根据文章第二段内容“Yet despite my enthusiasm, learning Chinese hadn’t even entered my mind. This wasn’t ignorance or laziness, but rather fright at the thought of attempting to learn what is regarded as the most difficult language in the world. In my mind, the Chinese language was the privilege of the highly intelligent.”(然而,尽管我对学习汉语充满热情,但我从未想过学习汉语。

根据文章第五段关键句“In spite of my progress, it has still been the challenge that has taken a lot of hard work and commitment.”(尽管我取得了进步,但这仍然是一个挑战,需要大量的努力工作和投入)及下文作者遇到的具体挑战可知,本段描写了作者在学习汉语道路上遇到的一些困难。
根据文章第三段关键句“With these factors in mind and a thirst for a new challenge I determined to begin my language journey.”(考虑到这些因素以及对新挑战的渴望,我决定开始我的语言之旅。)
通读全文,尤其是第一段“The research suggests that the strong bond between humans and the ancestors of today’s dogs began 12,000 years ago.(研究表明,人类和今天狗的祖先之间的紧密联系始于12000年前)”可知,本文主要讲的是人类和狗在12000年前就建立了亲密的关系,因此主旨是D选项“Humans and dogs developed a close bond 12,000 years ago.(人类和狗在12000年前就建立了亲密的关系)”。
根据第三段““People interested in the origins of the Americas want to know if the first humans arrived with dogs. Until we find these animals in old digging sites, we can only guess—it’s hard to confirm. This discovery is very significant.”(“对美洲起源感兴趣的人想知道第一批人类是否带着狗来到这里。在我们在旧的挖掘地点找到这些动物之前,我们只能猜测——很难确认。这一发现意义重大。”)”可知,这一发现为早期人类与狗的互动提供了线索。故选B。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据倒数第三段“In a 2018 archaeological study, the same team found a lower leg bone from an adult dog-like animal at a site in Alaska. Carbon dating showed the animal lived 12,000 years ago, near the end of the Ice Age.(在2018年一项考古研究中,同一研究团队在阿拉斯加的一个遗址发现了一具成年类狗动物的小腿骨。碳同位素测年法显示,该动物生活在12,000年前,接近冰河时代末期)”可知,在2018年的研究中,骨头的年龄是通过碳同位素测年法确定的。故选B。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“A key question remains: “What defines a dog?” said Dr. Ben Potter, a co-author of the study and an archaeologist at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.(一个关键问题仍然存在:“如何定义狗?”该研究的合著者、阿拉斯加大学费尔班克斯分校的考古学家Ben Potter博士说道)”可知,研究小组对最早的人狗关系不确定是因为对“狗”定义的困惑。故选C。
D篇
【导语】这是一篇新闻报道。文章报道了在北京地铁线路上,生物识别技术手掌扫描的应用情况。
【32题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“Once the palm print is registered, a commuter can scan the palm at any automated ticket gate to pass through. The fare is automatically paid after exit. (一旦掌纹被登记,通勤者就可以在任何自动检票口扫描掌纹通过。下车后车票自动支付。)”等内容可知,通勤者通过手掌扫描,下车后自动付款。故选C项。
【33题详解】
词句猜测题。划线词句前文“The biometric method combines the use of palm print and vein mapping, which are different for every individual.(生物识别方法结合了掌纹和静脉测绘的使用,这对每个人来说都是不同的。)”及划线词句后半部分“to protect user information (保护用户信息)”说明,每个人的掌纹都是不同的,应该保护用户信息,从而推知划线词句“Therefore, data masking and secure encoding technologies have been applied to protect user information.(因此,需要采用数据masking和安全加密技术来保护用户信息。)” 故选A项。
