We got the idea from the documentary The World Before Your Feet, which showed a man walking every street in New York. That inspired my friend Martha and me to do the same in our hometown,Kingston—known as the most walkable city in Ontario,Canada. We took a street map book and started walking at least 10 kilometers every Saturday, until we covered every paved road and dead-end street in the city.
Our 542.4-kilometer trip started on September 1, 2021.We love walking,so the long distance (距离) didn't scare us.
We loved the idea of discovering parts of the city we had never seen.Every yard gave us a small look into the lives of the people who lived there. Some yards had apple trees full of fruit.Others were covered with painted wood and broken metal. But more than the views and the steps we took, the best part was the questions we asked, the things we noticed, and the deep talks we had with each other.
As we walked and chatted,we learned new things about each other:I told her that I love romance novels and funny cartoon stickers, while Martha said she loved little free libraries. "How are we even friends?"she joked one day.Maybe it's because walking makes both of us calm and happy. With every step,we became better listeners, and our friendship grew stronger.
Winter brought days when we wanted to stay in bed.But what began as a fun project had become something very important to us. Our Saturday walks were now necessary for our physical and mental ( 心理的)health. Our deep conversations remained our little secret—what was said on the road stayed on the road.
Three years later, after wearing out six pairs of shoes,we finished all 542.4 kilometers. What started as a simple "what if"idea changed us forever. Now full of confidence,we are already planning our next big walking adventure (冒险).

D.A suggestion from a local guide who knew the city well.
( )57.What can we learn about their walking plan?
A.They started the trip in the middle of 2021.
B.They walked at least 10 kilometers every Sunday.
C.They finished all paved roads and dead-end streets finally.
D.They were scared by the long distance of 542.4 kilometers.
( )58.What was the best part of their walking trip according to the passage?
A.Discovering the unknown parts of the city.
B.Seeing the different yards and their special views.
C.Creating the long-distance walking record of the city.
D.The questions, notices and deep talks between them.
( )59.Why did Martha joke “How are we even friends”?
A.Because they shared no common interests at all.
B.Because they started to get tired of the long walks.
C.Because they were tired of 3-year walking and talking
D.Because time has made their friendship not as close as before.
( )60.What would be the best title of the passage?
A.A Fun Project:The 542.4-kilometer Trip
B.The Most Walkable City in Ontario,Canada
C.A Walking Trip that Changed Two Friends Forever

C
If you spend time on social media, you're likely to have seen the hit video:a cat is quietly eating its food unaware that a dark green cucumber has been placed behind it.The moment the cat finishes and turns around, the peaceful moment turns into disorder. The cat jumps into the air in fear and runs away quickly.
Are cats naturally afraid of cucumbers?Experts say the story is not that simple.According to Katenna Jones,a cat behaviorist(行为学家),most cats do not care about cucumbers or other objects of similar shape. In her long experience of living with and working with cats, most of them take little notice of cucumbers, carrots,or even candy bars(条状物).
We don't know much about cat behavior.“What we do know, however, is that cats are a prey( 猎物) species, and, in the wild, they're always watching for danger, especially when eating with their backs to a wide open space,"Jones said."When a cat believes that it is safe, it can eat calmly,"Jones explained, "But if something large and unfamiliar unexpectedly appears behind it,the cat may get scared—just as a person might shout loudly at a big spider in the shower."
Cat behaviorist Jane Ehrlich also says that the video might also hide other things. There could be a sudden noise, a movement outside the camera,or even the person filming the cat.If the cat gets scared only once,it will probably be fine. But if the cat feels scared again and again,it may develop health problems. It might lead to poor health,or it might make the cat stop trusting its owner. Both experts agree that fear is not funny for the animal that experiences it.
Instead, owners should join their cats in positive play.Jones encourages owners to allow their cats to explore toys that match their hunting style. Some cats like to hunt animals on the ground.Others like to catch flying things. "Discover what they enjoy,"Ehrlich advises."Laugh with your cat,not at it."

A.sharing a personal experience B.raising a challenging question
C.describing a popular video sight D.introducing a scientific experiment

unfamiliar thing appearing suddenly most likely scare the cat while it is eating?
A.Position ①. B.Position ②. C. Position ③. (
①
)D. Position ④.
( )63 .What is Jones 'Idea on cats' possible fear of cucumbers?
A.She doubts the direct connection. B.She accepts it in certain situations.
C.She suggests a shortage of training. D.She considers it a recent discovery.
( )64.What might repeated “cucumber scares”bring to cats?
A.Stronger hunting abilities. B.A drop in health condition.
C.Less attention to unfamiliar objects. D.An increasing interest in creative play.
( )65.What do the experts suggest owners do with their cats during play?

The Crossroads in My Growth
Everyone meets crossroads along their journey of growth. For me,the crossroads came when I had to choose between joining the art club and the science club.I loved both, but I could only pick one.I felt very worried. Then my father told me,“Follow your heart, not what others think.”He said I should try what I truly enjoy first. So I chose the art club. After that,I learned to draw happily every week.I made new friends who love art too.I even won a small prize in a school drawing competition. That choice opened a colorful door for me.This experience taught me that the right choice is not always the “smart”one, but the one that makes me grow.I will always remember to listen to my heart.
