When Stella Olsen was 12 years old, her father presented her with a choice. Her family owned sled dogs, which could take a lot of work. Her father asked her if she’d like to take care of the dogs. “If you don’t want to take care of them, we have to destroy them,” Olsen recalls him saying. She immediately sprung into action, hunting and fishing to feed the dogs. Now, 14 years later, she’s raising sled dogs of her own. Her dogs are like family.
For generations, Greenlanders have relied on sled dogs for hunting. But the number of sled dogs has been cut in half over the last 20 years. “One of the contributors is that the traditional hunting culture is changing,” Morten Meldgaard, a professor at the University of Greenland, said. Those who have long relied on dog sledding are also having to adapt to a warming climate. “Sea ice is not as widespread as it was earlier on. And so, the use of the sled dogs on the ice is limited,” he added.
That means mushers (赶狗拉雪橇的人) like Olsen have to adapt to keep this tradition alive. She’s considering buying a sled with wheels to train her dogs, to account for the fact that there is less ice. “I’m not going to quit my dogs because of the weather but it’s really difficult,” she said. For her, it’s hard to put into words what it feels like to dogsled. “People always ask about how it used to be, but I can only tell it in my version because I live here and now,” she said.
“Putting all of this into words will be key to preserving many of Greenland’s traditions,” says Manumina Lund Jensen, a PhD student at the University of Greenland. She’s working to preserve knowledge about dog sledding through research and by collecting oral histories. “That is the wisdom which we pass on to the younger generations,” she says.
28.Why did Olsen decide to look after the sled dogs?
A.Because she valued sled dogs highly.
B.Because her father forced her to do so.
C.Because the dogs were easy to raise.
D.Because she longed to sell them.
29.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.Examples of climate change.
B.Reasons for the decline of sled dogs.
C.A brief introduction of Greenlanders’ life.
D.The destructive effect of global warming.
30.What does Olsen think of preserving the tradition of dog sledding?
A.Tiring. B.Expensive. C.Challenging. D.Risky.
31.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Scientific research on dog sledding has proved effective.
B.Younger generations have lost interest in dogsled.
C.Oral histories play a key role in preserving traditions.
D.Climate change makes cultural preservation impossible.

Listening to music daily after the age of 70 could greatly lower the risk of developing a brain disease like dementia. A major study from Monash University discovered this by analyzing data from over 10,800 older adults. Those who often listened to music had a much lower chance of suffering from severe memory problems compared to those who seldom did. The research also explored the benefits of playing musical instruments, finding that people who played regularly also saw a significant drop in their risk.
The most powerful effects were seen in people who always listened to music. This group not only had a lower risk of the brain disease but also showed better overall thinking abilities and a stronger memory for daily events. Combining both listening and playing music offered even greater protection against mental decline. Researchers suggest that music could be a simple and effective way for older people to maintain their mental health.
This finding is especially important as societies around the world face the challenges of an aging population. With people living longer, conditions that affect memory and thinking are becoming more common, creating pressure on families and healthcare systems. Therefore, finding easy-to-use methods to support brain health is a public health priority.
According to the lead scientist, with no known cure for such brain diseases, finding ways to prevent or delay them is extremely important. The study adds to evidence that our brain’s health is not fixed. It can be influenced by our personal choices and environment. Thus, activities like listening to or playing music may be powerful lifestyle tools to promote a healthy mind as we age.
32.What benefit did regular music listeners show?
A.They never got sick.
B.They lived longer than others.
C.They all learned to play instruments.
D.They had better memory of daily events.
33.Why is music considered a good method for brain health?
A.It is a new scientific discovery.
B.It is more popular than other activities.
C.It is easy for most older people to access.
D.It can replace all other medical treatments.
34.What is the key message of the research?
A.Brain health is only decided by age and genes.
B.Older adults should avoid all social activities.
C.Only listening to music is helpful for the mind.
D.Lifestyle choices can influence our brain’s aging process.
35.Which is the best title for the passage?
A.A New Cure for Brain Diseases
B.The Challenges of an Aging Population
C.Music: A Simple Way to Protect the Aging Brain
D.How to Play a Musical Instrument

AI is playing an increasingly important role in education, with tools like ChatGPT changing students’ learning and teachers’ teaching methods. 36 DeepSeek is such a new AI tool, which is different from common ones and is built for education.
In education, it is difficult to meet different students’ learning needs. 37 DeepSeek can study each student’s learning habits and change learning materials for them. This kind of personalization is better than what ChatGPT can do now, so it’s a great tool for one-to-one teaching.
38 A high school uses DeepSeek to solve the problem of different learning needs among students. The AI finds 30% of its students have trouble with physics by analyzing their test results. Then it provides special exercises and video lessons for them. 39 After a few months, the students’ physics scores go up by 20%.
In fact, DeepSeek and ChatGPT are not competitors. 40 ChatGPT is good at general tasks, like answering questions or writing articles. DeepSeek focuses on education-related work. Together, they can build a complete AI learning system for students and teachers. It’s time for students, teachers and schools to accept these technologies and make the most of them.

One possible version:
Dear friends,
My topic today is music. As we all know, music is the universal language to all human beings. It plays an important part in our life and makes our life more colourful. Without music, our world would be like a wild desert.
There are varieties of music, such as popular music, classical music and country music.
Of all the music,I like popular music best. For one thing, with beautiful melodies,it is pleasant to hear;for another, most popular music deals with the topics of love and friendship, which appeals to young people.
That’s all. Thank you.

Paragraph 1:
Tom went back to his hometown and searched for the small bookstore. The street had changed a lot, but the bookstore was still there, though it looked old and dusty. He walked in and asked the owner about the kind woman with gray hair. The owner thought for a while and said, “Oh, you mean Mrs. Clark? She still lives nearby, but she is very old now.” Tom’s heart beat fast. He got her address and hurried to find her.
Paragraph 2:
At last, he found the woman, now very old and living alone in a small house. When she opened the door, Tom smiled and said, “Do you remember the boy you bought a space book for twenty years ago?” The woman looked at him closely, with tears stream down her cheeks . “You are that boy!” she whispered. A wave of gratitude flooded over Tom. He expressed his gratitude to her and showed her a photo of himself in his astronaut suit. “Your kindness changed my life,” he said. “Now I have traveled among the stars, just like you told me to dream.” They hugged, and only then did Tom realize that a small act of kindness could truly make a big difference to someone forever.
