第一节
A篇
the jet stream moves toward the poles.
When that happens...lets the high
pressure south of the jet stream, and
the air mass with it,get warmer(夏季,
the jet stream moves toward the poles.
"When the jet stream dips south toward
jet stream moves in a wave-like way.It
goes north,then south,then north a-
gain.If these waves in the jet stream
get bigger, they slow down and stop
moving.Then a high-pressure system
stays in the upper part of the air,trap-
ping the air. These heat domes mostly
form over large areas of land during the
summer months..”

"From the song,I knew we needed a
place to remember the heroes forever",
His devotion to hono
ring the heroes bore fruit..”
knew their chances of survival were
slim,'Zhang reflects.'Yet they chose
death for their country over life under
slavery.This is China's backbone,Chi-
preservation is secured by nearly 200
million yuan...A new exhibition hall is
can also have trade-offs,where one fea-
ture improves at the expense of other

cue's Facebook post shared by friends
in her neighborhood,Lily noticed a dog
A.looking for(寻找)侧
重主动搜寻目标,B.turning to(求助于)
强调寻求帮助,C.commenting on(评论)
47.C
根据后文“at the
A.incredible(难以置信的)、
B.joyful(快乐的)、D.active(活跃的)均
lovely(可爱的)、C.pretty(漂亮的)、D.
sincere(真诚的,多形容人)均不符合“认
根据前文“Max.had
gone missing from her home back in 2020"
49.B
“to search everywhere in the area'”(在该地
A.interest(兴趣)、C.
wish(愿望)、D.dream(梦想)均侧重主观想
Despite
her family's effort to search every-
“locate'
A.quit(放弃)与“努力寻
找”矛盾,B.protect(保护)、C.forget(忘
sage with photos and a detailed descrip-
Emma quickly replied to the mes-
A.left(留
下)、C.wrote(写)、D.delivered(递送)均
that the dog brought to our rescue and
renamed Buddy was..,.Max”(希望那只
A.presence(存
在)、B.character(性格)、D.situation(处
A.natu-
rally(自然地)、B.typically(通常地)、C.
precisely(精确地)均无法体现“确认真
Buddy
would still be at the event'”(巴迪仍会参
A.expec-

The World Health Organization advises
that children between the ages of 5 and 17 get
at least 60 minutes of physical activity every
day.The activity should be very energetic.
Studies on children and exercise show that fit-
ness is good for more than just physical health.
A study shows that physical activity helps
students with their studies.Harold Kohl leads
the study. He is a professor at the University of
Texas.He researches how diseases spread
among populations."The evidence is really in
the last 5 or 6 years. It really helps children
learn,recall things faster,think faster and
actually are more likely to achieve their full ac-
ademic potential compared to the children who
are not physically active."A University of Illi-
nois study shows similar results.Professor
Hillman talked to VOA on Skype.Mr Hillman
says children in his study who had physical
activity on a usual basis improved in school. He
also says children learn best if physical activity
is included during class or before.

Summer often comes with trips to the beach, ice cream, and fun in
the sun.But it can also bring some very unpleasant-and even danger-
ous-weather,like heat domes(穹顶).
During a heat dome, hot air gets stuck over a piece of land for a long
time. It's like how a lid on a boiling pot keeps the heat inside the pot. When such high tem-
peratures stay in one area for a long while,it causes dangerous and extreme heat.
Usually,the jet stream moves in a wave-like way.It goes north,then south,then north
again. If these waves in the jet stream get bigger, they slow down and stop moving. Then a
high-pressure system stays in the upper part of the air, trapping the air. These heat domes
mostly form over large areas of land during the summer months.
In summer, the jet stream moves toward the poles. When that happens, the jet stream
and the weather patterns connected to it don't move much. This lets the high pressure south
of the jet stream, and the air mass with it,get warmer. The sun also makes this heat stron-
ger.Because of the high-pressure system, there are usually few or no clouds. So the sun's
rays hit the Earth directly below.
When the jet stream dips south and makes a U-shape,it's called a
trough.Where it goes up,that's a ridge. The ridge is where warm air has
moved north, and the trough is where cold air has moved south.
When the jet stream dips south toward the equator(赤道),that
movement can create a low-pressure system. This helps move the heat
dome further east and out over the ocean.Once it's over the ocean, the
surface temperatures are cooler, which helps lower the temperature.
21.What makes heat domes often appear in summer?
A.Oceans get very hot.
B.The sun is not strong.
C.Lands become cold fast.
D.Jet stream goes to the poles.
22.Which half-globe does the text talk about?
A.The Southern half-globe.

D.Not mentioned.
23.What is the second picture used to explain?
A.What is a heat dome?
B.Where is a heat dome?
C.When do heat domes move?
D.What makes heat domes move?

