“I’ve always loved practising Nirmal painting, but I wondered: Will anyone value it enough to keep it alive?” says Mohammed Abdul Hakeem, an artisan (工匠) from Telangana. With traditional art forms slowly losing their place in the modern world, the artisan felt uncertain about the future. But his life changed when he met Sushmita Kaneri, who used to be a software engineer.
In 2021, Sushmita visited Telangana and met artisans practising Nirmal art, a wood-based craft (工艺) known for its storytelling through painting. “I saw how these artisans had been practising the craft for generations, but fewer and fewer people were noticing it,” Sushmita explains. “The artisans felt that their hard work was neither recognised nor fairly valued. That’s when I knew I had to do something,” she adds.
In April 2023, Sushmita founded “Gullakaari”, a platform (平台) designed to connect artisans with customers, co-create art, and raise awareness about endangered art forms while helping artisans support their lives. By offering a marketplace for traditional art forms like Warli, Patachitra, and Gond, the platform allows artisans to reach a broader audience and benefit from a steady stream of orders.
When asked about how she has used her software engineering skills in her work, Sushmita says, “We use tech only where it adds value without changing the soul of the craft. For example, we trained the Tholu Bommalata artisans to create lamp covers with 3D-printed logos on them. When it is lit, the lamp beautifully lights up not only the fine artwork but also a 3D-printed logo, mixing traditions with modern technology”.
In just two years, Sushmita has helped more than 100 artisans make a living by using their traditional art styles to make functional products. Hakeem shares, “Working with Gullakaari has truly opened new doors for us. In the past, we had to rely on middlemen who often paid us less. Thanks to Gullakaari, now our work can reach companies and art lovers from across the country.”
41. How does the author start the text?
A. By introducing a story. B. By giving a definition.
C. By making a comparison. D. By expressing an opinion.

A. By expanding the market for crafts. B. By broadening their social circle.
C. By teaching new art techniques. D. By helping them find side work.
44. What can be learned from the lamp example?
A. Technology may destroy the value of art.
B. Traditional art is effective in making life easier.
C. Tradition and technology can coexist creatively.
D. Artisans are sensitive to technological advancements.

For years, divers have reported unusual attacks from sea snakes. This behavior confused scientists because land snakes prefer to avoid humans rather than attack them. Why would their sea cousins be any different? Now, a recent study says that sea snakes may not be trying to attack humans at all.
“Attacks on divers by sea snakes are mostly due to males searching for females, and getting confused,” the study author Professor Rick Shine said. “Sea snakes swim directly towards divers, sometimes wrapping coils (卷) around the diver’s arms or legs and biting. Sea snakes can grow to be more than six feet long. This makes them particularly frightening for the divers who encounter them. The sea snakes do not bite very often; however, approaches are very common — and dangerous because a diver might panic.”
To understand why sea snakes keep approaching divers, the researchers turned to data collected nearly 30 years ago. As a university student, the study author Tim Lynch made a total of 188 dives in the Great Barrier Reef between 1994 and 1995. During these dives, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, he would record the number of sea snakes that approached him and the details of these experiences.
Most of the approaches took place during the snakes’ mating season, and males were more likely to approach during this time. This led the study authors to conclude that the attacks were a case of what they call “mistaken identity”. That is a male sea snake mistaking the diver for a female sea snake.
The explanation provided by Lynch and Shine answers the question of what divers should do if they find a sea snake rapidly swimming their way. “Stay calm, and let the snake check you out.” Shine advises. “It will soon realize that you’re not a female snake, and go on its way.”
46. What can we know about sea snakes from the passage?
A. They often attack divers approaching them.
B. They are actually not as dangerous as they appear.
C. They prefer to avoid divers rather than attack them.
D. They will keep biting him or her when meeting a diver.
47. What does the underlined word “encounter” probably mean?
A. Hunt for. B. Burn down. C. Come across. D. Figure out.
48. What does Shine advise a diver to do when a sea snake approaches?
A. To stay calm till the sea snake leaves.
B. To turn to other nearby divers for help.
C. To fight against the sea snake before it attacks.
D. To swim away from the sea snake as quickly as possible.
49. Why do sea snakes keep approaching divers according to the research?
A. Because they see divers as a threat.
B. Because they want to kill divers for food.
C. Because they are searching for new habitats.
D. Because they mistake divers for potential mates.
50. In which section of a website may this text appear?
A. Health and diet. B. Lifestyle and travel.
C. History and culture. D. Nature and science.

