What can fossils (化石) tell us about prehistoric (远古的) environments?
Fossils can keep a record of the earth’s prehistoric environments for an extremely long time. In fact, some fossils can preserve information for millions of years!
If you study a fossil sample, you may find that it has many structures (结构) . We were told by these structures the age of the fossil, and what the environment was like during each period of the fossil’s formation.
The light structures are parts that formed in seasons with high temperature, while the dark structures are parts that formed in seasons with low temperature. One light structure and one dark structure make one year of the fossil’s record.
Fossil structures usually grow more complete in years with stable (稳定的) ecosystems and are incomplete in years with unstable ecosystems. If the fossil has experienced extreme conditions, such as a volcanic eruption (火山喷发) , the fossil might have special traces (踪迹) in those years.
In most regions, detailed records of prehistoric environments only date back to the past few million years. However, scientists can use fossils to learn about the environment millions of years ago.

Is reading better than watching TV? I believe it is. Reading might be best of many activities. If you want to educate yourself and improve your chances of succeeding in your work, please read.
If you’re serious about creating the habit of reading, what’s important is finding a time you can read every day-often that’s early morning or late at night, or both. For others, it might be during their lunch break. You can read for 10 to 20 minutes a day to form the habit.
Then, you need to find a place that’s comfortable. Make sure it has good lighting, the temperature is nice and you’re in a good chair. Or you can find some places that you can relax in without falling asleep, although there’s nothing wrong with sleep.
Next, be sure to shut off the TV, Internet, cellphone, radio, or other music. Let reading be a quiet time. Mark an “X” on your calendar every day you read. Try to keep your unbroken “X”s going as long as possible. A habit is much easier to get into if it’s something you enjoy. So make the time you spend reading a joy. I’ve been a lifelong reader, so the pleasure of a good book is one of my favorite things in the world. I love to lose myself in the world of a book. The habit of reading will influence you all life long.

