Passage 1
(24-25高二下·安徽滁州·期末)
In a small, sleepy town, there lived a kind-hearted but poor baker named Tom. Tom’s bakery was the heart of the community, a place where villagers gathered every morning. Tom worked long hours every day, yet his business barely brought him enough to make ends meet. But he never complained. Even on the toughest days, he would still greet each customer with a warm smile and a friendly word, always ready to offer a kind gesture or a listening ear.
One year, a severe drought hit the town and people began to struggle. Tom, seeing the sufferings of his neighbors, decided to do something. Every morning, he would bake extra loaves of bread and place them outside his bakery for anyone in need. People were grateful, but some took the bread without a word of thanks. Although some villagers said that Tom was such a fool, Tom never minded, just happy that he could give others a hand in the hardship.
On a cold, rainy evening, as Tom was closing his bakery, he noticed a young, ragged-looking man standing across the street, watching the bakery. The man had been there for several days, but he never took the free bread. Curious, Tom decided to find out why.
He walked over to the man and asked, “Why don’t you take the bread? You look like you need it.” The man, whose name was Jack, replied, “I’m an artist. I’ve been down on my luck. But I don’t want to take charity. I want to earn my way.” Tom was touched by Jack’s pride. So Jack got a job in the bakery, helping with the baking and cleaning.

Passage 2
(24-25高二下·安徽宣城·期末)
It was a regular day at the smartphone store. My job was to help customers all, whether it was something as simple as transferring contacts or as tricky as fixing a phone that wouldn’t turn on. People came in stressed about their phones all the time, but I knew how to handle it. And I liked the work. There was something satisfying about solving problems and sending people on their way with their devices working as they should.
Then Joe appeared. He looked to be in his late 40s. His hair was slightly graying, with strands falling across his forehead as if he’d been running his hands through it. His shirt was untucked, and his tie was loose and hanging at an odd angle around his neck.
He was practically running toward the counter, his face turning red, eyes wide with panic. He grasped his phone like it was a lifeline, his fingers white from the grip. “You need to give me a new phone!” Joe almost shouted, waving his phone in the air like it was about to explode. “This one you sold me a few days ago is broken! My phone’s camera is totally messed up, and I need a decent photo right now!”
I tried to stay calm. Something about Joe’s urgency made me pay closer attention. “Let’s take a look at what’s going on,” I said, signalling him to hand me the phone. Then he thrust the phone into my hands, nearly dropping it in a hurry. “Look at this! Every picture is ruined!” His voice was sharp, and he sounded out of breath.
I opened the photo gallery. The pictures looked like something out of a funhouse mirror. “Hmm,” I said, trying to keep my tone neutral. “It looks like there’s a filter (滤镜) turned on, sir.” Joe’s frustration grew visibly, his face covered with disbelief. “No, there wasn’t! I didn’t mess with anything! My photos were fine when I took them. They have to be fixed — now!”

Passage 3
(23-24高二下·阜阳一中·期末)
Nancy is used to getting up early every day. She is a young mother. By seven, she has already eaten breakfast, had a cup of coffee, washed the dishes, taken her shower, and put on her make-up. Then, it’s time to do the housework.
One early Saturday morning, when she was washing her son’s vacuum bottle (保温瓶), she felt upset. After having been used for long, the bottle was in poor condition. It was high time that she should buy a new one for her kid Bill, but her budget was limited. She had to decide that she would buy a new one sometime later. Complaining wasn’t how she would normally choose to start the day, especially with the sun shining.
To cheer up and continue the day a bit more optimistically, she left the housework for later and set out with her little kid Bill for their morning walk on the beach a little earlier than usual. The local shops hadn’t opened yet. It was quiet outside; there were few people around.
Walking through the downtown area, something on the pavement caught her attention. From a distance, it appeared to be a package of some sort. They walked over and Nancy picked it up. Upon examination, it turned out to be a brown paper bag. The downtown had nine blocks with stores. Grocery stores, furniture shops, cake shops, banks, bookstores, home-goods stores, clothing shops, and other businesses lined the street. Looking around, Nancy found none of them had been open for business. It was too early.
Nancy knew all this indicated that the object had most likely been purchased by someone the evening or day before. Since it was near the road, Nancy guessed someone must have dropped it, probably while loading other bags into a car.
Nancy looked inside the bag for more information. After opening it, she found there was a small handbag. Inside the bag there were many cards. Among them there was the owner’s business card, which showed the owner’s name and phone number. Besides, there was a box in the brown bag. “What may be in the box?” Nancy thought to herself.

