What should you do if there’s an earthquake at school? How can you protect yourself when you are caught in a stampede (踩踏)? March 25 every year provides you with a good chance to learn about safety.
This day is called the National Day of Education on the Safety of Elementary and Middle School Students (NDESEMSS) It aims to provide students with more safety knowledge.
A survey showed that school accidents kill more elementary and middle school students than anything else. The accidents usually come from stampedes, earthquakes, fires and sports injuries.
What can we do to keep ourselves safe? I think staying calm is the most important when facing accidents. But different accidents have different self-protection advice.
A stampede is possible anywhere. When students around you begin to push, stand still and try to hold onto something, or stay in a corner until the crowd leaves. If you fall down in a moving crowd, cover your head with both hands. Move to one side, and bend your body and legs.
Earthquakes are common natural disasters. When you feel the ground shake, drop down, take cover under a desk and hold on. You should stay indoors until the shaking stops. If you are outdoors, don’t stay near buildings, trees or power lines.
In case of fire, follow the teachers’ instructions, leave the classroom quickly. Cover your mouth and nose with a piece of wet cloth and crawl (匍匐) low under the smoke to breathe fresh air.
Safety is everything. Let’s take it seriously and grow up healthily and safely.

Being an astronaut sounds cool, as they can float in zero gravity (重力) and do amazing things in space. However, the weightless environment also brings a lot of trouble. Sadly, astronauts cannot even cry properly to show their feelings.
Although astronauts can produce tears, crying is much more difficult in space. Without gravity, tears do not flow down from the eyes as they do on Earth. Instead, they just stick to the eyes. In 2011, astronaut Andrew Feustel had such an experience during a spacewalk. He said his tears just stayed in his eyes and would not fall off.
Tears stuck in the eyes not only make vision unclear but also cause physical pain. On Earth, tears usually comfort the eyes, but in the dry space environment, sudden wetness from tears brings pain instead of comfort. Feustel even said his right eye hurt badly. To solve this problem, astronauts can wipe tears against their helmets. They can also wait until the tears grow big enough to break free and float around.
In fact, many simple daily activities become hard in space. Astronauts cannot talk directly, eat or drink in normal ways. They cannot even burp (打嗝), because there is no gravity to keep food in their stomach. According to the UK National Space Center, burping in space may even lead to vomiting (呕吐).
We often take these small daily things for granted on Earth, but they become big problems in space. After experiencing all these difficulties, only space explorers can truly understand the importance of gravity and sincerely say, “Gravity, you’re the best.”
47.Why is it difficult for astronauts to cry in space?
A.Because they cannot produce tears at all.
B.Because tears don’t drop from their eyes.
C.Because tears flow downward too quickly.
D.Because the space environment stops sadness.
48.How do astronauts possibly deal with the tears?
A.They wait for them to dry out.
B.They use a towel to wipe them off.
C.They rub their eyes against their helmet.
D.They shut and open their eyes to make them fall.
49.Why is burping mentioned in paragraph 4?
A.To explain how astronauts eat and drink in space.
B.To prove that vomiting is common in space travel.
C.To show that astronauts have fun activities in space.
D.To give an example of a difficult daily activity in space.
50.What can we infer from the last paragraph about space explorers?
A.They regret staying in space for too long.
B.They prefer space because of zero gravity.
C.They think life in space is more dangerous.
D.They value gravity more than ordinary people.
51.Where does the passage probably come from?
A.A science magazine. B.A research paper.
C.A science fiction novel. D.A travel guidebook.

Bad things happen to everyone. Some bad things make people feel sad, angry, worried or scared. But you still have to get up and go to work. Luckily, you can do something about it. Here are some ways to make a bad day better.
Accepting that you’re in a bad mood (心情) is not that hard. If you’re angry, be angry. If you are sad, be sad. This does not say that you can be impolite and unfriendly to others. It just means that you need to know and accept your bad mood to be able to do something.
You can try to keep your bad mood a secret and put on your happy mask. But guess what? You’re fooling (愚弄) nobody around you but yourself. The best thing to do is to talk with the people you work closely with about what is happening to you. Just simply tell them, “Listen, I’m in a really bad mood today. I’m not sure why, but it has nothing to do with you. If I get angry with you, I will say sorry in advance (提前).”
Spend a few moments thinking of at least one or two good things. You can think of a nice person at work or something nice.
Take some quiet time. Have a walk during your lunch break. Sit and work somewhere else alone. Take a relaxing, long bathroom break. Think about going home early or taking the day off.Task I: Finish the chart according to the article. Fill in each blank with no more than 3 words.

17.—Would you like to go hiking with us this weekend?
—I’d love to, ________ I have to look after my little sister.
A.and B.so C.but D.or
and和,并且;so所以;but但是;or或者,否则。根据“I’d love to”表示想去,而“I have to look after my little sister”表示有事不能去,前后句意存在转折关系,应用but。
18.—How to build a great team? —________ more and help each other.
A.Communicate B.Communicating C.To communicate D.Communicates
【答案】A
19.—Why is your team so successful?
—________ we pull together and communicate well.
A.Because B.So C.But D.Although
【答案】A
20.—I have a heavy heart for failing the physics test.
—________. You can’t win all the time.
A.You didn’t mean to do it B.Don’t worry C.That’s right D.No problem
根据上文“I have a heavy heart for failing the physics test.” 结合下文“You can’t win all the time.”
21.He is hard-working and ________. I hope he will have more ________ at his business.
A.success; successful B.successful; success
C.successfully; successful D.successful; successful
根据“He is hard-working and...”
22.—Could you please tell me ________?
—Sure. Go along this street and turn left at the second crossing.
A.where is the nearest hospital B.where the nearest hospital is
C.how can I get to the nearest hospital D.how I can get to the nearest hospital
where is the nearest hospital最近的医院在哪里;where the nearest hospital is最近的医院在哪里;how can I get to the nearest hospital我怎么去最近的医院;how I can get to the nearest hospital我怎么去最近的医院。 Go along this street and turn left at the second crossing.”可知,问的是去医院的路线或方式,应用how引导宾语从句,应填how I can get to the nearest hospital。
23.—Is Mr Clark there? I need to talk to him.
—Sorry, he ________ Shanghai on business for three days.
A.went to B.has gone to C.has been in D.has been to
went to去了;has gone to去了未回;has been in待在某地;has been to去过已回。 be in表状态可延续。 应填has been in。

C
【答案】47.B 48.C 49.D 50.D 51.A
