The beauty of the natural world lies in landscapes. Learning about them helps us 17 our planet’s magic.
Last summer, I joined the Geography Club at Sunshine Middle School on a trip to a colorful mountain range. When we arrived, I was 18 by the view: layers of red, orange and gold rocks stretched far into the distance. Our teacher said these landscapes hold important 19 about the earth’s history.
Many people travel to see natural wonders. Some love calm lakes, while others prefer thundering waterfalls. No matter which landscape we 20 , each teaches us something new about nature.
We also learned how 21 our earth is. Pollution and climate change are putting these places at risk. As students, we can 22 them by saving water and reducing waste.
On the trip, I sat on a hill at sunset. The light painted the mountains pink and purple. I tried to 23 the scene in my notebook. At first, it was hard to capture the feeling. But I soon realized describing a landscape is about sharing how it makes you 24 , not just listing what you see.
Back at school, our club made a guidebook of amazing landscapes. Each of us chose a place to research, from desert dunes to icy peaks. We wrote about what makes each one 25 .
I found beauty isn’t only in faraway places. Even the small park near my home is a lovely landscape. I don’t need to travel far to find wonder—sometimes I just need to 26 closely at the world around me.
Learning about landscapes helps us better 27 our earth’s beauty. It also teaches us to 28 these places for the future. Every time I look at the trip photos, I promise to keep our planet 29 .
Next time you walk outside, take a moment to look around. Notice the light on trees, the sound of a stream, or the shape of clouds. You might find a beautiful landscape right 30 you. Nature’s beauty is everywhere, waiting for us to notice and 31 it with care.

Have you ever seen a little penguin wearing a sweater? It sounds impossible, but it is true! Actually, a terrible accident long ago led to this.
In the late 1990s, a big oil spill (石油泄漏) happened near Phillip Island, Australia. Thousands of penguins were covered in thick oil. Though rescuers saved them, the penguins became weak. That is because penguins usually use their beaks (喙) to clean their feathers (羽毛). When oil sticks to them, they take in some harmful chemicals. Besides, oil makes their feathers fail to keep warm. Cold penguins cannot swim or hunt for food, which makes them weak, cold, and even lose their lives.
To solve this problem, the Penguin Foundation started a caring program. They called on people to make wool sweaters. These sweaters do three things: keep penguins warm, stop them from eating oil, and allow rescuers to clean them safely.
In addition, the sweaters must follow strict rules:
·Use 100% wool (other materials harm penguins);
·Make size 30cm × 40cm;
·No decorations or other things.
The penguin sweater program has been running for over 20 years. During this time, kind-hearted people worldwide have sent over 200,000 sweaters! With their help, 96% of rescued penguins have successfully returned to the wild. Today, the program keeps preparing sweaters even when no new oil spills happen.

①keep them warm ②stop them eating oil
③make them lovely ④help safely clean them

A. B. C. D.

Simple songs play an important role in kids’ life. They can change a kid’s life forever. Think about it, you may still remember some songs from when you were little. The same thing happens today. Songs can help kids learn faster and remember new things better in daily life.
Music and speaking both have rhythms. When kids sing, they can feel the rhythms. In talking, we use stops and stress on syllables or words to show feelings and important points. Songs and rhymes can help us remember different kinds of things. Music goes to many parts of the brain, and gets stored (储存) in different memory (记忆) places. When kids store memories in more places, they can remember things better.
Kids learn languages faster by singing than by listening to long talks. Singing helps kids learn new words and expressions quickly. If your kid is young, singing is a good way to teach him new words and expressions. Singing more times helps turn what they learn into long-term (长期的) memory. Small differences in spoken language can influence (影响) young kids’ reading. Consonants such as “b” and “p” are hard for kids to tell apart on paper, but they can learn from songs. This can help them know the difference when reading.
Also, songs can improve (提高) kids’ creativity. When kids listen to songs, they often imagine different pictures and stories in their minds, which helps with their creative thinking. What’s more, singing songs together with friends or family can make kids more confident (自信的) and help them have better social skills. They can share happiness through music and learn how to work together with others.
56.How can songs help kids in daily life?
57.Why do we use stops and stress in talking?
58.What can help kids have long-term memory?
59.When kids find it hard to tell apart “b” and “p” on paper, what can they do?

something某事/某物;anything任何事/任何物;nothing没有事/没有物;everything每件事/每物。There is something wrong with…是表示“某物出故障/有问题”的固定句型,结合后句“无法拍照”的语境,应选something。

【详解】句意:太平洋覆盖了地球表面超过三分之一的面积。
covers覆盖;takes拿;makes制造;gets得到。根据“more than one third of the earth’s surface”可知,此处描述的是海洋占据地球表面的面积,应选covers。
8.C
根据“Heavy rain”及“destroy the houses near it”可知,河水泛滥摧毁房屋,flood指“(河水)泛滥”,符合语境。此题需注意A项的rise,暴雨会导致河水上涨,但河水上涨本身不一定会直接摧毁房屋,只有上涨到溢出河道、发生泛滥,才会造成破坏,所以排除A项。
10.A