Passage 4
(23-24高二下·安徽芜湖·期末)
John decided to go skiing with his friend, Keith. So they loaded up John’s car and headed north. After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible snowstorm. The snow was falling harder and harder and it was more and more difficult to go on driving. So they decided to look for a house along the way to protect themselves from the heavy snow. At last they saw a small farm in front of them. Thus they pulled into the farm and asked the middle-aged lady who answered the door if they could spend the night in her house.
“I realize it’s terrible weather out there but I have this house only big enough for my five children, and I have no spare room for you,” she explained. “I’m afraid that I can’t offer you a comfortable place to spend the night and you have to continue to look for your shelter.”
John and Keith felt disappointed. It was late and they were not sure of finding a safe shelter for the night. They didn’t know what they should do next. John looked at Keith, who kept silent. Just then, he looked around and found an empty storehouse in the yard. An idea struck him. He was determined to beg the lady to permit them to stay in the storehouse.
“Don’t worry,” John said. “We’ll be happy to sleep in the storehouse. And if the weather breaks, we’ll be gone at first light.” The lady agreed, and the two men found their way to the storehouse and settled in for the night.
But there was little furniture in the storehouse, and it was such freezing weather. They were trembling with cold and they might be most likely to freeze at night. It seemed that they would have to sleep in their clothes. Just then, three children walked into the storehouse, with something in their hands.

Passage 5
(23-24高二下·安徽亳州·期末)
It was one of those sunny mornings when merely breathing seemed to be an event worth celebrating. I was in a particularly good mood as my mother had just given me RM400(马来西亚币)for my daily expenses during the week that she would be away with my father in China to visit her sick grandaunt. I was wondering if I survived on bread and butter the whole week, I would have RM300 to buy the latest computer games! It was certainly a great way to begin the day.
As I neared the classroom, I heard a loud noise coming from it and quickly rushed in. My classmates were gathered around Tommy’s table as he searched through some personal items. Tommy had always been a popular boy in class. Not only was he bright and well-mannered, but he also came from a wealthy family that provided him with all he could ask for.
My classmates told me that Tommy had lost the money that he had brought as a donation to the welfare home that we were supposed to visit that afternoon. Understanding the situation, I suggested that we organize a search around the classroom and inform the class teacher as soon as possible. In no time, Miss Soh rushed to the classroom. She decided to run a search through everyone’s bag. We quickly stood by our tables and emptied the contents of our bags onto the table. When it came to my turn, I took out all my possessions. As Miss Soh took out the RM400 from my wallet, the class fell into a shock.
Up till then, I had no idea that the amount lost was exactly RM400. Everyone stared at me in horror. Miss Soh was pleased that her efforts had borne fruit. In a loud voice, she demanded to know where the money had come from. I told her the truth, but she appeared not to have heard anything that I had said. She claimed loudly that I was the thief, because my family was poor and could not possibly afford to give me RM400.

Passage 6
(24-25高二下·安徽滁州·期末)
Hunger
When I was a young boy, my mother would place spoonfuls of vegetables onto my plate whether I wanted them or not and the rule in our family was that we always had to clean our plates. However, I rarely saw my mother eat the vegetables herself. She always served us first. She never seemed hungry.
She worked for a rich lady in town, and I always assumed that the reason why she didn’t have our tasteless meals was that she had eaten meats and sweets in the rich lady’s kitchen. Our meals were boring, and there was never enough since there were ten of us — my parents plus eight children.
One afternoon my older sisters were sick, so they couldn’t take care of me. Therefore, my mother had no choice but to bring me with her. It was a long winter day and as my father hadn’t had much work, we had even less food than usual. So I was very excited to go to the rich woman’s house.
My mother placed me in a corner while she rolled out pie crust (饼皮). Then she cooked some meat, and by the afternoon, the pleasant smell filled the kitchen and was making its way into my empty stomach. Then, a bell rang in the kitchen and my mother told me, “Don’t move” and then left.
I tried to do as told, but then I thought it wouldn’t matter if I ate just one blackberry. So I put a single blackberry into my mouth. What an explosion of flavor! The wonderful taste hitting my empty stomach was more than I could handle! Soon I was throwing blackberries into my mouth with two hands! It wasn’t until I was staring at the empty bowl that I noticed the empty, unbaked pie crust sitting on the table waiting for the berries. I looked around for more berries, but there was none. Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching, so I quickly hid into the cupboard (碗柜).

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·安徽大联考·期末)
There lived a lady named Gita in a town, whose life was a constant celebration of joy. She was fond of dancing and singing, and her daughter, Geetu, was just like her. They were not just mother and daughter but best friends, often found dancing, singing, painting, and cooking together.
One day, an announcement spread across their town: a mother-daughter dance competition was going to be held. Gita was over the moon with excitement. When Geetu came back from school that day, Gita, filled with enthusiasm, asked if she would like to participate in the competition. Geetu, absorbed in playing with her pet parrot, absent-mindedly uttered “hmm”, which Gita took as a “yes”.
And so, the preparation began. Every day after Geetu returned from school, Gita would drag her to a space in the living room. They selected a lively song that made their feet tap smoothly. Gita, with her years of dancing experience, worked out a routine that combined graceful turns and energetic steps. Geetu, though initially struggling a bit, soon caught up in the rhythm. As they danced, their laughter filled the room, and they lost themselves in the music.
As time passed by, their practice sessions became more intense. One day, Gita went shopping for the perfect costumes. She picked out two matching dresses, one for herself and the other for Geetu. The dresses were a beautiful shade of blue, decorated with delicate sequins(亮片)that shone like stars. When she brought them home, Geetu felt surprised and asked, “What are these beautiful dresses for, Mom?” Gita was taken by surprise but quickly explained the situation.
Hearing what Mom said, Geetu felt somewhat hesitant about the competition, though she was passionate about dancing. As a matter of fact, she was buried under a mountain of schoolwork, with endless assignments and upcoming exams. What’s worse, just thinking about performing on stage filled her with anxiety. She worried about making mistakes and being laughed at by the audience.

