Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my utter dissatisfaction with a smartwatch I recently purchased from your online store.
To begin with, although I ordered it well in advance as a Mother's Day gift, the delivery was unacceptably
delayed.By the time it arrived, the special occasion had already passed, causing great disappointment.Furthermore,
the product fails to live up to its advertisement, lacking several key functions promised online.
Given these issues,I request a full refund.I hope you can improve your delivery efficiency and product
consistency.Your prompt response would be highly appreciated.
Yours

I'm writing to convey my dissatisfaction with a smartwatch I recently purchased from your online store.
I ordered it as a Mother's Day gift in advance;however, the product arrived long after Mother's day had passed,
causing great inconvenience as I couldn't present the gift to my mother on that very day.So I'm extremely
disappointed with the slow delivery.Furthermore, the product I received is different from what was advertised. It
lacks the promised features and functions, which makes it a poor choice as a gift. Therefore,I would like a full

After checking the route to the farm,we set off with a bag of treats.Kevin trotted along happily, his ears
flopping with each step.Ella giggled every time he snatched a cookie with his snout, his eyes gleaming with delight
Lindsey and I took turns holding the leash, while the kid skipped alongside, petting Kevin from time to time.
The pig seemed to enjoy the attention, occasionally stopping to sniff flowers or roll in the grass but a quick wave of
an Oreo always got him back on track.People on the street stared at us in amazement. The walk felt like a family
outing, filled with laughter and curiosity, and Kevin became a temporary member of our family.
Suddenly,we realized there was only one Oreo left and it was impossible to find more food.Just then I saw
Ella holding the last cookie high, teasing Kevin with it."Come on,Kevin, just a little further!"she urged. The pig
cocked his head, snorting playfully and took a few hesitant steps forward. But when he realized the cookie was
always out of reach,he refused to move.Ella crouched down beside him, gently petting his snout."You can do it,
Kevin,"she encouraged. She leaned in and planted a soft kiss on his forehead.Slowly,he took a step forward, then
another, his snout twitching as if to say,"Alright,I'll trust you."When we finally reached the farm gate,Ella offered
him the last Oreo.Kevin responded with a contented grunt,as if to say,"See you next time!"
version 2
After checking the route to the farm,we set off with a bag of treats. At first,Kevin walked eagerly, clearly
motivated by the familiar smell of Oreos.Ella skipped beside him, laughing each time he grabbed a cookie with his
snout, while Lindsey and I followed closely, taking turns holding the leash.Kevin seemed delighted by all the
attention, stopping occasionally to sniff the grass or roll happily on the ground. Each pause drew curious looks
from passersby, but a quick shake of the treat bag always sent him moving again. The relaxed pace and shared
laughter made the journey feel less like an chore and more like a pleasant family outing. For a while, the
destination hardly mattered,as Kevin walked proudly beside us like a welcomed companion
Suddenly,we realized there was only one Oreo left and it was impossible to find more food.Ella froze for a
second before lifting the final cookie into the air.Kevin followed it eagerly, took a few steps, and then stopped
when he realized it wouldn't be given to him.He planted his hooves firmly on the ground, refusing to move.Ella
knelt down beside him, speaking softly as she rubbed his snout. Her calm voice seemed to work better than the treat.
Slowly,Kevin began to walk again, one careful step at a time. When the farm gate finally appeared,Ella smiled
with relief and gave him the last Oreo.Kevin responded with a happy grunt and waddled inside.