On March 9,1933,the Battle of Xifengkou-a strategic pass along the Great Wall-
broke out during the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.De-
spite being outgunned and outnumbered,Chinese soldiers achieved a major victory over the
Japanese army.
This victory inspired Mai Xin to compose the song Dadao Jinxingqu (March of the
Broadswords)inl937,with the opening line:“Broadswords!Charge at the devils'heads!”
Decades later,the battle's legacy resonated()with Zhang Guohua,a local farmer.Hav-
ing grown up listening to the song,a seed of purpose took root in him.
"From the song,I knew we needed a place to remember the heroes forever.Future gen-
erations deserve a spot to memorize them and keep their spirit alive, says the 71-year-old.
For over a decade, driven purely by passion,Zhang searched the places to collect relics:
pieces of uniforms, shell casings, and nearly 100 of the unit's typical broadswords.
"They knew their chances of survival were slim,"Zhang reflects."Yet they chose death
for their country over life under slavery. This is China's backbone,China's spirit.
His devotion to honoring the heroes bore fruit. With support from local authorities,a
museum was built near the ancient Xifengkou pass, alongside a garden featuring broadsword
sculptures,to memorialize the battle. Now a national patriotic education base, the museum
houses 493 relics he collected over the years.
Today,Zhang's mission endures.Xifengkou's preservation is secured by nearly 200 mil-
lion yuan ($27.87 million)in investment,as it becomes part of the national Great Wall Cul-
tural Park.A new exhibition hall is also nearing completion,Zhang notes.
He still holds one dream:a memorial wall for the fallen heroes.Brick by brick,Zhang

Humans are developing wilderness into cities,re-engineering ecosystems by introducing
invasive(A)species, polluting the planet in numerous ways and driving changes to
Earth's climate. But in response, some animals are evolving at a surprisingly fast pace.
This process preserves features that have newly become beneficial in human-altered envi-
ronments.Such evolution provides a survival advantage, but it can also have trade-offs,where
one feature improves at the expense of other important ones. And such animal adaptations can
cause unpredictable impacts on the wider ecosystem.
Anoles in Puerto Rico,to do well in urban areas, grow longer legs to move quickly
across open spaces exposed to predators().They have large toe pads with tiny struc-
tures called lamellae enabling them to stick to smooth surfaces like walls, concrete and glass.
The 400 species of Anolis lizards have a long evolutionary history of ecological specializa-
tion-especially in leg length and toe pads-as they diversified, says Kristin Winchell,a biol-
ogist at New York University. The features have evolved differently to help various species
specialize in different parts of the forest habitat.
The urban anoles can also tolerate heat-almost two degrees Fahrenheit higher than their
rural relatives-to live where pavement and metal can push their physiological limits."Al-
though one degree Celsius doesn't seem like a lot,"Winchell writes in an email,"this can
make the difference of being able to remain active during midday and needing to find a cool
place, which provides more access to food and mates.
Over the past 20 to 30 years,Winchell has observed the same physical and genetic adap-
tations arise in genetically distinct populations across multiple locations on the island."So this
is an example of parallel()adaptation with changes repeatedly arising in response to the
same selection pressures in cities, she says.
She believes the lizards probably have many more urban adaptations."The urban habitat
is incredibly different,"she notes,"so nearly every aspect of their behavior,signaling,physi-
cal functions, and body structure could be adaptively changing in response.
28.What does“trade-offs”imply in the text?
A.All features improve together.
B.One feature gains at others'loss.
C.Ecosystems remain balanced.
D.Adaptations have no side effects.
29.What makes urban anoles stick to smooth surfaces?
A.Heat tolerance ability.

30.Why does Winchell mention parallel adaptation?
A.To show evolution speed.
B.To explain genetic diversity.
C.To stress urban influence.
D.To compare forest and city.
31.What can be inferred about anoles'evolution?
A.It's unique to Puerto Rico.
B.It stops in safe environments.
C.It's driven by human activities.