Passage 1
(23-24高二下·安徽芜湖·期末)
Taimur and Daniyal were twins and had been my next door neighbors since I was five years old. Not only did we go to the same school, but our evenings and weekends were spent together too. It was like we were inseparable. I never felt that I needed any friends other than them. Unexpectedly, one evening their parents shared the news of them moving to another country — Australia.
I was shocked to realize that we would never be together. I started recalling all the good times we had spent together, such as playing in the school breaks, the play dates, and all the fun things we did. Was it all going to end?
When we had been through so many highs and lows together, shared secrets and supported each other through thick and thin, their moving away felt like my heart was being taken away. The news of their departure left me feeling empty and lost.
I was thinking about the biggest change that I was going to face in a few days. It was a difficult pill to swallow, but I knew I must move on. Though it wasn’t easy at first, I was trying my level best to beat the mental pain I was in.
After hearing the news, every day felt like a struggle, the school didn’t feel the same; the lunch breaks had no purpose. Soon there would be no one to compare the test marks with, homework remarks would not excite me like before, and so on. I couldn’t help but feel lost and alone already.
For a few days, I even felt less confident while rehearsing (排练) for my performance at the upcoming school’s annual event. But what I learned at this point in life was that your family can be the strongest support when you don’t even realize it. Turn to your family for support if necessary. Reach out to people who care about you. Find meaningful connections and share how you feel.

Passage 2
(23-24高二下·六安二中·期末)
People may often think back to the good old days in their former schools. In the charm of school life, where classrooms are seats of learning and the schoolyard becomes a source of memory, there are a number of stories mixed with humor, warmth, and teacher-student relationships.
Mr. Brown was a countryside teacher, but not an ordinary one; he was a storyteller, a mentor (导师), and a friend to all his students. His classroom was a world of its own, full of colorful characters and brilliant ideas. One day, during the noon break, a student named Julie noticed a young cat wandering with fairly quick, light and quiet steps through the familiar grounds where many schoolyard tales were born. Julie took her to Mr. Brown, who had magical tricks for handling even the smallest things. With Mr. Brown’s permission, Julie and her classmates built a shelter for the cat in a corner of the campus.
The days turned into weeks, and the cat grew under the care of Mr. Brown and his students. Once in a while, she became a temporary resident of the classroom, much to the delight of the whole class. They named her “Campus”, a name that generalized (概括) the spirit of their school days.
As the year progressed, Campus was not just an animal, but a tie connecting each of them and a thread of continuity in their lives. She played on desks, slept in chairs, and hid in folders, thus becoming an unofficial mascot (吉祥物) of the classroom. The students found comfort in her presence, and Mr. Brown was quite happy to watch them grow through her company.
As graduation neared, Mr. Brown gathered his students for one last lesson. He told them that they would soon be exploring new horizons. He reminded them that life was full of unforeseeable twists and turns along with unexpected potentials, just like the appearance of a cat in their schoolyard. At the moment, the students were greatly touched and deep down there arose a strong love for the memorable warmth and hearty laughter of their school days.
Then, Mr. Brown and the students agreed to meet there once again in eight years.

Passage 1
(23-24高二下·合肥六校联盟·期末)
Holidays are not necessarily for fun or rest. Doing something meaningful can also bring special pleasure. When the final bell rang, the students were reminded that there would be no school on Monday — the Labour Day. “Enjoy your extra day off,” said the teacher to her class.
An extra day of fun suited Kayla just fine. She loved to play with her friends. When the school bus dropped Kayla off, she ran into the house happily.
“How was school, Kayla?” asked her mum.
“It was great, Mum. I am excited about no school on Monday.”
“You just started back to school two weeks ago. Already in need of a break, huh?” asked Kayla’s mum with a laugh.
Kayla slept in the next morning. Saturday was her favourite day of the week. It rained most of the day, so Kayla enjoyed playing video games inside. On Sunday, her friends came over and they played basketball for several hours.
Then it was Labour Day, you know, the extra day off that Kayla was so looking forward to. But Kayla was awakened by her dad. He told Kayla that in honour of Labour Day, the family would be cleaning both inside and outside the house. Kayla couldn’t believe it. This was a holiday, a day when she was supposed to be enjoying freshly squeezed lemonade while playing in her tree house.
“Kayla, your breakfast is ready. We have a lot of work to do today. Let’s get a move on,” said Kayla’s mum. As she sat down at the kitchen table, Kayla asked her parents, “Are you serious about working today? Isn’t Labour Day a holiday?”
“Yes, Kayla, it is,” replied her mum, “but your mum and I thought hard today would make you appreciate why Labour Day was observed in the first place.”

