Li Wei, a 12-year-old boy, was having lunch at a restaurant with his cousin. All of a sudden, part of a plastic wrapper (塑料包装纸) stuck to the bottom of his food ended up down his throat, and he started to choke(窒息). He was scared when he realized he couldn’t breathe. “I was like, ‘I’m going to die.’,” Li Wei later said.
Luckily, another boy who happened to be eating at a nearby table knew exactly what to do. 14-year-old Chen Lei saw Li Wei holding his throat, and the boy’s face had turned completely purple. So he ran behind Li Wei immediately and started doing the Heimlich maneuver (海姆利希手法). In the end, Li Wei shouted, “It’s out! It’s out!”
Chen Lei said he’d learned how to do the Heimlich maneuver from a book several years before, so he understood the physics behind it. “What it does is to push air through the airway (气道) to throw whatever is there out,” he explained.
That night, Li Wei went home and told his mother what had happened. She was so anxious to find the child who’d saved her son that she posted it on the Internet. Later, Chen Lei’s mother saw it and wrote her back.
Chen Lei and Li Wei said the event led to a close friendship, and Li Wei was very thankful to his friend when others didn’t even notice he was in trouble.
“I’m glad he knew what to do,” Li Wei said, “or I probably would lose my life.”
15. What can we learn about Li Wei from Paragraph 1?
A. He liked to eat out alone. B. He suddenly choked at lunchtime.
C. He stayed calm when he choked. D. He would never eat out again.
16. What is the right order of the following events?
① Li Wei’s mother looked for Chen Lei online. ② Li Wei’s face became purple.
③ The thing in Li Wei’s throat was out. ④ Chen Lei gave Li Wei a helping hand.
A. ②→④→③→① B. ③→①→②→④
C. ①→④→②→③ D. ④→②→①→③
17. Which can best describe Chen Lei according to the passage?
A. Polite and patient. B. Careful and shy.
C. Wise and calm. D. Brave and lively.
18. What’s the writer’s purpose of creating the passage?

B. To advise us to develop good eating habits.
C. To teach us how to do the Heimlich maneuver.
D. To show us the importance of learning first aid.

根据第一段第二句“All of a sudden ... he started to choke”(突然……他开始窒息)可知,李伟在午餐时间突然发生了窒息。
【16题详解】
梳理文章情节发展顺序:首先李伟窒息脸色变紫(② Li Wei's face became purple,第二段);接着陈磊上前施救(④ Chen Lei gave Li Wei a helping hand,第二段);然后异物被排出(③ The thing in Li Wei's throat was out,第二段);最后李伟母亲上网寻找恩人(① Li Wei's mother looked for Chen Lei online,第四段)。

C
The ocean is not the same from top to bottom. Scientists divide it into three main zones (区域), like the floors of a building. Each zone has its own light, temperature, animals and secrets.
The Sunlight Zone
The top zone is called the sunlight zone. It is the brightest and warmest part of the ocean. Sunlight can reach down to about 200 meters, so many green plants grow here. Tiny plants called phytoplankton (浮游植物) move slowly in the water. Though they are small, they are very important. They make much of the oxygen (氧气) that we breathe and are the first link in the ocean food chain. Colorful fish, playful dolphins, huge whales and busy sea turtles all live and hunt in this sunny zone.
The Twilight (暮光) Zone
Below the sunlight zone is the twilight zone, also called the “dim” zone. Here sunlight is weak and blue, and the water quickly becomes cold. From 200 meters to 1,000 meters deep, plants can hardly grow, so animals must travel up at night to feed or must eat each other. Some creatures, like lantern fish and hatchet fish, have special bodies that can make their own light. These tiny living lamps blink (闪烁) in the dark water like stars in the sky. Because it is hard for people to visit, most of this zone is still unexplored.
The Midnight Zone
The deepest and largest zone is the midnight zone. No sunlight reaches here, so it is always black and very cold. Water pressure is high enough to crush (压扁) a person without special equipment. However, there’s still life. Strange fish with huge mouths, giant squid (鱿鱼) and jellyfish (水母) that shine in different colors move slowly through the darkness. Many of these animals are still unknown to science. Every deep-sea trip brings new discoveries and reminds us how large and amazing our planet really is.
19. What can we know about phytoplankton (浮游植物) in the sunlight zone?
A. They are the largest plants in the ocean.
B. They can make their own light.
C. They are very important in the ocean food chain.
D. They can only grow in warm water.
20. In the twilight zone, animals need to ________.
A. stay in one place all the time B. travel up at night to find food
C. eat plants that grow there D. make their own oxygen
21. Why can’t humans visit the midnight zone without special equipment?
A. Because it’s too dark to see.
B. Because the water pressure would crush them.
C. Because the animals there are dangerous.
D. Because it is too far from land.
22. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Scientists know everything about the ocean.
B. The sunlight zone has the highest water pressure.
C. It’s easy for people to explore the twilight zone.
D. More new animals may be discovered in the deep sea.
【答案】19. C 20. B 21. B 22. D
【解析】

