Showcasing Chinese Culture
Last month, our class held a "Showcasing Chinese Culture" project. Each group chose a different cultural topic to introduce. It was an amazing experience to learn and share our culture together.
Group One chose Chinese paper-cutting. They showed beautiful paper-cuttings of animals, flowers and Chinese characters. The group leader explained that paper-cutting has been practiced in China for over 1,500 years. People usually put paper-cuttings on windows and doors during festivals to bring good luck.
Group Two introduced Beijing opera. They played a short video of a famous Beijing opera performance. The actors wore colorful costumes and painted their faces in different colors. The group told us that the colors of the faces have special meanings. For example, red means loyalty and bravery, while white means cunningness.
Group Three chose the Miao people's silver jewelry. They brought some real silver jewelry to show the class. They explained that the Miao people believe silver can drive away evil spirits and bring health. The jewelry is also a symbol of the Miao people's beautiful art and rich culture.
Our group chose Chinese tea culture. We prepared tea for the class and taught everyone how to taste tea. We explained that tea has been an important part of Chinese life for thousands of years. Drinking tea is not just about the taste—it is also a way to relax and connect with others.
Through this project, all of us learned a lot about Chinese culture. I feel very proud of our traditions. I believe that the more we know about our culture, the more confident we will be to share it with the world.
