66. Dear Mike,
Sorry to hear that you've been experiencing stomach pain recently and that Western medicine hasn't been effective. I highly recommend trying Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for your condition.
(教材选三P65);One of the main advantages of TCM is that it's tailored to each person. A TCM doctor will assess your symptoms and create a unique plan just for you. Additionally, instead of just treating the symptoms, TCM focuses on balancing the body's energies and addressing the root cause of illnesses, which could promote overall health and well-being.
I hope you consider giving TCM a try and find relief from your stomach pain. Please take care of yourself and I wish you a speedy recovery.

第二节(满分25分)
Leo decided to limit his screen time to only one hour each day. At first, it felt strange not reaching for his tablet whenever he had free time. To fill the hours, he rediscovered old hobbies — building intricate Lego castles, sketching superheroes, and even helping his mom bake cookies. One afternoon, he joined his dad in the garden, planting flowers and learning about different types of soil. To his surprise, he found himself laughing more and feeling less restless. Though he still enjoyed his hour of screen time, he began to see it as a treat rather than the main event of his day.
As the week came to an end, Leo had a lot to reflect on. Not only had he completed the challenge, but he also realized how much he’d missed by staring at screens. His family celebrated with a trip to the zoo, his chosen activity, where he marveled at real-life animals he’d only seen in games. That night, as his mom tucked him in, he whispered, “I think I like this ‘less screen time’ thing.” She smiled, reminding him that balance was key — technology could be fun, but so could the world beyond it. Leo fell asleep dreaming of his next adventure, this time offline.

Mike Pavlik sees a lot while recovering stolen bikes around Minneapolis. Once, pretending to be a potential buyer, he dressed up in a sport coat and met a seller. Pavlik took note of the bike’s make, model, and markings, confirming it was the one he was hunting. He asked to take it for a test ride. The seller wanted some collateral (抵押物).
“Do I look like the kind of guy that steals bikes, dude?” Pavlik recalls asking the man. Then he just pedaled off. An hour later, the seller texted him, “I guess you’re not coming back?”
Pavlik is part of an unusual army: amateur detectives who find stolen bikes and return them to their owners. As bike theft becomes more profitable, grassroots efforts to frustrate thieves are springing up nationwide. The volunteers say recovering bikes can be strangely fun and addictive.
Pavlik, who is 51, works part-time at Trader Joe’s when he is not serving as a detective for Twin Cities Stolen Bikes, which has a Facebook page with 11,000 members. Pavlik has a certain skill set from working as a bartender and a National Guard police officer. “I can read people and talk to them really well,” he says. “I’m also not afraid to get in someone’s face. Most of these guys are cowards (胆小鬼).”
Said a Minneapolis police spokesman: “While we commend all residents who step up to improve their communities, safety and lawfulness are the most important. We do not support aggressive strategies that put anyone in harm’s way.”
One guy who Pavlik says allegedly (据说) runs a bike theft ring also stands out. The first time he confronted the man with a bike’s proof of ownership, the man pedaled off. Pavlik gave chase on his bike and shot him with pepper spray until he crashed. “I got him,” he says. “Then I just lifted the stolen bike onto my shoulder and sped off.” Another victory.
24. Why did Pavlik ask to take the bike for a test ride?
A. To check the bike’s condition.
B. To impress the seller.
C. To take back the bike.
D. To show he is a serious buyer.
25. What is the main reason for the rise of amateur bike detectives?
A. Social media’s role in organization.
B. The rise in bike theft cases.
C. Volunteers’ enjoyment of bike recovery.
D. The police’s failure to stop bike theft.
26. What does the police spokesman imply?
A. Pavlik’s methods are against the law.
B. Residents’ actions are worth encouraging.
C. Improving community living safety is urgent.
D. Dangerous situations should be left to the police.
27. Which of the following best describes Pavlik?
A. Brave and skillful. B. Friendly and honest.
C. Confident and sociable. D. Kind and patient.

