Ever since I was a little child, I have always liked learning words and expressions in other languages. When I was nine, I started studying English at school, and I loved it. I learned a lot about English words and grammar, and when I turned sixteen, I attended a program in Canada. I stayed with a Canadian family for a whole year, and it was one of the best times of my life. Since it is also an official (官方的) language in Canada, I started studying French during my stay. I studied hard, and it paid off. French is a beautiful language.
After I returned to Brazil, I started studying Spanish. I think it is important for Brazilians to learn this language because, here in South America, most countries’ official language is Spanish. I now love learning this language, and thanks to that, I now have friends from Uruguay, Peru, and Argentina. Keeping in touch with these friends is a great way to practice the language.
I am also learning Chinese and German. These languages are a bit more difficult for me, but being able to say even a few expressions of these languages is rewarding.
Some people ask me why I spend so much time learning foreign languages. I always say there are many benefits. For example, learning a foreign language improves your memory, introduces you to all kinds of information, helps you communicate with people from different places and cultures and to make wonderful friends, provides you with insight into another way of thinking, makes you a more interesting person, and improves your chances of finding a good job.
So, if you haven’t started studying a foreign language yet, my advice is: don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today!

The Yangtze Finless Porpoise (江豚) is a kind of cute animal living in the Yangtze River. It was named water pig and greedy fish in “Bencao Gangmu” by Li Shizhen. Now people call it smiling angel. But years ago, it was in great danger.
Mr. Li is a 52-year-old man from Jingzhou, Hubei. He used to make a living by fishing in the Yangtze. At that time, he found the water was getting dirtier and the finless porpoises appeared fewer and fewer. His heart was filled with sadness.
In 2020, China started the 10-year fishing ban (禁令) on the Yangtze. Mr. Li gave up fishing at once and became a protector of the Yangtze finless porpoise. Ever since I was a little child, I have always liked learning words and expressions in other languages. When I was nine, I started studying English at school, and I loved it. I learned a lot about English words and grammar, and when I turned sixteen, I attended a program in Canada. I stayed with a Canadian family for a whole year, and it was one of the best times of my life. Since it is also an official (官方的) language in Canada, I started studying French during my stay. I studied hard, and it paid off. French is a beautiful language.
After I returned to Brazil, I started studying Spanish. I think it is important for Brazilians to learn this language because, here in South America, most countries’ official language is Spanish. Some people ask me why I spend so much time learning foreign languages. I always say there are many benefits. The Yangtze Finless Porpoise (江豚) is a kind of cute animal living in the Yangtze River. It was named water pig and greedy fish in “Bencao Gangmu” by Li Shizhen. Now people call it smiling angel. But years ago, it was in great danger.
