The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly changed people’s dailylives. Many parents work from home while children study online, so family meal time has been seriously disrupted. Frequent snacking is becoming more common, making it especially important to rebuild regular family dining habits.
Research has shown clear links between frequent family meals and better health. A study of more than 203,000 people across 57 researches found that eating together as a family is closely connected with higher diet quality, more fruit and vegetable intake, and healthier body weight. The positive effects remain strong regardless of children’s age, family background or which meal they share.
Even if family members are not very close or have difficulty communicating, frequent family dinners still help teens and young adults make healthier food choices. They eat more vegetables and fewer fast foods or sweet drinks, according to a report published in JAMA Network Open.
Shared family meals also provide long-term physical and mental benefits. They lower the risk of childhood obesity and can reduce the chances of developing diabetes, heart disease and other illnesses in adulthood. Mentally, young people who eat often with their families usually have higher self-esteem and stronger academic performance. They are less likely to suffer from depression, bad behavior or eating disorders. Parents also feel less stressed and enjoy better family relationships.
In addition, cooking and eating at home improves economic well-being. Home-made meals usually cost less and have better nutrition than food eaten out. Experts advise that schools, communities and dietitians should encourage family meals through simple recipes and online or offline classes to help people form healthy lifestyles for life.

Over the past decade, China's Yangtze River protection campaign has brought remarkable progress in water quality, shoreline restoration and biodiversity recovery.
In 2025, almost all monitored water sections of the Yangtze main stream and branches reached fine quality standards. The river basin has witnessed great changes. Thousands of polluting factories have been handled properly, miles of shoreline have been repaired, and vast riverbank green plants have been regrown. A large number of illegal docks and unqualified sewage outlets have also been improved.
The living conditions of rare aquatic creatures have obviously turned better. The number of Yangtze finless porpoises once dropped sharply due to human activities. To save the endangered species, researchers raise and train porpoises in labs before sending them back to nature, helping them get used to wild living environment.
The ten-year fishing ban plays a vital role in ecosystem recovery. Some rare fish species that disappeared for years have been seen again. Scientists also carry out artificial breeding to increase wild creature populations and keep the river ecosystem balanced.
Located at the river mouth, Chongming Island has carried out ecological restoration work since 2016, aiming to become a world-famous eco-island. A newly-built marine ranch offers safe living space for young Chinese sturgeons. Monitoring data shows many sturgeons choose to stay and find food around this area.
Besides, Dongtan wetland on Chongming Island acts as a perfect home for migrating birds. The restored wetland covers a wide area and shelters over 300 kinds of birds, including many nationally protected species.
All these efforts show that the Yangtze River has achieved great ecological improvement over ten years.
12.What achievement has the Yangtze River protection campaign made?
A. Industrial production has increased rapidly.
B. The ecological environment has improved greatly.
C. Transportation has been greatly developed.
D. Tourism industry has been hugely influenced.
13.Why did the number of Yangtze finless porpoises drop sharply before?
A. Because of lack of artificial feeding.
B. Because of extreme weather changes.
C. Because of human activities.
D. Because of natural competition among species.
14.What can we infer about the marine ranch?
A. It helps protect young Chinese sturgeons.
B. It can control the water flow of the river.
C. It is designed for visitors to watch fish.
D. It collects data on endangered bird species.
15.What could be the best title for the text?

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. A 17-year-old badminton player lost his life in a tournament mainly because first aid was not provided properly on site. 16 So it is crucial to learn basic first-aid skills.
CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AEDs (automated external defibrillators) are the most powerful tools. 17 It can keep oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and other vital organs before an ambulance arrives. It mainly includes chest compressions and rescue breathing.
An AED is even more life-saving. Different from hospital defibrillators, it is designed for ordinary people. 18 The machine will decide whether a shock is needed. All you need to do is to follow the clear instructions.
Time is life in a sudden cardiac arrest. 19 The success rate drops by 10% every minute. If we can provide CPR and use an AED within the “golden four minutes”, 50% to 70% of patients can be saved.
However, the public use of AEDs remains low in China. 20 Medical experts suggest that more people should receive first-aid training, and public places should provide easier access to AEDs.
A. It is easy and safe to use.
B. CPR is the first step of first aid.
C. This small accident shocked the whole country.
D. This tragedy shows the importance of timely first aid.
