But on Chengdu Island in Zhejiang, China, fishermen’s wives yusao have shown the world that their strong voices can be a real force for good. In Chinese fishing communities yusao were traditionally responsible for fishing safety and for solving arguments between fishermen. As such they’re highly respected. So when Hu Sangsu began speaking up about ocean pollution, people listened. Raised on the island, Hu had noticed fish numbers falling and believed pollution was the cause. Without action the future of Chengdu Island’s 13000 people was in danger. So Hu began encouraging fishermen to collect plastic rubbish and return it to land. Volunteers then sort and process it to sell to recycling companies. Since 2020, over 110000 plastic bottles and over 80000 boat batteries have been collected. Now fishermen report improvements in fish numbers. And while the work can be tough, the yusao can make more money each month for their efforts. She was 91 years old. The famed dancer, singer and actor won many awards and honors in her long career on Broadway and beyond. Rivera first gained wide notice in 1957 as Anita in the original production of the musical play West Side Story. She was still dancing on New York’s Broadway stages a half century later in 2015’s The Visit. “I wouldn’t know what to do if I wasn’t moving or telling a story to you or singing a song,” she said at the time. “That’s the spirit of my life, and I’m really so lucky to be able to do what I love, even at this time in my life.” Rivera was born on January 23, 1933, in Washington, D.C. Her father was a musician. He died when Rivera was seven. Her mother was of Scottish and Italian ancestry (血统). Rivera studied dance as a young girl and was accepted into a highly respected school for ballet. She was 17 when she won her first part in a musical. She won two Tonys, the highest award for live theater in the United States. Her first came in1984 with the production of The Rink. She won again in 1993 for the play Kiss of the Spider Woman. The second Tony was an especially sweet victory for the star. Just five years earlier, Rivera had been in a serious car accident that broke her right leg. It could have ended her career. After months of physical treatment to regain her dancing skills, she returned to the stage singing and dancing as energetically as ever. She said, “It never entered my mind that I wouldn’t dance again.” When accepting a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2018, Rivera said, “I wouldn’t trade my life in the theater for anything, because theater is life.” 24. It could have ended her career. After months of physical treatment to regain her dancing skills, she returned to the stage singing and dancing as energetically as ever. She said, “It never entered my mind that I wouldn’t dance again.” C。 C A team led by University of Maryland(UMD) computer scientists has invented a camera called the Artificial Microsaccade-Enhanced Event Camera(AMI-EV), which improves how robots see and react to the world around them. “Event cameras are a relatively new technology better at tracking moving objects than traditional cameras, but today’s event cameras struggle to catch sharp images when there’s a lot of movement included,” said the paper’s lead author He Botao. Tracking moving objects is a big problem because robots and many other technologies — such as self-driving cars — depend on accurate(精确的) and timely images to react correctly to a changing environment. So, researchers asked themselves: How do humans and animals make sure their vision(视野) stays focused on a moving object? For He’s team, the answer was microsaccades, small and quick eye movements that happen when a person tries to focus their view. Through these minute yet continuous movements, the human eyes can keep focusing on an object and its visual textures — such as color, depth and shadow— accurately over time. Just like how human eyes need those tiny movements to stay focused, the camera uses a similar method to get clear and accurate images without movement-caused cloudiness. According to Aloimonos, a professor of computer science at UMD, human eyes take pictures of the world around us and those pictures are sent to the brain, where the images are processed. Perception (感知) happens through that process and that’s how people understand the world. When researchers are working with robots, they replace the eyes with a camera and the brain with a computer. Better cameras mean better perception and reactions for robots. The researchers believe that their invention could have important applications beyond robotics. People working in industries that depend on accurate image recording or shape detection of moving targets are continually looking for ways to improve their cameras, and the AMI-EV could be the key solution to many of the problems they face. With its unique characters, the AMI-EV is supposed to take center stage in the field of smart wearable technology. 28. What is the AMI-EV designed for? A. Making taking pictures easier. B. Taking over traditional cameras. C. Following moving objects better. D. Taking photos more continuously. 29. Why does the author compare humans and robots? A. To introduce the progress of technology. B. To display the advantage of human eyes. C. To prove the limitation of present robots. D. To explain the working method of the AMI-EV. 30. Who might benefit most from the applications of the AMI-EV? A. Famous painters. B. Fitness instructors. C. Professional athletes. D. Movie photographers. 31. What could be a suitable title for the text? A. The working pattern of human eyes. B. The achievement and future of cameras. C. Improved cameras inspired by human eyes. D. Novel applications of advanced technology. C 29. D 30. D 31. 根据第二段中““Event cameras are a relatively new technology better at tracking moving objects than traditional cameras, but today’s event cameras struggle to catch sharp images when there’s a lot of movement included,” said the paper’s lead author He Botao.( 该论文的第一作者何博涛说:“事件相机是一种相对较新的技术,比传统相机更擅长追踪移动物体,但目前的事件相机在包含大量移动元素时难以捕捉清晰的图像。”)”