Wamao are traditional clay (粘土) cats from Yunnan, China. They have big eyes and a wide-open mouth, so they may look a little scary at first. But for the Bai people in Yunnan, Wamao are little heroes that protect homes. People used to place them on the top of roofs to keep away bad luck and bring peace. In 2023, Wamao became a provincial intangible cultural heritage
Zhang Hang, 32, is a Wamao craftsman inheritor (传承人). He runs a Wamao Museum in Kunming. He first saw Wamao in 2012 while studying art at university. He fell in love with their special look. Over ten years, he collected more than 700 Wamao.
Once, he found a Wamao above a broken doorway in an old village. He tried to take it but couldn’t move it. When he returned later, both the house and the clay cat were gone. He said, “Wamao comes from the earth, protects the home, and returns to the earth.”
Zhang makes Wamao known to more and more people through exhibitions, workshops, and tours. Making a Wamao takes mixing clay, shaping, drying, and firing. A skilled craftsman can make one in a week, but Zhang often spends a month on a single cat. Because he wants to mix tradition with new ideas to make Wamao find new meaning in modern life. As old houses in Kunming disappear, Zhang hopes to save the memories and spirit of Wamao.

“Mr. Mazzella, what’s the difference between a period (句号) and a comma (逗号)?” A student asked me the question in class when I worked as an English teacher. It was a bright morning, but inside I felt nothing but darkness.
When I looked at the textbook, I knew that even if I told this student all the different grammar rules about commas—when to use them, where to place them, he wouldn’t remember them. That day I was in a huge sadness because my mom had died just a few weeks earlier. I missed her so much, and I felt half-dead inside. All I wanted was to stay in bed to pull the covers over my head and disappear from the world, but my young family was waiting for me to support. I knew I had to take every work day I could.
I looked at the textbook again but couldn’t read it because my eyes were so full of tears. Then, all of a sudden, I had an idea.
“A period is the end of a sentence or a thought,” I said. “A comma, on the other hand, is just a short stop before the sentence continues.” When I finished speaking, my heart suddenly felt lighter. I smiled and thought of my mom continuing on somewhere much brighter and happier than where I was now.
That small moment of light helped me as I kept missing my mom in the months and years that followed.
Recently, I was reminded of it again when I saw this sentence in a book I was reading: “Death is not a period, only a comma.” Our lives are a story that goes on forever. Our time here is only part of it.
31. What did the writer think would happen if he explained all the rules about commas to the student?

A. Sadder. B. Easier. C. Harder. D. Darker.

A. The writer’s mother had been dead for a few weeks by that day.
B. The writer was an English teacher.
C. The teacher found the answer to the student’s question in the textbook.
D. The teacher thought of his mother after giving the answer.
35. What is the main idea of the story?
A. Grammar rules are hard to teach. B. A teacher should always be strict.
C. Death is the final end of a person’s story. D. Life continues in some way after death.
C
We often think only humans can feel and share many feelings. We believe that different feelings, such as happiness, anger or excitement, need a large brain for deep thought. However, scientific research suggests that bees can do this too. They can experience something similar to happiness and even pass these happy feelings to other bees in their group. Bee brains are much smaller, but they can still share feelings.
Scientists discovered that good feelings can spread among bees much like they do among humans. Scientists did an experiment to give one bee a surprise treat—sugar water. This made the bee feel happy. After having the sugar water, the bee became braver and landed on different kinds of flowers faster than before. Then an amazing scene appeared: other bees nearby also started acting more cheerfully, even though they didn’t get any sugar water. They, too, began to act actively and explore flowers with faster speed happily.
To make sure the bees weren’t just copying each other, scientists used something special to separate them. They found that bees could spread happiness just by seeing each other. They didn’t need to touch or smell.
This is called “happy feelings”. It shows understanding, which we usually see in animals with bigger brains. Before this study, we didn’t know that small invertebrates (无脊椎动物) like bees could do this.
This discovery is important. It shows that sharing different feelings is not just for big-brained animals. Instead, it is a key part of social life itself, even the insects with small brains.
So, when you see a bee flying in the garden, it might be spreading more than pollen (花粉)—it could be spreading joy!
36. What happened after scientists gave one bee sugar water?
A. It became afraid of other bees.
B. It landed on flowers more slowly.
C. It became braver and acted more cheerfully.
D. It began to share sugar water with other bees.
37. How do the bees spread their happiness according to the text?
A. By dancing. B. By touching each other.
C. By seeing each other. D. By playing together.
38. Which of the following is NOT true?
A. Other bees nearby got sugar water too and then became happy.
B. The happy bee became braver after having the sugar water.
C. Scientists gave one bee sugar water to make it feel happy.
D. Bee’s brain is much smaller than human being’s.
39. What’s the correct order of the following sentences?
a. The bees nearby flew actively and happily.
b. Scientists separated the bees with special tools to find how they spread.
c. Scientists gave one bee some sugar water and saw what would happen.
d. The bee became braver and landed on different kinds of flowers faster.
A. d-c-b-a B. b-d-a-c C. c-d-a-b D. a-b-c-d

