In traditional Chinese culture, the horse is far more than just a useful animal. It stands for loyalty(忠诚), bravery, and so on. Three of the most well-known horses are Chitu(赤兔) , Dilu(的卢) and Wuzhui(乌骓) , each leaving an impressive mark in history.
Chitu is also called “Red Hare,” because it had a red coat and ran very fast like a hare. Legend says Chitu could run “a thousand li” (about 400 km) in one day! What super speed!
At first, Chitu’s owner was Lu Bu, a warlord of the Three Kingdoms period. Guan Yu, another heroic general, was his second owner. After Guan Yu was killed, it refused to eat and died for him.
Dilu was special with a white spot on its forehead. In legends, it saved its owner, Liu Bei, by running fast and jumping across a wide river during a dangerous escape. It bravely faced deadly danger and never left its master alone in the life-or-death situation. Dilu’s story later became an allusion(典故) and was widely used by writers and poets, showing people’s deep praise for the horse’s fearless devotion to its owner.
Wuzhui was a strong and brave horse of Xiang Yu, the “Hegemon-King of Western Chu.” Its body was pure black and smooth like a bolt of silk, while its four hooves were as white as snow. After his owner died at the Wu River, this loyal horse jumped into the same river, following its owner even in death.
16.Who was the first owner of Chitu?
A. Liu Bei B. Guan Yu C. Lu Bu D. Xiang Yu
17. Why is Dilu’s story widely used by writers and poets?
A. Because it ran faster than any horse. B. Because it had a beautiful white spot.
C. Because its owner later became a famous king. D. Because it bravely saved its owner from danger.
18. What common quality do the three horses share in their stories?
A. Loyalty to owners. B. Calm in trouble. C. Super running speed. D. Endless energy.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA心源性猝死) is a serious condition where the heart suddenly stops beating effectively. It is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and knowing what to do can save a life.
What causes SCA? In most cases, it happens due to arrhythmia (心律失常). The heart’s electrical system goes out of control. Instead of beating regularly, the heart muscles start to shake rapidly and irregularly. As a result, the heart can’t send blood to the brain and other body parts. If the heart stops beating, the brain may suffer irreversible damage (不可逆的损伤) in just 4 to 6 minutes. That’s why the first 4 minutes are called the “golden minutes” for saving lives.
What are the warning signs? SCA often comes without warning, but people may feel: chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness (头晕), unusual tiredness, or pain in the stomach, teeth, or left shoulder.
If these signs appear after physical activity, take them seriously.
What should you do if someone falls down? Follow these steps:
1. Call for help. Shout to nearby people and ask someone to call 120.
2. Start chest compressions (心肺按压). Place hands on the center of the chest. Push hard and fast, 5 to 6 centimeters deep, 100 to 120 times per minute. Do not stop until help arrives.
3. Use an AED (自动体外除颤仪) if possible. It is safe and will guide you.
4. Keep going. Continue chest compressions until medical staff take over the situation.
SCA is serious but preventable, especially for teenagers, Follow three key points: exercise regularly, eat healthily, and have regular check-ups. Take good care of your body, stay active, and live a healthy life to keep SCA far away.
However, learning how to prevent sudden cardiac death and use an AED is still of great importance. With popular science spreading widely and more people mastering first-aid skills, we can give more hope to lives. Let us hold love in our hearts and guard every precious life together.
19. Why are the first 4 minutes called the “golden minutes”?
A. Because the heart will start beating again in four minutes.
B. Because people can call 120 most quickly during the time.
C. Because the brain may be in great danger if treatment is late.
D. Because doctors need at least four minutes to help the patient.
20. Which of the following is the correct order to save a person who has SCA?
A. ①②③④ B. ①②④③ C. ②④①③ D. ②④⑨①
21. What does the underlined sentence “we can give more hope to lives” mean?
A. We can help people realize their dreams easily.
B. We can live a happy and comfortable life forever.
C. We can make all dangerous diseases disappear completely.
D. We can bring more chances of survival to people in danger.
22. What is the author’s main purpose of writing this passage?
A. To explain how the human heart works.
B. To teach readers how to do heart operations.
C. To remind readers of SCA dangers and spread first-aid skills.
D. To introduce the latest medical technology for treating heart diseases.
C
When you’re taking an airplane, you’ll notice the soft clouds under the bright blue sky. Do you think the soft clouds are lighter than air? But don’t be fooled —those clouds are much heavier than you think. So how much does a cloud weigh? And how can we weigh a cloud?
Clouds are mainly made of millions of tiny water droplets (小滴), so we can know the weight of a cloud by weighing the water in it. To do that, we need to know the size of the cloud and also the density (密度) of the droplets.
Margaret LeMone, a scientist from the US, has weighed the water in a grey cumulus cloud (积云) in her experiment(实验). First, she has found out that an average cumulus cloud is about 10m3 in size, considering it as a cube (立方体). Besides, the weight of water within 1m3 of a cumulus cloud is about 0.5 gram. In other words, the density of the droplets is around 0.5g/m3. So the cloud weighs about 500
tons, nearly the weight of 100 elephants!
Of course, different types of clouds have different weights. For example, cirrus clouds (卷云) are much lighter, because they have far less water. A dark thunderstorm cloud is a lot heavier, about two million tons of water. This cloud also contains much more water, which is why they can produce so much rain.
But if clouds are so heavy, why do they float? In fact, the wind helps a lot. These droplets are small enough to stay on even the lightest wind. If they get together, they can come down as rain and snow. Each raindrop is only 2mm across. So don’t worry! Those small raindrops spread out the weight enough and 500 tons of water doesn’t fall down on your head all at once.
So, the next time you see a little cloud passing overhead, just remember: 100 elephants.
23. How does the writer introduce the topic?
A. By telling personal stories. B. By listing interesting facts.
C. By asking different questions. D. By giving several examples.
24. What did Margaret LeMone do to weigh a cloud?
A. She compared the cloud to a ball. B. She researched the size of the cloud.
C. She weighed the air inside the cloud. D. She chose a cirrus cloud as an example.
25. What’s the best title for the passage .
A. Beautiful Sky with Colourful Clouds. B. Clouds as Heavy as Elephants High up.
C. Clouds in the Shape of Animals in the Sky. D. Interesting Experiments of Weighing Clouds.
26. In which part of Teenagers magazine can we probably read this passage?
A. Travel. B. Nature. C. Space. D. Entertainment.