Passage 2
(23-24高二下·安徽阜阳·期末)
Truman’s parents were scientists, and he also wanted to be a scientist, so he was determined to be at the top of science subject. With only one week and one assignment to go before the summer holiday, Truman knew that to secure the top spot, his final report had to shine.
The topic was beehives (蜂巢), a subject that Mrs. Lawrence, his teacher, had emphasized the need for a unique perspective to earn an A+.
Truman opened the door to find his four-year-old brother, Bryan, who sat on the floor in the living room with paper tubes all over the floor.
Bryan called, “Truman, help me build a city!”
With a sigh, Truman replied, “I’m sorry, Bryan, but I have to write a report about beehives.” Stepping carefully between the scattered tubes, he went into his room, deep in thought about his project.
Shortly after, Bryan appeared at the door, his eyes sparkling (发亮).“Truman, I know where there’s a beehive,” he said.
Truman followed Bryan to the garage where they found a real beehive hidden among the firewood. Bending down, he removed the beehive from the wood. As Truman examined it closely, he was fascinated by the hexagonal (六边形的) structure of each cell. “Why the hexagon?” he thought.
After dinner, Truman did the dishes. He glanced at the clock. If he didn’t think of something soon, his chance to get an A+ would be slim.
As Truman turned around, he stepped on something. He hadn’t seen Bryan play with paper tubes behind him.
“Get your tubes out of here, Bryan!” Truman said angrily.
Bryan ran into the living room, crying.
Truman sighed and gathered the paper tubes. Suddenly, he found that they were arranged with one in the middle and surrounded by six others. They reminded Truman of the beehive. The center tube formed a hexagon, just like the cells of the hive. Truman tried to use different numbers of tubes to surround the center tube, and then Truman got the new angle. But what else did he need to accompany his report? Maybe a model beehive!

Passage 1
(23-24高二下·安徽芜湖·期末)
In Rome there was once a poor slave whose name was Androclus. His master was a cruel man, and so unkind to him that Androclus ran away. He hid himself in a wild wood for many days; but there was no food to be found, and he grew so weak and sick that he thought he would die. So one day he climbed into a cave and lay down to wait for death, and soon he was fast asleep.
After a while, a great noise woke him up. A lion had come into the cave, and was roaring loudly. Androclus was very afraid, for he felt sure that the beast would kill him. Soon, however, he saw the lion was not angry, but that his foot were hurt.
Then Androclus grew so courageous that he started to examine the lion’s paw to see what was the matter. The lion stood quite still, and rubbed his head against the man’s shoulder. He seemed to say, “I know that you will help me.”
Androclus lifted the paw from the ground, and saw that it was a long, sharp thorn that hurt the lion so much. He took the end of the thorn between his fingers; then he gave a strong, quick pull, and out it came. The lion was full of joy. He jumped about like a dog, and licked the hands and feet of his new friend.
The two became such good friends that Androclus found his new life a very happy one. One day some soldiers found Androclus in the cave and took him back to Rome. It was the law at that time that every slave who ran away from his master should fight a hungry lion. For each of these occasions, a fierce lion was locked up for a while without food, and a time was set for the fight.

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·芜湖一中·期末)
My Best Teaching Experience
Tyler was only in my senior class for a semester. He had been suspended (使停学) many times in previous years because of his anger issues. When he entered my class, I thought the worst.
Tyler sat in the back row. Every time I talked to the class, I would ask students questions, calling them by name. Unfortunately, every time I called on Tyler, he would respond with a joke. If he got an answer wrong, he would become angry.
About a month into the year, I was still trying to connect with Tyler. I can usually get students involved in class discussions or at least have them sit quietly and attentively (专心地). By contrast, Tyler was often loud and sometimes rude.
He had been in so much trouble over the years. He expected his teachers to know about his past; about how many times he had been sent to the office or suspended from school. I had found that these sorts of referrals (移交) were not very effective and that students would return from the office behaving worse than before.
One day, Tyler was talking over me while I was teaching. I stopped my lesson and said, “Tyler, why don’t you join in our discussion instead of having one of your own?” With that, he got up from his chair, pushed it over and yelled something. I can’t remember what he said other than that he included some impolite words. I sent Tyler straight to the office, and he received a week’s suspension.
To this point, this was one of my worst teaching experiences. Tyler’s anger was almost too much for me. The week Tyler was suspended from school was a wonderful time, and we got a lot accomplished as a class. However, the suspension week would soon come to an end, and I was fearful of his return.