M:As people get older, they stop working so they don't generate money.Instead, they need pensions. As they
age, they also need medical care, which needs to be paid for.
W:Why is that a problem?
M:Because those things are paid for with taxes. But if there aren't enough young people working, where
will the taxes come from?
W:So what is the answer?
M:People are being encouraged to have more children.(15)You see, your mother and I only have you,so we
haven't replaced ourselves in society
W:Ah,couples need two children just to replace themselves.

down into minus 20 degrees by Sunday. You know what that means.Yes,we're going to have a lot of snow!
Pennsylvania and New York will be able to avoid the bad weather until late Monday, but it doesn't look like this
weather is going away any time soon.(19)Now take a look at this colored map.You see all that purple? That's
where temperatures are at their most extreme,19 degrees being the lowest. We also see a lot of red here for the

About two months ago, I removed Uber Eats from my phone. Not because I didn't like using it. I loved it. Like most cheap, modern luxuries though, there are hidden costs.
"Restaurants are barely surviving. Delivery apps will kill them" was a headline in a newspaper, one of many stories exploring the unfair sign-up strategies and high fees taken by these tech companies. Moreover, there were reports about bad working conditions for delivery riders, leading to tragic accidents, even deaths. That's truly unbearable!
I deleted the app and haven't used it, or any of its competitors, since. Instead of ordering online, now I either cook something or get takeaway nearby. Cooking better food has been a great motivation for me. On lazy nights, I've discovered that I can still make a satisfying meal by using whatever ingredients I have on hand. This approach has also saved me much money. As with lots of online shopping, I'd been ordering food without much thought about the cost. Cooking is almost always cheaper and so is old-school takeaway.
These changes have cost me one thing — time. One reason the apps are so popular is that they meet the needs of the convenience-seeking, time-starved individuals. But rather than adding to my stress, having to plan meals again somehow made life less so. Some days it's been a good motivation to stop work earlier, and engage in activities like going to the shops, or start chopping onions. Walking to pick up takeaway forces you to go for a walk. The change in habit forced me to be on my devices a bit less and to be in my actual life and neighbourhood a bit more.
The process has made me think about how technological advances do save us time, but time for what? For me, the answer was often just more time working, or more time online. Making my own food feels like taking back time I had given up for things far less nourishing (有营养的).
24.Which might be the reason for the author to remove Uber Eats?
A.Her passion for cooking. B.Her boredom with online ordering.
C.Her preference for another app. D.Her concern for its negative impacts.
25.What does the author think of cooking?
A.Addictive and money-saving. B.Cheap and convenient.
C.Time-consuming but rewarding. D.Motivating but stressful.
26.What does "the process" refer to in the last paragraph?
A.Reflecting on the influence of hi-tech. B.Adapting to life free of delivery apps.
C.Getting into a healthy eating habit. D.Rediscovering the fun of cooking.
27.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.My Order Never Arrived B.Why Uber Eats Gets Less Active
C.What Delivery Apps Can Not Offer Me D.The Convenience Was Not Worth the Cost

Exercise is beneficial to our health in many ways, but it's not that effective when it comes to losing weight. Now we have the best evidence explaining why this is. People who start to exercise more burn extra calories. However, the actual weight they lose is far less than the amount expected considering the extra calories burned.
An analysis of 14 trials has found that our bodies burn less energy for other functions to make up for the calories used during exercise. This effect becomes even stronger when people both eat less and exercise more — and in some cases, it can completely neutralize the extra energy spent exercising. That means dieting alone leads to weight loss, but adding exercise may not help lose any more weight.
Herma Pontzer at Duke University says pairing exercise with diet makes the body compensate (补偿) more: "It's still good for you, just not for weight loss." When he studied Hadza hunter-gatherers in Tanzania, he was amazed they used no more total energy than desk workers. This discovery led Pontzer to propose, in 2015, that our bodies have developed to limit how much energy we burn, and compensate for greater physical activity by saving energy in other ways.
Exercise type matters too. Compensation only occurs with aerobic exercises like running. With weightlifting, energy use went up more than expected — for example, those consuming 200 extra kilocalories lifting weights saw a 250-kilocalorie rise in total consumption. Pontzer says measuring weightlifting energy use is hard, so findings need to be treated with caution (谨慎), but he guesses extra energy goes to muscle repair and building.
While Pontzer sees the findings as very clear evidence of compensation, others are still not convinced. Dylan Thompson notes study limitations, such as extra exercise replacing daily activities like gardening. He and Javier Gonzalez, another professor, at the University of Bath agree more studies are needed. "We really need carefully designed randomized controlled trials in humans," Thompson said.
28.What does the underlined word "neutralize" mean in paragraph 2?
A.Cancel out. B.Cut down. C.Add up. D.Use up.
29.What surprised Pontzer when he studied hunter-gatherers?
A.They led a less active life than expected.
B.They could save energy in a unique way.
C.They dieted in a way benefiting weight loss.
D.They consumed as much energy as office workers.
30.What does the example of weightlifting show?
A.Total energy use is hard to calculate.
B.Muscle repair needs no extra calories.
C.Aerobic exercise benefits muscle building.
D.Energy compensation varies with exercise types.
31.What is the Dylan Thompson's attitude towards the energy compensation theory?
A.Dismissive. B.Favourable. C.Doubtful. D.Objective

