The Comedy Wildlife Photography Award began in 2015, with the idea that humour can help people understand and care more about the world’s wildlife.
Each year, the organization publishes books and calendars featuring the top photos, and 10% of the money made from the competition is donated to a conservation charity (保护慈善机构). Here are some other fun photos from this year.
The top prize went to a photograph of a dancing gorilla (大猩猩) named “High Five”, taken by Mark Meth Cohn from the UK. Mark recalled, “We spent four unforgettable days searching for gorilla families in Virunga Mountains. One day, we came across a large family group in a forest. The adults were looking for food while the young ones were playing. One young male was happily showing off by spinning, rolling and doing high kicks. It was a joy to watch him, and I was excited to have taken his playful spirit in this photo.”
Paula Rustemeier from Germany won an award for her picture of playful foxes. She took it in a nature park where the foxes feel safe and can be seen during the day. Paula got very close to them! She said, “If you put in the time, you’ll find that the foxes usually get curious or see you as something natural, not dangerous.”
Alison Tuck of the UK was highly praised for her picture of a gannet (塘鹅), which is a type of seabird. The bird is shown on a windy day with its face full of grass that it was trying to collect for its nest! Alison named her photograph “Now which direction is my nest?”

【24题详解】
原文最后一段提到“The bird is shown on a windy day with its face full of grass that it was trying to collect for its nest! Alison named her photograph ‘Now which direction is my nest?’”,由此可知这张照片有趣的原因是塘鹅脸上沾满了草,看不清方向,显得十分滑稽。
【25题详解】

B
I’ve always loved the idea of being a “garden person”, the kind who sits among beautiful flowers, drinks coffee at sunrise and enjoys slow dinners at sunset. My parents are garden people, and I’ve tried to follow their lead.
When I first moved into my home 12 years ago, I planted marigolds (金盏花) and tomatoes in the garden. I watered and weeded (除杂草). I bought a nice garden chair. I did all the things I’d hoped to do, but after a few times, I felt bored. Here I was, lucky enough to have a bit of garden in the city, and I couldn’t sit and enjoy it.
The seasons went by, and I didn’t even sit in the garden. Instead, I watched TV, avoiding the bugs and cobwebs (蜘蛛网) outdoors. But I couldn’t shake off the guilt, and I still wanted to be a garden person.
So last summer, I brought back my garden chair, swept away the leaves, watered the plants and cut back the grapevine and blackberry bush.
And, on one very hot day, I thought, “Yes, now I will sit.”
So, I sat. And I was shocked.
For the first time, I found a sense of peace among the greenery and sounds of the outdoors. This seemed to reset my mind in a way that the indoors did not. Inside, I might feel like something is wrong and I can’t relax. Outside, I sat, I listened and I breathed without anything troubling me. And some of my stress went away, though not all of it.
I read. I watched the slow growing of grapes and blackberries and apples. I sat in silence — silence, except for the soft sound of a passing airplane and the rustle (沙沙声) of leaves as the wind blew through them.
And I thought to myself, “This garden is growing on me.”
26. What does the writer mean by “I couldn’t shake off the guilt” in paragraph 3?
A. She felt sorry for not taking care of her garden.
B. She was afraid of the bugs and cobwebs outside.
C. She regretted buying the garden chair.
D. She felt guilty for watching TV too much.
27. Why did the writer feel shocked after sitting in the garden?
A. Because she found the garden was full of bugs.
B. Because she saw the fruits growing faster than before.
C. Because she thought the garden was too quiet to stay in.
D. Because she realized being outside felt different from being inside.
28. What does the sentence “This garden is growing on me” suggest about the writer?
A. She believes the garden needs more care.
B. She realizes the garden is too much work for her.
C. She is starting to enjoy being in the garden more and more.
D. She thinks the plants in the garden are growing well.
【答案】26. A 27. D 28. C
第三段提到作者“didn’t even sit in the garden. Instead, I watched TV, avoiding the bugs and cobwebs outdoors”,说明作者疏于打理、享受花园生活,无法摆脱的愧疚感来自于自己没有用心照料花园。
【27题详解】
第六段提到“For the first time, I found a sense of peace among the greenery and sounds of the outdoors. This seemed to reset my mind in a way that the indoors did not. Inside, I might feel like something is wrong and I can’t relax. Outside, I sat, I listened and I breathed without anything troubling me”,说明作者震惊是因为发现身处户外花园的感受和室内截然不同。