根据最后一段“Xin Jianhua, general manager of the public service center at WeChat Pay, said palm scans can be gradually used in offices, schools, gyms and restaurants, as it requires no contact and is therefore safer and more efficient.“Currently, it is very useful for the elderly and those who have physical limitations.” he said. “Use of biometric data allows passengers to take subway trains if they do not have cash or when they forget their subway cards,” he added.(微信支付公共服务中心总经理辛建华表示,掌上扫描可以逐渐应用于办公室、学校、健身房和餐馆,因为它不需要接触,因此更安全、更高效。他说:‘目前,它对老年人和身体有限制的人非常有用。’他补充道:‘如果乘客没有现金或忘记了地铁卡,使用生物识别数据可以乘坐地铁。’)”可知,辛建华认为每个人都可以使用手掌扫描,他不同意“手掌扫描仅限于残疾人使用”。故选C项。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“A subway line that links downtown Beijing with Daxing International Airport in the Chinese capital now allows passengers to enter and exit stations by just scanning the palm of a hand, setting an example of how using biometric data in public transportation can make commuting more convenient.(连接北京市中心和中国首都大兴国际机场的一条地铁线路现在允许乘客只需扫描手掌就可以进出车站,这是在公共交通中使用生物识别数据使通勤更方便的一个例子。)”
And, yes, there’s a lot of bad and wasteful packaging out there.(人们讨厌包装。是的,有很多糟糕和浪费的包装。)”说因为浪费,人们讨厌包装。而空格后的句子“When it comes to protecting and dispensing (分发) food, the right package can greatly reduce waste.(在保护和分配食物时,正确的包装可以大大减少浪费。)” C项“But packaging isn’t always the bad thing.(但包装并不总是坏事)”填入空格处,符合文章行文逻辑。故选C项。
根据空格前的句子“We throw away a fifth of the beef we buy—the equivalent (等量) of 8 million cows each year—often because it goes bad before we cook it. The solution?(我们扔掉了我们购买的五分之一的牛肉——相当于每年800万头牛——通常是因为它们在我们烹饪之前就变质了。解决方案?)”可知,空格处的句子应该提到防止牛肉变质的解决方案。所以E项“Scientists have developed packaging that can keep refrigerated meat fresh for weeks.(科学家们已经开发出一种可以使冷藏肉类保持数周新鲜的包装。)”
根据下文的内容“This dairy waste can be avoided with proper packaging technologies, such as Tetra Pak (利乐包装纸盒), which is commonly used in Europe and Asia to keep milk from spoiling, even without refrigeration. Recycled or not, Tetra Pak is a good environmental bet because it can lengthen the shelf life of milk up to nine months.(使用利乐包等包装技术可以避免这种乳制品浪费。利乐包在欧洲和亚洲通常用于防止牛奶变质,即使没有冷藏。无论回收与否,利乐包都是一个很好的环保选择,因为它可以将牛奶的保质期延长到9个月。)”可知,该部分主要是说利乐包对牛奶的保护作用。所以,A项“Packaging protects milk.(包装保护牛奶。)”填入空格处,可以作为该部分的主题句,符合语境。故填A项。
根据空格后的句子“Once again, the environmental benefit of the food-protection technology outweighs the harmful impact of the packaging itself.(再一次,食品保护技术的环境效益超过了包装本身的有害影响。)” 所以,F项“It can reduce the need for refrigeration and the amount of milk that goes wasted.(它可以减少对冷藏的需求和浪费的牛奶量。)”
空格后的句子“One example of waste-reducing packaging is the concept project shown from designer Drew Stanley. He designed a peanut butter jar made of a soft material which can be turned inside out and scraped clean, avoiding sticky food sticking to your fingers.(设计师德鲁·斯坦利展示的概念项目就是减少废物包装的一个例子。他设计了一种用柔软材料制成的花生酱罐,可以翻转过来刮干净,避免粘稠的食物粘在手指上。)”提到了设计师Drew Stanley设计了一种新的方式来解决罐装食物的浪费,由此可推知,空格处应与罐装食品造成浪费有关。G项“Food left behind in jars and bottles makes up a surprising amount of waste.(留在罐子和瓶子里的食物造成了惊人的浪费)”填入空格处,符合语境。故选G项。

Before arriving in China, I had read various books relating to China, famous Chinese novels as well as non-fiction, and the seeds of my fascination were sown. Therefore, when I arrived I couldn’t have been more excited to be living in this huge historically and culturally rich country. The food, the landmarks, the fantastic cities and everyday life — I was burning to explore.
