I believe everyone can make a difference. Let’s use our free time to help others and spread kindness!

Good morning, dear teachers and audience.
I’m glad to give a speech about my voluntary experience. I have worked in a charity organization for three years. I was just an ordinary middle school student at first, but I soon found helping others is really worth doing.
Now I spend much of my spare time on voluntary work. I often donate my pocket money to the animal shelter. On weekends, I help elderly visitors and strangers find their way in the street. I also go to the nursing home to talk with the elders and look after them warmly.
In my eyes, helping others can make our own life meaningful. Most of all, good teamwork and hard effort can make our voluntary work more successful. Never think you are too small to make a difference. Anyone can help people in need with practical action.

Hu Sha, as a doctor, was chosen as a candidate (候选人) for “China’s Good Doctors and Good Nurses” in 2025. She served with the 20th and 21st Chinese medical teams in Zimbabwe. In Zimbabwe, she helped run the China- Zimbabwe Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Center. At first, some local people were not sure about TCM.
She started medical services there for children with cerebral palsy (大脑性瘫痪). Many of these children didn’t have good motor function or clear speech. ★“Reduce, reuse, recycle,” these are the three Rs that environmental activists have stressed. 1 Recently, this idea came to life in China in a clever way in a famous scenic spot (风景区) in Dunhuang, Northwest China’s Gansu Province.
★With the arrival of the tourist season, the scenic spot has been crowded with visitors around 20, 000 a day since July. With so many people, the challenge of managing waste has become more serious, putting cleaners under pressure. The scenic spot came up with a fun way to help: “ 2 ” Here’s how it works: Visitors are given trash bags and encouraged to pick up litter around the site (地点). In return, they get small gifts showing Dunhuang’s rich culture.
★Isn’t this another good form of the three Rs spirit? I still remember going to some scenic spots, especially historical sites where people gather in a small area. 3 Not only does it influence the cleanliness of a site, but it is also likely to harm the natural environment. So, when I saw how the program was carried out, it was clear this way was more than just a trick to attract attention. It was truly an effort to encourage a culture of responsibility and care. 4 It turns every visitor into an environmental guard, actively taking part in protecting the beauty of the site.
★ 5 It’s great to see that tourists are not just enjoying the sights, but also helping to protect them. Turning tourists into environmental guards is a new and exciting way to keep our scenic spots clean and beautiful for everyone to enjoy. It’s a reminder that while we enjoy the beauty around us, we also have the power to protect it.
A.The activity does more than just cleaning up the area.
B.But how can we realize them?
C.Other places in China are also doing similar things.
D.Environmental protection still has a long way to go.
E.Trash hunt for gifts.
F.At these places littering is something we always have to try hard to deal with

This national program covers education, medical care, farming technology and so on. Many areas have benefited from the program since it started in 2003, and Sheyit is among them.
Sheyit Primary School is a faraway village school in Xinjiang. Thanks to the “Go West” program, many young graduates have arrived here to help. Although they come from different places across China, they all share the common wish: to bring hope and knowledge to the children and lead them to a brighter future in this way.
Those volunteer teachers at Sheyit Primary School set clear rules in class and expect students to finish homework on time. They know that many parents are busy herding (放牧) animals and have little time to help their children with homework. So, the teachers work very hard to help the students study. “This is where I discover the true meaning of my life,” a volunteer teacher here said. “When I see my students grow through my lessons, their progress becomes my prize.”
The students also greatly treasure their teachers’ teaching and care. They describe their teachers as the sun. They love going to school so much that some even come on weekends to study!
“When active students meet selfless (无私的) teachers, improvement is only a matter of time. Our school is no longer the worst in the city,” said Jin Wenbin, the leader of Sheyit Primary School. Since 2023, the school has produced many graduates. The graduates have done very well in local exams and got into top middle schools in Xinjiang.
6.How does the program help these less developed areas in China?
7.What is the young graduates’ common wish?
8.Do many parents have much time or little time to help their children with homework?
9.How are their teachers described as?
10.When did the Sheyit Primary School start to send many excellent graduates to top middle schools?

【详解】36.句意:在一所房子里,一位名叫Lana女士的老年妇女正处于严重的困境之中。
根据后文“Suffering from a diabetic episode (糖尿病急性发作), she fell down in the kitchen and couldn’t move.”

leave a lasting influence on为固定用法,意为“给……

Community Time BankThe Community Time Bank is all about helping each other. Give your time to help others today, and they will help you when you need it in the future. This makes the neighborhood warmer and friendlier. Small acts like talking to the elderly, teaching them to use a smartphone, or picking up medicine can make the community a better place.
How does it work?In the Time Bank, one hour of service is worth one credit (积分). Every new member gets 5 credits to start with. You can use your credits in two ways.

Here are some everyday things you can get with your credits:
7 credits→a notebook 8 credits→a bar of soap
10 credits→a haircut 13 credits→a warm scarf
15 credits→a small bag of rice
You can only use them for yourself, not for others.
How to join?Give help: Go to the Task Tree. There are many paper leaves. Each leaf is a task someone needs. Pick a leaf, then call the task giver to set a time. After you help, you get credits.

Hu Sha offered free treatment, including acupuncture (针灸) and simple exercises. She also used simple TCM tools, such as cupping jars (火罐), as part of her treatment. After weeks or months of treatment, some children could turn over, sit up, or speak simple words. These improvements were small, but they meant a lot to the children’s families. Many parents said they finally saw hope. When they saw their children’s progress, they began to believe in these TCM methods.
Gradually, local people called her “Dr. Chipo” in their language. Their trust in TCM grew deeper, and they were deeply thankful for the help TCM brought to their families. For them, Hu Sha was a gift that China had brought to the people of Zimbabwe. The name showed their respect and thanks because they saw her patience, care, and hard work.
Hu Sha also shared TCM culture with local people. She organized activities to introduce TCM knowledge and taught local doctors and nurses some basic TCM skills. She also introduced Chinese culture to local students.
During her stay, she treated more than 13,000 people and won high praise from the local people. Her story shows that TCM is a treasure of Chinese culture and can bring health, friendship and hope to people around the world.

The “Go West” program is a voluntary service program. It helps less developed areas in China by sending college graduates to work there for 1 to 3 years.

The “Go West” program is a voluntary service program. It helps less developed areas in China by sending college graduates to work there for 1 to 3 years.
