The Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 has taken theaters by storm both in China and worldwide since its release on January 29. Yet for Lyu Yanting, the voice behind the main character Nezha, the film’s success was unimaginable when she first took on the role. “I saw it as just another dubbing (配音) project,” Lyu recalled.
As she explored Nezha’s lines and story, she realized that this adaptation offered a fresh take on the legendary character. Nezha’s origins trace back to the Tang Dynasty, when he was first pictured as a heavenly guardian. Over the centuries, his image evolved through cultural reinterpretations — transforming into a rebellious (叛逆的) figure who fights against fate and authority, fights for his beliefs and loved ones, and grows into a powerful warrior by overcoming hardship.
Lyu found herself deeply resonating with this modern version of Nezha, particularly his determination, sincerity, and resilience. This connection made her performance feel authentic, as if she were drawing on real emotions rather than simply acting.
However, finding a role that is naturally consistent with oneself is rare. This is why Lyu believes that professional voice actors must constantly refine their skills, always preparing for any character that may come their way.
“To be a good voice actor, you need to empathize, imagine, and truly understand the character, which requires both life experience and the ability to see things from different perspectives,” Lyu said, “Only by combining personal experience with professional training can you bring different characters to life.”
To achieve that, immersion is key. Before voicing Nezha, Lyu spent years in being alone to improve her skills. “I was fascinated by anything related to vocal expression — I explored and analyzed it to see how it could enhance my future work. That was simply my passion,” she said.
Thanks to those years, Lyu was well-prepared when she landed the role of Nezha. Although she describes her newfound recognition as “a pure stroke of luck”, it was much more than that.
18.What did Lyu Yanting think of her role as Nezha at first?
A.She initially expected the success of the role.
B.She believed the role was too challenging for her.
C.She initially underestimated the importance of the role.
D.She thought the role was not suitable for her personality.
19.Which is closest in meaning to “resilience” in paragraph 3?
A.Physical strength. B.Tendency to avoid challenges.
C.Artistic creativity. D.Ability to recover from difficulties.
20.According to the passage, which best describes Lyu Yanting?
A.Dedicated and self-motivated. B.Easy going and devoted.
C.Ambitious and competitive. D.Empathetic and considerate.
21.What mainly contributes to Lyu’s success in voicing Nezha?
A.Her good preparation and passion. B.Her determination to voice Nezha.
C.The popularity of the film Ne Zha 2. D.The years of being alone to voice Nezha.
For many people, the taste of coffee is rather common, while for others it seems sour or bitter . But for hearing-impaired barista Zeng Zheng and his workmates in Chongqing, coffee means a rich and pleasing variety of taste experiences.
There is even some variety in the different forms of sweetness, according to Zeng, with some hitting the palate from the start, while others firstly seem bitter but finally turn into sweetness. It seems to reflect Zeng’s life experience. Together with several hearing-impaired workmates, he works at a coffee shop named Yijiao Cafe, which located at Songshan General Hospital. It is one of two branches with the same name, which translates as One Corner Cafe. The name was inspired by a famous children’s book called The Missing Piece by Shel Silverstein. The spirit of the story is that one can find happiness by accepting one’s personal imperfections.
Zhu Jiayun , head of a charity for people with disabilities in Chongqing’s Yuzhong district, founded the brand in May 2022. In September 2022, Yijiao held a free barista training program for the hearing -impaired. The program interested Zeng and others who used to make a living by doing low-skilled jobs. Four out of the 15 people were then chosen to work at the coffee shop by Zhu after a strict examination. In the same month, the first Yijiao Café shop, located in Yuzhong district, opened its doors.
In February 2023, the second coffee shop opened in Songshan General Hospital. In just a month, the new coffee shop sold more than 3,700 cups of coffee. For every 10 yuan made by the store, 0.1 yuan is given away to others in need, said Zhu.
Zhu plans to open three more coffee shops in 2023. “I hope that Yijiao Cafe is more than just a coffee shop, but can also serve as a model space, where the healthy people and disabled people can make coffee, drink coffee, or live and work together,” Zhu said.
22.What does the underlined phrase “hitting the palate” mean?