The human nose is a wonder of nature’s design. With an ability to identify nearly 1 trillion different smells, the sense of smell plays an important role in our lives, from identifying danger like smoke from a fire to strengthening our experiences with food and drink. But can we, as humans, use our noses to find our way home?
Actually, many creatures in the animal kingdom can use their sense of smell well: salmon use their sense of smell to return to their birthplace to lay eggs, homing pigeons use a smell map to find their way home over vast distances, and even dogs, with their sense of smell, locate the position of their home in a mixture of smells. In light of such abilities in the animal kingdom, researchers are motivated to look deeper into the olfactory (嗅觉的) abilities of humans.
In a recent study, participants were asked to follow a smell in a field without using any other senses. Remarkably, they were able to do so with surprising accuracy, which led to reconsideration of the long-standing belief that humans are deficient in olfactory strength compared to other animals.
The idea of humans being capable of smell-based navigation (导航) centers on the concept of an “olfactory spatial (空间的) map”. This map is an interaction between the brain’s olfactory bulb that processes smell, and the hippocampus, a region responsible for spatial memory. Our noses can identify chemical smell mixtures, and as we move through different environments, the types and concentrations of the smell mixtures change, providing a unique olfactory feature for each location. It’s assumed that our brain remembers these features as an olfactory map, thereby giving us a sense of direction based on smells.
More importantly, the olfactory navigation could offer new ways to design navigation aids for individuals with poor eyesight. Additionally, since loss of smell is an early sign of Alzheimer’s disease, understanding its link to spatial memory might pave the way for early treatments.
51. What encouraged researchers to investigate humans’ sense of smell?
A. The special structure of the nose. B. Humans’ high standards for diet.
C. Animals’ great ability to navigate. D. The role of smell in sensing danger.
52. Which of the following can replace the underlined part “deficient in” in paragraph 3?
A. Adaptable to. B. Dependent on. C. Involved in. D. Lacking in.
53. How does the “olfactory spatial map” function?
A. By showing shortcuts to spatial positions.
B. By linking smell features with spatial memory.
C. By visualizing olfactory information in the brain.
D. By controlling the concentration of smell mixtures.
54. What is the significance of the research according to the author?
A. Inspiring medical advancement. B. Proving cross-sensory interaction.
C. Helping avoid age-related vision loss. D. Popularizing the use of navigation tools.
55. What is the text mainly about?
A. New navigation aids for the blind.
B. Super olfactory abilities of animals.
C. The promise of human smell-based navigation.
D. The connection between smell loss and memory.

I may never understand the phrase, “You’re too old for that.” Or “That’s for little kids.” Youth, something so great, is to be welcomed, and the fun you create should last forever, rather than coming to a halt due to others’ opinions.
That idea crossed my mind while I was happily skipping (蹦跳着走), as if I were six years old instead of fourteen, to the other side of the road, where many pumpkins were exhibited. In the sea of pumpkins were many little children. Some were happily appreciating and picking up their favorite pumpkins; some were excitedly cutting pumpkins into the shapes they liked. This scene immediately attracted my eyes.
Beside the sea of pumpkins was the Pumpkin Balloon House. When stepping in, you would be surrounded by amazing, unique balloons. Almost every year I would play with the balloons, but this time something was holding me back. When I was watching the house, some voice inside my heart was telling me, “Now that you’re older, you shouldn’t do that.” I fought with that voice and begged my mother, “Can I go into the Pumpkin Balloon House?”
“Why?” she questioned. Feeling upset, I glanced around to find a way to convince her that I needed my youth back. When finding my admiration for a little girl who was having fun in the Balloon House, my mother understood my desire and said, “OK.” I was so excited. As soon as I entered the house, I enjoyed myself to the fullest.
That day when I stayed in the Balloon House was a truly important and meaningful day in my life journey. It was because on that day I understood youth was about being completely free, not caring about other people’s opinions of you, and never growing too old for fun.