Climate-driving migration is often viewed as a modern crisis, but history tells a different story. An interdisciplinary team of researchers from the University of Basel has shown that large-scale environmental instability shaped societies more than a thousand years ago.
Their study examined how severe hydrological (水文学的) extremes such as prolonged droughts and destructive floods in the late Tang Dynasty influenced political stability in China. The research focused on northern China, particularly the region surrounding the Yellow River, an area central to agriculture, transportation, and political power.
To understand how the climate shifted during this critical period, scientists turned to natural archives (档案) — tree rings. In wetter years, sufficient rainfall allows trees to grow more quickly, producing wider rings. In dry years, growth slows, leaving narrower rings. The longer a tree lives, the further back this environmental record extends, offering a detailed timeline of past climate conditions. The team relied on long-term tree ring datasets from the Yellow River basin to reconstruct historical runoff (径流量) patterns, which directly affected farming.
Their findings revealed that a rise in severe weather events played a part in the fall of the Tang Dynasty in 907 CE. More frequent droughts and floods placed intense pressure on the soldiers responsible for defending the frontiers, as well as on their families. Crop failures became common due to extreme weather. With shortages mounting, supply routes collapsing, and hunger spreading, many people migrated south in search of better conditions, leading to political instability and contributing to the Tang Dynasty's fall.
However, the study's first author Michael Kempf emphasizes, "Our results are approximations (近似值). The actual conditions at that time cannot be reconstructed with certainty. It's a complex interplay of many different factors." The study concluded that environmental phenomena and their consequences can disrupt social structures and weaken political systems. This is a development that could occur more frequently in view of climate change today.
32.What is the main purpose of the study?
A.To question tree rings for climate research. B.To predict the potential new climate crises.
C.To link climate change to political changes. D.To analyse the reason for ancient migration.
33.How did the researchers get climate data of the Tang Dynasty?
A.By studying ancient trees' growth patterns. B.By surveying the ancient migration routes.
C.By analyzing official historical documents. D.By examining the remains of ancient crops.
34.What did the research find about the role of climate in the late Tang Dynasty?
A.It was the major reason for the dynasty's collapse.
B.It physically destroyed most of its frontier defence.
C.It directly resulted in the weakening of the dynasty.
D.It set off a chain of events causing the dynasty's fall.
35.What does Michael Kempf think of the findings?
A.They overstate environmental roles. B.They are estimates and require care.
C.They ignore Tang's social structures. D.They are accurate and widely applicable.