Passage 2
(24-25高二下·安徽蚌埠·期末)
In Benton School, the chatter of students filled Room 13 every day. Among the lively atmosphere, Wanda Petronski, a poor Polish girl, with her unruly hair and a faded blue dress that showed signs of frequent wear, became the target of cruel jokes among her classmates.
Each morning, as Wanda stepped into the classroom, a sudden silence would fall over the room. The abrupt silence was soon replaced by whispers and laughter. “Look, there’s Wanda,” Peggy would whisper to her friend Maggie, her eyes shining with mischief. Peggy, the most popular girl in class, was well-known for her sharp tongue and a good sense of fashion. Driven by a mix of boredom and meanness (恶意), she would call out, “How many dresses do you have now, Wanda?” Her voice was filled with pretended curiosity.
Wanda would hesitate, her fingers nervously twisting her dress. “A hundred,” she would reply in a soft murmur; her voice was barely heard. Instantly, the classroom would erupt in laughter. “A hundred!” Peggy would shout, her laughter echoing through the room. “I bet they’re all made of paper!” The other students would join in, their cruel laughter filling the air. Wanda’s face would redden with awkward, and she would quickly lower her head, unable to meet anyone’s eyes.
Miss Mason, their teacher, often tried to intervene. “That’s enough, class. Let’s start the lesson,” she would say firmly, attempting to restore order. But the damage had been done. Day after day, Peggy and her group of friends continued to make fun of Wanda, asking about her “hundred dresses” and making ill remarks about her plain clothes.
One day, Miss Mason announced an exciting drawing contest. The theme was “Design a Dress,” and the winning entries would be displayed in the school hall. Peggy, confident in her artistic abilities, was determined to claim victory.

Passage 3
(24-25高二下·安徽马鞍山·期末)
On my first day in senior high school, my heart was racing and my legs were shaking. I was excited and nervous at the same time. Though I was happy to have the opportunity to see my friends after a long summer break, I could not help but think about what classes I was going to attend.
As I reached the classroom doors, my heart raced faster and I had butterflies in my stomach. Seeing the letters reading “Welcome Freshmen” on the door, I took a deep breath as though I was going to perform in front of people. I opened the door, thinking that the class would be quiet, but it was filled with freshmen who were chatting with each other. I sat at the first empty desk I saw. The teacher was not there, so I began to chat with others, too.
Minutes later, our teacher entered. She was short in height and had black, silky hair. The frown (皱眉) on her face gave me an impression that she had a strong character but after her short introduction, I believed she was a very nice woman. Her name was Mrs. Hutchinson. She handed the class our first task: to write about what you would want to be or what your dream job would be ten years from now.

Passage 4
(23-24高二下·安徽安庆·期末)
I grew up knowing I was different, and I hated it.
I was born with a cleft palate (腭裂), and when I started to go to school, my classmates, who were constantly teasing me, made it clear to me how I looked to others: a little girl with a misshapen lip. I couldn't even blow up a balloon without holding my nose.
When schoolmates asked, “What happened to your lip? ”, I would tell them that I'd fallen as a baby and cut it on a piece of glass. Somehow it seemed more acceptable to have suffered an accident than to have been born different. By the age of seven I was convinced that no one outside my own family could ever like me.
And then I entered the second grade, and Mrs. Leonard's class. She was pretty and fragrant, with shining brown hair and warm, dark eyes that smiled even on the rare occasions when her mouth didn't.
Everyone adored her. But no one came to love her more than I did for a special reason.
The time came for the annual hearing tests” iven at our school. I was barely able to hear anything out of one ear, and was not about to reveal yet another problem that would single me out as different. So I cheated. I had learned to watch the other children and raise my hand when they did during group testing. The whisper test”, however, required a different trick. Each child would go to the door of the classroom and close one ear with a finger. Then the teacher would whisper something which the child would repeat. The same thing was done for the other ear. I had discovered that nobody checked to see how tightly the untested ear was being covered, so I merely pretended to block mine.
As usual, I was the last, and all through the testing I wondered what Mrs. Leonard might say to me.
My turn came. I turned my bad ear to her, plugging up the other with my finger, and then gently backed my finger out enough to be able to hear. I waited, and then came the words that changed my life forever.

I calmly explained to Joe that it was an easy fix. I turned off the filter with a few taps, and his pictures returned to normal. Joe blinked, his anger slowly fading into embarrassment. “Oh... I didn’t realize it was that simple,” he mumbled, with the tension leaving his body. I smiled, reassuring him that it happens to everyone. Joe let out a nervous laugh. “I guess I panicked for nothing.” I handed him his phone back, and for the first time since he arrived, Joe looked relaxed.
As he prepared to leave, Joe paused, and then turned back. “Thank you,” he said. His voice was soft. “I’ve been going through a lot lately, and your help with repairing my phone really comforted me. You’ve been really kind.” His words hit me. Sometimes, it’s not just about fixing a phone — it’s about easing someone’s day. Joe walked out, looking less burdened, and I felt a sense of warmth knowing I had made a difference, however small. It reminded me why I loved my job.

