It has been a big worry because it’s  really large, about 337, 600 square kilometers and there are a lot of sandstorms that come from it. These sandstorms are very bad for the nature and the way people live around it. So, people started a big project to put a green belt (带) around the desert. By the end of 2023, a large part of a 2, 761 kilometerlong green belt had already been made around the desert. In 2024, the last 285 kilometers, mostly in the south of the desert where the sandstorms are super bad, were finished. Now the whole Taklimakan Desert has a green belt all around it. This Project has to do with six counties (县) in three parts of Xinjiang. The building of this green belt used many different scientific ways. For example, the China Railway Construction Development Group (中铁建发展集团) made a system to stop the sand. This system has three main things. There are tall things to stop the sand, squares made of straw (草方格) and wide lines of trees. These things work together well to stop the desert from getting bigger. When the green belt around the desert was successfully finished, it brought a lot of good things. First, it made the nature around the desert better. There are fewer and not as strong sandstorms now. Second, it kept the farming near the desert safe. So, farmers can grow food more easily. Also, the places where people live in cities and in the countryside are nicer. Because there are fewer sandstorms, there is less harm to the things like roads and buildings, and more people come to visit. So, the local people can make more money from having visitors. This project shows how much China wants to stop the desert from getting worse and make the nature better. 36.What is the main problem of the Taklimakan Desert that makes people worried? A.It is in the northwest part of China. B.It is the biggest desert in the country. C.It has a bad influence on the nature around it. Read the passage and answer the following questions.(前五小题每题2分,最后小题8分;共18分) 阅读短文,回答问题。 Feeling down? Hug a tree! Recently, many Chinese young people have found trees helpful for reducing stress. Although it looks strange, there’s a science behind hugging trees. It can be explained by the “biophilia hypothesis (亲生命假说)”. Just being outside in nature is good for your mental health. US scientist Edward Wilson first discovered it in 1984. According to him, humans are born to love being close to other living things. Human’s love for nature is “in our DNA”. This idea helps to explain why people prefer natural green views to city views. It’s also one of the reasons why people love cute pets. Some studies have looked into why tree-hugging can help with our health. After people hug trees, they often say that they feel calmer and more relaxed than those who do not. A study found that the activity can increase oxytocin (催产素). It’s a hormone (荷尔蒙) that controls how you feel. The more oxytocin you have, the happier you may be. Hugging trees for only 21 seconds can make your body show a higher level of oxytocin. Another hormone called cortisol (皮质醇) is a sign of stress. The brain creates more cortisol when a person is worried, angry or very sad. Hugging trees helps cut the process, which makes us feel better. Although the activity is helpful to us, it’s important to keep in mind that we should be kind when hugging trees. The tree is home to many small living things that are too small to be seen. We shouldn’t hurt nature while doing it. 47.When did US scientist first discover the “biophilia hypothesis”? 48.Do people prefer natural green views or city views? 49.What may happen if you hug a tree for more than 21 seconds? 50.Why should we be kind when hugging trees? 51.Will you try hugging trees next time you feel down? Why? 【答案】47.In 1984. 48.People prefer natural green views. 49.Hugging a tree for more than 21 seconds may make the body show a higher level of oxytocin, and people may feel happier. 50.Because the tree is home to many small living things that are too small to be seen. We shouldn’t hurt nature. 51.Yes, I will. Because the article says hugging trees can reduce stress by increasing oxytocin and cutting cortisol, which makes people feel better. 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,通过介绍“抱树减压”现象,讲解背后的科学原理,向读者科普自然与人类健康的关联知识。 47.根据“US scientist Edward Wilson first discovered it in 1984.”可知,“it”指代“biophilia hypothesis”。故填In 1984. 48.根据“This idea helps to explain why people prefer natural green views to city views.”可知,“prefer...to...”结构表明人们更倾向自然绿色景观。故填People prefer natural green views. 49.根据“A study found that...show a higher level of oxytocin.”可知,抱树21秒以上,催产素水平会更高,基于催产素与情绪的关联(越多越快乐),推导得出结果。故填Hugging a tree for more than 21 seconds may make the body show a higher level of oxytocin, and people may feel happier. 50.根据“The tree is home to many small living things that are too small to be seen. We shouldn’t hurt nature while doing it.”可知,树是微小生物的家园,不能伤害自然便是原因。故填Because the tree is home to many small living things that are too small to be seen. (B) The Taklimakan Desert (塔克拉玛干沙漠), which is in the northwest part of China, is the biggest desert in our country.