Constant engagement can leave you feeling exhausted and in need of recharging your social battery. 36 In fact, this experience has roots in psychology and most people face such kind of trouble. Let's dive into a few ways to refuel and regain your balance.
Alone time now and then allows your brain to process recent social experiences without the constant demand for interaction. 37 This could mean sitting quietly, sipping tea, or simply letting your mind wander. These moments of solitude (独处) act like plugging your phone into a charger — they refuel you for what's ahead.
Journaling helps you process emotions and gain clarity on what's draining your social battery. Putting your feelings into words can reduce stress and improve mental health. Start with a single question like "What's been weighing on me lately?" Let the words flow naturally. 38
Endless scrolling (滚动) on social media or watching videos might seem like easy fixes, but they often drain you more. 39 Instead of mindlessly scrolling, set intentional screen-free hours each day. Use this time to engage with the physical world, whether that's preparing a meal, organizing your space, or simply enjoying the quiet.
40 Staying in natural environment with fresh air improves mood. This connection between movement and mental health is supported by studies in environmental psychology, which highlight how green spaces positively impact our well-being. Even a 15-minute walk through a park or in the wild can shift your mood and mindset.
A.If you' re wondering how to do that, you' re not alone.
B.A good rest is an effective way to recharge your social battery.
C.Spare 30 minutes for yourself every day, free from distractions.
D.Think about what you've wanted to try but never made time for.
E.Reconnecting with nature can work wonders for your social battery.
F.This act of self-reflection helps you identify what you need to recharge.
G.Social comparison, fueled by social media, can make you feel more anxious.

On a mid-autumn night, Australian scholar Jordan Martin wandered through the moonlit courtyards of Yuelu Academy in Hunan province. In the quiet of the ancient halls, he experienced the profound 66 (weigh) of a thousand years of learning. This sense of continuity explains why Martin 67 (stay) in China for over a decade. He obtained both his master's degree and doctorate in philosophy at the academy, 68 he has been teaching since 2022. Today, he is devoted to teaching and researching pre-Qin philosophy.
Initially, his motivation was practical. "I wanted to master Chinese and needed immersion," he recalls. A chance introduction brought him to Yuelu Academy, and there he realized it was far more than an 69 (academy) institution. "When I first stepped into the academy over a decade ago, I 70 (attract) by its history and holy atmosphere. I thought, 'This is 71 place I've dreamed of,'" he says.
For Martin, becoming a teacher here brings both pride and responsibility. Whenever he attends international conferences, Martin always takes the opportunity 72 (introduce) Yuelu Academy. Since he was not raised in China, he's conscious of his limitations in knowledge. "To deserve the title 'teacher at Yuelu Academy', I need to work twice 73 hard," he admits. In class, he teaches in Chinese. The challenge lies less in vocabulary than in precision. "Everything must be carefully prepared and clearly reasoned. That pushes me to be more thorough," he explains.
The academy's spirit, 74 (pass) down through its long history, is vividly captured in a classic line: "Just as heaven keeps moving forward tirelessly, a man of virtue should 75 (constant) pursue self-strengthening." It is also Jordan's principle for study, teaching, and life.

I was lying on the sofa, enjoying a cozy TV session with the kids, when my wife Lindsey burst into the room. "Jake, there's a pig on our driveway!" she exclaimed. Our driveway was on the opposite side of the house, so we'd installed a security camera for just such occasions. Sure enough, it revealed a massive, four-legged creature wandering around. Moments later, we caught sight of it gently touching the window with his snout(鼻子) and grunting(咕噜) softly.
"He's adorable!" my 10-year-old daughter, Ella, exclaimed, "I'm going to say hello!" I cautioned her that we didn't know if the pig was friendly, but before I could stop her, she was already out the door. To our relief, the massive pig seemed perfectly content to be petted and fawned over (讨好). Ella begged to keep him, but I gently explained that we didn't have enough space.
Disappointed as Ella was, Lindsey and I decided to send the pig back. I called a local farmer to see if the pig belonged to him. When I described the animal's size and distinctive markings, he laughed, confirming that it was definitely Kevin Bacon, who was probably just out looking for some company. The Hollywood actor's name gave us all a good laugh. The farmer also told us Kevin enjoyed playing with kids.
We learned that the farmer was away on business and wouldn't be able to return until the next day, He asked if we could walk Kevin home. "I'm not sure we'll be able to get him to move," I replied, "You could try attracting him with food," the farmer suggested. He then mentioned that Kevin had a soft spot for Oreos (奥利奥饼干). Fortunately, we had some Oreos in the biscuit tin. I hoped it would be enough. Then Lindsey managed to fit Kevin with a dog leash(狗绳).

