②In the first movie, we met the Omaticaya, a group of people living in the forest. In the second movie, The Way of Water, we visited the beautiful oceans. On April 19, 2026, a great event took place in Beijing: the Robot Half Marathon. This year was special because it had human-like robots. Teams from over 100 countries joined the race to see if machines could run faster than humans. At 7:30 a.m., the race started in a warm and happy atmosphere.
There were two kinds of teams: robots controlled from far away and robots that could move by themselves. To keep the competition fair, the makers made different rules to calculate final scores. Because self-running robots needed to “think” and find their own way, they faced greater difficulty. So their points were counted with a 1.2 multiplier, while the robots controlled from far away used a 1.0 times score. This helped excellent robots receive the recognition they deserve.
The most popular robot of the day was called “Lightning”, which was created by Honor. Lightning ran very fast. From the start, it took the lead and maintained it throughout. However, it also encountered some trouble. Near the end, Lightning hit a wall and fell down. Workers soon helped it recover. It stood up again, kept moving, and finally reached the end. The result was surprising: it finished the race in just 50 minutes and 26 seconds. It beat the human half-marathon world record of 57 minutes and 20 seconds!
Last year, robots could only finish easy work. After one year of improvement, robots have become much faster and better. This event showed us that the new age of technology is coming soon.
13. Why did self-running robots get a higher score?
A. They were controlled by remote workers.
B. They faced more difficult tasks in the race.
C. They were faster than remote-controlled robots.
D. They needed less help from the staff.
14. What does the underlined word “maintained” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Kept. B. Lost. C. Changed. D. Shared.
15. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Remote-controlled robots are smarter than self-running ones.
B. Lightning finished the race slower than human runners.
C. The technology of robots has made great progress in a year.
D. The race organizers didn’t care about fairness at all.
16. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. Robot Races: Faster than Humans
B. The Development of Robot Companies
C. How to Make Self-running Robots Smarter
D. A Special Robot Half Marathon in Beijing
【答案】13. B 14. A 15. C 16. D
【解析】
【导语】本文主要介绍了2026年4月19日在北京举行的一场特别的机器人半程马拉松比赛,涵盖了比赛规则、明星机器人“闪电”的表现以及机器人技术的进步。

【14题详解】
根据第三段“From the start, it took the lead and maintained it throughout.”以及后文提到它最终到达终点并打破纪录可知,它一直保持领先地位,因此“maintained”意为“保持”,与kept同义。
【15题详解】
根据最后一段“After one year of improvement, robots have become much faster and better.”

第一段前文提到“They do all kinds of work or offer ways to help improve life.”,后文提到“Others have no qualifications (资历), but they love to work hard to help.”,其中“Others”表明此处需要一个与之对比的“Some”结构。选项B“Some offer their professional skills for free.”中的“Some”与后文“Others”形成“Some...Others...”的固定搭配,说明一部分志愿者提供专业技能,另一部分虽然没有资历但依然努力帮忙,逻辑衔接紧密。

【19题详解】
第三段前文提到“They volunteer because they think it will be very interesting or they will learn something.”,选项A“They also like the idea of being helpful to others.”中的“also”和前文的“because”相呼应,进一步补充青少年做志愿者的另一个原因——喜欢帮助他人的感觉,与后文“As they get older, these reasons are still the same”中的“these reasons”(包括有趣、学东西、帮助他人)完美对应。
【20题详解】

After graduating from Peking University, Fan worked as an archaeologist in Dunhuang, studying and protecting the artworks. One day, comparing old and new photos, she was shocked to find that some caves and artworks had changed or disappeared. Determined to save them, she and her team tried limiting visitors, adding doors to caves, and controlling temperature and humidity. Still, they realized the damage could only be slowed, not stopped.
Refusing to give up, they developed the Digital Dunhuang project, creating digital copies of the paintings. After years of work, the collection went online in 2016, allowing people worldwide to explore the caves from home.
Fan has dedicated her life to preserving this part of China’s cultural heritage. “The longer I’ve stayed here, the deeper my love has grown for Dunhuang,” she says. That is why she is known as “the daughter of Dunhuang”.
