In China, a group of people help old people by using a red card, known as the Pat (轻拍) Card. The card, stuck to their backpacks, carries the message, “If you need help, just pat me.” Behind the idea is Zhao Chen.
Zhao’s story began in 2014. “When my daughter was born, my mother came to Xi’an to help but got lost. A student helped her find the way to the hospital,” Zhao said. “I was moved by the kind act and decided to do something similar to help old strangers.” Zhao even created the Pat Card to help old people.
Zhao kept his acts of kindness private until early 2024. In September 2024, Zhao saw an old man moving slowly through a subway station in Xi’an. Zhao guided him out of the station, called a taxi, and sent him home. Along the way, some strangers joined in, a food seller offered the man a cheap meal, and the driver gave them a free ride. This made Zhao realize the power of working together. Then he created an open call for mutual (相互的) help, and many volunteers came together to help old people.

We have many ways to get close to nature, such as dancing in the rain, stepping on fallen leaves or digging in the soil, but my favourite is walking barefoot (赤脚).
Walking barefoot can be enjoyable and helpful. It can help us get a good sleep and feel relaxed both in mind and body. It can also build our foot muscles (肌肉) and improve our balance. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, walking barefoot can be good for our health.
When you want to try walking barefoot, there’s no need to hurry. At first, walking barefoot for 10 minutes can be fine. After that, add 5 minutes every day until you can walk for 20 to 30 minutes. If your feet hurt, take a break or reduce the time.
Walking barefoot, however, isn’t always safe. People with health problems like flat feet or back pain should avoid this practice. What’s more, walking barefoot in cold or wet environments might cause health problems. To make walking barefoot safe, remember the following points:

In China, a group of people help old people by using a red card, known as the Pat (轻拍) Card. The card, stuck to their backpacks, carries the message, “If you need help, just pat me.” Behind the idea is Zhao Chen.
Zhao’s story began in 2014. “When my daughter was born, my mother came to Xi’an to help but got lost. A student helped her find the way to the hospital,” Zhao said. “I was moved by the kind act and decided to do something similar to help old strangers.” Zhao even created the Pat Card to help old people.
Zhao kept his acts of kindness private until early 2024. In September 2024, Zhao saw an old man moving slowly through a subway station in Xi’an. Zhao guided him out of the station, called a taxi, and sent him home. Along the way, some strangers joined in, a food seller offered the man a cheap meal, and the driver gave them a free ride. This made Zhao realize the power of working together. Then he created an open call for mutual (相互的) help, and many volunteers came together to help old people.

We have many ways to get close to nature, such as dancing in the rain, stepping on fallen leaves or digging in the soil, but my favourite is walking barefoot (赤脚).
Walking barefoot can be enjoyable and helpful. It can help us get a good sleep and feel relaxed both in mind and body. It can also build our foot muscles (肌肉) and improve our balance. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, walking barefoot can be good for our health.

What if, whenever we face any challenge, we stopped and asked, “What if?” What if we questioned the rules and started thinking outside the box?
Thinking outside the box is a metaphor (隐喻) to describe creative and different thinking. It can be seen in simple things, such as using paper to make crafts (工艺品) instead of only writing on it.
According to Fast Company, the term appeared in the 1970s. Management experts gave customers a 9-dot puzzle and asked them to connect all the dots with only four lines. This task needs creative thinking, so the experts told their customers to “think outside the box”. To find a creative way, they had to look past the box.
From this game, we learn something important. At first, we see a box. We must try all ways inside the box first. Then we find that the box itself is the problem. Thinking outside the box means understanding the present situation fully and then challenging it.
Thinking outside the box helps us solve difficult problems. It lets us look further than a restricted view and find new answers. It also helps us widen our views and notice more chances. Different experiences, open thinking and the courage to take risks help us grow. Thinking small keeps us small. If we stay in our comfort area, risks and challenges will seem scary.