B 67. C 68. E 69. A 70. G
B“It also helps you improve your writing skills(它也有助于你提升你的写作技巧)”是对阅读好处的补充,承上启下,符合语境。
C“Choose materials that are suitable for your level.(选择适合你水平的材料)”与本段主题一致,且与后文关于不同阶段选择不同材料的描述相呼应。
E“You can set a fixed time for reading every day.(你可以为每天的阅读设定一个固定时间)”与前后文关于时间安排的内容相符。
A“Instead, try to guess its meaning first.(相反,先试着猜测它的意思)”与前文构成转折关系,并引出后文的具体做法,逻辑通顺。
G选项“Taking notes can also help you review what you have read.”
(C)
Do you often listen to music at loud volumes (音量)? You should know that this habit is bad for your hearing. Over 1 billion young people are at risk of hearing loss (听力丧失) ,because of listening to loud noise for long periods of time. Listening to music or watching a TV show at loud volumes can harm your hearing.
The United Nations has standards for safe listening. It is not safe to listen to sounds that are louder than 85 dB (分贝) for eight hours or 100 dB for 15 minutes. The sound of a busy road is about 85 dB and the sound of a rock concert can be about 100 dB.
Loud noise is harmful to the inner ear. Most of us are bon with about 16,000 hair cells (听毛细胞) in our inner ears. These cells notice sounds. However, listening to loud noise for a long time can make these cells work too hard and cause some of them to die. This is what causes hearing loss. Once this happens, it's hard to get your hearing back.
Some people might think that their music isn't all that loud. But this can depend on where you are. For example, if you are in a noisy place like the subway, you might turn up your music too loud without realizing it. Later, when you listen to it at the same volume in a quiet place, you alight feel uncomfortable
The "safe level" for most sound is below 80 dB for up to 40 hours a week. A level of 80 dB is about equal to (相当于) the noise of a subway.
Here is some advice on safe listening. Over-the-ear headphones (头戴式耳机) are better than in-ear ones. They do a better job of stopping outside noise, so you can listen at a lower volume. Don't listen to loud music on your headphones for a long time. Follow the 60:60 rule: listen to music at 60 percent of your headphones' maximum volume for no more than 60 minutes a day.
71. It is safe to listen to sounds that are louder than 100 dB for 15 minutes
72. Listening to loud noise for a long time can cause some hair cells in the inner ear to die.
73. From the fourth paragraph, we know people don't always realize how loud their music is.
74. In-ear headphones are better than over-the-eat ones because they can stop more outside noise.
75. This article mainly tells us why ears are an important part of our bodies.
73. A 74. B
75. B
根据第一段t is not safe to listen to sounds that are louder than 85 dB (分贝) for eight hours or 100 dB for 15 minutes.
However, listening to loud noise for a long time can make these cells work too hard and cause some of them to die.
For example, if you are in a noisy place like the subway, you might turn up your music too loud without realizing it.
根据原文Over-the-ear headphones (头戴式耳机) are better than in-ear ones. They do a better job of stopping outside noise,可知头戴式耳麦比耳麦好,它们在阻止外界噪音方面做得更好。
(D)
Marathon pacers (马拉松配速员), sometimes also called “rabbits”, are usually great runners. There are usually 1.[bɪ’twiːn]10 and 15 pacers in a marathon. 2.(A)Each of them leads a different group. They run at a set pace in their projected (预定的) time. They usually hold a sign or a balloon with the time on it to help the runners finish the race.
There are many reasons to run with a pacer. First of all, they can help you run at the right pace. If you go out too fast in the first half of the race, you can run out of energy quickly and slow down in the second half. Similarly, if you set out to run a slower first half and a faster second half, it can be hard to follow the pace in the end 3.b________ you’re very tired then. With a pacer, you don’t have to think too hard about your pace. 4.(B)keep up with, your, just, pacer, need to, you.
Marathon pacers do more than that. They can encourage you to keep going when you go through the hardest part of the race. In fact, many marathon runners bring out the best in them by following a pacer.
You must have experience in running marathons and be able to pace a race correctly.
76. 根据读音完成单词________
________________ lead a different group.
________ you give someone confidence, for example, by letting them know what they are doing is good.
81. In the third paragraph, what does the underlined word “them” refer to?
________________
________________
76. between
77. They each
78. because##ecause
79. You just need to keep up with your pacer
80. encourage
81. marathon runners
82. It’s not easy to become a marathon pacer.
故填between。
根据“Each of them leads a different group.”可知,each of them“他们中每个人,含义等于“they each”,“they each”为复数概念,符合题干动词为lead的要求。故填They each。
根据“...it can be hard to follow the pace in the end...you’re very tired then.” 故填because。
分析所给单词,You你,作主语;just只,作状语;need需要,作系谓语;to keep up with your pacer赶上你的配速员,作宾语。故填You just need to keep up with your pacer.
根据“They can encourage you to keep going when you go through the hardest part of the race.”和“you give someone confidence, for example, by letting them know what they are doing is good.”
根据“many marathon runners bring out the best in them by following a pacer.”
It’s not easy to;变成马拉松配速员:become a marathon pacer。结合语境可知,此题运用了“it is+形容词+to do sth.”句式。故填It’s not easy to become a marathon pacer.
(E)
One day, my friend Cora and I walked down our street. We saw a sign that had a photo and the words, “Please call Sally at 555-0505 if you find my cat.”. Cora said sadly, “Sally is our neighbor. She just got a new cat, and her pet is missing. I wish we could do something. But it’s difficult for us to find the cat.” I said, “Let’s ask our neighbors to help look for Boots.”
We asked my dad to help with our neighborhood search plan. First, we went and talked to Sally. Sally told us what happened. “I was careless and I left the back door open. Boots ran out. I haven’t seen him since.”
“Don’t worry,” I said. “We have a plan to help. Come with us.” We all went to Mrs. Lowe’s house. We told her our plan. Mrs. Lowe said, “It’s very thoughtful of you to help Sally. I’ll be happy to look for Boots.” She joined our group. So did all the other neighbors. Dad made a search plan. Then we all started looking for it around our neighborhood carefully.
Cora and I called loudly, “Boots!” Then we heard a soft mewing(喵喵) sound. There was Boots under a bush(灌木丛). I held out my hand and softly called Boots’ name. He came right to me and I picked him up. Then Cora and I went to Sally’s home. Sally was very thankful that we found Boots. She hugged her cat tightly(紧紧地). She said, “The neighborhood search plan worked. Thank you, everyone!”

75. This article mainly tells us why ears are an important part of our bodies.