In today’s globalized world, plastic pollution has emerged as a major environmental concern. Every year, over 400 million tons of plastic are produced worldwide, much of which is designed for single use. The convenience of disposable packaging — for food, drinks, and consumer goods — has led to an enormous increase in waste. Although plastics are lightweight and flexible, these very properties make them difficult to collect and recycle efficiently.
The impact on the planet extends far beyond visual pollution. It is estimated that more than 8 million tons of plastic enter the oceans annually, affecting over 700 marine species. Seabirds, turtles, and fish often mistake plastic for food, which may lead to injury or death. Moreover, plastic debris breaks down into micro-plastics — tiny particles that can be absorbed by marine life and eventually enter the human food chain. Recent studies have detected micro-plastics in tap water, air, and even human bodies, although the long-term health effects remain uncertain.
In response, governments and organizations have launched many initiatives. Some nations have banned certain single-use plastics, such as straws or shopping bags. Others focus on boosting recycling rates or offering incentives (奖励) to companies that use biodegradable materials. However, these approaches face multiple hurdles. Recycling infrastructure is inadequate in many regions, and biodegradable plastics require specific conditions to decompose, which are not always available.
Experts stress the need for a combination of policy, technology, and individual action. Dr. Anna Carter, a marine biologist, points out that education and public awareness play a powerful role. “When people understand the consequences of daily choices,” she says, “they are more likely to reduce unnecessary packaging, select reusable products, and participate in local clean-ups.” Innovative companies are also investing in new materials — like plant-based plastics — which promise to be more eco-friendly in the long run.
Ultimately, solving plastic pollution requires collaboration between governments, industries, and citizens. While progress has been made, the challenge is ongoing. Dr. Carter insists, “Every effort, big or small, can spark change. It starts with everyone.”
28. Why is plastic pollution a major concern?
A. Plastic is cheap to produce.
B. Plastic products are convenient to use.
C. Plastic waste is increasing rapidly.
D. Plastic is single-use and hard to recycle.
29. How does the author show the impact of plastic pollution?
A. By presenting experimental results. B. By presenting data and examples.
C. By analyzing survey reports. D. By quoting findings from experts.
30. The underlined word “hurdles” in Paragraph 3 probably means ______.
A. difficulties B. requirements C. drawbacks D. changes
31. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To present expert views on solutions.
B. To highlight new materials for sustainability.
C. To raise awareness and call for action.
D. To report studies on plastic harm.
D
At times our emotions can seem like unreasonable responses, but our brains have carefully evolved these mechanisms with just one target: keeping us alive. While we interpret different emotions as positive or negative, the most ancient parts of the human brain developed them on the principle that we must survive. We evolved emotions as a means of communicative function and as a way to help us navigate social interactions and our environment safely: they are designed to protect us. Our fear responses were originally a survival strategy that warned us of potential dangers, such as our inborn unease around spiders and snakes. Then there is the feeling of disgust, which warns us of foods or other substances that may be dangerous.
Our other emotions are responses to social interactions that keep us part of a group. We are fundamentally a social species, and throughout our evolution have relied on our tribe to help us survive by working together to find food and shelter. Anger is a response to perceived social threats or a signal of dominance; pride can help us to boost our social status, while shame is intended to decrease our standing within a group. These emotions maintain the social balance of our tribe — who we follow, who we trust, who we care about.
The fundamental emotions that motivate us individually are almost always sadness and happiness. Sadness results from loss, and serves the biological purpose of motivating a person to recover that loss, whether it is a young child searching for their mother in a supermarket or someone trying hard to get a new job after being dismissed. But the ultimate human emotion is happiness, and we are all in search of it. When you’re sitting around a campfire, safe in the countryside with some close friends and good food, you feel happiness because you have found the resources that your primitive brain is seeking.
The next time you sit in an airport departure lounge, look for the emotions. Our bodies have created these experiences — the tears as we say goodbye, the smiles and laughter as we are reunited — for the purpose of keeping us alive. Our emotions and feelings are fundamentally what make us human, but this means we’re in for a bit of a roller coaster along the way.
32. What does the author say about emotions?
A. They appear illogical at times.
B. They developed to ensure our survival.
C. They are viewed as either good or bad.
D. They signal threats from certain substances.
33. According to the text, when does happiness occur?
A. When people’s emotional needs are met.
B. When we recover from a painful loss.
C. When people get along with their group.
D. When our ancient brain gets what it wants.
34. Why does the author mention “roller coaster” in the last paragraph?
A. To show that emotions are unpredictable.
B. To stress emotions are hard to control.
C. To explain the ups and downs of emotions. D. To describe the exciting nature of emotions.
35. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. The Purpose Behind Our Feelings B. How Emotions Shape Our Lives
C. The Social Nature of Emotions D. Emotions: Protection or More?

