Then, the old gentleman gave each of the children a beautiful watch. Finally, Peter thanked everyone and said that he and his sisters did not deserve (应得) such a nice reward. His short but warm words touched all the people. Everyone clapped after the wonderful presentation. Later on, the children found out that it was Perks’ birthday. They planned a birthday party with Mrs. Perks. At first, Perks was not happy about receiving free food, but later understood that everyone liked him very much. After the children returned home, Roberta asked, “Do you think the old gentleman can help the Russian find his family?” The Russian was still living with them, and he could now speak a few words of English. However, none of Mother’s friends were able to help him find his family. “Let’s write to the old gentleman,” Phyllis said. This is what the children wrote: Dearest Old Gentleman, We need to tell you something. Will you please get out of the train for a few minutes tomorrow? We don’t want you to give us anything. We just want to talk to you about a prisoner. Your friends, Roberta, Phyllis, and Peter The children took the letter to the station master and asked him to give it to the old gentleman. The next day, they went to the station. When the train came, the old gentleman got off. The children ran up to him. “Thank you for coming to talk to us,” Roberta said. “I’m happy to,” the old gentleman said. “Let’s go into the waiting room.” They all went into the waiting room. The children told the old gentleman about the Russian. “He wrote a book,” Peter said, “and it made the government so angry that they put him in prison.” “What’s his name?” the old gentleman asked. “I can’t pronounce it,” Peter said, “but I can spell it.” 29. What does the underlined word “presentation” probably mean in paragraph 2? A. Game. B. Action. C. Speech. D. Discovery. 30. Which of the following is the correct order for the children? a. They received beautiful watches. b. They wrote a letter to the old gentleman. c. They planned a birthday party for Perks. d. They told the old gentleman about the Russian. e. They met the old gentleman in the waiting room. A. a-c-b-e-d B. a-b-c-d-e C. c-b-a-d-e D. c-e-b-d-a 31. What can we know about the Russian? A. He could speak English very well. B. He wanted to find his own family. C. He told the old gentleman his full name. D. He wrote a book that caused trouble for him. 32. What will Peter probably do next? A. Write down the Russian’s name. B. Thank the old gentleman for help. C. Talk with Perks about his birthday. D. Repeat the name to the old gentleman. C 30. A 31. D 32. 【29题详解】 第二段中“His short but warm words touched all the people. Everyone clapped after the wonderful presentation.” They planned a birthday party for Perks);第四至九段提到孩子们回家后决定给老绅士写信(b. They wrote a letter to the old gentleman);第十至十三段提到第二天在车站见面并进入候车室(e. They met the old gentleman in the waiting room);第十四段提到孩子们告诉老绅士关于俄国人的事(d. They told the old gentleman about the Russian)。 【31题详解】 文章倒数第二段Peter说的话:“He wrote a book… and it made the government so angry that they put him in prison.”,他写的书给他带来了麻烦(入狱)。 【32题详解】 文章最后一句Peter所说:“I can’t pronounce it… but I can spell it.”,既然无法口头发音说出名字,下一步最合理的动作是将名字拼写出来或写下来。A项“写下俄国人的名字”符合“spell it”的逻辑;D项“重复名字”与“can’t pronounce it”矛盾。所以选A。 C Recently, researchers in China have shown a new type of soft, lightweight humanoid robot designed to be a safe helper that can fit different situations in future homes. Inspired by “growable” human bones, the robot, named GrowHR, is 1.36 metres tall but weighs only 4.5 kg, which is lighter than a large house cat. A six-year-old child can easily lift it. Being very light, together with a body made of flexible, air-filled structures, makes it safer than today’s heavy robots. This design allows us to hug or lift it without injury. Also, the robot is small and easy to carry, and can be packed into a small box if we don’t need it. Using air pressure, GrowHR can shrink (收缩) when it needs to pass through narrow spaces. This is very important for moving around in a home with lots of furniture. This robot can also change its shape to walk through a low hole that is only 36% of its original height and can fit through a narrow space that is just 61% of its original width. The robot’s special design lets it do some other cool things. For example, it can float and swim. This means it could be used to get back things from a pool. Its light weight also means it can be carried by a drone (无人机) to a location 5.5 km away so that it could be used for food delivery or remote-assistance (远程协助) in the future. The research team says that in the future, they will make the robot even better. They will give it more freedom to move in different ways and help it work on its own. 33. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about concerning GrowHR? A. Daily uses. B. Future plans. C. Body structures. D. Safety performance. 34. How does the writer show GrowHR can shrink to pass through narrow spaces? A. By sharing stories. B. By making surveys. C. By listing numbers. D. By asking questions. 35. What does the underlined “This” refer to in paragraph 4? A. The use for delivering. B. The way to walk and shrink. C. The weight for carrying. D. The ability to float and swim. 36. What’s the best title of the passage? A. Meet GrowHR B. Live a Smart Life C. Create New Robots D. Improve Future Homes 【答案】33. C 34. C 35. D 36. 【35题详解】 第四段划线词“This”指代前文的“it can float and swim”,即机器人漂浮和游泳的能力。 Meet GrowHR。 