I sat on the sidelines with my 14-year-old son, Nathan, who was less than enthused to be at a community Christmas party for little kids. He was too old to be excited by Santa. “Look, Nathan,” I said with a gentle elbow to his ribs. “Mrs. Claus is trying to get your attention.” We walked over. “What do you want for Christmas?” she asked. “I like Legos, and I need a new tennis racket, but what I really can’t wait for is a 3D printer,” Nathan said. He planned to start an online business making cell phone cases. Mrs. Claus smiled, “My grandkids want a printer too. They have a pet duck named Tim who’s missing a leg. They’d like to print him a prosthetic (假体) with a webbed foot and magic tape.”
“Cool project,” Nathan said. “I’ll make him one out of the goodness of my heart, but it won’t be ready for Christmas. My parents will invest in my phone-case business with a loan, yet I have to save some money myself. I’ll start as soon as I can afford the printer.”
After he left, I told Mrs. Claus we’d already bought him the printer for Christmas. His siblings and grandparents had pooled money for fibre and supplies. We exchanged numbers and I promised to call when Nathan began the duck leg. I worried he’d volunteered too fast.
On Christmas morning Nathan opened the printer. “Now I can help Tim!” he shouted. Weeks later he finished a prosthetic and I dropped it to Mrs. Claus, Michele, who drove two hours to her grandkids, but the magic tape wouldn’t hold when Tim walked. Nathan built a second model, then a third and the last let Tim take a few steps while the kids cheered.
Only when Michele texted that Tim had joined the ancestors did Nathan stop the design. “He lived a good life,” she said, “and you made the ending special.” Nathan was disappointed but knew he’d done his best. It’s a sign that a good businessman cares about products and users alike. I’m blessed with a son who used his favorite Christmas present to give a gift to Mrs. Claus.
4.What did Nathan promise to do on the spot?
A.Prioritize his phone-case business.
B.Make the prosthesis for Tim free of charge.
C.Deliver the prosthesis before Christmas.
D.Let his grandparents pay for all the materials.
5.What was the author’s worry at that time?
A.Michele would reveal the secret Christmas gift.
B.Her son might give up the plan for lack of money.
C.Her son had agreed too quickly to fulfill the promise.
D.The printer would not be good enough for the prosthetic.
6.Why did the first fitting end in failure?
A.The tape failed to remain in position.
B.Tim was scared by the excitement of the children.
C.The two-hour drive caused the prosthetic not to hold.
D.Tim’s webbed foot kept slipping out of the magic tape.
7.Why did Nathan finally stop improving the design?
A.Michele asked him to pay the balance.
B.The user of the prosthetic was no longer there.
C.He believed the latest one had become perfect.
D.His parents made him focus on his own business.