2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

About two months ago,I removed Uber Eats from my phone. Not because I didn't like using it.I
loved it.Like most cheap, modern luxuries though, there are hidden costs.
"Restaurants are barely surviving.Delivery apps will kill them"was a headline in a newspaper, one of
many stories exploring the unfair sign-up strategies and high fees taken by these tech companies. Moreover,
there were reports about bad working conditions for delivery riders, leading to tragic accidents, even deaths.
That's truly unbearable!
I deleted the app and haven't used it,or any of its competitors, since.Instead of ordering online, now I
either cook something or get takeaway nearby.Cooking better food has been a great motivation for me.On
lazy nights,I've discovered that I can still make a satisfying meal by using whatever ingredients I have on
hand. This approach has also saved me much money. As with lots of online shopping,I'd been ordering
food without much thought about the cost.Cooking is almost always cheaper and so is old-school
takeaway.
These changes have cost me one thing-time.One reason the apps are so popular is that they meet
the needs of the convenience-seeking,time-starved individuals. But rather than adding to my stress, having
to plan meals again somehow made life less so.Some days it's been a good motivation to stop work earlier,
and engage in activities like going to the shops,or start chopping onions.Walking to pick up takeaway
forces you to go for a walk. The change in habit forced me to be on my devices a bit less and to be in my
actual life and neighbourhood a bit more.
The process has made me think about how technological advances do save us time, but time for what?
For me,the answer was often just more time working,or more time online.Making my own food feels like
taking back time I had given up for things far less nourishing(有营养的).
24.Which might be the reason for the author to remove Uber Eats?
A.Her passion for cooking.
B.Her boredom with online ordering.
C.Her preference for another app.
D.Her concern for its negative impacts.
25.What does the author think of cooking?
A.Addictive and money-saving.
B.Cheap and convenient.
C.Time-consuming but rewarding.
D.Motivating but stressful.
26.What does "the process"refer to in the last paragraph?
A.Reflecting on the influence of hi-tech.
B.Adapting to life free of delivery apps.
C.Getting into a healthy eating habit.
D.Rediscovering the fun of cooking.
27.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.My Order Never Arrived
B.Why Uber Eats Gets Less Active
C.What Delivery Apps Can Not Offer Me
D.The Convenience Was Not Worth the Cost

Exercise is beneficial to our health in many ways, but it's not that effective when it comes to losing
weight. Now we have the best evidence explaining why this is.People who start to exercise more burn
extra calories. However, the actual weight they lose is far less than the amount expected considering the
extra calories burned.
An analysis of 14 trials has found that our bodies burn less energy for other functions to make up for
the calories used during exercise. This effect becomes even stronger when people both eat less and exercise
more-and in some cases,it can completely neutralize the extra energy spent exercising. That means
dieting alone leads to weight loss, but adding exercise may not help lose any more weight.
Herma Pontzer at Duke University says pairing exercise with diet makes the body compensate (
more:"It's still good for you, just not for weight loss."When he studied Hadza hunter-gatherers in Tanzania,
he was amazed they used no more total energy than desk workers. This discovery led Pontzer to propose,in
2015,that our bodies have developed to limit how much energy we burn, and compensate for greater
physical activity by saving energy in other ways.
Exercise type matters too.Compensation only occurs with aerobic exercises like running. With
weightlifting, energy use went up more than expected -for example, those consuming 200 extra
kilocalories lifting weights saw a 250-kilocalorie rise in total consumption.Pontzer says measuring
weightlifting energy use is hard,so findings need to be treated with caution ()but he guesses extra
energy goes to muscle repair and building.
While Pontzer sees the findings as very clear evidence of compensation, others are still not convinced.
Dylan Thompson notes study limitations, such as extra exercise replacing daily activities like gardening.
He and Javier Gonzalez, another professor,at the University of Bath agree more studies are needed."We
really need carefully designed randomized controlled trials in humans,"Thompson said.
28.What does the underlined word"neutralize"mean in paragraph 2?
A.Cancel out.B.Cut down.
C.Add up.