Her cruel words cut me deeply. Never before in my life had I been so overwhelmed with such grievance and helplessness that I stood there motionless. All my classmates were shaking their heads at me, totally convinced of the teacher’s claims. Driven by a strong inner voice of protesting my innocence, I made the last attempt, declaring firmly, “I am not the thief!” Unsurprisingly, it didn’t work. Feeling dizzy on the spot, I grabbed my bag, dashed out of the classroom and headed home with tears in my eyes. The entire week was spent in a state of confusion-I kept to myself a lot, choosing not to talk to anyone.
A week later, when taking Miss Soh’s class, Tommy suddenly found the neatly folded RM400 slip out of his notebook. Seeing the money, he froze in puzzlement. He picked it up immediately, lost in thought. After a while, Tommy put up his hand, signaling to say something urgent. Miss Soh stepped off the platform and came up to Tommy. “What’s the matter, Tommy?” she asked with concern. “Miss Soh, here is my RM400,” he murmured. On hearing that, all my classmates were shocked, exploding into whispers. I, who was wronged by the teacher, sat still in the chair, anticipating something. Then both Miss Soh and Tommy approached me to say “SORRY” to me. It was their sincere apology and Miss Soh’s tender embrace that erased the shadow enveloping me all those days.

Seeing my condition, my family advised me to make the most of the time that was left before they moved. In their last ten days here, when they had quit school, we made a list of things we always planned on doing and, one by one, we did those things. We watched a movie, went out for lunch, baked a cake, and went for a picnic to a water park. We created more memories that would last a lifetime and we could look back on fondly. It was challenging to come to terms with the situation I was in, but my parents helped me realize that one way to help cope with emotions is to create memories.
Saying goodbye wasn’t easy, but it set my heart at ease to realize that we could still be the closest friends. Our parents kept us connected through online meetings once every week. They also encouraged sharing photos of activities we did on the weekends. In addition, my parents promised to take me to Sydney, Australia where my best friends are living this summer vacation. We will tour the Opera House, the Darling Harbor and so on together. All these efforts of my parents helped me regain my joyful self, and made me realize that the feeling of losing my friends was only in my mind, in reality, they will always be my closest friends, which can be tested by the distance.

At first, Kayla felt sad at her parents’ plan for the holiday. She dragged her feet as she grabbed a broom, grumbling under her breath about “wasting the extra day.” Wiping the dusty windows made her arms ache, and sweeping the wet leaves in the yard left her shoes muddy — none of this felt like a holiday at all. She kept checking the clock, counting down the minutes until she could sneak back to her room.
But things began to change as she was doing the housework. When she finished scrubbing the kitchen counter, her mum smiled and pointed out how bright the room looked; when she helped her dad fix the wobbly fence, he high-fived her and said the yard felt “brand new.” By evening, Kayla sat on the clean porch, sipping lemonade with her parents, and realized the tiredness faded into a warm pride — this kind of fun, from working and making the home nicer, felt more special than any video game or basketball game.

Therefore, he can finally complete the report! “But,” Truman said, “I have to build a model beehive with these tubes. Can you help me?” “Well,” Bryan said hesitantly, with tears on his face. “You can help me glue them,” Truman offered.
Bryan smiled and began picking out his tubes. Truman opened the drawer near the TV, grabbed a bottle of glue, and showed his brother how to stick the paper tubes. Working together, they made a model beehive. As they compared their creation to the real beehive in the garage, they agreed it was flawless. When the day came, thousands of people crowded in to see the fight. The door opened, and poor Androclus was brought in. He was almost dead with fear and saw that there was no pity in the thousands of faces staring at him. Then the hungry lion rushed in. Oh, it was his old friend, the lion from the cave. People saw Androclus put his arms around the lion’s neck and the lion lay down at his feet, licking them lovingly.
The people, who had expected to see the man killed by the lion, were filled with wonder. Androclus stood up before them and told how he and the beast had lived together in the cave. “I am a man,” he said, “but no man has ever befriended me. This poor lion only has been kind to me; and we love each other as brothers.” The people were not so bad that they could be cruel to the poor slave now. “Live and be free!” they cried, “Give both of them their liberty!” And so Androclus was set free, and the lion was given to him. Passage 1:
【答案】
On the day of Tyler’s return, I stood at the door awaiting him. At last he came, walking with his hands in his pockets. That image immediately brought back memories of the boy throwing a tantrum in class the other day. Yet I managed to restrain my anger this time. These past few days, I had been building a wall between us with blame and punishment, so I thought to myself that maybe I should try another way. “I want to apologize for the quarrel that we had in the middle of class, and I’m really sorry if it hurt your feelings,” I said, finally breaking the ice.
A spark of surprise flashed across his face. The naughty boy froze there, staring at me with wide eyes. It was clear that he had never heard an apology from a teacher before. “It is I who should say sorry,” he murmured, his face burning with shame, “I should have learned to control myself.” With a smile, I stepped forward and patted him on his shoulder, signaling to him to go back to his seat. In the days that followed, Tyler didn’t misbehave in class anymore and took an active part in class discussions. I had never expected “understanding” could make such a huge difference — it turned one of my worst teaching experiences into perhaps the best one.

