As the weather gets warmer, what do you want to do for fun? It’s the perfect time to plan a day at the beach. At the beach, you can enjoy activities like swimming, surfing and building something in the sand. However, it’s important to keep beach safety in mind.
Now there is a new AI water management system (管理系统) that can help prevent drownings (溺水). Sightbit, a new safety program, which was developed by a company, can be used to help save lives. This program was created after its creator saw someone drowning in the Dead Sea. He believed this could be stopped and then he started working on this technology.
The Sightbit system works by using cameras at the beach to read the situations in the water. The AI is able to watch the videos and find dangers. For example, it can tell when the waves (海浪) are dangerous or if someone is in trouble in the water.
The system can also tell the difference between adults, children and different kinds of boats. This information helps rescuers know where and when someone needs help. Then they will receive warnings on devices (设备) like smartphones or smartwatches. In this way, they can act quickly to stop accidents.
Now this technology is used on many beaches around the world, and in both public and private places. The creator’s goal is to let every beach be a safe place where people can enjoy their time without worries. This technology shows how science and caring for others can make a big difference in keeping us safe while we are having fun. A clay cat, usually with big eyes and a wide-open mouth, may look a bit scary at first. But in Yunnan, they are little guards that protect homes. They are called wamao—traditional clay cats that keep bad luck away and bring peace. In 2023, wamao became Yunnan’s provincial intangible cultural heritage (省级非物质文化遗产).
Zhang Hang, 32, is an inheritor (传承人) of Kunming wamao-making skill. He makes these cute clay cats in a small Kunming museum and also started the Heart Chamber Wamao Museum.
Zhang first saw wamao in 2012 when he studied folk art at Yunnan Arts University. He loved its special artistic style very much. After that, looking for old wamao became part of his daily life. With over 10 years of effort, his museum now has more than 700 wamao. He said wamao carries history, culture and people’s hope for a better life.
Once in 2021, he visited an ancient village and saw a wamao above. He tried to take it but failed. When he came back years later, both the house and the clay cat were gone. He said, “Even if the house was broken, the wamao stayed with it. It comes from the earth, protects the home and finally goes back to the earth.”
Since opening the museum in 2019, he has promoted (宣传) wamao through workshops and tours. To make a wamao, Zhang mixes clay, shapes it, dries and fires it. Skilled artists can finish one cat in a week, but Zhang says the true challenge is mixing tradition with new ideas. “It sometimes takes a month to create one that feels right,” he said. “The goal is to help this ancient craft find new meaning in modern society.”

A.②→④→①→③B.②→④→③→① C.④→②→①→③ D.④→②→③→①
17.What can we infer from Zhang’s words in Paragraph 4?
A.Wamao is made of earth and breaks easily.
B.Wamao is closely tied to people’s homes and nature.
C.Wamao can hardly be found or kept in the ancient village.
D.People should throw wamao back to the earth after using it.
18.What will Zhang Hang probably do to achieve his goal?
A.Stick to the old ways of making wamao.
B.Try to spend more time promoting wamao.

In the world of sports, the difference between winning gold and going home with nothing can be very small — a tiny moment or a short distance. To get that small but important edge, athletes and coaches are using a powerful helper: technology. Among the most exciting new inventions are wearable devices (可穿戴设备).
These small, smart sensors (传感器), which can be worn on a wrist (手腕), chest, or even put into clothing, are like having a personal scientist on your team. Take running, for example. A simple smartwatch can tell how far you run, your heart rate, and your speed. But more advanced wearables can do much more. They can watch an athlete’s running form, measuring things like how long the foot stays on the ground and how much the body moves up and down. This information helps coaches find problems. If a runner is wasting energy by moving up and down too much, they can change the way they run to do better and go faster.
In team sports like soccer or basketball, wearable technology gives different kinds of help. GPS trackers keep track of how far players run, how fast they go, and how many fast runs they make during a game. This information is very important for knowing how much work players do. If the data (数据) shows a player is very tired, the coach can decide to let them rest so that they don’t get hurt. It takes the guesswork out of training.
However, using so much data in sports is not without its problems. Some people worry that using too many numbers can take the human part out of the game. Can a machine measure the heart of a champion or the feeling between teammates? Others worry about data privacy (隐私) Who owns all this information, and how is it being used?
Even with these worries, it’s clear that data is here to stay. The challenge for the future of sports will be finding the right balance — using the power of technology to help athletes do their best, while still keeping the spirit and soul of the game alive. After all, the data can tell you how an athlete did, but it can’t tell you why they tried so hard.
21.According to the passage, how can wearable devices help a runner?
A.By telling them how far the running track is.
B.By comparing their speed with other runners.
C.By telling them about the weather during the run.
D.By watching their running form to help them run better.
22.What does the word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.The uniform the player wears.
B.The player’s top speed.
C.The choice to let a player rest.
D.The fast run.
23.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.Data can tell us why an athlete tries so hard to win.
B.The most important thing in sports is to get more data.
C.Technology will take the place of human coaches in the future.
D.We should use technology in a smart way and keep the spirit of sports.
24.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Wearable devices are only good for runners.
B.Technology is making sports less fun to watch.
C.Wearable technology is changing how athletes train and play.
D.All sports players now use GPS trackers in every game.
25.Why might some people worry about the use of wearable technology?
A.Because it might make the game less human and cause privacy worries.
B.Because the devices cost too much for most athletes.
C.Because coaches don’t know how to read the data.
D.Because the data we get is often not right.
【答案】21.D 22.C 23.D 24.C 25.A

16.Put the events about Zhang Hang into the correct order according to the passage.
①He opened the Heart Chamber Wamao Museum.

C.Ask other artists to help him make wamao quickly.
D.Connect traditional wamao making with modern life.
19.What is Zhang Hang like according to the passage?
A.Shy and polite. B.Calm and strict.