Nowadays, many teenagers spend a great deal of time indoors, focusing on digital devices and schoolwork. As a result, they take little part in outdoor activities. However, outdoor activities are extremely important for teenagers’ physical and mental development.
Outdoor activities are good for teenagers’ physical health. When teenagers go outside to exercise, such as running, cycling or hiking, they can strengthen their bodies and improve their physical fitness. Fresh air and natural sunlight help them stay energetic and reduce the risk of many illnesses. Besides, taking part in outdoor sports can protect their eyesight and prevent short-sightedness, because they can look far into the distance and relax their eye muscles.
Outdoor activities also benefit teenagers’ mental health. Being close to nature helps them relax and relieve pressure from study and life. It can calm their minds and improve their mood. In addition, outdoor activities often require teamwork and communication, which help teenagers develop social skills and build confidence. They can make more friends and learn to solve problems together.
However, some teenagers are not willing to take part in outdoor activities. Some think outdoor activities are tiring or boring. Others are so busy with their studies that they have no time to go outside. To change this situation, parents and schools should encourage teenagers to step out of the room. Have you ever rushed to a roller coaster in an amusement park, queued for 30 minutes in the burning heat, but enjoyed the ride for only one minute? When recalling the experience years later, what remains vivid in your mind is the tension at the highest point, the thrilling weightlessness while diving down, and the strong sense of excitement when it finished. The long and tiring wait, however, has faded from your memory completely.
This is explained by the Peak-End Rule, developed by Daniel Kahneman, a Nobel Prize-winning economist. The rule indicates that our overall impression of an experience is determined not by its total length or ordinary moments, but by how we feel at its most intense peak and final moment, which makes our brain a biased (有偏见的) editor rather than a faithful camera.
To confirm this rule, Kahneman designed a noise experiment. Participants were exposed to two painful periods. The first was a 30-second loud, sharp noise. The second included the same 30-second unpleasant noise followed by 10 seconds of softer noise, making it last longer and contain more discomfort in total. Surprisingly, most participants preferred to experience the second one again, as its relatively gentle ending entirely transformed their memory of the suffering.
The rule deeply affects family life and education. Many students grow tired of studying mainly because they often face negative peaks such as parents’ scold when they struggle with difficult problems, and disappointing endings like extra homework immediately after they finish their given tasks. By contrast, games are carefully designed to offer frequent exciting peaks and satisfying endings, which explains their strong attraction.
The rule also applies to interpersonal relationships and business. A single quarrel before bed can ruin a whole day’s pleasant memory, while IKEA and Starbucks win customers by creating impressive peaks and warm endings. Actually, what decides our happiness is not every second we experience, but those key moments that shape our lifelong memories.
12.What can be learned about the Peak-End Rule from the first two paragraphs?
A.It was discovered by a group of psychologists.
B.It explains people’s selective memory of experiences.
C.It focuses on average feelings during an experience.
D.It proves the brain records memories exactly like a camera.
13.Why did most participants choose the second noise experience?
A.It brought them more discomfort in total.
B.It lasted longer than the first one.
C.It ended with a comparatively mild sound.
D.It had no sharp and loud noise at all.
14.Which of the following cases applies the Peak-End Rule?
A.Giving customers a warm goodbye.
B.Keeping daily study tasks all the same.
C.Perfecting every dish in a restaurant.
D.Making customer service calls longer.
15.What is the best title for the text?
A.An Experiment on Human Memory
B.Key Factors in Improving Students’ Interest
C.Secrets Behind Business Success
D.Key Moments Defining Our Memories

You’ve probably noticed it yourself — more and more people are leaning on AI at work. Statistics show that between 2024 and 2025, the number of Americans using AI on the job nearly doubled.
As these tools become part of our daily routines, it’s natural to wonder: Is AI quietly making us forgetful, or is it giving our brains a boost? 16 Rely too much on AI, and your memory might take a hit. But use it wisely, and it can sharpen focus and free up mental energy.
To understand how AI affects our thinking, it helps to distinguish between cognitive offloading and assisted thinking. Cognitive offloading means using external tools to handle mental tasks. 17 Over time, it may weaken memory. For example, heavy AI users often learn less than those who complete tasks on their own.
Assisted thinking, on the other hand, uses tools to enhance thinking without replacing it. 18 For instance, one study found that structured prompts (指令) can improve engagement compared with unguided AI use. In practice, this distinction matters.
In psychotherapy (心理治疗), for example, therapists must document sessions, track treatment plans, and remain fully present with patients. Now, an AI assistant can handle routine tasks — updating notes and organizing data — allowing therapists to focus fully on the interaction. 19
AI can also enhance how we think if used correctly. Humans have limited working memory, typically holding only three to five pieces of information at a time. 20 It keeps key information accessible, so our brains can focus on analyzing and problem-solving. The key is balance: offload routine tasks, but stay engaged with the thinking that matters. Use AI to amplify — not replace — your cognitive abilities.
A.The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
B.Users stay actively involved, using AI as a partner.
C.This can free up mental resources, but comes with a cost.
D.By supporting our working memory, AI acts as a cognitive boost.
E.This kind of intentional use preserves mental energy and sharpens focus.
F.By doing so, they can engage more deeply with people they are helping.
G.The goal is not to use AI for everything, but to use it where it matters most.