A.Tasting good. B.Feeling proud
C.Refusing to drink D.Providing help
23.What does The Missing Piece tell readers?
A.Stop worrying about your life. B.Try your best to achieve your dream.
C.Don’t feel bad about being not perfect. D.Don’t give up finding happiness.
24.Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A.Fifteen hearing -impaired people became workers at Yijiao Cafe.
B.Zhu gave away all he made to the people who need help.
C.People may see more Yijiao Cafe shops in the future.
D.Yijiao Cafe is a good place for healthy people to visit.
25.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.The New Life of Disabled People B.A Silent Coffee Cafe
C.Giving Is Receiving D.Variety of Taste Experiences
When it comes to the greatest inventions of the world, China’s name is sure to be mentioned several times. There are hundreds of things which were invented by the Chinese.Alcohol
Shocked? I was because when they said alcohol I thought about either the US or the UK. China had never crossed my mind. The UNESCO has recognized the Chinese art of paper cutting on its Intangible Cultural Heritage List. But paper cutting is at the risk of disappearing.
Voyo Woo, a Chinese immigrant, who loves paper cutting, worked hard to celebrate the ancient art form. With a keen interest in paper cutting, Ms Woo held a paper cutting exhibition at a shopping center near Washington. “I really love it. I get so much fun by doing it. So I’m just kind of hoping that more people will learn about this art which is about to disappear. I think it’s time to take action. So I held it.”
Voyo Woo began to study paper cutting when she was a 14-year-old girl in southeastern China. Voyo Woo’s teacher gave her extra training after class because Voyo Woo discovered a special love for it. Later, her beautiful paper cuttings won second prize in a national painting competition. “Paper is the easiest material that you can find. You can just turn it into beautiful art. I think it is like magic to me.”
Ms Woo came to the US after she finished college in 2008. She has been invited to show the art at a wide collection of events. She also has shown her skill and works at famous museums like the Smithsonian Institution’s Freer and Sackler art galleries in Washington.
“I saw so many people coming to me and asking me. They were amazed. I think it’s important to introduce the art form to American people or anyone who is interested.”
Ms Woo placed examples of her art around her as she displayed paper cutting at the shopping center. Ann Russ, a shopper, was attracted by the nature of the work. She said it put her at ease. “I like to know about Chinese art, specifically because it’s almost relaxing to put that much effort into it,” Russ said.

We need to be responsible for our environment. Being a frugal consumer (节俭的消费者) is one way to help. 32
Use It Up.
You can use things up instead of wasting them. Squeeze (挤) that last bit of toothpaste out of the tube. 33 Don’t throw away any bits of the biscuit at the bottom of the box.
Wear It Out.
You do not always need to have new things. Suppose your sneakers (运动鞋) have broken laces (鞋带) , but they still fit you. Repair them and wear them longer. You don’t have to have the latest iPhone until the old one doesn’t work any more. Then you can get a new one. 34
Make It Do.
When something you want is not on hand, look for something else that you already have to take its place. Suppose you are packing your lunch for tomorrow and want a butter sandwich. You are out of butter. Have a cheese sandwich instead so you can use all of the cheese. Learn to fix broken toys instead of just throwing them away. 35
36
Think about all those things that you would like to have. Do you really need them? How long will you really play with that new toy you saw on TV? Making the things that we want uses up our world’s resources (资源). And, getting rid of the things we don’t want any more takes up even more resources and space.
A.Do without it.
B.Throw it away.
C.What exactly does that mean?
D.Do you know what to consume?
E.Use the last little piece of soap.

Everyone in my drama class saw the paper in my hands shaking when I stood up to try out for a lead role in the yearly school Thanksgiving play. I was there because the teacher wanted everyone to try out for a part.
Being shy and not confident, I began nervously reading the part for the main character, Star. She had no parents. Feeling so sorry for her, I finished reading.
Later when reading the name list, the teacher looked at me and announced, “Patty, you play Star. Come and get your script (剧本).”I was shocked. Jim, an excellent boy, was playing the other lead.To learn my lines, I practiced every day and finally memorized them. I became more confident and happier.
