My grandfather, with his kind heart, decided to take it home and nurse it back to health. He made a little box for it and fed it every day. After a few weeks, the bird was fully recovered and could fly again. My grandfather took it outside and set it free. As he watched the bird soar into the sky, he felt a great sense of satisfaction.
Years later, during a particularly harsh winter, my grandfather was out in the forest cutting wood. The snow was deep, and it was very cold. Suddenly, he heard a familiar chirping sound. Chinese high schools differ from American high schools in many ways.
The class structure is different. Students have each class in a different room with a different set of classmates in America, while Chinese students remain in the same classroom all day.
In addition to the structural difference, Chinese high schools also differ from American high schools in the college application process (大学申请过程) that students undergo.
In the United States, colleges use an application system that considers a student’s high school grades, standardized test scores, after-school activities. teacher recommendations, and often a personal interview. Usually, the last few months of senior year has little work.
The Chinese college admission process is very different. College acceptance is depended on standardized examinations held once a year at the end of each school year. Although students take tests at the end of their first and second years of high school, the test that really matters is the exam taken at the end of their final year of high school.
The main way in which Chinese and American high schools differ is in the way information is taught.
In America, personal expression is valued heavily. Many classes are based on discussion of the material, and teachers expect students to join in this dialogue, so the classroom can become noisy. Classroom participation (参与), meaning how a student contributes to the class discussion, is an important part of a student's grade, so a student who works hard but never speaks up could receive a lower grade as a result.
Chinese classrooms do not place this same importance on classroom participation. Class is based on the teacher talking and the students listening quietly. Respect for teachers is far more important. When a student is asked to speak, he or she is expected to stand. This classroom is more formal and respectful. But it also means less communication between the teacher and students.
32. What is the class structure for students in America?
A. One teacher. B. Study in the same classroom.
C. The same classmates. D. Different classmates and classrooms.
33. What are paragraphs 4、5 mainly about?
A. Different class structures.
B. The way information is taught.
C. How to get high marks in the final year of high school.
D. The differences of the college application process between America and China.
34. How can a student most probably get a high mark in an American class?
A. By being noisy. B. By being active in class discussion.
C. By having respect for teachers. D. By working hard and not speaking.
35. How does the author develop the text?
A. By comparing the differences. B. By following time order.
C. By presenting research findings. D. By listing numbers.

Top Healthy Homework Habits
Your homework habits might be affecting your grades. Are you feeling tired, painful, or bored when it comes to homework time? 36 You can change the way you feel by taking better care of your mind and your body.
37
Studies show that teens natural sleep patterns are different from those of adults. This often causes sleep loss among teens, since they tend to have trouble going to sleep at night, and have trouble waking in the mornings. You can avoid some of the problems that come with sleep deprivation by changing some of your nighttime habits.
◆Improve your eating habit.
Do you feel tired or dizzy a lot of the time? If you sometimes avoid working on a project because you just don’t have the energy, you can increase your energy level by changing your diet. 38
◆Improve your memory.
A great way to improve your homework habits is to improve your memory with brain exercise. 39 But there is one mnemonic (记忆的) method that has been around since ancient times. Ancient accounts show that early Greek and Roman orators used the “loci” (轨迹) method of remembering long speeches and lists. You may be able to use this method to enhance your memory at test time.
◆Fight the urge to procrastinate (拖延).
40 Don’t fall for it! Procrastination is like a little white lie we tell ourselves. We often think we’ll feel better about studying later if we do something fun now, like playing with a pet, watching a TV show, or even cleaning our room. It’s not true.
A. Good sleep is necessary for teens.
B. Get the sleep you need.
C. There are many theories and ideas about improving memory.
D. One banana in the morning might increase your performance at school!
E. Are you arguing with parents about your grades?
F. Parents are concerned about your success.

