Urgent: Special Summer Outdoor Protection Notice
To many, sun hats are just casual daily wear...
But When Outside, This Hat May Keep You Safe from Heat Harm!
Lots of people suffer from sudden sunstroke when staying outdoors under strong summer sunlight. Uncomfortable heat injuries happen frequently. However, most people keep working and walking outdoors without proper protection against burning sunshine.
Not all sun hats are of the same quality. Guarding your head from heat is extremely important. With various beautiful and fashionable hat designs on the market, people easily ignore the most important part — the protective lining. Therefore, we have studied related data and adopted advanced thermal insulation (隔热) technology.
It comes from professional climate science research. Many ordinary sun hats only block sunlight weakly and cannot cut down harmful heat radiation. Now, independent research from environmental scientists has developed revolutionary heat-resistant technology to prevent high-temperature harm. This excellent material design was inspired by desert animals with natural heat resistance. This creation is now called Cool Guard®.
The only outdoor hat technology is recognized by Global Climate Protection Association for heat isolation and sun protection. Its double-layer insulation structure blocks 99.8% of burning sunlight and reduces surface temperature greatly, with extra protection against ultraviolet rays (紫外线).
Top-quality daily supplies: Buy one, get one FREE! Your satisfaction is fully guaranteed. If you are not satisfied with Cool Guard® hats, just return one pair within 30 days for a complete refund. The other hat is free for you forever.

Felicity Irons is widely known as Britain’s last master of traditional rush weaving, an ancient handicraft on the edge of disappearance. Centuries ago, rush weaving used to be a widespread industry across Europe. People made baskets, mats and daily necessities with dry water plants. However, with the rise of plastic products and mass machine production in modern times, the old craft gradually faded out of people’s lives. Few young people were willing to learn the time-consuming skill, and most old craftsmen retired.
Felicity’s connection with the craft began unexpectedly. She suffered a serious car accident in her youth, which left her with permanent back pain. She needed a job that allowed her to stand and focus calmly. By chance, she discovered the nearly-lost art of rush weaving. With no teacher available, she taught herself from ancient handbooks, repeating every single step thousands of times.
For over forty years, Felicity has stuck to her small countryside workshop, far from busy cities. Unlike most modern businessmen who chase quick profits, she firmly refuses commercial simplification. She never uses cheap artificial materials, nor cuts down traditional procedures for mass production. Each of her works takes days to complete by hand. Though her income remains low and public attention is scarce, she never regrets her choice.
She believes handcrafts carry the soul of history. Rush weaving is more than making objects; it is a precious cultural memory passed down from generations. To prevent the craft from dying out completely, she opens free workshops to teach local teenagers, recording all traditional skills in detail.
Modern society values fast speed and cheap goods, but Felicity proves that true craftsmanship never goes out of date. Her lifelong persistence guards the dying tradition, telling the world that old arts deserve respect and continuous inheritance.
4. Why did Felicity Irons take up rush weaving eventually?
A. She inherited the traditional skill from her family.
B. Her physical condition matched the nature of the craft.
C. She expected to gain fame from the rare handicraft.
D. She had no other practical job choices at that time.
5. What differs Felicity from other modern crafts-related businessmen?
A. She prefers advanced equipment to improve efficiency.
B. She moves to urban workshops for wider market access.
C. She rejects commercial changes to preserve ancient rules.
D. She raises prices slightly to increase personal income.
6. What is the author’s purpose of mentioning Felicity’s free teaching workshops?
A. To show teenagers’ growing interest in traditional culture.
B. To explain the practical value of daily hand-made products.
C. To compare the differences between ancient and modern education.
D. To present her efforts to maintain the continuity of the old craft.
7. What can we infer about true craftsmanship from the whole passage?
A. Long devotion matters more than immediate gains in craftsmanship.
B. Commercial support contributes much to the survival of traditional skills.
C. Public admiration helps traditional arts develop in modern society.
D. Natural materials lay a basic foundation for hand-made creations.