根据第一段中“People used to place them on the top of roofs to keep away bad luck and bring peace.”可知,瓦猫通常被放置在屋顶上“on the top of roofs”,而不是屋内“inside the house”。
根据第二段中“He first saw Wamao in 2012 while studying art at university. He fell in love with their special look.”
根据第四段中“Making a Wamao takes mixing clay, shaping, drying, and firing.”
根据第四段中“Zhang often spends a month on a single cat. Because he wants to mix tradition with new ideas...”
根据第一段中“keep away bad luck and bring peace”以及“protect homes”可知,瓦猫承载着人们驱邪避灾、保佑平安的愿望,与题干中的“safety and good luck”相符。

At the 2026 Spring Festival Gala (春晚), a fun performance by a group of special “Kung Fu Kids” became very popular online. They were not humans — they were humanoid robots (人形机器人) developed by a Chinese company. Humanoid robots are human-shaped robots. They look and act like people. They are able to serve as new tools that work with and for humans in daily life. They are also able to cook, make coffee and go to the street to work with police officers. “Humanoid robots might become as common as smartphones in the future,” a robotics expert said.

表格中“Wheel-based humanoid robots”部分提到“Move quickly on level floor”(a正确)、“Won’t fall down to the ground easily”(b错误)、“Can be used in factories”(d正确)。
表格中“Move quickly on level floor”和“”“Can do difficult movements like jumping”,表明轮式人形机器人可以快速移动,足式人形机器人可以完成跳跃动作,C选项错误。
B
A. The student would become a good writer. B. The student would remember them easily.
C. The student would not remember them. D. The student would ask more questions.
32. Why did the writer feel he had to go to work that day?
A. He loved teaching grammar. B. He wanted to forget his sadness.
C. His young family needed money. D. His students were waiting for him.
33. What does the underlined word “lighter” in paragraph 4 most likely mean?
A. Sadder. B. Easier. C. Harder. D. Darker.
34. Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the text?
C 32. C 33. B 34. C 35. D
第二段中“I knew that even if I told this student all the different grammar rules about commas…he wouldn’t remember them.”
第二段中“…but my young family was waiting for me to support. I knew I had to take every work day I could.”
根据第四段语境,作者之前内心充满黑暗和悲伤,说完这句话后“I smiled and thought of my mom…”,心情变好了。
根据第三段“I looked at the textbook again but couldn’t read it…Then, all of a sudden, I had an idea.”
根据文章最后一段“Death is not a period, only a comma.”及“Our lives are a story that goes on forever.”
A. d-c-b-a B. b-d-a-c C. c-d-a-b D. a-b-c-d
40. Which is the proper website to search for more information about the text?
A. www.economics.com. B. www.culture.com. C. www.maths.com. D. www.biology.com.
C 37. C 38. A 39. C 40. D

根据第二段中“After having the sugar water, the bee became braver and landed on different kinds of flowers faster than before.”
根据第三段中“They found that bees could spread happiness just by seeing each other.”
根据第二段中“other bees nearby also started acting more cheerfully, even though they didn’t get any sugar water.”