D Have you ever wondered why your voice sounds different on a recording? This common experience has a science fact behind it. It’s all about how sound moves to your ears. When you speak, sound moves in two ways. First, it moves through the air to your ears. This is how other people hear your voice. Second, it moves through the bones in your head to your inner ears. This is called bone conduction (传导). The bones in your head shake as you speak. This makes your voice sound deeper and fuller to yourself. But when you hear your voice on a recording, you’re only hearing the sound that moved through the air. The bone-conducted sound is not there. So your recorded voice sounds higher and, to you, a little strange. This is why singers sometimes put one hand on their ear when they sing. They are trying to hear both the air sound and the bone sound. This helps them sing better. This doesn’t just happen with voices. Think about when you eat hard foods like apples. You hear the crunching (咬碎) sound through your bones too. That’s why your own chewing (咀嚼) sounds much louder to you than to people sitting next to you. They only hear the sound through the air, while you get both air and bone sounds. Scientists find that people usually don’t like their recorded voices at first. Why? Because they’re not used to them. Your brain likes familiar sounds. The voice you hear through your bones is what you’ve heard your whole life. But after listening a few times, most people get used to it. So next time you hear your recorded voice and think “That doesn’t sound like me!”, remember-it’s not a problem with your phone. It’s just science explaining how your body works! 37. Singers sometimes put one hand on their ear when they sing to ________. A. make bone-conducted sounds louder B. keep air sounds away from their ears C. receive two sounds for better singing D. stop strange high sounds reaching ears 38. Why does the writer mention eating hard things like apples? A. To present other ways of air conduction. B. To show other reasons of voice changes. C. To compare other kinds of chewing sounds. D. To prove other examples of bone conduction. 39. What does the writer advise people to do in paragraph 6? A. Accept your own inner-ear voice. B. Get used to recorded voices with time. C. Love familiar sounds in daily life. D. Notice bone-conducted voices clearly. 40. What’s the writing purpose of this passage? A. To encourage people to learn science. B. To explain a science fact about sound. C. To provide methods to improve voices. D. To teach skills about recording voices. C 38. D 39. B 40. 【37题详解】 根据文章第四段“This is why singers sometimes put one hand on their ear when they sing. They are trying to hear both the air sound and the bone sound. This helps them sing better.” 【38题详解】 根据文章第五段“This doesn’t just happen with voices. Think about when you eat hard foods like apples. You hear the crunching sound through your bones too.” 【39题详解】 根据文章第六段“Scientists find that people usually don’t like their recorded voices at first... But after listening a few times, most people get used to it.” A special event took place under the Oriental Pearl TV Tower-a warm ceremony was held to welcome Claude Brouir, a 63-year-old Belgian. He successfully finished a 12,000-kilometer trip from Brussels to Shanghai on a tricycle. ____41____ And it took him over 120 days to get to Shanghai. Claude came up with the idea for this ride when he first visited China last year. He went to Shanghai to visit his son. During that trip, he joined a local cycling event which changed how he saw China. ____42____ “That trip planted the seeds for an idea: to cycle from Brussels all the way to Shanghai. I want to discover more of China along the way.” said Claude. Through the journey, Claude deeply learned about the rich natural beauty and culture of China. ____43____ When he reached Shanghai, people there welcomed him with open arms. Claude added that the great view and warm atmosphere of Shanghai made him feel that the end of his ride was also a new start. The Belgian was eager to explore the city he had worked so hard to reach. “____44____ They look very international.” he said with a big smile. In fact, Claude’s story is not an isolated case. More and more foreign visitors have been coming to China in recent years. ____45____ This is the wish of China’s openness: welcoming friends from abroad not just to “visit”, but to “connect”. Together, these small but warm connections can become a bridge for friendship between China and other countries. A. Claude set off on his journey on April 19, 2025. B. I like to see the differences between the buildings. C. This also made him really interested in the country. D. And he received a lot of help from people along the way. E. This is already happening in Hangzhou. People there can use a smartphone app to call a collector to pick up recyclable waste like cardboard and plastic. They can get “eco-points” that they can use to buy things like food as a reward. This recycling service started in 2022. It now serves 559,000 families in Hangzhou. So far, it has collected about 400,000 tons of recyclable materials. This has greatly helped Hangzhou reduce its overall waste. In January this year, the UN praised Hangzhou for its work and named it one of the world’s top 20 “Zero Waste Cities”. So, what does “Zero-waste City” mean? It is a way of managing a city that tries to create as little waste as possible. China first started the zero-waste city idea in 2018. And it has developed fast. And it even allows people to recycle their things online,” said Li Gao, a government officer, who thought highly of the program. Li also shared China’s future plans. By 2027, 60 percent of cities in China are expected to take part in zero-waste development. By 2035, the plan is to have all cities included. C Recently, researchers in China have shown a new type of soft, lightweight humanoid robot designed to be a safe helper that can fit different situations in future homes. Improve Future Homes D Have you ever wondered why your voice sounds different on a recording? A special event took place under the Oriental Pearl TV Tower-a warm ceremony was held to welcome Claude Brouir, a 63-year-old Belgian. From 2021 to 2025, the zero-waste program grew to include 113 cities. “It is a useful tool for cutting waste. And it even allows people to recycle their things online,” said Li Gao, a government officer, who thought highly of the program. Li also shared China’s future plans. By 2027, 60 percent of cities in China are expected to take part in zero-waste development. By 2035, the plan is to have all cities included. To turn this national plan into local action, many cities have started their own projects. 66.