Utah’s Great Salt Lake is shrinking alarmingly. Once 3,300 square miles, an area equal to Rhode Island and Delaware combined, it has shrunk to under 900 square miles, its smallest on record. The U. S. Geological Survey notes its July 2022 level hit 1,277 meters, the lowest measurement since 1847. “Human water extraction (提取), mainly for agriculture, is key, with climate change secondary,” says John Lin, a University of Utah atmospheric science professor.
The drying of the lake threatens both the environment and human health. As the water level drops, it exposes beds rich in arsenic (砷), where the arsenic content is higher than the limits set by the EPA. Though only 9% of exposed beds emit toxic (有毒的) dust when disturbed, winds carry it to the Wasatch Front, home to 2.6 million residents. What’s worse, breathing this air can cause asthma, heart disease, higher cancer risk.
The lake’s disappearance will destroy a key global ecosystem. Over 10 million migratory birds, including 34 species like American avocets, rely on it yearly. Tiny brine shrimp, 6 to 15 millimeters long, sustain the food chain and feed over 90% of these birds. Without the lake, many lose habitat, disrupting balance. It also sustains Utah’s water: its evaporation contributes 10% of mountain snowfall, providing 1.2 billion gallons of freshwater for daily use, farming and industry.
Saving the lake needs joint efforts. Citizens must cut water use — replacing wasteful lawns saves 50 gallons per square foot yearly. Farmers should grow drought-tolerant crops and boost irrigation efficiency from 60% to over 80%. Most importantly, the state must enforce strict water-saving laws, fund protection with $200 million annually, and redirect more water to the lake.
This crisis shows environmental protection is necessary. The Great Salt Lake’s fate links human activities to natural health. Respecting nature and taking action now can prevent long-term disasters and protect our future.
8. What do we know about Utah’s Great Salt Lake from the first paragraph?
A. It covers 3,300 square miles at present.
B. It is now larger than Rhode Island and Delaware combined.
C. Climate change is the main cause of its shrinkage.
D. Its water level in July 2022 was the lowest in over 170 years.
9. What does the underlined word “it” probably refer to in paragraph 2?
A. An exposed arsenic-rich bed.
B. The polluted lake water.
C. The poisonous dust from the exposed beds.
D. The wind blowing over the lake.
10. What can we infer from the third paragraph?
A. Brine shrimp are the unique food source for migratory birds.
B. The lake is a major contributor to Utah’s freshwater supply.
C. 34 species of migratory birds will disappear without the lake.
D. The lake’s evaporation reduces mountain snowfall by 10%.
11. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A. Utah’s Great Salt Lake: A Growing Crisis
B. The Causes of Utah’s Great Salt Lake Shrinkage
C. Protect Utah’s Great Salt Lake Together
D. The Relationship Between Humans and Nature

