Ancient Chinese people created the 24 Solar Terms thousands of years ago to guide farming activities and arrange daily life. Among them, White Dew is a lovely solar term.It marks the end of summer heat and the arrival of cool and comfortable autumn days. When it arrives, thick dew glistens on grass and leaves at night, the sky becomes clear and blue, and wild geese begin their long journey south in groups. Local farmers also start harvesting rice, fruits and other crops, enjoying the rich gifts given by nature.
The Tang poet Wang Wei was fond of quiet mountain views. He perfectly captured the peaceful beauty of this late autumn season in his classic poem:
Autumn Evening in the Mountains
After the rain, the empty mountain looks clean;
Night brings cool air to the quiet scene.
The moon shines bright through pine trees tall;
Clear spring water flows over stones small.
The poem paints a peaceful picture of a quiet mountain night after light rain. The air is fresh, bright moonlight shines through green pine trees, and clear spring water flows slowly over smooth stones. It fully shows how the poet found peace and happiness in simple natural views.
Through the beautiful poem, we can feel the deep connection between ancient Chinese people and nature. The traditional solar terms and classic poems both remind us to appreciate and protect the wonderful natural beauty around us.

Do you know a special bird that lives on the “Roof of the World”? We call it the black-necked crane — the only crane species that lives and breeds entirely on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Is its neck all black? No, only the upper part of its neck is covered with glossy black feathers, while the rest of its body is pure white, with a bright red crown on its head.
Black-necked cranes live mainly in the wetland areas of the plateau, between 27°-38°N and 79°-103°E in China. They build their nests in shallow marshes (沼泽), where the tall reeds (芦苇) hide them from natural enemies. These wetlands are also home to other plateau animals, like Tibetan wild asses and black bears. In winter, the cranes fly south to the warmer valleys of Yunnan and Guizhou to spend the cold months.
These cranes can grow up to 1.3 meters tall and live for more than 50 years. They are a key part of the plateau ecosystem: by feeding on insects and weeds, they help keep the wetland balanced. Their migration (迁徙) also helps spread plant seeds across different areas. But now many black-necked cranes are in danger because their wetland homes are getting smaller. We need to do more to protect them.
36.Which is the right description about the black-necked crane?
A. It is the only bird species living entirely on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
B. The entire neck of the black-necked crane is covered with glossy black feathers.
C. It has a bright red crown on its head, with a white body and a black upper neck.
D. It lives in rain forests rather than on the “Roof of the World”.
37.Which place is most likely to be a home for black-necked cranes?
A. A lake in Northeast China (45°N, 125°E) B. A wetland on the plateau(33°N, 92°E)
C. A forest in South China (23°N, 113°E) D. A river in East China (31°N, 120°E)
38.What does the underlined word “marshes” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Dry deserts with no water
B. Deep oceans with big waves
C. Wet, grassy areas of land
D. High mountains with snow
39.How do black-necked cranes help the plateau ecosystem?
A. They eat all the fish in the lakes, keeping the water clean.
B. They feed on insects and weeds and spread plant seeds.
C. They make loud noises to scare away other animals.
D. They build nests that people can use as homes.
40.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To tell people how to keep black-necked cranes as pets.
B. To ask people to learn about and protect black-necked cranes.
C. To explain why all birds migrate in winter.
D. To list all the animals living on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Hibernation is a special survival skill widely seen in nature. When cold winter arrives, temperatures drop rapidly and natural food becomes extremely scarce. Many wild animals cannot find enough food to support their daily activities, so they choose to hibernate to get through the tough season safely. It is a magical natural law formed after long-term evolution, which helps animals adapt to harsh seasonal changes.
While hibernating, animals will make great physical changes. Their heartbeat and breathing slow down obviously, and body temperature goes much lower than usual. They barely move around and take no food or water for months, storing energy inside their bodies. This special physical state can greatly reduce energy consumption and help them survive the long cold winter.
Different animals have their own safe shelters for winter sleep. Bears hide in deep and warm caves. Squirrels fill tree holes with nuts ahead of time and rest quietly inside. Frogs bury themselves in wet underground soil to avoid freezing weather. All of them choose the most suitable way to protect themselves.
This amazing natural habit effectively protects animals from coldness and hunger. It helps various creatures live on and maintains the steady balance of the ecosystem. Exploring hibernation brings us closer to nature and lets us discover more incredible living wisdom of wild animals.
根据语篇内容,选择最佳选项。
41. Why do some animals hibernate?
A. To enjoy cold winter
B. To live through hard winter
C. To look for more food
42. What changes happen to hibernating animals?
A. They run around everywhere
B. Their body activity slows down
C. They eat lots of food daily
43. Which of the following is true about bears’ winter living habits?
A. They stay in warm and deep caves for winter sleep.
B. They bury themselves in wet soil to keep warm.
C. They keep looking for food all winter.
44. What preparation do squirrels make for the coming winter?
A. They hide themselves in underground soil.
B. They store nuts in tree holes in advance.
C. They change their body temperature.
45. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Hibernation helps animals survive
B. All animals need to hibernate
C. Animals wake up in cold winter

Nature is filled with amazing sights. We can also find many simple physical phenomena around us in daily life. Light and shadow are usual natural physics phenomena, and they make our world beautiful and vivid. Learning about these common rules helps us know more about how nature runs and discover its hidden charm.
Light moves straight in clear transparent things. This basic physical rule brings many wonderful natural views. When bright sunshine goes through gaps between dense leaves, round bright marks will clearly show on the ground. They are just the real images of the sun, and this special sight is called pinhole imaging.
Shadows also come from straight-moving light. If solid objects stop sunlight, dark shadows will appear right behind them. The sun’s position greatly changes the length and shape of shadows. Shadows are much longer in early morning and late afternoon, and turn the shortest at noon every day.
Sunlight is made up of different hidden colors. After heavy rain, when it passes through small water drops floating in the air, it will split into seven bright colors and form beautiful lovely rainbows. All these interesting facts show nature perfectly mixes beauty and science together.
Nature hides countless scientific truths. We need to observe carefully and keep learning patiently to explore more magical physical knowledge in daily life.

Protect Our Beautiful Nature
Nature is very important to us. It gives us fresh air, warm sunshine, green plants and beautiful views. We can’t live a healthy life without nature, so protecting it is our duty.
We can do many small but useful things in daily life. We should save water and electricity by turning off taps and lights in time. We mustn’t throw rubbish everywhere and keep our surroundings clean. It’s also a good idea to plant more trees and use fewer plastic bags to protect the environment.
If everyone takes action, our earth will become better. Let’s work together to love and protect nature from now on.