Does Takeaway Exist in Ancient China?
As early as in the Song Dynasty, “takeout” services were already available. That image is believed to be a reflection of the original takeaway boy.
In ancient times, there were three ways to order food. The first is servant order. Send a family retainer (仆人) to go to a restaurant and make 37 order. When the food is ready, there is someone who 38 (particular) delivers the food to the customer’s home, and then gets paid. The second is agreed delivery. Sign a long-term 39 (agree) with the restaurant. The store, 40 every agreed day, will pack the food well and send it to the customer’s home. The last one is door-to-door selling. The sellers from restaurants sell the food door to door, especially in the entertainment places like theatres, 41 are crowded with many people.
The to-go box, wenpan (warm tray), 42 (consist) of two layers of porcelain. When 43 (use), hot water is injected into the interlayer of the plate 44 (keep) the dishes warm. When a sudden flood struck a small remote village last summer, many villagers lost their homes and daily necessities.
The flood had washed away parts of the road, leaving deep holes filled with muddy water and broken branches lying everywhere. As soon as the rescue call was sent out, Gwyneth, a college student, and Tobin, a local delivery driver, volunteered to bring food, water and blankets to the trapped people. They packed the supplies carefully and set off early in the morning. However, the heavy rain poured down nonstop, together with thick fog that cut down visibility to only a few meters. The road was hard to recognize — they got lost.
The rain kept beating down harder, wetting their clothes through the windows. The strong wind made the truck shake slightly. Gwyneth and Tobin drove around helplessly, their hearts sinking with each passing minute. They stared at the map anxiously, looking worried. Tobin even stuck his head out of the window, only to be met by more heavy rain and thick fog. Worried that the villagers would soon run out of food and water, they felt hopeless about finding the right way.
Just as they were about to stop and check the map again, they heard faint crying from a damaged house not far away. They rushed over, stepping carefully through the muddy pools, and found an old grandmother and her little granddaughter trapped on the second floor. Shaking with hunger, they had no clean water or dry clothes left.
Gwyneth and Tobin did not hesitate to help. Tobin quickly climbed a weak ladder (梯子) to the second floor, while Gwyneth passed up bottled water and bread from their supplies. They handed the food to the two survivors gently. Gwyneth dried the girl’s wet face with a clean cloth and then wrapped her in a warm blanket. Tobin checked the house carefully, moving away loose pieces of the roof and broken wood to make sure it was safe from further danger.

【答案】12.B 13.C 14.A 15.D
根据第一段“When recalling the experience years later, what remains vivid in your mind is the tension at the highest point, the thrilling weightlessness while diving down, and the strong sense of excitement when it finished. The long and tiring wait, however, has faded from your memory completely.(多年后回想这段经历时,脑海中清晰浮现的正是那最高点的紧张感、急速下降时的惊险失重感,以及结束时强烈的兴奋感。然而,漫长而疲惫的等待过程却已完全从你的记忆中淡去)”及第二段“This is explained by the Peak-End Rule, developed by Daniel Kahneman, a Nobel Prize-winning economist. The rule indicates that our overall impression of an experience is determined not by its total length or ordinary moments, but by how we feel at its most intense peak and final moment, ...) editor rather than a faithful camera.(这一现象可以用丹尼尔·卡尼曼提出的“峰终定律”来解释。该定律指出,我们对一次经历的整体印象并非由其总时长或普通时刻所决定,而是由我们在最激烈高峰时刻和最终时刻的感受所决定的……)”可知,峰终定律解释了人对经历的有选择性的记忆。
13.细节理解题。跟据第三段“Participants were exposed to two painful periods. The first was a 30-second loud, sharp noise. The second included the same 30-second unpleasant noise followed by 10 seconds of softer noise, making it last longer and contain more discomfort in total. Surprisingly, most participants preferred to experience the second one again, as its relatively gentle ending entirely transformed their memory of the suffering.(参与者经历了两个痛苦的阶段。第一个阶段是30秒的响亮、刺耳的噪音。第二个阶段则是相同的30秒的不愉快噪音,随后是10秒的较轻噪音,这样整个过程就更长且包含更多的不适感。令人惊讶的是,大多数参与者都更愿意再次体验第二种情况,因为它的相对温和的结局彻底改变了他们对那段痛苦经历的记忆)”可知,第二次体验的结尾是更柔和的噪声,结尾感受更好。
14.推理判断题。根据第二段“The rule indicates that our overall impression of an experience is determined not by its total length or ordinary moments, but by how we feel at its most intense peak and final moment, ...(该定律指出,我们对一次经历的整体印象并非由其总时长或普通时刻所决定,而是由我们在最激烈高峰时刻和最终时刻的感受所决定的……)”及最后一段“The rule also applies to interpersonal relationships and business. A single quarrel before bed can ruin a whole day’s pleasant memory, while IKEA and Starbucks win customers by creating impressive peaks and warm endings.(这条规则也适用于人际关系和商业领域。睡前的一次争吵可能会毁掉一整天的美好回忆,而宜家和星巴克则通过创造令人印象深刻的高峰和温馨的结局来赢得顾客)”可知,根据该定律,一次经历结束时的感受是最令人记忆深刻的。A项中的案例:给顾客温暖的告别就是优化体验的结尾,符合峰终定律的应用。
15.主旨大意题。根据第二段“This is explained by the Peak-End Rule, developed by Daniel Kahneman, a Nobel Prize-winning economist. The rule indicates that our overall impression of an experience is determined not by its total length or ordinary moments, but by how we feel at its most intense peak and final moment, ...) editor rather than a faithful camera.(这一现象可以用丹尼尔·卡尼曼提出的“峰终定律”来解释。该定律指出,我们对一次经历的整体印象并非由其总时长或普通时刻所决定,而是由我们在最激烈高峰时刻和最终时刻的感受所决定的……)”可知,本文主要结合事例介绍了“峰终定律”,即一次经历中最关键时刻的体验决定我们以后对此的回忆。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
【答案】16.A 17.C 18.B 19.F 20.D

