Scientists put a mother in one place. They put her two-year-old child in another place. There was a telephone line between them. Soon, the mother and child were talking to each other. The mother and child were dolphins.
In this experiment (实验), one of the two dolphins would make a sound. Then the other dolphin would make the same sound. Also, the scientists believed that the two animals knew who they were talking to.
Scientists have known for a long time that animals can “talk” with each other. But dolphins have some special ways of talking. They are very smart. They “tell” something to another dolphin by moving their body in an interesting way. They also do it by opening and closing their mouths quickly.

In 2026, the idea of “spring and autumn holidays” for primary and secondary school students became a hot topic at the Two Sessions. The government will help some places try these short holidays. At the same time, workers can take their paid holidays at different times so that not everyone is on holiday together. Provinces like Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Sichuan have already tried this policy and it worked well. The goal is to let families travel when there are fewer tourists and to help local businesses.
These holidays are good for students in many ways. After studying for a long time, students can relax and feel better in both body and mind. The weather is nice, so students can go outside and do fun activities, like farming, watching nature, or learning about local culture. This helps them turn what they learn from books into real-life experiences. It’s good for both education and society.
But there are still some problems. Many parents have to work and cannot take care of their children during the holidays. To solve this, schools now offer childcare with fun activities, and local communities also have more programs. The holidays can also be planned flexibly depending on local needs. In short, these holidays are an important new idea in education. They help students grow in a healthier and more meaningful way.

The local people call their hometown Minqin “Lake Area”. But Minqin County in Gansu Province is one of the driest places in China, and maybe in the world.
To protect the environment, local people and volunteers work together to plant saxaul trees. The saxaul tree (梭梭树) is a “hero plant” for deserts (沙漠). It has deep roots to hold the soil. It can live through very dry weather and strong winds. That makes it good for stopping the desert. Every spring, volunteers from all over China join this activity.

By March 12, 2025, the activity became nationwide. Hundreds of thousands went to Minqin to “fight the desert”. They wanted to turn sand into green land. In Xinglong Village, volunteers dug holes and watered young trees. For those who could not go, online platforms (平台) like the National Voluntary Tree-Planting Network offered “cloud planting”. The Water-Splashing Festival is one of the most important traditional celebrations of the Dai people in southern China. It usually falls in mid-April and lasts three to seven days. The festival marks the Dai New Year and is a time for cleaning, blessing, and joy.
The most famous activity is, of course, splashing water. People throw water at each other using buckets, bowls, or even water guns. The water is believed to wash away bad luck and bring good health and happiness in the new year. Everyone becomes a target. No one gets angry when they are soaked; instead, laughter fills the streets.
Besides splashing water, there are many other activities. People dress up in their traditional clothes. They visit temples to pray and offer food to the monks. In some villages, people hold dragon boat races and light lanterns on the river.
The festival is not just about fun. It also has a deep cultural meaning. The Dai people believe that water represents (代表) purity and kindness. By splashing water, they express good wishes to others.
In recent years, the Water-Splashing Festival has attracted more and more tourists from home and abroad. Cities like Xishuangbanna have become famous for their grand celebrations. However, visitors should respect local customs and avoid wasting water.

Dear teachers and students, I’m very honored to speak here today. My topic is “Protecting animals and plants, Love Our Earth”.
Animals and plants are very important to us. They give us food, clothes and medicine. Trees take in CO₂ and produce clean oxygen for us. Also, animals help keep nature balanced, and many plants are used to save human lives.
But sadly, some are now in great danger. To protect them, first, never buy things made from endangered animals. Second, plant more trees and never cut forests carelessly. Every small action truly helps a lot.
Let’s work together to protect them and love our Earth.
Thanks for your listening.