以及第三段中“For He’s team, the answer was microsaccades, small and quick eye movements that happen when a person tries to focus their view. Through these minute yet continuous movements, the human eyes can keep focusing on an object and its visual textures— such as color, depth and shadow— accurately over time.( 对于何博涛的团队来说,答案是微扫视,即当一个人试图聚焦视线时发生的微小且快速的眼球运动。 根据第三段中“Just like how human eyes need those tiny movements to stay focused, the camera uses a similar method to get clear and accurate images without movement-caused cloudiness. According toAloimonos, a professor of computer science at UMD, human eyes take pictures of the world around us and those pictures are sent to the brain, where the images are processed. Perception(感知 ) happens through that process and that’s how people understand the world. When researchers are working with robots, they replace the eyes with a camera and the brain with a computer. 根据最后一段中“People working in industries that depend on accurate image recording or shape detection of moving targets are continually looking for ways to improve their cameras, and the AMI-EV could be the key solution to many of the problems they face.( 在那些依赖精确图像记录或移动目标形状检测的行业中工作的人们一直在寻找改进相机的方法,而 AMI-EV可能是他们面临的一些问题的关键解决方案。)” 根据文章大意以及第三段中“For He’s team, the answer was microsaccades, small and quick eye movements that happen when a person tries to focus their view. Through these minute yet continuous movements, the human eyes can keep focusing on an object and its visual textures— such as color, depth and shadow— accurately over time. Just like how human eyes need those tiny movements to stay focused, the camera uses a similar method to get clear and accurate images without movement-caused cloudiness.( 对于何博涛的团队来说,答案是微扫视,即当一个人试图聚焦视线时发生的微小且快速的眼球运动。 D The bystander effect (旁观者效应) is a social psychological theory which takes place when the presence of others discourages an individual from taking steps in a troubling situation, such as a car accident, a crime or other wrongdoings. The greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that any one of them will provide help for a person in need. People tend to act in an emergency when there are few or no other people present. About six decades ago, researchers connected the bystander effect with two factors: the diffusion of responsibility and social influence. The former means the more bystanders there are, the less personal responsibility individuals will feel to take action. Social influence means that individuals observe the behavior of those around them to decide how to respond. Under the bystander effect, those left without aid may feel disconnected, experience increased pain and decreased self-worth, as well as suffer stress-related aftereffects. Besides, trust issues may come up, making it hard to build relationships, causing these people to pull away socially for fear of being ignored. One way to address the bystander effect is to behave as if one is the first or only person to see a problem. Often, when one person makes a move, even if just to shout “Hey, what’s going on?”, others may be encouraged to help people in trouble as well. That is to say, an active bystander is most effective when they assume that they themselves are the only person taking charge. It is also important for individuals to develop moral virtues. Try to see the situation from the viewpoint of the victims (受害者). Worry less about the consequences (后果) of giving a helping hand and think more about the example you are setting for future generations. If you are the affected person, pick out one person in the crowd and make eye contact. People’ s natural drive to be kind and helpful may make it hard for them to reject your request for help. 32. How does the author mainly develop the first paragraph? A. By giving a definition. B. By providing an example. C. By making comparisons. D. By listing numbers. 33. What does the underlined word “diffusion” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Absence. B. Difference. C. Spread. D. Increase. 34. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about? A. Emotions shown by victims in dangerous situations. B. The harm bystanders may suffer after taking action. C. The bystander effect’s negative impacts on victims. D. Possible changes of passive bystanders in emergent situations. 35. What is advised to do to reduce the bystander effect? A. Try to learn some first-aid skills. B. Make eye contact with the victims. C. Consider the consequences before acting. D. Approach issues from others’ standpoint. A 33. C 34. C 35. 根据第一段中“The bystander effect (旁观者效应) is a social psychological theory which takes place when the presence of others discourages an individual from taking steps in a troubling situation, such as a car accident, a crime or other wrongdoings. 故选A项。 根据画线词的下文对“the diffusion of responsibility”的解释“The former means the more bystanders there are, the less personal responsibility individuals will feel to take action. Why does the author mention the two plays West Side Story and The Visit? A. To show respect for late Rivera. B. To stress Rivera’s long art career. C. To indicate why Rivera won honors. D. To introduce the plays Rivera performed. 25. What can we learn from Rivera’s words in paragraph 3? A. Art is everything to her. B. She was sorry for her old age. C. Art lifts her spirits when she’s in trouble. D. She received good training in art. 26. What does the underlined word “It” in paragraph 7 refer to? A. Her leg. B. The musical. C. The accident. D. Her award. 27. Which words can best describe Rivera? A. Independent and thoughtful. B. Caring and curious. C. Determined and talented. D. Proud and confident. C A team led by University of Maryland(UMD) computer scientists has invented a camera called the Artificial Microsaccade-Enhanced Event Camera(AMI-EV), which improves how robots see and react to the world around them. D The bystander effect (旁观者效应) is a social psychological theory which takes place when the presence of others discourages an individual from taking steps in a troubling situation, such as a car accident, a crime or other wrongdoings. Celebrations are essential for your well-being.
