1.If I ________ you, I would take part in the volunteer activity.
A.am B.was C.were D.will be
根据“If I...you, I would take part in the volunteer activity.”
2.Yangzhou is best known ________ the Chinese-style gardens. They are all ________ the Chinese style.
A.for; in B.as; in C.in; in D.by; of
【答案】A
【知识点】介词辨析、for、in、be known for、动词短语、介词短语
for因为;in在……里面;as作为;by通过;of……的。根据“the Chinese-style gardens”可知扬州以中式园林著名,be best known for“以……最为著名”;in ... style“以……风格”,是固定搭配,“中式风格”in the Chinese style。故选A。

根据“—I’m sorry I...my homework at home. —Don’t forget...it to school tomorrow.” 故选A。

A.if B.since C.though D.unless
if如果;since自从;though尽管;unless除非。根据“One is not old...regrets (遗憾) take the place of dreams.”

Much of my work as a coach includes helping people make an important decision, such as “If I’m at a crossroads in my career, which path should I follow?” “If I’m considering offers, which one should I accept?”
Difficult decisions like these remind me of a comment made by Scott McNealy, CEO of Sun Microsystems for years during a lecture while I was in a business school at Stanford. He was asked how he made decisions and responded, “It’s important to make good decisions. But I spend much less time and energy worrying about making the right decision and much more time and energy ensuring that any decision I make turns out right.”
In fact, before we make any decisions, particularly those difficult ones, we’re anxious to focus on identifying the “best” option because of the risk of being “wrong”. But a side effect of that mindset (观念模式) is that we pay too much attention to the moment of choice and lose sight of everything that follows. It’s what happens next that finally determines whether a given decision was “right”.
Another aspect of this mindset is that our focus on making the “right” decision can easily lead to paralysis (麻痹), because the options we’re choosing among are so difficult to rank in the first place. How can we definitively determine in advance what career path will be “the best”, or what job offer we should accept? Obviously, we can’t.
Focusing on the effort after our decision not only helps us succeed, but also reminds us that we play a role in every outcome. Our control should be in our day-to-day activities rather than in our one-time decision.
23.Which of the following about Scott McNealy is TRUE?
A.He doesn’t think making good decisions is very important for him.
B.He tries his best to make his decision turn out right in the end.
C.He never cares about whether his decision is good or not.
D.He only focuses on the process rather than the outcome.
24.Most people feel anxious when making an important decision because they ______.
A.worry about the undesired result it may bring about
B.can’t find a good coach to give them advice
C.have no idea of what to expect
D.don’t know what to do next
25.What is the text mainly about?
A.Believe in yourself and choose what you want.
B.Stop worrying about making the right decision.
C.Making the right decision is very important.
D.Never help others make the right decision.
【答案】23.B 24.A 25.B
根据“But I spend much less time and energy worrying about making the right decision and much more time and energy ensuring that any decision I make turns out right.”

Many years ago, people who saw waves of colour dance across the sky at night were afraid. Some people made up stories to explain what today is known as the northern lights, or aurora borealis (北极光).
The sun gives off particles (粒子) filled with energy. Large groups of these particles travel together. They are called solar wind. They travel through space at hundreds of miles per second. Even at that speed, it still takes several days to reach Earth.
When the solar wind gets close to Earth, it moves toward the North Pole and the South Pole. These particles enter the atmosphere (大气层) near the poles. They run into gases in the atmosphere. The energy that is made in that crash creates lights. When lots of these crashes happen, northern lights can be seen from Earth. Northern lights are harmless, but they can be frightening if you don’t know what they are.
As far as scientists can tell, the northern lights do not make any sounds that people can hear. However, if you live where the northern lights appear, you might notice problems with your radio or cell phone when the lights are strong, because the activity messes with the signals (信号) in the atmosphere.
The northern lights are amazing, especially the first time you see them. Even at the highest latitudes (纬度), the lowest part of the lights is about 60 miles above Earth. They can reach up to 600 miles into the atmosphere. Imagine what a light show you would see if you were an astronaut looking down on the northern lights from space.

The Lantern Festival is a traditional festival in China when people light lanterns, set off fireworks (放烟花), eat yuanxiao and enjoy family time. But do you know how this festival started?
In the Han Dynasty, there was a man named Dongfang Shuo who worked for the Emperor Wu of Han. One day, Dongfang met a crying maid (哭泣的宫女) named Yuanxiao in the emperor’s garden. He asked her what happened. And the maid said she was sad because she couldn’t see her family.
Dongfang promised to help Yuanxiao. He left the garden and went to the street. He started telling people that a big fire would happen on the 15th day of the first lunar month. It was the order of the Jade Emperor. Word spread quickly and people in the city were scared.
The Emperor Wu of Han heard of it and asked Dongfang for advice. Dongfang advised him to let Yuanxiao make glutinous rice (糯米) balls for the God of Fire to make him happy. He also advised everyone in the city to put up red lanterns and set off fireworks to create an illusion (错觉) that the city was on fire. Seeing this, the Jade Emperor would not set fire.
On the special day, the city was full of people and lanterns. Yuanxiao’s parents were able to meet up with their daughter in the crowd. The city was safe, and the Emperor Wu of Han was happy. He ordered that every year on this day, people should make glutinous rice balls and hang lanterns.
From then on, the 15th day of the first lunar month has been called the Lantern Festival or Yuanxiao Jie. Since Yuanxiao cooked the best glutinous rice balls, people call the food yuanxiao or tangyuan.

A
Much of my work as a coach includes helping people make an important decision, such as “If I’m at a crossroads in my career, which path should I follow?” “If I’m considering offers, which one should I accept?”

What do you think causes the northern lights?
30.Where is this passage most likely from?

A.They may use up energy high above Earth.
B.They may cause trouble for cell phone signals.

33.How does the writer organize the information in the passage?
A.By comparing past and present views. B.By describing problems and solutions.
C.By telling stories from different cultures. D.By explaining causes and effects step by step.