It was then that the fox (狐狸) appeared.
“Good morning,” said the fox.
“Good morning,” replied the little prince politely, “Who are you? You are so pretty.”
“I am a fox,” said the fox.
“Come and play with me,” said the little prince. “I am so unhappy.”
“I cannot play with you,” said the fox. “I am not tamed.”
After thinking it over, he asked, “Excuse me, what does ‘tame’ mean?”
The fox sighed softly. “It means to establish ties.”
“To establish ties?”
“Just that,” said the fox. He stood up and walked a few steps closer. “Listen carefully. To me, you are only a little boy, just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. We mean nothing to each other.”
He stopped and looked straight into the little prince’s eyes.
“But if you tame me, then everything changes. We shall need each other. To me, you will be unique (独一无二的) in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world.”
The fox sat down again and wrapped (裹) his tail around his paws. “Do you see that wheat field over there? I do not eat bread. Wheat is of no use to me. But your hair is the color of gold. When you tame me, the golden wheat will remind me of you. And I shall love the sound of the wind in the wheat.”
The little prince listened quietly. He thought of his rose on his tiny planet. Slowly, a soft smile came to his face.
“I am beginning to understand,” he said. “There is a flower… I think she has tamed me.”
The fox nodded gently. “Then you already know what it means to care for someone.”
29. What does the underlined word “establish” probably mean?
A. break apart B. build or create C. look for D. write down
30. What does the fox mean by saying “We shall need each other” after being tamed?
A. The fox will follow the little prince everywhere.
B. They will forget about everyone else in the world.
C. They will become special and important to each other.
D. The little prince will have to feed the fox every day.
31. Why does the fox mention the wheat field?
A. Because he wants the little prince to understand that wheat is useless to him.
B. Because he hopes the little prince will buy him some bread with golden wheat.
C. Because he thinks the little prince’s hair is the same color as the wheat field at sunset.
D. Because he wants to show that small things can become meaningful through a special connection.
32. What does the little prince mean by saying “There is a flower… I think she has tamed me.”?

B. The flower has taught him how to play and be happy again.
C. He has developed a deep and special relationship with the flower.
D. He now understands that flowers are more important than foxes.