Climate-driving migration is often viewed as a modern crisis, but history tells a different story. An
interdisciplinary team of researchers from the University of Basel has shown that large-scale environmental
instability shaped societies more than a thousand years ago.
Their study examined how severe hydrological(水文学的)extremes such as prolonged droughts and
destructive floods in the late Tang Dynasty influenced political stability in China. The research focused on
northern China, particularly the region surrounding the Yellow River,an area central to agriculture,
transportation,and political power.
To understand how the climate shifted during this critical period, scientists turned to natural archives
()-tree rings. In wetter years, sufficient rainfall allows trees to grow more quickly, producing wider
rings.In dry years,growth slows,leaving narrower rings.The longer a tree lives,the further back this
environmental record extends, offering a detailed timeline of past climate conditions. The team relied on
long-term tree ring datasets from the Yellow River basin to reconstruct historical runoff (patterns,
which directly affected farming.
Their findings revealed that a rise in severe weather events played a part in the fall of the Tang
Dynasty in 907 CE.More frequent droughts and floods placed intense pressure on the soldiers responsible
for defending the frontiers,as well as on their families.Crop failures became common due to extreme
weather.With shortages mounting,supply routes collapsing,and hunger spreading,many people migrated
south in search of better conditions, leading to political instability and contributing to the Tang Dynasty's
fall.
However, the study's first author Michael Kempf emphasizes,"Our results are approximations
)The actual conditions at that time cannot be reconstructed with certainty. It's a complex interplay of
many different factors."The study concluded that environmental phenomena and their consequences can
disrupt social structures and weaken political systems. This is a development that could occur more
frequently in view of climate change today.
32.What is the main purpose of the study?
A.To question tree rings for climate research.
B.To predict the potential new climate crises.
C.To link climate change to political changes.
D.To analyse the reason for ancient migration.
33.How did the researchers get climate data of the Tang Dynasty?
A.By studying ancient trees'growth patterns.

On a mid-autumn night,Australian scholar Jordan Martin wandered through the moonlit courtyards of
Yuelu Academy in Hunan province. In the quiet of the ancient halls,he experienced the profound 66
(weigh)of a thousand years of learning. This sense of continuity explains why Martin 67(stay)
in China for over a decade. He obtained both his master's degree and doctorate in philosophy at the
academy,68 he has been teaching since 2022.Today,he is devoted to teaching and researching
pre-Qin philosophy.
Initially, his motivation was practical."I wanted to master Chinese and needed immersion,"he recalls.
A chance introduction brought him to Yuelu Academy, and there he realized it was far more than an
69
(academy)institution."When I first stepped into the academy over a decade ago,I 70
(attract)by its history and holy atmosphere.I thought,This is 71 place I've dreamed of,"he
says.
For Martin, becoming a teacher here brings both pride and responsibility.Whenever he attends
intemational conferences,Martin always takes the opportunity 72(introduce)Yuelu Academy.
Since he was not raised in China,he's conscious of his limitations in knowledge."To deserve the title
'teacher at Yuelu Academy',I need to work twice73 hard,"he admits. In class,he teaches in
Chinese. The challenge lies less in vocabulary than in precision."Everything must be carefully prepared
and clearly reasoned. That pushes me to be more thorough,"he explains.
The academy's spirit.74(pass)down through its long history,is vividly captured in a
classic line:"Just as heaven keeps moving forward tirelessly,a man of virtue should
75
(constant)pursue self-strengthening.It is also Jordan's principle for study,teaching,and life

