始作画,耗时四年完成,1724+4=1728。
53. 文章指出“Painting on silk is no easy task. Once a brushstroke is placed, there is no going back. Castiglione first practiced on paper. After carefully planning every detail, he copied the design onto silk, stroke by stroke.”,在丝绸上作画一旦落笔就无法修改,难度很高,所以他先在纸上练习,以便精心规划每一个细节。
During the Warring States Period, two well-known handsome men lived in the State of Qi, namely Zou Ji and Mr. Xu. One day, after dressing up carefully, Zou Ji asked his wife who looked ____56____(handsome) between him and Xu. Without hesitation, his wife praised him as the more attractive one.
Still feeling doubtful, Zou Ji turned to his concubine and a guest for the same question, but both gave identical flattering replies. It was not until Xu visited him in person that Zou Ji finally knew the truth—Xu was _____57_____(clear) much more handsome.
Reflecting on the lies, Zou Ji understood the reason behind them. Out of love, fear or personal needs, people around him chose to hide the truth. He shared this experience ____58__the king and warned that rulers _____59____(also surround) by biased voices and rarely heard sincere suggestions.
Deeply convinced, the king opened his door to public criticism. Countless people came to speak their minds, bringing great changes to the country. Before long, Qi grew strong and won respect from neighboring states. This ancient tale reminds us that straight advice often sounds uncomfortable, yet it helps us recognize weaknesses and keep improving ____60_____(we).
【答案】56. more handsome 57.clearly 58. With 59.were also surrounded 60.ourselves
由 between him and Xu 可知是两者之间比较,要用形容词比较级,handsome 的比较级为 more handsome。故填 more handsome。
57.clearly 副词用法题。修饰形容词比较级 much more handsome,需要用副词作状语,clear 的副词形式是 clearly。故填 clearly。
58.with 介词固定搭配题。固定搭配 share sth. with sb. 意为 “把某事分享给某人;向某人讲述某事”。故填 with。
59.were also surrounded 被动语态题。