Yet despite my enthusiasm, learning Chinese hadn’t even entered my mind. This wasn’t ignorance or laziness, but rather fright at the thought of attempting to learn what is regarded as the most difficult language in the world. In my mind, the Chinese language was the privilege of the highly intelligent.
However, after a year in China, I began to feel uncomfortable with how many Chinese people could speak English and yet I couldn’t even speak the most basic Chinese. With these factors in mind and a thirst for a new challenge, I determined to begin my language journey.
In the two years since starting to learn, I have made measurable progress. I found it less difficult than thought. When I speak to native Chinese speakers in Chinese, they almost always understand me. I have also not found it too difficult to remember characters and I am now even able to write over 400 characters. I find studying the language relaxing and rewarding.
In spite of my progress, it has still been the challenge that has taken a lot of hard work and commitment. The thing I find most discouraging is listening since native speakers talk at such a speed I can’t always understand what’s been said, but my weekly online language exchanges help with this. Furthermore, there is a long way to go before I reach my goal of fluency. The key to progress is to be patient and persistent.
My biggest harvest from learning Chinese is that it’s not only reachable but can also be enjoyable. Learning Chinese not only helped me in day-to-day life, but deepened my cultural understanding of such a diverse and interesting country. Now my only regret is that I didn’t start earlier.
24. Which can best describe the author’s original impression about learning Chinese?
A. Boring. B. Pleasant. C. Demanding. D. Discouraging.
25. What has the author found while learning Chinese?
A. Speaking Chinese is the most difficult. B. Many Chinese speak fluent English.
C. It isn’t as tough as he once assumed. D. It is beyond his power to learn characters.
26. What does paragraph 5 mainly tell us?
A. Importance of learning Chinese. B. Barriers of learning a new language.
C. Significant progress the author has made. D. Certain difficulty the author met along the way.
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. A New Opinion in Learning B. My Journey of Learning Chinese
C. Exploring the Joy of Learning Chinese D. The Value of Learning a New Language
C
Dogs have been close four-legged friends of humans for as long as we can remember, but exactly how long has this relationship lasted? Scientists may finally have an answer, thanks to a new study on ancient human remains found in Alaska. The research suggests that the strong bond between humans and the ancestors of today’s dogs began 12,000 years ago.
“We now have proof that dogs and humans had close connections earlier than we thought in the Americas,” said the study’s lead author, Francois Lanoe, an assistant researcher at the University of Arizona’s School of Anthropology.
“People interested in the origins of the Americas want to know if the first humans arrived with dogs. Until we find these animals in old digging sites, we can only guess — it’s hard to confirm. This discovery is very significant.”
In a 2018 archaeological study, the same team found a lower leg bone from an adult dog-like animal at a site in Alaska. Carbon dating showed the animal lived 12,000 years ago, near the end of the Ice Age. More recently, in June 2023, the team dug up an 8,100-year-old jawbone from a similar animal at a nearby site.
For the new study, scientists performed chemical tests on these bones. They found salmon proteins (蛋白质), suggesting these animals ate fish regularly. This was unusual because dog-like animals at the time only hunted land animals, showing human influence.
While the team believes this is the earliest known relationship between humans and dogs, they say it’s too soon to be certain. A key question remains: “What defines a dog?” said Dr. Ben Potter, a co-author of the study and an archaeologist at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Though these creatures acted and looked like dogs, they might be too ancient to be genetically(基因方面) connected to modern dogs we know today.
28. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. A new study proves dogs originated in Alaska.
B. Ancient dogs survived the Ice Age by eating fish.
C. Scientists discovered the oldest human remains in America.
D. Humans and dogs developed a close bond 12,000 years ago.
29. What can we infer about the significance of the discovery?
A. It confirms dogs arrived in America before humans.
B. It provides clues about early human-dog interactions.
C. It solves the mystery of modern dog genetics.
D. It disproves previous theories about the Ice Age.
30. How was the age of the bone determined in the 2018 study?
A. Genetic testing. B. Carbon dating.
C. Protein analysis. D. Site comparison.
31. Why is the team uncertain about the earliest human-dog relationship?
A. Weak genetic connection. B. Lack of multiple bone samples.
C. Confusion over defining “dog”. D. Inconclusive salmon protein results.

A subway line that links downtown Beijing with Daxing International Airport in the Chinese capital now allows passengers to enter and exit stations by just scanning the palm of a hand, setting an example of how using biometric (生物识别) data in public transportation can make commuting (通勤) more convenient.
The pilot program was launched on Sunday on the Daxing Airport Express subway line to spare passengers the trouble of swiping a card (刷卡) or scanning a QR code to catch a train, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport said.
Any commuter aged 14 and above can first register the print of either palm through a simple, automated process and provide relevant information to authorize (授权) the payment gateway of WeChat, a popular messaging app in China. Once the palm print is registered, a commuter can scan the palm at any automated ticket gate to pass through. The fare is automatically paid after exit. Besides, the registration is a one-time process and doesn’t require renewal.
“Passengers can just place a palm above the scanning machine when entering or exiting a subway station. The ticket gate will open if the palm scan matches the palm print registered voluntarily,” said Zhang Li, an expert at the Beijing Metro Network Control Center.
The biometric method combines the use of palm print and vein (静脉) mapping, which are different for every individual. Therefore, data masking and secure encoding technologies have been applied to protect user information.
Xin Jianhua, general manager of the public service center at WeChat Pay, said palm scans can be gradually used in offices, schools, gyms and restaurants, as it requires no contact and is therefore safer and more efficient. “Currently, it is very useful for the elderly and those who have physical limitations,” he said. “Use of biometric data allows passengers to take subway trains if they do not have cash or when they forget their subway cards,” he added.

People hate packaging. And, yes, there’s a lot of bad and wasteful packaging out there. 36
When it comes to protecting and dispensing (分发) food, the right package can greatly reduce waste. Here are a few examples.
Packaging keeps the meat fresh.
We throw away a fifth of the beef we buy — the equivalent (等量) of 8 million cows each year — often because it goes bad before we cook it. The solution? 37 Case-ready packaging can lengthen that shelf life (保质期) to up to 21 days. If the meat you bought isn’t going to be eaten within a few days, case-ready packaging is the better choice for the environment.
38
The dairy waste can be avoided with proper packaging technologies, such as Tetra Pak (利乐包装纸盒), which is commonly used in Europe and Asia to keep milk from spoiling, even without refrigeration. Recycled or not, Tetra Pak is a good environmental bet because it can lengthen the shelf life of milk up to nine months. 39 Once again, the environmental benefit of the food-protection technology outweighs the harmful impact of the packaging itself.
Packaging Fixes Sticky Situations.
40 One example of waste-reducing packaging is the concept project shown from designer Drew Stanley. He designed a peanut butter jar made of a soft material which can be turned inside out and scraped (刮掉) clean, avoiding sticky food sticking to your fingers.
A. Packaging protects milk.
B. Using Tetra Pak packaging.
C. But packaging isn’t always the bad thing.
D. We should pay attention to the rubbish produced by packaging.
E. Scientists have developed packaging that can keep refrigerated meat fresh for weeks.
F. It can reduce the need for refrigeration and the amount of milk that goes wasted.
G. Food left behind in jars and bottles makes up a surprising amount of waste.