In a small town, there was a nice coffee shop. It was a place where people liked to go for a break. The shop was famous for its ice cream sundaes One sunny afternoon, an 11-year-old boy named Ben walked into the coffee shop. He had just finished his art class and was carrying a drawing board on his back. He looked around with big, curious eyes and sat down at a table.
The waitress, a kind lady named Mrs. White, came over with a warm smile. She put a glass of water in front of Ben and asked, “What can I do for you, son?”
Ben looked up at her and asked, “How much is an ice cream sundae?”
Mrs. White replied, “Fifty cents.”
Ben reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of coins. He carefully counted them one by one, his eyes shining with excitement. He had saved up these coins for weeks, hoping to treat himself to something special. His face showed how much he wanted that sundae. He imagined how delicious the ice cream sundae would be. But after a moment, he looked up again and asked, “How much is a dish of plain ice cream?”
Mrs. White was a bit busy. Some people were waiting for tables. Although she felt a little impatient (不耐烦的) , she gently said, “Thirty-five cents.”
Ben counted his coins again. He had just enough for the plain ice cream. He looked at Mrs. White and said, “I’ll have the plain ice cream, please.”
Ben looked a little sad when he ordered the plain ice cream. Mrs. White noticed this. She saw how much Ben wanted the sundae but didn’t have enough money. She thought for a while and then had an idea.
“Alright, son,” Mrs. White said with a smile, “I’ll bring you the plain ice cream. But wait here, okay?”

The Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th of the eighth month of our Chinese lunar calendar. As one of the traditional Chinese festivals, it has been enjoying great popularity in our country.
Usually, no matter how far away or how busy we are, we still try to go home for the celebration. The moon that night looks the brightest in the whole lunar month. What we love most is the time when we enjoy the full moon together. With the beautiful moon up in the sky, we sit together and eat mooncakes and fruit, sharing our stories. In addition to these traditional activities, we have a wider range of choices such as travelling and visiting our relatives or friends.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the traditional festivals in China, playing a significant role in Chinese history and culture.
Ben nodded, still looking a bit sad. Mrs. White went to the kitchen and came back with a big, delicious ice cream sundae. She put it in front of Ben and said, “Here you go. Enjoy your sundae!” Ben’s eyes lit up with surprise and joy. He looked at Mrs. White, clearly excited. Mrs. White nodded and smiled, letting him know he could enjoy it. Ben started eating the sundae with a big smile on his face. He ate every last bite, feeling very happy.
After finishing his sundae, Ben decided to do something nice for Mrs. White. He took out his drawing board and some crayons from his bag. He sat back down at the table and started to draw. Mrs. White noticed Ben drawing and walked over with a curious smile. She watched him add the final touches to his picture. When Ben finished, he showed it to her. Mrs. White felt her heart warm. She was moved and thanked Ben with a big smile. Ben smiled back, happy to see Mrs. White so pleased.
根据第二段“The class structure(结构)is different. Students have each class in a different room with a different set of classmates in America, while Chinese students remain in the same classroom all day.(班级结构是不同的。在美国,学生们在不同的教室和不同的同学一起上课,而中国学生整天都呆在同一个教室里。)”可知,美国课堂结构是学生在不同的教室与不同的同学学习。故选D。
【33题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第三段“In addition to the structural difference, Chinese high schools also differ from American high schools in the college application process (大学申请过程) that students undergo.(除了结构上的差异,中国高中在学生申请大学的过程中也与美国高中不同。)”
根据第七段“In America, personal expression is valued heavily. Many classes are based on discussion of the material, and teachers expect students to join in this dialogue, so the classroom can become noisy. Classroom participation (参与), meaning how a student contributes to the class discussion, is an important part of a student's grade, so a student who works hard but never speaks up could receive a lower grade as a result.(在美国,个人表达是非常重要的。许多课程都是基于对材料的讨论,老师希望学生加入到这种对话中来,所以教室会变得嘈杂。课堂参与度,也就是学生对课堂讨论的参与程度,是学生成绩的重要组成部分,因此,一个努力学习但从不发言的学生可能会因此得到较低的分数。)”可推断,在美国课堂积极参与课堂讨论的同学最有可能得高分。故选B。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“Chinese high schools differ from American high schools in many ways.(中国的高中与美国的高中在很多方面不同。)”