One of the most important things to do during an interview is to make sure you are building a connection with the interviewer. Why? 36 . Here are some steps to help you make a lasting connection during an interview.
Show interest in the interviewer
37 . This will make them feel just as important as the interview is. Small actions, such as remembering the interviewer’s name can help show the interviewer you are interested in more than the position.
38
Throughout the interview, your interviewer will likely to discuss important things about the position and the company. It is important to show your interviewer you are interested in what they have to say and are actively listening. You can do this by paraphrasing things they say, repeating them back to the interviewer.
Ask the interviewer questions
Although most interviews include questions that the interviewer asks you, it is also important to make sure you ask any questions you have about the role or the company. At the beginning of the interview, you can ask questions about the interviewer like “How long have you worked here?” Then continue to ask proper questions throughout the interview. 39
Follow up after the interview
Once you have successfully made a strong connection with the interviewer, maintain it after the interview is over. 40 . You can use this follow-up to emphasize why you are looking forward to working with them. This reinforces the connection and leaves a lasting impression that can lead to a job offer.

B. Be aware of your body language
C. So it is vital to prepare for the interview in advance

Leo was like any other kid of his age — full of curiosity and energy. He loved playing soccer with his friends, riding his bike, and reading adventure books. On top of all these, Leo loved screens. Whether it was playing video games, watching cartoons, or scrolling through social media, Leo spent countless hours glued to the screen.
One Saturday morning, Leo was deeply immersed in a game that involved racing cars and defeating opponents, the glow of his tablet lighting his face. Suddenly, his mom entered the room. “Leo, how long have you been playing?” she asked with concern.
“Just a little while, Mom. I’m almost at the next level!” Leo replied, his eyes not leaving the screen.
His mom sighed. “I know it’s fun, but don’t you think it’s time to take a break?”
“But Mom, I’m having a great time here!” Leo protested, pausing his game for just a moment.
“Leo, I’ve noticed that you spend a lot of time on your tablet. Maybe we should try something different for a while. How about a challenge?” she suggested, her eyes sparkling with an idea.
“A challenge? What kind of challenge?” Leo asked, intrigued.
“Let’s see if you can go a whole week with less screen time,” she proposed. “We can set goals, and if you complete them, you can choose the family activity for the weekend.”
Leo thought about it. He loved family activities, but the thought of spending less time on screens made him nervous. “What if I fail?” he asked.
His mom smiled reassuringly. “It’s not about winning or losing, Leo. It’s about discovering new things and spending time together. Plus, it’ll be fun!”
After a moment of hesitation, Leo nodded. “Okay, I’m in! But I’ll still want to play a little bit!”
“Deal,” his mom laughed, stroking his hair. “Let’s write down your goals. We can also brainstorm some fun activities, so that you can balance your time.”
注意:
(1)写作词数应为 150 个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Leo decided to limit his screen time to only one hour each day.
As the week came to an end, Leo had a lot to reflect on.
