It was a fine day in March when David’s uncle came to visit and handed him a small potted plant. “This is a peony seedling,” his uncle said gently. “If you look after it well, it will grow and bloom into beautiful flowers with a sweet smell.”
David stared at the tiny green leaves, feeling unsure. “But I don’t know how to care for plants,” he said worriedly. “What if it dies?”
His uncle patted his shoulder softly. “Don’t worry. Water it a little each morning and make sure it gets enough sunlight. Plants teach us patience and responsibility.”
Though still unsure, David decided to try anyway. He put the plant by his window to get enough sunlight. Every morning, he sprinkled a small cup of water on the soil. Weeks passed, but the plant remained the same, with no sign of flowers. David sighed softly: “Maybe it will never bloom.”
One evening, his mother noticed his disappointment and comforted him in a soft voice. “Growing a plant is just like reading a meaningful story. A story has its own rhythm and you can’t skip the process to rush for the ending. It is also like sowing seeds in spring—you can never expect fruits to ripen overnight. Just hold on and wait a little longer.”
Encouraged by his mother’s words, David kept caring for the plant. Then one day, he was surprised to see small buds on it. A few days later, the buds bloomed into beautiful flowers.
When his uncle visited again, David happily showed him the flowers. “Look! It bloomed!” His uncle smiled and said, “You did a great job—this is the gift of patience and care.” David smiled, realizing that the best things in life take time, and hard effort makes them even sweeter.

Anyone walking around Beijing recently will easily notice patches of green everywhere—small pocket parks beside busy roads, rooftop gardens on office buildings, and large urban forests in the suburbs. These are all part of Beijing’s “City Forest” project.
The project aims to create more natural green spaces and upgrade locals’ living conditions. Unlike traditional parks, which are mainly designed for sightseeing, city forests are built to follow the rules of nature. They use local plants that can grow well in Beijing’s climate, and create a complete ecosystem for birds, insects and small animals. There are no neatly cut lawns or man-made flower beds; instead, there are wild grasses, fallen leaves and natural water pools, just like a real forest.
A recent study shows that by the end of 2025, Beijing has built more than 300 city forests, covering an area of over 40,000 mu. These green spaces have increased the city’s forest coverage rate to 45%, and reduced the average summer temperature in the surrounding areas by 2—3℃. They have also helped improve the air quality, and provided homes for more than 150 kinds of wild animals and birds.
“Before, there was only a busy road and some old buildings here. Now, it’s a beautiful forest. It’s like having a natural park right at our door,” said Ms. Li, a 68-year-old local resident.
The project is still going on, and Beijing will build another 50 city forests by 2030, and connect all the green spaces together to form a complete green network. “We want to make Beijing a city in the forest, not just a city with forests,” said an expert from the Beijing Forestry and Parks Bureau.
This project perfectly balances urban construction and ecological protection, reflecting the harmony between nature and humans. It also helps build a livable and harmonious modern city.
38. What is the main difference between city forests and traditional parks?
A. City forests are larger in size than traditional parks. B. City forests are built according to natural rules.
C. City forests have more man-made flower beds. D. City forests are mainly designed for sightseeing.
39. What do the numbers in Paragraph 3 show?
A. The achievements of the “City Forest” project. B. The cost of building the city forests in Beijing.
C. The plan for the “City Forest” project in the future. D. The number of animals living in the city forests.
40. What does the expert mean by saying the underlined sentence in Para. 5?
A. Beijing will build far more forests in the future.
B. Beijing will make forests fully mix with the whole city.
C. All city buildings will be moved to suburban forests.
D. Beijing will stop city construction only to protect natural forests.
41. What can we learn from the passage?
A. The “City Forest” project has finished all its planned work.
B. All plants in city forests are brought from foreign countries.
C. The city forests have improved Beijing people’s living environment.
D. The city forests made Beijing’s summer cooler than any other city.

