My best friend, Jim, found I was upset. He said to me, “Don’t be afraid. It’s not about winning or losing. It’s about trying your best. Even if you run slowly, you are still a winner if you finish the race.” His words encouraged me. I decided to take part in the competition.
On the day of the competition, I was very nervous. When the competition began, all the runners started to run. I ran as fast as I could, but soon I fell behind. I wanted to stop, but I remembered Jim’s words. I kept running, even though my legs were tired. Finally, I crossed the finish line. Although I didn’t win, all my classmates cheered for me. My PE teacher patted (拍) my shoulder and said, “You did a great job!”

When my friend first suggested that we join the new Tai Chi Club at school, I said without thinking twice, “No. Tai Chi is for grandparents.” But after the first few classes, I learned how wrong I was—it was amazing!
The first few Tai Chi classes were fun and easy, and the moves really caught my imagination (想象), with creative names like “White Crane Spreading Its Wings” and “Golden Rooster Standing On One Leg”. When I asked my coach where these interesting names came from, he told me the history of Tai Chi. Zhang Sanfeng, a 13th-century Taoist (道家), first got the idea of Tai Chi moves after watching a fight between a bird and a snake. About four hundred years later, Chen Wangting developed Tai Chi according to kungfu moves. Some of these kungfu moves copied animal actions (动作). That’s why some Tai Chi moves are named after animals.
However, after a few weeks, I grew bored and ached from making the same moves again and again. Luckily, my coach was kind. He taught me how to relax my muscles (肌肉) and pay attention to the peace of mind. Slowly, I improved and even learned harder moves. My coach said Tai Chi balanced (平衡) yin and yang through slow, opposite actions: up and down, left and right, forward and backward. This brought both balance in the body and calmness in mind. My love for Tai Chi grew stronger than ever.
Thanks to a year of practice, great changes have taken place in myself. I sleep better and feel more active, even though I am busy with study. Tai Chi has made me happier and more confident when I face problems. I’ll certainly keep practising—it’s a lifelong gift!
61.Why did the writer say no to the Tai Chi Club at first?

C.Because playing Tai Chi was too hard for him.
D.Because playing Tai Chi was too slow and soft.
62.What has the writer learned in the Tai Chi Club?
A.Tai Chi is famous because of its interesting names.
B.Zhang Sanfeng developed fun and easy Tai Chi moves.
C.The balance of yin and yang relaxes the body and the mind.

Last Wednesday afternoon, a terrible rainstorm hit my hometown.
Dark clouds gathered quickly, the wind blew hard, and the rain poured down heavily. Some trees fell down and a few houses were damaged. The streets were covered with water. It was really dangerous outside. When the rainstorm came, I stayed indoors safely. I kept away from windows and didn’t use electrical appliances.
