Computers can injure (伤害) you. Most other injuries happen suddenly. For example, if you fall off a bike and break your arms, it happens very quickly. But computer injuries happen slowly.
You probably know how to ride a bike safely. Now let’s learn how to use a computer safely.
Your eyes
Too much light can injure your eyes, so never sit too close to a computer screen. Your eyes should be at least 50 centimeters from the screen. Remember to look away from it sometimes. This gives your eyes a rest.
When you use a computer, the window should be on your left or your right. If it is behind you, the light will reflect on the screen. If the window is in front of you, the sun and the screen will both shine into your eyes.
Your hands and wrists (手腕)
Hand and wrist injuries can happen because the hands and wrists are moved in the same way hundreds of times. If you use a keyboard for a long time, follow these three rules:
Rest your wrists on something.
Keep your elbows (肘) at the same height as the keyboard.
Stop sometimes and exercise your hands, wrists in a different way.
Your back
Some people sit for many hours in front of a computer. If you sit in the wrong way, you can injure your back or your neck. So you should sit with your back straight. The top part of the screen should be in front of your eyes. Your forearms, wrists, hands and the upper part of your legs should all be parallel (平行的) to the floor. If you are sitting for a long time, get up every thirty minutes and exercise your arms, legs and neck.
Enjoy your computer, but use it safely.

The hot pot is one of the most popular meals in China. The hot pot appeared in China about 2,000 years ago. It used to be eaten in winter, but now it appears on tables all year round.
Apart from (除……之外) its delicious taste, there are two other important reasons for the Chinese to like the hot pot. The first one is that the hot pot is a great way to make new friends. People sit around the pot, talking, eating, drinking and having fun. When people enjoy the hot pot, it will make people feel comfortable and relaxed. The other is that the hot pot is a “healthy meal”. Eating the hot pot can warm the body and improve circulation (血液循环) in winter.
There are several kinds of hot pots in China with different soup. Two of the most popular hot pots are Sichuan hot pot and Beijing mutton hot pot. Sichuan hot pot is famous for its numbing and spicy (又麻又辣的) taste because of Sichuan pepper. As for Beijing mutton hot pot, mutton is its main part, and the soup is made from lamb bones.
When you eat a hot pot in a restaurant, there are usually two kinds of soup bases (汤底): clear and spicy. A clear soup base has a quite mild (清淡的) taste, which is made from seafood or meat bones. A spicy soup base usually has Sichuan pepper, which is spicy and salty. If you have a mixed group, you can choose a double-flavor hot pot (鸳鸯锅). It has a clear soup base on one side, a spicy soup base on the other and a divider in the middle.

2.How many reasons are there for the Chinese to like the hot pot?

Hello from different landscapes

I am a desert. My body is mostly made of sand and I seldom see rain. I am very hot during the day and very cold at night. Nobody wants to live in such difficult conditions, but a few plants and animals can survive. How amazing!
I am the ocean. I am huge. I cover more than two-thirds of the earth’s surface, so people call the earth the “Blue Planet”. What a beautiful name! I am home to hundreds of thousands of living things.

They have put 100 clean-up machines in the Pacific Ocean where there is a lot of floating (漂浮的) plastic. They use smart boats with computers to stop plastic in 30 big rivers before it goes into the ocean. So far, they have collected over 30 million kilos of rubbish—that’s as heavy as 3 Eiffel Towers.
Boyan doesn’t just throw the plastic away. His team makes new things from it, like sunglasses. The money from selling these things helps pay for more clean-up work. I am Lisa. My sister finished high school two weeks ago. As a special gift, our parents took us to India (印度). Last weekend was interesting but scary.
We went camping in a small village in India. First, we took a long bus ride to a lake in the countryside. There we put up our tents and made a fire to keep us warm and cook food on. On the first night, we just sat under the moon and told each other stories. But I was so tired that I went to sleep early.
The next morning, my sister and I got a terrible surprise. When we looked out of our tent, we saw a big snake sleeping near the fire. I was so scared that I couldn’t move. We shouted to our parents to let them know about the danger. My dad started to jump up and down in our tent. This woke the snake up and it moved into the forest near the lake. Have you ever been in a rainforest? There aren’t any in Europe but there are some in Africa, Asia and South America. I was in a rainforest once. It was hot and dark. It was also very wet. Water was falling from the leaves of the trees like rain. The ground was covered with dead leaves but there were thousands of new plants growing.
The most exciting plants were the large trees. Some were 50 metres high. I could only see little pieces of blue sky through the leaves. All the trees had small plants growing on them, and some of these had beautiful, brightly coloured flowers.
It was very noisy. I could hear lots of birds. They were hard to see. but I saw one green and red parrot flying high above me. It was beautiful. The bugs also made a lot of noise and I could feel them on my arms and legs.
I didn’t see any monkeys. They were probably sleeping high up in the treetops. I did see a small snake on the ground. I hate snakes so I walked quickly but carefully out of the rainforest.
I wouldn’t like to live in a rainforest but I am happy that I could see one.

Today was an amazing day. There was a total solar eclipse in Wuhan! I woke up early because I couldn’t wait to see it!
My friends and I went down to the Yangtze River to find a good place to watch it. We took cameras, chairs, food and drink, and special glasses so we could look at it. Lots of people gathered there to watch too. Slowly, the moon moved in front of the sun. It looked like someone bit a hole in the sun! It got darker and darker as the moon slowly covered the sun.
At 9:26 a.m. the moon completely covered the sun. The sky went dark. The crowd gasped and cheered. The light of the sun made a ring of light around the moon. I took this photograph then. The total eclipse lasted for over five minutes! Then it passed and the sky started to get brighter again.
I was really inspired by the eclipse this morning. In the afternoon, I spent hours reading about astronomers, eclipses, and how the planets move in our solar system. The universe is simply amazing! I also watched some videos with famous Chinese astronauts. I want to become an astronaut or astronomer someday too. The sky is the limit!

Rest your wrists on something.
Keep your elbows (肘) at the same height as the keyboard.
Stop sometimes and exercise your hands, wrists in a different way.

Then, both of them started running. After a while, the father suddenly stopped. “Are you tired, Dad?” the boy asked. “No. There are some small stones in my shoes. I need to take them out,” the father said. The boy said he had stones in his shoes, too. But he decided to take them out after arriving at the hilltop. He kept running when his father stopped to take out the stones.

It was very boring! And because of the bad weather, everything looked grey and we couldn’t see anything below. But my father was still in high spirits. He seemed to enjoy this experience very much. There were many tourists at the rest area eating things. My mother didn’t bring enough money, so we only had one bowl of rice and some fish. I was too hungry, so the food tasted great. I didn’t see any monkeys. They were probably sleeping high up in the treetops. I did see a small snake on the ground. I hate snakes so I walked quickly but carefully out of the rainforest.

Passage 1
(24-25七年级下·山东临沂市河东区·期末)