①With the rapid development of the Internet and smart devices, technology has brought great changes to our world. It promotes medical progress, saves lives and brings convenience to daily life. It also changes social operation, communication ways and even our self-perception. This hot online topic raises an important question: Are we gradually losing our creative ability as we become more dependent on technology?
②In fact, technology provides great chances for creativity. Plenty of useful online tools can help us finish creative work more easily. People in different fields have made full use of these new technologies. Now let’s take a look at how technology is used in business and art. Many companies use well-designed websites, good video ads and popular social media to show creativity, helping them attract more customers and stand out in fierce competition. Artists also use these tools to turn abstract ideas into vivid and lively works, enriching traditional creation.
③However, over-reliance on the Internet and excessive use of technology can harm our creativity, especially for teenagers easily attracted by online short videos. Many people depend too much on AI, giving up independent thinking. What’s worse, spending too much time on screens, reduces our chances to observe life and come up with new ideas, gradually weakening our creativity.
④The key to solving this issue is to balance technology and creativity. First, limit overuse of electronic products by setting daily “tech-free hours” and turning off unimportant notifications. These habits will help us focus better and foster our creative thinking.
⑤Besides, daily walks in nature can refresh our minds and boost creativity; activities like yoga, keeping a diary or reading widely also develop it, helping us get along well with technology.
⑥In short, technology is neither good nor bad for creativity in itself. It provides convenience and tools for creation, but over-reliance may weaken our creative ability. As long as we keep a proper balance, we can make technology serve us better and keep our creative spirit alive.
42. What writing method is used to show the advantages of technology in Para. 2?
A. Giving examples. B. Making comparisons. C. Using famous sayings. D. Listing numbers.
43. Which of the following is NOT mentioned to improve creativity in the passage?
A. Setting daily tech-free hours. B. Taking daily walks in nature.
C. Relying heavily on AI. D. Doing yoga or keeping a diary .
44. The structure of the passage may be ________.
A. B. C. D.
45. What can we infer from the passage about technology and creativity?
A. Using electronic products daily destroys creativity.
B. Smart use of technology can go well with creativity.
C. Digital tools make traditional works less important.
D. Teenagers must give up online entertainment to be creative.

The Nautilus sailed smoothly through the cold seawater that April evening. Captain Nemo stood at the helm, watching the compass and the depth meter. Outside, the calm sea glowed softly in the sunset. Professor Aronnax, his servant Conseil, and Ned Land, the strong harpooner, sat quietly in the library, enjoying the wonderful undersea views and watching strange fish passing by the big window.
Suddenly, the Nautilus shook hard and stopped moving. Ned Land jumped up, angry and nervous. “What happened? Are we hitting a rock?” he shouted loudly. Captain Nemo turned to them and kept calm. “No,” he said seriously. “We have met a huge iceberg. It has completely blocked our forward path.” The professor looked very worried and afraid. “Can we break through the thick ice soon?” he whispered. Captain Nemo shook his head slowly. “The ice is too thick and hard. We must wait patiently until it melts slowly.”
They were trapped under the cold ice for days. The fresh air inside the submarine was running out day by day. All the hard-working crew worked day and night to dig a narrow tunnel through the thick ice. Ned Land grew impatient and restless. He wanted to leave the submarine as soon as possible. The professor tried his best to calm him down and encouraged everyone not to give up.
On the fifth day, the thick ice finally began to break little by little. The Nautilus moved forward slowly and broke through the hard ice sheet successfully. The air outside became fresh, and the bright sun shone on the sea. They were safe and free again at last.

【解析】
【详解】“我想知道为什么邻居们喜欢在空余时间去户外郊游”译为“I wonder why my neighbors like to go on an outdoor trip in their free time.”,其中“我想知道”译为I wonder,后接why引导的宾语从句,从句使用陈述语序;“我的邻居们”译为my neighbors;“喜欢做某事”译为like to do sth.;“去户外郊游”译为go on an outdoor trip;“在空余时间”译为in their free time。

Love Life, Enjoy Growth
To me, what makes life meaningful is helping others. Small acts of kindness bring me joy and help me grow.
Last winter, my grandmother was sick. I visited her every day after school. I read books to her, made tea for her, and listened to her stories. Seeing her smile made me warm inside. She said, “You are my sunshine.” I realized that even small acts can bring great happiness.