I was lying on the sofa, enjoying a cozy TV session with the kids, when my wife Lindsey burst into
the room."Jake, there's a pig on our driveway!"she exclaimed. Our driveway was on the opposite side of
the house,so we'd installed a security camera for just such occasions.Sure enough,it revealed a massive,
four-legged creature wandering around.Moments later,we caught sight of it gently touching the window
with his snout(鼻子)and grunting(咕噜)softly.
"He's adorable!"my 10-year-old daughter,Ella,exclaimed,"I'm going to say hello!"I cautioned her
that we didn't know if the pig was friendly, but before I could stop her,she was already out the door.To
our relief, the massive pig seemed perfectly content to be petted and fawned over ()Ella begged to
keep him,but I gently explained that we didn't have enough space.
Disappointed as Ella was,Lindsey and I decided to send the pig back.I called a local farmer to see if
the pig belonged to him. When I described the animal's size and distinctive markings,he laughed,
confirming that it was definitely Kevin Bacon, who was probably just out looking for some company. The
Hollywood actor's name gave us all a good laugh. The farmer also told us Kevin enjoyed playing with kids.
We learned that the farmer was away on business and wouldn't be able to return until the next day,He
asked if we could walk Kevin home."I'm not sure we'll be able to get him to move,"I replied,"You could
try attracting him with food,"the farmer suggested. He then mentioned that Kevin had a soft spot for Oreos
(奥利奥饼千).Fortunately,we had some Oreos in the biscuit tin.I hoped it would be enough. Then
Lindsey managed to fit Kevin with a dog leash().

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my utter dissatisfaction with a smartwatch I recently purchased from your online store.
To begin with, although I ordered it well in advance as a Mother's Day gift, the delivery was unacceptably delayed. By the time it arrived, the special occasion had already passed, causing great disappointment. Furthermore, the product fails to live up to its advertisement, lacking several key functions promised online.
Given these issues, I request a full refund. I hope you can improve your delivery efficiency and product consistency. Your prompt response would be highly appreciated.

Version 2
Dear Sir or Madam,
I'm writing to convey my dissatisfaction with a smartwatch I recently purchased from your online store.
I ordered it as a Mother's Day gift in advance; however, the product arrived long after Mother's day had passed, causing great inconvenience as I couldn't present the gift to my mother on that very day. So I’m extremely disappointed with the slow delivery. Furthermore, the product I received is different from what was advertised. It lacks the promised features and functions, which makes it a poor choice as a gift. Therefore, I would like a full refund and I hope that future orders can be delivered promptly to avoid similar inconvenience.
I hope you'll take my complaints seriously. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours, Li Hua