Being highly sensitive raises the risk of mental health struggles, but it also boosts the
benefits of positive experiences and treatments, according to one research.
The meta-analysis of 33 studies looked at the relationship between sensitivity and com-
mon mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.Researchers found there was a
significant, positive relationship between the two, concluding that highly sensitive people are
more likely to experience depression and anxiety compared to those who are less sensitive.
In the study, sensitivity was defined as a personality feature that reflects people's capaci-
ty to sense and process environmental stimuli such as bright lights, tiny changes in the envi-
ronment and other people's moods.Often overlooked in mental health studies and clinical
practice, which tend to focus on neuroticism and its association with mental health condi-
tions, this research shows that understanding a person's sensitivity level is important and can
have therapeutic(治疗的)implications.
Tom Falkenstein,a psychotherapist at Queen Mary University of London, said,"This is
the most extensive systematic review on sensitivity and mental health in adolescents and a-
dults to date, and is the first ever meta-analysis on the topic to estimate the impact of this re-
lationship. We found positive and mid-range connections between sensitivity and various men-
tal health problems such as depression, anxiety, stress disorder, and avoidant personality dis-
order. Our findings suggest that sensitivity should be considered more in clinical practice
which could be used to improve diagnosis of conditions.
He added,"In addition, our findings could help improve treatment for these individuals.
Around 31%of the general population are considered highly sensitive, and,as our findings
show, are more likely to respond better to some psychological interventions()than less
sensitive individuals. Therefore, sensitivity should be considered when thinking about treat-
ment plans for mental health conditions. Our work shows it is crucial that the awareness of
sensitivity is improved among mental health care professionals,so clinicians and practitioners
can recognize the character in their patients, and tailor treatment to their sensitivity.
32.How does sensitivity affect people?
A.It has both pros and cons.
B.It reduces treatment effects.
C.It greatly harms mental health.
D.It weakens environmental awareness.
33.What makes the research different?
A.It focuses on sensitivity.
B.It studies neuroticism mainly.
C.It ignores clinical implications.
D.It covers few mental problems.
34.What is Tom's advice on treatment?
A.Using fixed treatment plans.
B.Ignoring patients'sensitivity.
C.Adjusting plans to sensitivity.
D.Avoiding psychological interventions.
35.How is the text mainly developed?
A.By telling personal stories.
B.By describing historical events.
C.By presenting research findings.
D.By expressing different opinions.

At-home exercise has long been a challenge for me,as I find I have trouble staying active
the same way I do when I'm at the gym.36.Here are seven changes I've made that you
can also try if you're struggling to convince yourself to break a sweat while your couch is call-
ing you from across the room.
I do love being at the gym because I enjoy being around people. It's inspiring to see the
same faces every day and to be surrounded by people who are also working hard.37 you
almost can't help but put some extra enthusiasm into your own workout.Sadly, that energy
is harder to find if you primarily work out from home.
This is why I love taking Peloton classes. The leaderboards make it easy to feel like I'm
part of a real class.38,even faceless strangers whose output scores I'm trying to beat in
an online setting. If you don't have a Peloton, there are other ways to achieve this same
effect.
39 Gather a group of friends who will all commit to,say, submitting mid-workout
selfies to a group chat once a day for accountability.I follow a few different people who do this
publicly via Instagram stories, but that's a stretch, even for me.If none of your friends are
into it,strangers on the Internet will be:Search Reddit or Facebook for "fitness challenge"or
“workout challenge”.Add your city or some identifiers,like“for moms,.”and you'll find a
group of like-minded people who want to hold each other accountable.
A lot of online fitness instructors, like people who upload cycling classes to YouTube,
offer live classes, too.Just like signing up for a class at the gym, this can force you to work
out when you might not otherwise want to.40.
A.Pilates can boost your overall fitness
B.One choice is to set up challenge groups
C.But I've found some ways to keep myself consistent
D.And I always feel a need to compete with other people
E.After your workout wraps up,try to refuel within two hours
F.You don't want to miss class or make other regulars wonder where you are
G.When you're next to someone on a running machine or taking a Pilates class

In the fifth grade, while other kids played basketball on the playground,I stayed at my
desk, penning poems in a notebook. With the simple vocabulary of a ten-year-old,I put down
my thoughts on sunsets and kindness, nurturing the dream of becoming a poet someday. My
fifth-grade teacher recommended my parents support this passion, yet they worried poetry
would distract(使分心)me from math and Chinese studies.
As an adult,my desire to write never faded.Though the dream remained, working as a
community library administrator offered a steady income, drawing me into daily routines-or-
ganizing books, assisting readers, and handling paperwork. The job left no time for poems,
and raising my son occupied most of my free hours, making it tough to pursue my poetic
dream.Still,I stuck to that tiny flame lighted in my childhood.
At 55,I still worked at the library but felt empty after my son entered college.Sharing
poems on my personal blog filled part of the void();they received warm comments like
"Your words comfort my heart.Yet as I approached 60,I never imagined poetry could be
more than a hobby.
One day,I ran into a college classmate who followed my blog.We hadn't met in over 20
years,so I smiled and walked over.Expecting talks about the passage of time or life changes,
I was shocked by her first words,"You should collect your poems into a book-this is where
your true talent lies.
She'd read every poem I posted and left encouraging notes, but no one had ever spoken
so directly. Her words relighted the long-dimmed flame.Deep down,I knew I still longed to
be a poet.I decided to take her advice, turn my scattered()poems into something real,
and give it a try.
