My family had a long-running cycle of growing up poor. Both my mom and dad came from large families with little more than the clothes on their backs. Their parents had also grown up with very little.
When I was five, I showed an interest in machinery. By Grade 3, I was learning to program using the BASIC language. Then, one day in high school, my computer science teacher suggested that I attend a computer camp. He gave me a brochure (小册子), and I excitedly took it home. That excitement quickly disappeared when my mom saw the price of the camp: several hundred dollars. That evening, I went into my room and cried my eyes out.
But a few weeks later, I got a phone call. It was the head of the computer camp telling me I had been admitted. I could hardly believe my ears. At that camp, I met many like-minded kids and learned how to build websites. It lit a fire in me.
Ten years later, I received another call from the camp director. “I’ve found something I think you’ll want to see,” he said, suggesting we meet. When we did, he pulled out a long handwritten letter that my mom had sent when I was 15. She wrote that I was a smart kid. She talked a lot about my early love for machinery and computers. She ended by saying she couldn’t afford the cost of the computer camp and hoped with all her heart that they would still accept me. I broke down crying at once.
Over the years, I continued to learn as much as I could. In 2014, I finally landed a job where I could use all my skills. Now, I’m proud to say that I’ve broken my family’s cycle of living poorly.
And all I want to do now is to sit down with my mom and thank her for everything she has done for me. Without her, I would never have the bright life I have today.

Since the popular TV series Born to Be Alive was shown, a large number of viewers have shared their thoughts online. Many think it feels like watching a documentary, as the series is filmed against the beautiful landscapes of Qinghai and is based on real stories.
Where Is Sanjiangyuan?
In the south of Qinghai Province lies Sanjiangyuan, the meeting place of waters that give birth to the Yangtze River, the Yellow River and the Lancang River. It provides around 60,000,000,000m3 of fresh water for eighteen provinces and five other countries every year, becoming an important water source for millions of people in China.
This land is rich in not only its water but many rare animals. However, it was once in danger because of hunting. The number of Tibetan antelopes (藏羚羊) dropped quickly from about 200,000 to fewer than 20,000. Born to Be Alive shows the efforts made to protect these animals.
Who Are the Guardians?
Born to Be Alive tells the story of Bai Ju, a young policewoman who joins a mountain patrol (巡逻) team. Together with Duo Jie, she fights against illegal (非法的) hunting and mining (采矿) and works hard to build a nature reserve.
The character Duo Jie is based on two real people: Jiesang Sonandajie and Qika Zabaduojie. They were pioneers of ecological (生态的) protection in Kekexili. In 1997, the first nature protection station in Kekexili was completed and put into use. Thanks to generations of protection efforts, there are now around 70,000 Tibetan antelopes.
What Is the “Life Tree”?
The answer is simple now. The “Life Tree” is Sanjiangyuan. The network of waters is like a tree of life. Seen from the air, the rivers spread out like branches and roots, forming a great trunk that holds the land together. Yet its meaning goes far beyond its shape. The patrol members are not only protecting Tibetan antelopes; they are guarding the animals and plants that depend on the area.
After watching the series, many viewers continue to search for the real stories behind Qinghai’s ecological protection. The province, once taking no notice of the situation, is now drawing more attention across the country. Perhaps, through stories like this, more people will learn to listen to the heartbeat of the earth.
33. How does the writer lead into the topic about Sanjiangyuan?
A. By showing the beauty of Qinghai Province. B. By introducing the popularity of the TV series.
C. By explaining the meaning of the “Life Tree”. D. By telling the moving stories of the characters.
34. What do we know about Sanjiangyuan according to the passage?
A. Its river system is like a huge tree of life. B. It is the only home of the Tibetan antelopes.
C. It is located in the north of Qinghai Province. D. It provides most fresh water for all of China.
35. What is the main purpose of writing this passage?
A. To explain what the “Life Tree” means to the living things on earth.
B. To describe the natural beauty of Sanjiangyuan and its importance.
C. To introduce the life stories of the people who protect Sanjiangyuan.
D. To tell how a TV series raised people’s awareness of protecting nature.
36. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
A. Question → Example → Reason B. Fact → Problem → Result
C. Introduction → Details → Conclusion D. Story → Comparison → Opinion
【答案】33. B 34. A 35. D 36. C