version 1
After checking the route to the farm, we set off with a bag of treats. Kevin trotted along happily, his ears flopping with each step. Ella giggled every time he snatched a cookie with his snout, his eyes gleaming with delight. Lindsey and I took turns holding the leash, while the kid skipped alongside, petting Kevin from time to time. The pig seemed to enjoy the attention, occasionally stopping to sniff flowers or roll in the grass but a quick wave of an Oreo always got him back on track. People on the street stared at us in amazement. The walk felt like a family outing, filled with laughter and curiosity, and Kevin became a temporary member of our family.
Suddenly, we realized there was only one Oreo left and it was impossible to find more food. Just then I saw Ella holding the last cookie high, teasing Kevin with it. "Come on, Kevin, just a little further!" she urged. The pig cocked his head, snorting playfully and took a few hesitant steps forward. But when he realized the cookie was always out of reach, he refused to move. Ella crouched down beside him, gently petting his snout. "You can do it, Kevin," she encouraged. She leaned in and planted a soft kiss on his forehead. Slowly, he took a step forward, then another, his snout twitching as if to say, "Alright, I'll trust you." When we finally reached the farm gate, Ella offered him the last Oreo. Kevin responded with a contented grunt, as if to say, "See you next time!"
version 2
After checking the route to the farm, we set off with a bag of treats. At first, Kevin walked eagerly, clearly motivated by the familiar smell of Oreos. Ella skipped beside him, laughing each time he grabbed a cookie with his snout, while Lindsey and I followed closely, taking turns holding the leash. Kevin seemed delighted by all the attention, stopping occasionally to sniff the grass or roll happily on the ground. Each pause drew curious looks from passersby, but a quick shake of the treat bag always sent him moving again. The relaxed pace and shared laughter made the journey feel less like an chore and more like a pleasant family outing. For a while, the destination hardly mattered, as Kevin walked proudly beside us like a welcomed companion.
Suddenly, we realized there was only one Oreo left and it was impossible to find more food. Ella froze for a second before lifting the final cookie into the air. Kevin followed it eagerly, took a few steps, and then stopped when he realized it wouldn't be given to him. He planted his hooves firmly on the ground, refusing to move. Ella knelt down beside him, speaking softly as she rubbed his snout. Her calm voice seemed to work better than the treat. Slowly, Kevin began to walk again, one careful step at a time. When the farm gate finally appeared, Ella smiled with relief and gave him the last Oreo. Kevin responded with a happy grunt and waddled inside.

W: Actually not. (12) I work here at the gym now. I’m a personal trainer.
M: Wow, really? I didn’t know that.
W: Yeah, I did an online course for it. Feel free to ask me if you need any help or advice.
M: I will. (13) I will swim after my warm-up exercises.
9. W: I read in the news that the aging society is going to be an increasing problem.
M: That is true.
W: But why should it be a problem? It’s natural for people to get older.
M: It is, but modern society depends on a balance of old and young people.
W: What do you mean?
M: As people get older, they stop working so they don’t generate money. Instead, they need pensions. As they age, they also need medical care, which needs to be paid for.
W: Why is that a problem?
M: Because those things are paid for with taxes. But if there aren’t enough young people working, where
will the taxes come from?
W: So what is the answer?
M: People are being encouraged to have more children. (15) You see, your mother and I only have you, so we haven’t replaced ourselves in society.
W: Ah, couples need two children just to replace themselves.
M: Exactly.
W: How is the problem being dealt with?
M: Some countries are encouraging immigration and recruiting more young people to work. Also, older people are being asked to continue working.
W: You are 59. You will reach retirement age next year. Will you continue working?
M: I think so. After all, I am not regarded as very old in this day and age. Also, I think the retirement age will have to be raised.
W: I can’t imagine doing my work until I’m very old. (16) Everyone in our office is quite young.
M: We might soon see factories and shops full of older workers.
10. Time for your weather update and three-day forecast for the eastern shore. We have some low temperatures coming at us, and it’s going to affect quite a few states over the next week or so. (17) I’m sure you’ve already heard of the heavy snow in Washington D.C. that started last night at around 11. Well, that storm is heading upward fast. We’re expecting it to hit the northern states like Delaware, New Jersey, and parts of Maryland. This could happen anytime between four and nine in the morning tomorrow. (18) Right now, temperatures in those northern states are dropping down to 10 degrees below zero, and they are expected to keep falling right down into minus 20 degrees by Sunday. You know what that means. Yes, we’re going to have a lot of snow! Pennsylvania and New York will be able to avoid the bad weather until late Monday, but it doesn’t look like this weather is going away any time soon. (19) Now take a look at this colored map. You see all that purple? That’s where temperatures are at their most extreme, 19 degrees being the lowest. We also see a lot of red here for the low twenties, followed by blue. In the meantime, we suggest you be safe and smart. (20) We’ll update you again tomorrow: Saturday the 28th.