Does Takeaway Exist in Ancient China?
As early as in the Song Dynasty, “takeout” services were already available. In Zhang Zeduan’s popular painting Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival, there is a restaurant boy who has just come out of the shop with “to-go boxes” in his left hand and tableware (餐具) in his right, still 36 (wear) the shop apron and seeming to deliver the food somewhere.
In this way, the dish is still warm when it arrives at the customer’s home. Besides, some restaurants also prepared special 45 (container) to carry different kinds of dishes.
36.wearing 37.an 38.particularly 39.agreement 40.on 41.which 42.consists 43.used 44.to keep 45.containers

1.写作词数应为80个左右;
Dear Mark,
Thanks for sharing the disqualified photo case with me.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Best wishes,
Li Hua
Dear Mark,
Thanks for sharing the disqualified photo case with me. In my view, disqualifying the AI-generated photo is both reasonable and necessary.
Photography, as an art form, embodies the photographer’s painstaking efforts in composition, lighting adjustment, and on-site shooting, capturing the essence of a real-world moment. AI-generated images, despite their visual appeal, lack the human touch, the emotional resonance, and the genuine creative process that traditional photography offers.
Allowing such works in a competition would undermine the hard work of sincere participants and distort the very nature of the contest. Thus, this decision upholds the fairness and integrity of the photography competition.
Best wishes,
Li Hua

One possible version:
During their talk, the grandmother learned of Gwyneth and Tobin’s trouble. She looked at the two kind rescuers with gratitude and said firmly, “I’ve lived in this region all my life. I know the village very well, and even the narrow paths hidden by the flood are familiar to me. I’m sure that I can guide you to the village safely.” Hearing this, both Gwyneth and Tobin’s eyes lit up with hope. Immediately, they carefully helped the grandmother and her granddaughter into the truck.
With the grandmother as a guide, they headed for the village again. The grandmother sat beside the window, pointing out the hidden paths through the thick fog and reminding them to avoid deep muddy holes and broken branches. Encountering a fallen tree blocking the road, Tobin got off to move it, while Gwyneth helped the grandmother hold the little girl tightly. The heavy rain gradually eased, and their confidence grew. After nearly an hour’s drive, they finally saw the village in the distance. The trapped villagers waved warmly when spotting the truck. Tobin and Gwyneth felt a great sense of relief, knowing their mission was successful.