As the use of large language models like ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini has grown rapidly, chatbots have been found to strengthen users’ illusions and amplify (放大) negative thoughts, even pushing some toward suicide. More commonly, AI chatbots comfort and reassure anxious users who repeatedly ask the same questions for relief. Though such replies ease anxiety briefly, they strengthen the habit of seeking comfort repeatedly and leave people more stuck over time, which is not helpful for forming healthy thinking patterns or a happier life.
Many people now turn to chatbots for emotional support instead of family, friends or therapists (治疗专家), worries clinical doctors. However, it is easy to understand this trend, when suffering from anxiety or disturbing thoughts, people prefer talking to a computer. Chatbots never laugh at, blame or ignore users; they are always available and respond warmly, patiently and supportively, making users feel comforted immediately.
Yet these advantages bring clear harms. Unlike human loved ones who may finally feel tired of repeated complaints and push people to seek professional help, chatbots never get annoyed. They keep confirming users’ words without encouraging real therapy, so users keep returning to chatbots and their deep-seated problems remain unsolved.
Worse still, in clinical cases, patients’ unreasonable beliefs often become firmer after long conversations with chatbots. Chatbots usually follow users’ expressions and treat their delusional ideas (妄想观念) as reasonable topics to discuss instead of gently pointing out their wrong viewpoints, worsening their mental conditions.
The inventors remind people to think carefully about their purposes of using chatbots. If they just chat to kill loneliness or anxiety, they should avoid overusing them. Users need to tell whether a conversation brings new understanding or deepens a negative cycle. Only with self-awareness can AI be a helpful companion; otherwise, it will strengthen the negative thoughts people try to escape.
12. What long-term effect do AI chatbots have on anxious users?
A. They cause sudden mental diseases.
B. They keep users in negative cycles.
C. They offer effective short-term relief.
D. They reduce users’ desire for communication.
13. Why do many people turn to AI chatbots for comfort?
A. They are approachable and respond mildly.
B. They offer professional psychological advice.
C. Human friends ignore personal worries.
D. Online talks bring more personal safety.
14. What is the main idea of paragraph 3?
A. Chatbots may produce hidden mental risks for users.
B. Users tend to share complaints with chatbots.
C. Human loved ones are more helpful than chatbots.
D. Chatbots fail to address users’ real mental troubles.
15. What is the author’s attitude towards using chatbots for emotional comfort?
A. Fully supportive. B. Strongly critical.
C. Objective and cautious. D. Unconcerned and neutral.

The rain beat heavily against the café’s old window. Naples had an old tradition “suspended coffee” (悬停咖啡): lucky customers paid for two coffees but drank one, leaving the other free for the poor. Luca wiped a cup restlessly, fingers brushing the counter, thinking, “Can I keep this tradition alive?” Since taking over his grandfather’s café, it had been empty; customers hurried by, ignoring the faded sign. His neighbor’s words rang: “This tradition is dead — focus on your business.” He frowned, doubt heavy in his heart.
Suddenly, a poorly-dressed old man walked unsteadily in, wet all over and shaking. “Excuse me... is there a suspended coffee here?” he asked quietly. Luca’s heart moved. He made a cup of hot espresso and pushed it to the old man, who held it with tears in his eyes and whispered “thank you” again and again. Luca felt a kind of satisfaction that money could not bring.
That evening, he repainted the “suspended coffee” sign, his hands moving gently as if he were protecting a precious treasure. From then on, he quietly prepared one coffee for those in need every day. Soon, a student left some extra coins, an office worker paid for two coffees, and more and more people joined in. The café became warm with kindness, and Luca often stood by the window, a soft smile on his face as he watched the small acts of kindness around him. One day, an unemployed father who had once got help here came back to reserve ten cups of coffee.
Luca smiled and understood his grandfather’s words: kindness never disappears. The rain stopped, and the sun shone on the bright sign. He knew that the suspended coffee was more than a tradition — it was a promise of warmth that would be passed on.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
As the days went by, the suspended coffee tradition spread far beyond the small café.

【答案】
As the days went by, the suspended coffee tradition spread far beyond the small café. More coffee shops along the old streets of Naples hung their own new “suspended coffee” signs, reviving this forgotten warm tradition. Travelers passing through the town would deliberately stop by, pay for an extra cup to leave their kindness. Even local bakeries and bookstores started similar initiatives: suspended bread for hungry homeless people, suspended books for teens who can’t afford them. The whole town was wrapped in soft warmth.
One afternoon, Luca received a letter and realized the true power of his small act of kindness. The letter was written by the first poor old man who had asked for a suspended coffee months before. He wrote that the hot cup of coffee gave him the courage to pull through his hardest time after losing his job and home. Now he had got back on his feet and donated his savings to set up a public fund to keep the suspended coffee tradition running across the whole city. “One small cup of warmth can light up a whole dark life,” he wrote at the end. Luca looked up at the bright sign shining in the sun, tears welling up in his eyes.
