We’re always interested in our readers and we love asking you questions. This time, we wanted to know about your future career and how you feel about it. Thank you to everyone who took part in our survey—more than 550 of you. Most of you are in the UK, but we also had replies from readers in Bermuda, China, France, Greece, India, Ireland, the Netherlands, Singapore and the US. Three quarters of you knew what job you’d like to do, although that changed in the different age groups. Younger readers had a fixed goal, but by the age of 14,44% of readers weren’t sure.
Your replies are very useful because they help us to decide what to cover in the magazine. A whopping 88% said yes when we asked whether you’d like to learn about different jobs in The Week Junior. We will be looking at how to do that over the next few months.
There’s an expression, “You have to see it to be it”, so we asked if you know someone who does your dream job. Just over a quarter of you said yes. That still leaves 72% who are taking their inspiration from somewhere else. Here’s what else you told us...
True to your values
We wanted to know about your priorities when you imagined your dream job. Here’s what you picked out from the list we offered.
Money matters
Getting paid for your work is important—but we asked just how important. We asked you if you would do an unenjoyable job if it paid a lot of money. Overall, only around one in 10 of you said yes—although that increased depending on age. One in four readers aged 14 said they’d put up with doing something they didn’t really like.
Be your own boss
Some people like to work for companies; others prefer to work for themselves. Lots of you said you might like to start your own business—80% said you would at least think about it.
What do you enjoy?
Even if you know exactly what job you want, it’s useful to consider which skills you like using. Age made a difference: 94% of readers aged 14 said solving problems was what they loved best. For younger readers, being creative was by far the most important. Here are the overall results, going from top priority to least important.
Being outgoing
Learning new things
Helping others
Solving problems
Traveling
Showing other people how to do things
Meeting new people
Being in charge
Building or fixing things
24. Why are readers’ replies very useful?
A. They let the magazine make money. B. They attract more readers to join.
C. They make the magazine more popular. D. They help decide magazine content.
25. How many readers might accept an unenjoyable job for high pay?
A. Almost 90%. B. Around 25%. C. About 10%. D. Nearly 44%.
26. According to the survey, which of the following is TRUE?
A. All the readers think being creative is the most important one.
B. Readers have different opinions about which skill is important.
C. Eighty percent of the readers decide to start their own business.
D. Most readers think making a lot of money is the most important.

Traditional Chinese colors play a key role in Chinese aesthetics. However, they are more than just beautiful shades—they have deep cultural meanings. These colors are not chosen randomly (随机). Instead, they are closely connected to history, nature, and social values. Let’s explore how these colors are used and what they stand for.
In ancient China, there were five primary colors: cyan (青色), red, yellow, white, and black. Unlike the modern Western primary color system, these colors were linked to Wu Xing (the Five
Elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, water. They also stood for directions and seasons. This connection made them more than just pretty colors.
Yellow stood for the earth and the center. It became the color of the emperor. In the Tang, Ming, and Qing dynasties, only the royal family could wear bright yellow. The emperor’s clothes and palace roofs (like those of the Forbidden City) were yellow, showing the highest power.
Red means fire, the south, and summer. It stands for joy and good luck. During the Chinese New Year, people hang red lanterns and give red packets. At weddings, people wear red and use red decorations to keep away bad luck and celebrate new starts. Even today, red is still the top choice for important and happy events.
By mixing the five primary colors, people made secondary colors. For example, green comes from cyan and yellow. It means life and nature. In Chinese gardens, green plants and ponds create a peaceful feeling. Pink, from red and white, means grace. It was often used in women’s clothes.
In art, colors are used to express feelings. Ink paintings use black and white in light to dark shades to show mountains, rivers, and feelings. Blue and white porcelain (青花瓷) has a blue design on a white base (基底). It looks clear and elegant. It became famous around the world through the Silk Road. The contrast (对比) between dark blue and bright white creates a clean and timeless beauty with special Eastern magic. It was once popular along the Silk Road, making it a global symbol of Chinese culture.
27. What does the underlined word “aesthetics” in the first paragraph probably mean?
A. The study of beauty and taste. B. The study of history and society.
C. The study of colors and shapes. D. The study of nature and elements.
28. How does the writer talk about secondary colours in the passage?
A. By telling a story of how secondary colors were invented.
B. By explaining what they are and giving examples.
C. By comparing them with Western secondary colors.
D. By listing problems of using secondary colors.
29. According to the passage, why did blue and white porcelain become a global symbol of Chinese culture?
A. Because it was only used by Chinese emperors.
B. Because making it is very simple.
C. Because it has special Eastern beauty and was spread widely.
D. Because it uses all five traditional primary colors.
30. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The history of Chinese ink paintings.
B. The making of blue and white porcelain.
C. The cultural meanings and uses of traditional Chinese colors.
D. The differences between Chinese and Western color systems.