Each drawing was a masterpiece, featuring elaborate patterns and vivid colors that far exceeded the simple sketches of the other students. Peggy and the class stared in disbelief at the beautiful display of Wanda’s talent. But Wanda wasn’t there to see her triumph. She had been absent for days, likely due to classmates’ constant bad behavior. The classroom was filled with an awkward silence as the students realized how wrong they had been to laugh at her.
Feeling a strong sense of guilt, Peggy and Maggie went to Wanda’s house with the good news. When they arrived, Wanda seemed surprised to see them. Peggy, her voice filled with regret, said, “Wanda, your drawings won! They’re amazing. We’re so sorry for being mean.” Maggie nodded in agreement. Wanda smiled gently and said, “It’s okay.” She then offered to give Peggy and Maggie some of her drawings. “I want you to have them,” she said. Her kindness touched their hearts. From that day on, Peggy and Maggie learned the importance of kindness and never judged others by their appearance again. Whenever anyone walked through the school hall and saw Wanda’s beautiful drawings, they were reminded of the power of forgiveness and the impact that a single act of kindness could have.

【答案】

【答案】One possible version:
She checked it, surprised to find there was a new vacuum bottle for kids in it. Seeing it, Bill took the vacuum bottle from Nancy and jumped up and down with joy. With her heart beating fast, Nancy wondered whether they should give it back. However, thinking how worried the owner must have been, she bent down and looked at Bill, saying, “No, Bill. We should give it back.” Hearing it, Bill cried, but Nancy didn’t change her mind. Then, after some explanation, little Bill seemed to understand and finally nodded, supporting her idea.
Based on the in formation on the business card, Nancy made up her mind to call the owner. The phone was answered by a woman after a few rings and Nancy explained the matter to her. The owner expressed her gratitude and said she would go to pick up the bag instantly. Before long, the owner arrived and Nancy handed the bag to her. She was so thankful that she insisted on giving Nancy some money. The woman also offered to give the new vacuum bottle to Bill when she saw Bill was quite fond of it. However, Nancy declined politely. In her opinion, doing a good thing doesn’t mean trying to get a reward. It shows good human nature.

It turned out that they came to help John and Keith go through the freezing night. One of the children carried a stove, another carried a large bundle of firewood, and the third took some bedclothes with him. It was a great surprise for both John and Keith. The children lit the wood in the stove and the room became warm at once. The two men hurriedly made the bed. Now they could enjoy a warm and comfortable night. They were even more touched when the lady brought them a hot meal to eat a moment later.
Waking up the next day, John and Keith found their door blocked by heavy snow. They tried their best to force the door open, only to find that thick snow had covered everywhere in the yard, including the roof of the house where the family lived, and it seemed that it was in a bad situation. Seeing that, John and Keith took some tools to clear the snow with that family. After about an hour, they cleared all the snow. The lady thanked them, saying that they had done a great favor for her and that without their help, the house might not stand the snow. They just smiled, saying “You help yourself.”

【答案】One possible version

【答案】Just at the moment, my mother entered the kitchen, following a well-dressed lady. My mother excitedly discussed today’s special food with the lady. She was about to show her the dough and the blackberries in the bowl, at this point, they noticed that all the blackberries in the bowl were gone, which shocked my mother. The lady asked angrily whether she had eaten the blackberry, with my mother lowering her head in silence. The lady said you are always doing a good job. But you let me down today. Then the lady left.
After the lady left, I crept(爬) out of the cupboard with tears streaming down my face. I said to my mother, “I’m sorry, mom, I stole the blackberry. You made the blackberry so delicious that I couldn’t stop eating them. After listening to what the lady said, I know that you have been working hard for our family. It was my fault, and I’m willing to apologize and explain everything to the lady.” Then we went together.

【答案】 However, Geetu couldn’t bear to disappoint her mother. She decided to balance her schoolwork and dance practice. Every night after finishing her assignments, she would join her mother for a short practice session. Gita noticed Geetu’s tiredness but also her determination. She encouraged Geetu, telling her that it didn’t matter whether they won or not, as long as they enjoyed the process. With her mother’s support, Geetu gradually overcame her anxiety and focused more on the dance. On the competition day, the competition was very intense, but Geetu and her mother did their best to finish it.
It was time to announce the result of the competition. The host stepped onto the stage, holding an envelope. Geetu held her mother’s hand tightly, her heart pounding. When the host declared them the winners, both of them were in disbelief. They rushed onto the stage, hugging and crying with joy. The audience erupted into thunderous applause. This victory was not just about the prize; it was a testament to their love and the hard - work they had put in together. Geetu realized that facing challenges with her mother by her side was the most precious thing.

