A gift is necessary when one isinvited to visit friends in China. After greetings, the gift should be passed immediately to the host. Remember that usually Chinese people will not open the gift in front of the person who gives it. They think it is bad 1 to do so. To show respect, it may be necessary to explain what the gift is and ask 2 they like the gift. Bringing some nourishment and tonics (营养品和补品) to the elders in the family is a good idea. The host usually makes full preparations by 3 tidying up the house and cooking a lot of delicious dishes. Although the meal is well prepared, the host may say to the guests in 4 way, "My preparation is not enough. Please excuse me for my poor treat." As a guest, you should make the host 5 that there is plenty to eat by praising the food.
While eating, the elders will use 6 to pick up food forguests as a tradition and ask them to eat more. As a guest, you should accept their goodwill readily. But nowadays, the younger people follow this 7 less.
After dinner, tea and fruit are usually served. When the guests are to 8 , the host may still politely ask them to stay. They don't have to take it seriously and they can try to find a good time to leave. This doesn't mean that leaving early is always 9 as the host may feel that the guests are not satisfied with the treat. Finding the right time to leave 10 the specific (具体的) situation. Welcome to homes in China.

Different countries have different cultural traditions in giving gifts, and it is important to understand the proper manners of it.
In China, it isn't a good choice to give someone a clock as a present, because the word for "clock" in Chinese sounds similar to the word for"death". What's more, gifts should not be wrapped (用.....包裹) in white or black paper, as these are colours for funerals (葬礼). Sharp things likeknives are also avoided, as they are thought to cut relationships.
In Russia, if you bring flowers, you must give an odd number one, three, five, and so on. Even numbers (偶数) are traditionally for funerals. It would be improper to give two or twelve roses, for example.
In Germany, when you are invited to a private dinner, flowers are good gifts for the hostess. However, red roses should not be given because it means you are in love with her. Also, avoid bringing thirteen of anything because it's an unlucky number, and do not give even-numbered gifts, either. Wrapping paper should not be white, brown, or black, as these are not proper for joyful occasions.
While these rules may seem surprising to those who are not used to such practices, following them shows respect and avoids misunderstanding.

Hi Tina,
I'm glad to hear that you are coming to my home for dinner. Here is some advice on Chinese customs for you.
First, about greetings. In China, we usually shake hands or just smile when we meet people for the first time. We don't usually kiss or bow. Second, table manners are important. It is impolite to stick your chopsticks into the rice. Also, you shouldn't point at others with chopsticks. Remember, you shouldn't start eating unless the host starts first. The food in China is so delicious that I'm sure you will like it.
Don't worry. We will make you feel at home. I'm looking forward to meeting you.
Yours,
Li Hua

I'm glad to hear that you are going to travel to Japan soon. Here is some advice on Japanese customs for you.
First, about greetings. People usually bow to each other instead of shaking hands. Second, you are supposed to take off your shoes as soon as you enter a house. Finally, about eating. It is perfectly okay to make noise when you eat noodles. It shows that the food is delicious.
Don't worry too much about these rules. I hope you will have a wonderful trip!
Yours,
Li Hua