【22题详解】
结尾段“Many of these animals are still unknown to science. Every deep-sea trip brings new discoveries”表明,许多动物仍不为人知,每一次深海探险都会带来新发现,所以深海可能发现更多新动物。

When people first see Quanzhou’s flower headdresses (头饰), they may think only of beauty. In Xunpu’s old streets, bright flowers rest on women’s and girls’ hair, making ordinary (普通的) life lively. But seeing the tradition only as decoration (装饰物) means understanding very little. These flowers carry memory, feeling, and a way of meeting the world.
Wearing flowers in the hair has a long history in Chinese culture. It appears in Tang Dynasty paintings, where women decorated themselves with flowers. What is special in Quanzhou is that this love of flowers did not stay only in art or among the rich. In Xunpu, a fishing village, it became part of ordinary women’s daily life.
For the women of Xunpu, flowers stood for hope, happiness and good luck. Elders put floral headdresses on young girls before they went out, as if beauty itself might invite joyful things into life. Flowers appeared at festivals, weddings and important moments. The headdress was never just something to wear; it turned an invisible (看不见的) wish for a better life into something visible.
Xunpu women lived a hard life. They fished, farmed oysters (牡蛎) and supported their families. They chose flowers not because life was easy, but because life was hard. Beauty here was not a way to run away from real life, but a way to go through hard times. The flowers never hid hardship—they faced it bravely. Today, the old custom has a new life. Visitors wear the headdresses to experience the culture. These flowers are not just decorations. They are signs of memory, courage and self-value, and they carry unexpected strength.
23. Why did elders put floral headdresses on young girls before they went out?
A. To make them look more beautiful than others.
B. To show the girls’ important position in the family.
C. To invite happy things and good luck into their life.
D. To help the girls remember their family traditions.
24. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Quanzhou’s flower headdresses are just a kind of decoration.
B. In ancient China, only rich women wore flowers in their hair.
C. Xunpu women’s flower headdresses carry wishes for a better life.
D. Visitors today only admire the flower headdresses but never wear them.
25. What can we infer (推断) about Xunpu women from wearing flowers in a hard life?
A. They hoped flowers could help them make more money.
B. They showed their courage to face the hard life through flowers.
C. They wanted to escape from hard reality (现实) through flowers.
D. They just followed the old custom without thinking.
26. What is the best title for the passage?
A. How to Make Beautiful Flower Headdresses B. Xunpu Women’s Hard and Colorful Life
C. The History of Chinese Flower Culture D. More than Flowers in the Hair
【答案】23. C 24. C 25. B 26. D

On February 7th, 1812, Charles Dickens, a famous writer, was born in England. He was the second child in the family. The family often had money troubles, so they had to borrow money from their friends and relatives. Also, they had to move often because of his father’s job.
In February 1824, his father was put into prison for owing (欠) money. The family had to sell all their things and Charles was sent to work in his uncle's factory to make money. There were many rats in the factory and Charles hated this job very much.
Two months later, Charles’ grandmother died. His father used £450 she left to pay back his debts (债务) and was set free from prison. Charles returned to school and studied for two years. However, his father got into debt again, so he had to leave school to work. This time, he worked in a lawyer’s office, but he didn't like the job. So he left and became a reporter for newspapers.

D