42. What motivated Sushmita to establish Gullakaari?
A. The need to modernize traditional crafts. B. The struggles of traditional artisans.
C. Her interest in wood-based crafts. D. Her desire to develop her career.
43. How can Gullakaari benefit artisans?

根据第二段“The sea snakes do not bite very often; however, approaches are very common — and dangerous because a diver might panic.(海蛇并不经常咬人;然而,靠近的情况很常见——这很危险,因为潜水员可能会惊慌。)”
根据第二段“This makes them particularly frightening for the divers who encounter them.(这使得它们对那些encounter它们的潜水员来说特别可怕)”结合前文提到海蛇会靠近潜水员,可知这里是说遇到海蛇的潜水员会觉得可怕,“come across”有“遇见,碰到”之意,与“encounter”意思相符。
根据最后一段““Stay calm, and let the snake check you out.” Shine advises. “It will soon realize that you’re not a female snake, and go on its way.”(“保持冷静,让蛇来查看你。” 夏因建议道。“它很快就会意识到你不是一条雌蛇,然后就会离开”)”可知,当海蛇靠近时,夏因建议潜水员保持冷静,直到海蛇离开。
【49题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“That is a male sea snake mistaking the diver for a female sea snake.(也就是说,雄性海蛇把潜水员错当成了雌性海蛇)”可知,研究表明海蛇不断靠近潜水员是因为它们把潜水员错当成了潜在的配偶。

C 52. D 53. B 54. A 55. C

根据划线短语句中“Remarkably, they were able to do so with surprising accuracy, which led to reconsideration of the long-standing belief that humans are deficient in olfactory strength compared to other animals.( 令人惊讶的是,他们能够做到这一点,而且准确性令人惊讶,这促使人们重新审视长期以来认为人类在嗅觉能力方面比其他动物……这一观点。)”结合上下文逻辑,传统观点认为人类嗅觉不如动物,即“缺乏”嗅觉优势。deficient in 意为“缺乏、不足”,与D选项Lacking in“缺乏”同义。
根据第四段中“This map is an interaction between the brain’s olfactory bulb that processes smell, and the hippocampus, a region responsible for spatial memory. Our noses can identify chemical smell mixtures, and as we move through different environments, the types and concentrations of the smell mixtures change, providing a unique olfactory feature for each location. It’s assumed that our brain remembers these features as an olfactory map, thereby giving us a sense of direction based on smells.( 这个图谱是大脑中负责处理气味的嗅球与负责空间记忆的海马体之间的相互作用。我们的鼻子能够辨别化学气味混合物,当我们在不同的环境中移动时,气味混合物的种类和浓度会发生变化,从而为每个地点提供独特的嗅觉特征。人们认为我们的大脑会将这些特征记忆为一种嗅觉图谱,从而让我们根据气味来确定方向。)”可知,嗅觉空间图的运作原理是将不同地点的嗅觉特征与大脑的空间记忆建立联系。
【54题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“More importantly, the olfactory navigation could offer new ways to design navigation aids for individuals with poor eyesight. Additionally, since loss of smell is an early sign of Alzheimer’s disease, understanding its link to spatial memory might pave the way for early treatments.( 更重要的是,嗅觉导航可以为视力不佳的人设计新的导航辅助工具提供新的思路。

Dear fellow students,
Currently, environmental pollution is becoming increasingly severe, environmental pollution is worsening, with smog, waste and carbon emissions threatening our health and ecosystem. It’s high time that we took action to live a low-carbon life.
To achieve this, we can start with small acts. First, choose walking, cycling or public transport instead of driving. Second, save water and electricity by turning off taps and lights when unused. Third, reuse paper and sort rubbish to reduce waste. Also, plant trees to absorb carbon dioxide.
Small efforts count. Let’s join hands to adopt a low-carbon lifestyle. Only by working together can we build a greener, cleaner world for ourselves and future generations.