Silent Honor, a 2025 historical TV play with Yu Hewei, Wu Yue and Wei Chen as main actors, is based on true stories of unknown heroes. These heroes fought during the important 1949—1950 period for the country’s freedom. The play clearly shows characters like Wu Shi and Zhu Feng, and the actors played them with strong feelings. These heroes put their lives in danger to send top intelligence (情报), which laid an important foundation for the country’s freedom. Wu Shi says the famous line, “If I don’t return, then I don’t return.” This line shows the brave spirit of a hero who fights for his country.

六、读写综合
(一)阅读并回答问题(共 5小题,每小题2分,计10分)
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Many works about this history are being shown, like films, plays and dances. Among them, the movie Dead To Rights (南京照相馆) has caught a lot of attention.
Directed by Shen Ao, the film is based on real photos that show the terrible things Japanese soldiers did during the Nanjing Massacre (大屠杀). The story happens when Japanese soldiers took control of Nanjing. To stay alive, 3 groups of Chinese people hide inside a photo studio.
To survive, they have to help a Japanese army photographer develop his pictures. But while doing this, they discover something shocking. The photo films contain (包含) clear proof (证据) of the awful crimes Japanese soldiers committed all over the city. The group decides they must let the world know the truth. So they secretly keep the films and risk their lives to get them out safely.
The story in the movie is connected to a real person. In 1938, a 15-year-old boy named Luo Jin worked in Huadong Photo Studio in Nanjing. Brave and clever, he secretly made over 30 copies of photos showing Japanese crimes. He put 16 photos into a book and drew a red heart with blood and the Chinese word “Chi” (which means“shame”) on the cover. Later, a young man named Wu Xuan kept the book safe. After eight years, the photos became strong proof of the crimes and were shown to the world.
Director Shen Ao said the reason why he made the film is that few people know how these important photos were saved. Dead To Rights is not only a movie, but also helps us remember the painful history so that we work harder to make our country stronger.

D. The differences between Chinese and Western color systems.

句意:当电影展现村民的抗争时,这个场景立刻体现出战争中普通人的勇气,成为许多观众最感动的时刻。根据“When the film presents the villagers’ fight”和“the scene...shows the bravery of ordinary people in the war and it becomes the most touching moment for many viewers.”
根据“who are not born heroes. But when their homes were destroyed, they changed from waiting to survive to daring to fight.”
根据“which stands for the wish for a relaxed life that was...to realize during the war.”可知这种生活在战争时期是不可能实现的,空格前是系动词was,需要填入形容词作表语;固定搭配be impossible to do sth.“做某事是不可能的”。故填impossible。

【答案】
Dear Lucy,
Thank you very much for telling me about your worries.
First, you often stay up late studying and have no time for hobbies. I suggest you manage your time better. Make a study plan and balance schoolwork and hobbies. Also, get enough sleep. You can try colour therapy. For example, blue helps you feel calm and sleep better. Second, your parents are strict with you and care too much about your grades. Try to talk with them calmly. Share your feelings and tell them you are working hard. If needed, ask your teacher for help. Finally, remember to relax. Listen to music or take a walk. It can make you happier.
I hope my advice helps.
Best wishes,
Sigmund Friend