People hate mosquitoes due to their blood-sucking tendencies. Scientists, too, are troubled by mosquitoes and have been researching ways to keep them away.
A team of researchers from Virginia Tech in the U.S. looked into different kinds of soap. They invited volunteers to test how four different soap flavors attract mosquitoes.
After analyzing the mosquitoes’ behavior, the researchers discovered several chemicals in the soap that can influence the mosquitoes’ “choice of food”. Two chemicals, one with the smell of coconut and another with the scent (香味) of flowers, can keep mosquitoes away.
The team also found that what matters to mosquitoes is not the chemicals, but rather the combination (混合) of chemicals with each person’s smell. For example, people who attract mosquitoes can be more attractive to them after using one type of soap. They can also repel (驱除) mosquitoes by using another kind of soap. “The findings were remarkable,” said senior author Clement Vinauger in a news release, adding that he would choose a coconut-scented soap to keep mosquitoes away.
How these insects manage to find humans has also made scientists curious. According to a new study published in Current Biology, researchers built a “canteen” for hundreds of mosquitoes. In the 20-by-20-meter facility, there were six pads (垫子) that had the smell of different humans. The pads were heated to mimic (模仿) sleeping humans.
They found that mosquitoes can track scents up to 60 meters. Also, mosquitoes are most attracted to a kind of chemical called carboxylic acid (羧酸), which is usually produced by bacteria on human skin. The smell of one participant wasn’t attractive to the insects, and researchers believed it was due to the person’s diet, which is mainly plant-based foods.
By analyzing the chemicals that either attract or repel mosquitoes, scientists are able to improve mosquito repellent (驱蚊剂). With more studies, scientists believe changing a person’s diet could one day make them “mosquito-proof (防蚊的)”.
37. What did the researchers from Virginia Tech try to find out?
A. How mosquitoes choose food in a right way. B. What soap scents can keep mosquitoes away. C. Why mosquitoes prefer certain soap flavors. D. What kind of people attract mosquitoes most.
38. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Coconut-scented soap is the most useful in repelling mosquitoes.

“What do you think I should do?” asks your friend, as she sits beside you, waiting for your advice. This is no easy situation. Say something your friend disagrees with or something helpless, and you might feel you’ve disappointed her.
It’s human nature to want to offer solutions when someone comes to you with a problem. It’s also easy to fall into the trap of simply saying that “Everything will be OK”. ____41____ But we often say that because we believe we need to say something. This is because we’re glad that our friend has come to us for help, even if we don’t really think we’re able to give it. So is it a good idea to try to give advice at all? ____42____
In fact, friends often really only want someone to listen to them. It’s important to try to work out whether they’re actually asking for advice, or simply wanting to talk over whatever is going round in their head. ____43____ There’s no harm in asking whether they’d like you to give suggestions. It’s also important to be honest. If you’re unable to think of a way to solve your friends’ problem, just say so. Your friends won’t feel upset, and you can still listen carefully and try to put yourself in their shoes. ____44____ You can ask yourself “What would I do if I were to experience the same thing?” Later you can go back to your friends with a few helpful suggestions.
____45____ It can be hard to listen to your friends going over and over the same thing without being able to help them. They will certainly be thankful if you just allow them to “talk it out”, though. Maybe they’re building up courage to take action, and need to convince (说服) themselves they’re doing the right thing. Just being there for them may be all you have to do to make things better.
A. Friendship is the most important to us.
B. This is not actually useful for your friend.
C. The answer is yes if it’s done in the correct way.
D. Sometimes a problem doesn’t go away overnight.
E. Talking may make people feel better all by themselves.
F. Then you can go away and try to think of something helpful.
【答案】41. B 42. C 43. E 44. F 45. D

In any room, you can feel it before you see it—the person whose presence lights things up. It’s not about their titles or reputation. It’s energy, a kind of force that pulls people in, makes them want to help, stay, and believe.
The difference between energy and ability is that ability can be taught, while energy must be developed. You can copy someone’s skills, but not their heart. You copy their methods, but miss the thing that makes those methods work—their inner state.
Energy is built through intention (意图), character, and the way we treat others. High-energy people don’t just work hard—they believe, they uplift, they inspire. That’s what people remember, and that’s what they follow.
People, events, and environments are always influencing one another. You draw into your lives what mirrors your inner state. If you’re open-hearted, the world answers in kind, but if you’re self-doubting, life starts to mirror that back at you. The energy you carry is what you send out. And what you attract is not accidental. Everything you experience is related to the energy you carry. As your inner alignment (一致) is improved, you’ll notice that certain people or problems quietly fall away. The right ones will find you. Your outer reality will catch up with your inner state.
Basically, energy is where action, clearness, and creativity come from. When your energy is full, wisdom follows. You don’t have to force your way forward—life begins to answer in kind.
So how do you raise your personal energy? Not through willpower, but through deep self-tending (自我维护).
You raise your energy not by chasing more, but by throwing out what’s draining (耗尽) you. Are you always reacting to messages, or do you protect quiet time? Do your relationships make you more complete, or emptier?
High-energy people are calm and quietly powerful. They build an inner life that’s energetic, stable (稳定的) and self-respecting.
When you become a high-energy person, you stop chasing and start attracting. That quiet power is the force the world remembers.

D. To tell how a TV series raised people’s awareness of protecting nature.

B. The number of chemicals in soap greatly affects mosquitoes’ sleep.
C. The mix of chemicals and human smell influences mosquitoes’ behavior.
D. Washing without soap is a useful way to keep mosquitoes away.
39. What do we know about carboxylic acid according to the passage?
A. It is a chemical that helps keep mosquitoes away.
B. It can be used to keep mosquitoes away.
C. It helps mosquitoes attract other mosquitoes.
D. It is present on human skin and attracts mosquitoes.
40. How could people make themselves mosquito-proof in the future according to scientists?
A. By changing their genes. B. By eating certain foods.
C. By using certain types of soap. D. By carrying mosquito repellent.

六、阅读与回答问题(本题共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
请认真阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