was taken away from the wild after a hard fight. He was passed from one cruel owner to another, learning only fear and being hurt. Finally, he came to Scott and Matt’s small cabin. )
“It’s hopeless,” Scott said. He sat outside his cabin and watched White Fang, who was pulling his chain, snarling angrily. “He is a wolf. We can’t tame(驯服) him,” Scott added.
“Someone has tamed him,” replied Matt. “Look at those marks on his chest.” He advised Scott to be patient and give White Fang a chance and set him free. Matt picked up a club (棍棒) and went over to White Fang. He opened the chain round White Fang’s neck. The dog couldn’t believe he was free.

“Look, Scott,” Matt said, “that dog had a terrible time before. You can’t expect him to be normal again at once. Give him some time.”
White Fang watched Scott come over to him, and snarled. He was waiting for his punishment.
But Scott sat down a few meters away and talked to White Fang in a calm, gentle way. He threw meat to the dog many times. Little by little, White Fang became less doubtful.
Scott slowly walked closer and touched White Fang’s head. Instead of hitting him, Scott patted and touched him gently. White Fang felt both fear and warmth. It was the start of a new life for him.

(Lucy, the host of School TV Station, is interviewing Amy about her latest hobby.)
Lucy: Today we’re talking to Amy, a middle school student who loves making Perler bead craft (拼豆手工). Welcome, Amy!
Amy: Thanks for inviting me!
Lucy: I know you’ve made many cute things with Perler beads. ____31____
Amy: I saw a video online where someone made a little dinosaur key ring. It looked so fun and colorful, so I decided to try it myself. Now I’m totally into it!
Lucy: That’s a great start. ____32____
Amy: First, I choose a pattern — like a star or a fruit. Then I put the beads one by one onto a pegboard. After that, I iron them carefully so they melt together. It takes patience, but it’s relaxing.
Lucy: Thanks for explaining it clearly. ____33____
Amy: Not really. Sometimes my fingers get tired if I make a big piece. Also, if you iron too long, the beads can get flat and ugly. But when I see the finished work, I feel proud.
Lucy: That’s what matters. ____34____
Amy: It’s made me a lot more patient. I used to give up quickly when something was hard, but now I can sit and focus for an hour.
Lucy: Sounds good! ____35____
Amy: When I lift the ironing paper and see all those separate beads turn into one solid piece — it feels like magic.
Lucy: Sounds amazing. Thank you for sharing, Amy!
Amy: My pleasure!

On a windy Saturday aftermoon, Grandpa took me to the big field behind our house to fly a kite. I was ten years old and had never flown one before. I held the string tightly while Grandpa held the kite high. “Run against the wind!” he shouted. I ran as fast as my legs could go, but the kite just dragged on the grass. I tried again and again. Each time, it wobbled and fell. My arms ached and my eyes felt hot with sadness. “It’s too hard! I give up!” I cried, letting the string fall.
Grandpa walked over and picked up the kite. He knelt beside me and said softly, “You’re fighting the wind. A kite rises not because the wind is easy, but because it pushes against it. Without the wind, the kite is just a piece of paper. Let the wind be your helper, not your enemy.” He showed me how to let the string out little by little, using the wind’s power. I tried once more. This time, I didn’t pull hard. I let the wind catch the kite, and slowly, it climbed higher and higher into the blue sky. I laughed as the kite danced above me.
That day, I learned something important. Challenges in life are like the wind. When things push against us, we can either give up or rise higher. Grandpa didn’t just teach me how to fly a kite; he taught me how to face a difficulty. From then on, whenever I feel stuck, I remember that kite—and I let the wind lift me up.

A Small Light in Me
Everyone has their own light that makes them special. For me, that small light is never giving up, even when things get hard.
I clearly remember the first time I joined the school’s long-distance running race. Halfway through, my legs felt like stones and my breath was burning. It was then that a quiet voice inside me whispered, “Just one more step” — a whisper which became my greatest support. Gritting my teeth and slowing down my pace, I kept moving forward. Finally, I crossed the finish line, not first but still standing. That day, I didn’t win a medal, but I proved to myself that I could keep going when my body said “no,” which marked the beginning of my inner strength.
This light is important to my growth because it has taught me that failure is not the end—it’s just a bend in the road. Whenever I face difficulties in study or life, I remind myself of that race. That small flame of persistence helps me rise again and again. And slowly, step by step, it makes me stronger.
