One warm August night,Andrew and his younger sister Linda had the house all to
themselves while their parents were at the cinema. After dinner, they went back to their
rooms, not realizing the half-open living room window inviting more than just the summer
wind.
Soon,a silent invasion began.Lots of moths ()drawn like tiny stars to the
living room lamp, flew through the window. They danced around the light until their
shadows (became what looked like a dark cloud.
The peace was broken when Linda wandered into the living room to get her favorite
teddy bear.Looking up,her eyes widened in alarm. For a heartbeat she stood frozen,
then rushed to Andrew's room,bursting through the door."Andrew,help!There's a

Linh Mai was born on February 2 to her mother,Nhi Linh, marking an important
moment for the zoo.She is the first elephant calf born there in ncarly 25 years, making
her arrival especially meaningful for both the animal care team and protection work.
And her birth carries even greater significance beyond the zoo. With fewer than
50,000 Asian elephants remaining in the wild, each new calf represents hope for the
future of the species-and a reminder of how important protection work truly is.

know their personalities. While Linh Mai is still young, parts of her personality are

Carbon dioxide (CO2)is widely known as a harmful greenhouse gas.Rising COz
levels from burning fossil fuels(化石燃料)lead to global warming, polar ice melting and
frequent extreme weather. But scientists now regard it as a valuable potential (
resource.Such a dual role makes CO2 a key focus of global climate action.
To address this, the world is changing its idea:not only cut COz emissions ()
but also make full use of it.This perfectly matches China's"dual carbon"goalsreaching
the peak of carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.Turning
COz into daily useful products has become an important way of long-term development.
Nature can convert COz through plant photosynthesis(光合作用).However, this
natural way has clear limits. The Calvin cycle in plants often wrongly binds O and wastes
a lot of energy,so its efficiency (is quite low.For this reason, scientists are trying
to create better man-made methods.
So far, great progress has been made worldwide. In 2016,German scientists created
the CETCH cycle, far more efficient than the Calvin cycle.Later, the POAP cycle and
THETA cycle showed faster, controllable CO2 conversion.
China has also achieved major achievements. In 2021,Chinese scientists successfully
made starch from CO without any plants. In 2025,a factory in Inner Mongolia started
producing yeast protein with CO,which helps save farmland.
英语试题第5页(共10页)
Besides,COa is further turned into biodegradable plastics and clean biofuels. These
technological developments will reshape industrial production, reduce carbon waste and
build a circular economy. They show clearly that human science can turn a climate threat
into a powerful tool for a greener future.
12.Choose the correct information according to Paragraph 1.
A.People have realized all the harms COz brings.
B.People have widely made use of COz at present.
C.More CO2 from fossil fuels causes environmental problems.
l3.The underlined word“address'”in Paragraph2 most probably means“
A.deal with
B.write down
C.depend on
14.Why does the writer mention the CETCH cycle,POAP cycle and THETA cycle?
A.To explain how plant photosynthesis works.
B.To show these methods are better than the natural one.
C.To show China has made great achievements in COz use.
15.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The harm of carbon dioxide to the environment.
B.Different cycles used in plant photosynthesis.
C.New progress and ways to make good use of CO2.

doesn't seem to always be the case. For example, although Boag's wife used to be a
professional engineer, fitting the smart home light switches is a huge challenge even for
her.
Boag also mentioned apps(应用程序)for these smart home devices are always
disappointing.
20 And what's worse, every device has its own app, leading to a large number

A.Some apps are not well made as expected.
B.However, there are still a few problems with smart homes.
C.Smart home devices can work well without people's control.

As the weather gets warmer, there are few things that are
better to do than travel. But traveling might not be that fun for
everyone, especially for those who have motion sickness
症)
Motion sickness is also called travel sickness. It is a common experience for many
people.Depending on how you travel,it can be called carsickness or seasickness.People
with motion sickness feel very uncomfortable while they are in motion. They feel sick and
dizzy, like the room around them won't stop spinning.
It is generally believed that motion sickness happens when your senses become
confused(困惑a的)with each other,Scientific American reported.
We use different parts of our body to sense movement. Our eyes tell us if we are
moving. The inner ears (contain a special liquid that helps us sense our direction
and balance. Our muscles react to movement.
When you move around, these body parts work well together. But when you are in a
car or an airplane, they get confused.Your inner ear signals that you are moving, but
your eyes say you are not
because you can not see your movement. This
mismatch gives us motion sickness.
But some people are less sensitive to motion sickness. This may be because they have
certain genes (that prevent mismatching senses,Bethann Hromatka,a genetics

Although there are many ways to deal with motion sickness, scientists believe that

uncomfortable anymore,Sam Puma,a NASA flight doctor, told the BBC.