【导语】本文是一篇寓言故事,节选自《小王子》,讲述了狐狸与小王子关于“驯服”即建立联系的对话,阐明了人与人之间通过建立特殊关系而变得彼此独一无二的道理。
【29题详解】
文中狐狸在解释“tame”时说:“It means to establish ties.”,随后又用“To establish ties?”进行重复确认。结合后文狐狸的解释——“我们彼此需要,你对我来说将是世界上独一无二的”——可知“establish ties”意为建立联系。因此“establish”应理解为“建立、创造”。
【30题详解】
狐狸在解释“tame”时明确说:“But if you tame me, then everything changes. We shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world.” 这说明“彼此需要”是指他们变得对彼此特殊且重要。
【31题详解】
狐狸提到麦田时说:“I do not eat bread. Wheat is of no use to me. But your hair is the color of gold. When you tame me, the golden wheat will remind me of you.” 这表明原本无用的麦田因为与小王子金发颜色相同,通过驯服这一特殊联系变得有意义。
【32题详解】
小王子听完狐狸的话后,想到了自己的玫瑰花,说:“I think she has tamed me.” 结合前文狐狸对“驯服”的解释——建立联系、彼此需要、变得独一无二,可知小王子是在表达他与玫瑰花之间已经建立了深厚而特殊的关系。
D
Suppose you walk up to the door and meet a robot guard called “Humanity (人性).” It narrows its camera eyes and says, “Prove you’re not AI. One word.” You might try something big like “photosynthesis (光合作用),” but honestly, the best answer is much smaller: Um.
Not a loud “UM” that you’re shouting to your mum from another room. Just a soft, shaking “um”—the sound you make when you forget what you were saying. “Um” happens when your thoughts arrive late. Linguists (语言学家) call it a “filled pause (填声停顿).” It’s how humans plan what to say and correct themselves.
That’s why “um” is the perfect human password. Humans don’t run smoothly. Unlike a machine, we often pause—and that pause is often mixed with feelings.
Sometimes “um” is funny. Sometimes it’s heavier. “Um” shows up when you’re nervous, shy, or trying to say something that matters. It can also be the sound of fear in your voice, or the sound of kindness not to hurt someone.
That’s the real difference. Humans are not perfect, but that’s what makes us beautiful. We feel joy, guilt, love, hope—sometimes all before breakfast. We care, even when it’s not simple. We love people, though they make us angry. We get things wrong, and then try again. We say sorry, even when it’s hard.
And under all that mess is something real: a clumsy (笨拙的) but strong love for others. It’s not perfect. It’s not always smart. But it’s deeply and truly human.
Could a computer make the sound “um”? Sure. Any machine can. But could it feel the heat on your face when you get shy? Could it feel the hard courage of saying “I’m sorry”? Could it feel the warm worry of caring too much? Um… probably not.
33. What does the robot guard ask people to do?
A. Give some human knowledge. B. Prove they are not AI.
C. Tell a funny story. D. Show their ID card.
34. Why does the writer think “um” is a good answer?
A. Because robots cannot say it.
B. Because it is a big word with kinds of meanings.
C. Because it sounds funny to laugh.
D. Because it shows humans are not perfect.
35. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. People only use “um” when they are nervous.
B. Humans and machines both run smoothly in conversation.
C. The writer believes humans should try to be more like machines.
D. A computer might say “um” but it cannot feel the feeling behind it.
36. What does the writer want to show by asking questions in the last paragraph?
A. Computers are better at expressing feelings than humans.
B. Saying “um” is a skill that takes a robot years to learn.
C. Humans have feelings that machines cannot truly experience.
D. It is impossible for humans to care too much about others.
【答案】33. B 34. D 35. D 36. C
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇议论文,以机器人守卫要求证明自己不是AI为切入点,探讨了“um”这类人类语言中的停顿与情绪表达,以此说明人类与机器的核心区别在于真实的情感体验。
【33题详解】
第一段提到“It narrows its camera eyes and says, ‘Prove you’re not AI.’”,直接点明了机器人守卫的要求。
【34题详解】
第三段提到“Unlike a machine, we often pause—and that pause is often mixed with feelings”,结合后文“That’s the real difference. Humans are not perfect, but that’s what makes us beautiful”,可以推知,作者认为“um”是好答案,是因为它体现了人类的不完美,以及这种不完美背后真实的情感。
【35题详解】
最后一段提到“Could a computer make the sound ‘um’? Sure. Any machine can. But could it feel the heat on your face when you get shy? Could it feel the hard courage of saying ‘I’m sorry’? Could it feel the warm worry of caring too much? Um… probably not.”,这里作者用设问的方式说明,机器可以轻易模仿出“um”的发音,但它无法体会到这个声音背后承载的害羞、愧疚、担忧等真实情绪。
【36题详解】
最后一段提到通过一连串问题,指出机器可以模仿“um”这类人类行为,却无法真正体验害羞、愧疚、担忧等情感,以此强调人类拥有机器无法真正拥有的真实情感体验。

When Zhang Xue fell to his knees in tears on March 28, 2026, the world saw a new champion. But behind the success lay 20 years of pain, laughter, and a dream that refused to die.
At 15, his family was broken and his school life ended. With oily hands and a broken heart, he worked in a tiny motorcycle repair shop. Other kids sat in classrooms; he worked with machines. But every night, he whispered to himself: “One day, I will build my own motorcycle and stand on the world stage.”
At 19, he did something crazy. A TV team was working in his area. Zhang wanted to be on TV so that a racing team might notice him. He rode his old, broken motorcycle for over 100 kilometers in the cold rain just to follow the TV team. He asked them to film him. At first, they said no, but his burning heart moved them finally. That short TV show did open a door for him. A racing team saw him and his dream journey began.
However, success did not come as he expected. He failed. Again. And again. Rivals (竞争对手) laughed, “A school dropout making world-class motorcycles?”
In 2013, he moved to Chongqing with only 20,000 yuan, working day and night. He was always pushing his team to the limit over every tiny detail—one gram of weight, one millimeter of balance. “Ten years of failure? I don’t care. I will keep going.” he once said, “Deep down, I simply love motorcycles.”
And he meant it. Then came 2026. His ZXMOTO crossed the finish line first. The poor boy, now a middle-aged man, stood at the top of the world. After the victory, Zhang wrote: “It’s not about winning a prize. It’s about loving the ride. And that, perhaps, changes everything.”

C
A. break apart B. build or create C. look for D. write down

A. The fox will follow the little prince everywhere.

D. The little prince will have to feed the fox every day.
31. Why does the fox mention the wheat field?