Then we started practising acting. Jim played the character, a Scrooge (吝啬鬼), who is unwilling to put a candle in his window so that the light will show passers-by the slippery ice on the path below. On the Thanksgiving day, Star comes along, falls on the ice and gets injured.
Finally feeling bad, the Scrooge helps her up. To thank him, Star kisses his hand.
One day, before our drama class started, I saw a terrible drawing of me on the blackboard with words: Falling Star. I was laughed at by someone.
The teacher asked,“Who did this?” Nobody knew. We started rehearsing (排练), but my heart wasn’t in it. The teacher told me not to care about the silly trick; it wouldn’t happen again. But I was sad and anxious, wanting to quit. Finally I moved on and continually worked hard for the play.
Soon it was the day before the show. It was time for the dress rehearsal. I was excited. Everything went smoothly at the dress rehearsal until the scene where I slipped on the ice and the Scrooge helped me up.
When I kissed his hand, a terrible noise and laughter sounded from behind the set. I quickly left the stage and hurried into an empty room. With tears, I said, “I can’t do it. Please get someone else!”

根据第一段“Yet for Lyu Yanting, the voice behind the main character Nezha, the film’s success was unimaginable when she first took on the role. ‘I saw it as just another dubbing (配音) project,’ Lyu recalled.(然而,对于主角哪吒的配音演员吕艳婷来说,当她第一次接受这个角色时,这部电影的成功是难以想象的。‘我把它仅仅看作是另一个配音项目,’吕艳婷回忆道)”可知,吕艳婷最初只是把为哪吒配音当作一个普通的配音项目。由此可知,她最初低估了这个角色的重要性。故选C。
19.词句猜测题。根据第二段“Over the centuries, his image evolved through cultural reinterpretations — transforming into a rebellious (叛逆的) figure who fights against fate and authority, fights for his beliefs and loved ones, and grows into a powerful warrior by overcoming hardship.(几个世纪以来,他的形象通过文化的重新诠释而演变 —— 变成了一个叛逆的人物,他与命运和权威作斗争,为自己的信仰和所爱的人而战,并通过克服困难成长为一名强大的战士)”以及第三段“Lyu found herself deeply resonating with this modern version of Nezha, particularly his determination, sincerity, and resilience. This connection made her performance feel authentic, as if she were drawing on real emotions rather than simply acting.(吕艳婷发现自己与这个现代版的哪吒产生了深深的共鸣,尤其是他的决心、真诚和 resilience。这种联系让她的表演显得真实,仿佛她是在利用真实的情感,而不仅仅是在表演)”可知,哪吒是一个克服困难成长起来的角色。由此可知,划线词resilience在这里应该是指“从困难中恢复的能力”。故选D。
20.推理判断题。根据第五段“‘To be a good voice actor, you need to empathize, imagine, and truly understand the character, which requires both life experience and the ability to see things from different perspectives,’ Lyu said, ‘Only by combining personal experience with professional training can you bring different characters to life.’(‘要成为一名优秀的配音演员,你需要有同理心、想象力,并真正理解角色,这既需要生活经验,也需要从不同角度看待事物的能力,’吕艳婷说,‘只有将个人经验与专业训练相结合,你才能让不同的角色栩栩如生。’)”以及第六段“To achieve that, immersion is key. Before voicing Nezha, Lyu spent years in being alone to improve her skills. ‘I was fascinated by anything related to vocal expression—I explored and analyzed it to see how it could enhance my future work. That was simply my passion,’ she said.(为了实现这一点,沉浸其中是关键。在为哪吒配音之前,吕艳婷花了很多年独自提升自己的技能。‘我对任何与声音表达有关的东西都很着迷-----我探索并分析它,看看它如何能提升我未来的工作。这只是我的热情所在,’ 她说)”可知,吕艳婷对配音工作有自己的理解,并且为了提升自己的技能,花费了很多年独自努力。由此推知,她是专注且有自我驱动力的。故选A。