【答案】范文

Tanaria’s happiness knew no bounds and she shouted a “YES” and accepted his proposal.
The wedding day had come. When the ceremony began, Tanaria was asked to sing a song on this precious day. She sang a song which only royals knew.

【答案】Time seemed to go very fast. Eight years passed by in a flash. The students coincidentally recalled the agreement with Mr. Brown to meet again in eight years. That morning, the students arrived at school very early, and Mr. Brown warmly embraced every student. Although many years passed, Mr. Brown was still as humorous and warm as before. The unforgettable warmth of their student days surged in their hearts, and the hearty laughter of the past echoed in their ears from time to time. It was Mr. Brown who made their school life full of charm and the campus a source of beautiful memories for them. It was Mr. Brown who integrated many stories, humor, warmth, and teacher-student relationships into their classroom.
Then, they saw something familiar outside their former classroom. A shelter for kittens! Yes, it was with Mr. Brown’s permission that Julie and her classmates built a shelter for Campus in a corner of the campus. Campus connected them all together. Mr. Brown’s magical skills in handling the smallest things left a deep impression on them, and always reminded them that life was full of unpredictable twists and unexpected potential, inspiring them to positively explore new perspectives.

【答案】One possible version

【答案】One possible version:
Thinking about this, Truman rushed into the living room, his heart pounding. He threw his arms around his brother, his voice trembling with sincerity, “Bryan, I’m deeply sorry that I lost my temper. I never intended to hurt you. And from the bottom of my heart, I thank you.” He continued to tell his brother that these tubes had given him ideas, helping him find his perspective.
With his newfound focus, Truman completed his report well ahead of time, introducing a fresh perspective that fascinated his classmates. Mrs. Lawrence awarded him an A+ and praised his efforts in front of the entire class, leaving Truman feeling proud.

【答案】
They lived together in Rome for many years.

【答案】 A few days later, Miss Mason announced the result and everyone was shocked. Wanda won the first prize, for she had submitted 100 exquisite, uniquely detailed fashion design drawings.

【答案】I had no idea because I had never thought about what I wanted to do in the future. A mix of confusion and curiosity flooded over me. I looked around, and everyone else seemed to be writing with purpose and determination, except for me. Mrs. Hutchinson noticed my expression and came over to me with a warm smile, “Dream big, and chase what makes you happy.” Taking a deep breath, I decided to write about my dream of becoming a teacher. In the following years, Mrs. Hutchinson was always there, providing guidance and advice whenever I needed it.
With Mrs. Hutchinson’s encouragement, three years later, I went to college and followed the dream I had. At the start of my senior high school, I thought thinking about my future was the most challenging experience. However, it turned out that what I wrote that day set the course for my future. Now, as I stepped onto the college campus, I felt a sense of excitement and purpose. I was ready to embark on the next chapter of my journey, one that would lead me to become the teacher I had always dreamed of being.

【答案】Mrs. Leonard, the pretty, fragrant teacher I adored, said softly, “I wish you were my little girl. ”I was completely astonished by what I heard. Tears welled up in my eyes and trickled down my cheeks. I couldn’t believe that someone as wonderful as Mrs. Leonard would actually say that to me. She didn’t treat me as if I were different, and with her words, she made me forget who I was. In that moment, all my insecurities and fears disappeared, replaced by a feeling of being truly loved and accepted.
From that day on, I had a newfound confidence. I walked tall and proud, with my head held high. I no longer felt like an outcast because of my cleft palate. Mrs. Leonard’s kind words had a profound impact on me, and I made a promise to myself to never let anyone’s judgment hold me back again. I started to embrace my differences and realized that they made me unique. And I will always be grateful to Mrs. Leonard for giving me the strength to do so.

The science teacher, Mr. Moose, decided that the school would have a paper airplane contest. Each student would design a paper airplane. And then they would take turns throwing their airplanes. The student whose airplane flew the farthest would win.
When Mr. Moose announced the paper airplane contest, all the students were very excited. Paul, who was on the wrestling team, said to other students: “I am the strongest. And I will be able to throw my airplane the farthest.”
However, another student, Brian, was thinking how he could win. He did not play any sports and was not very strong. But he loved airplanes and really wanted to win the contest.
Brian knew what he had to do. He went to the store and bought a big stack of paper. When he got home, he took the paper into the backyard. He took a piece of paper and folded an airplane. It didn't go very far, so Brian took another sheet and folded another airplane and threw it. This airplane went a little farther. Brian kept folding different kinds of airplanes and throwing them.