根据第六段“To achieve that, immersion is key. Although she describes her newfound recognition as ‘a pure stroke of luck’, it was much more than that.(多亏了那些年,吕艳婷在得到哪吒这个角色时已经做好了充分的准备。尽管她把自己新获得的认可描述为‘纯粹是运气好’,但事实远不止如此)”可知,吕艳婷为了配音花费多年提升技能,对配音充满热情,并且为这个角色做好了充分准备。由此推知,这些是她成功为哪吒配音的主要原因。故选A。

根据划线单词下文“while others firstly seem bitter but finally turn into sweetness(有些一开始看起来很苦,但最后却变成了甜味。)” 选项A“Tasting good. (尝起来不错)”;选项B“Feeling proud (感到自豪)”;选项C“Refusing to drink (拒绝喝)”;选项D“Providing help (提供帮助)”。故选A。
根据文章第二段“The name was inspired by a famous children’s book called The Missing Piece by Shel Silverstein. The spirit of the story is that one can find happiness by accepting one’s personal imperfections.(这个名字的灵感来自于谢尔·西尔弗斯坦的一本著名的儿童读物《失落的一角》。这个故事的精神是,一个人可以通过接受自己的不完美来找到幸福。)”可知,《失落的一角》旨在告诉读者一个人可以通过接受自己的不完美来找到幸福,所以不要为自己的不完美而难过。故选C。
24.细节理解题。根据文章第四段“In February 2023, the second coffee shop opened in Songshan General Hospital. In just a month, the new coffee shop sold more than 3,700 cups of coffee. For every 10 yuan made by the store, 0.1 yuan is given away to others in need, said Zhu.(2023年2月,第二家咖啡店在松山总医院开业。仅仅一个月的时间,这家新咖啡店就卖出了3700多杯咖啡。他说,商店每赚10元钱,就会有0.1元捐给有需要的人。)”以及文章最后一段“Zhu plans to open three more coffee shops in 2023.(朱计划在2023年再开三家咖啡店。)”
根据文章第一段“For many people, the taste of coffee is rather common, while for others it seems sour or bitter . But for hearing-impaired barista Zeng Zheng and his workmates in Chongqing, coffee means a rich and pleasing variety of taste experiences.(对许多人来说,咖啡的味道很普通,而对另一些人来说,它似乎是酸的或苦的。但对于听力受损的重庆咖啡师曾峥和他的同事们来说,咖啡意味着丰富而愉悦的各种口味体验。)”以及全文内容可知,文章主要介绍了听力障碍者咖啡师曾峥和他的同事们在咖啡店的工作,以及咖啡店的目标和意义,因此最好的标题是“A Silent Coffee Cafe (一个无声的咖啡馆)”。故选B。

31.推理判断题。根据第四段中的She also has shown her skill and works at famous museums like the Smithsonian Institution’s Freer and Sackler art galleries in Washington.
The underlined word “keen” in paragraph 2 probably means ,要求猜测第二段中划线词keen的意思,根据划线词前的句子Voyo Woo, a Chinese immigrant, who loves paper cutting, worked hard to celebrate the ancient art form.
32.C 33.E 34.G 35.F 36.A
32.由下文的小标题“Use It Up. Wear It Out. Make It Do. Do without it.”
33.由“Squeeze (挤) that last bit of toothpaste out of the tube. 2 Don’t throw away any bits of the biscuit at the bottom of the box.”
34.由“ Suppose your sneakers (运动鞋) have broken laces (鞋带) , but they still fit you. Repair them and wear them longer. You don’t have to have the latest iPhone until the old one doesn’t work any more.”
35.由“Suppose you are packing your lunch for tomorrow and want a butter sandwich. You are out of butter. Have a cheese sandwich instead so you can use all of the cheese. Learn to fix broken toys instead of just throwing them away”可知,假设你正在打包明天的午餐,想要一个黄油三明治。
36.由“Think about all those things that you would like to have. Do you really need them? How long will you really play with that new toy you saw on TV? Making the things that we want uses up our world’s resources (资源). And, getting rid of the things we don’t want any more takes up even more resources and space.”

And he apologized to me. Encouraged by my friendly teacher and so many kind classmates, I went back onstage and finished the scene with no further interruptions.
The following Thanksgiving day, we were ready for the play. Throughout the performance, we could hear laughter from the audience from time to time.
