It was my first day as a new editor. I stepped into the office with a racing heart, but huge pressure soon washed over me. The work was far more challenging than I had expected. There were charts to design, multi-language tasks to deal with, and many unfamiliar skills to master. I stared at the computer screen, feeling helpless. I doubted whether I could fit in with this job or live up to the team’s expectations. Dark thoughts filled my mind, and I almost wanted to give up right away.
During the lunch break, I could not focus on anything. I walked out of the office building quickly, hoping a cup of coffee could calm my nervous mood. The warm spring wind blew gently, but I still felt heavy inside. I headed towards a nearby coffee shop, lost in my worries.
Suddenly, I noticed a blind man standing on the roadside. He wore a small camera on his head and was recording videos carefully. I was quite surprised and stopped to watch him. He moved step by step slowly, but his voice sounded firm and positive. Sensing my presence, he smiled and said softly, “Do you find it hard to believe?”
I admitted in shock. “You know, when I first lost my sight, I wanted to give up. Everything felt too hard. But then I told myself to take one small step every time. Now I make videos. Who would have thought?” the man said. “Everyone feels nervous and unskilled at the beginning, but don’t be afraid of the unknown. Every difficult start is a chance to grow.”
His words touched my heart deeply. I realized that my worries were just normal feelings of a new starter. I didn’t need to be perfect on the first day. With belief in myself, I could learn and improve little by little. I thanked the blind man warmly and walked back to the office with a light heart. I held my coffee tightly, full of courage to face the challenges ahead.

An injured mother manatee (海牛) and her baby were rescued this week from a river in Florida and taken to SeaWorld Orlando for rehabilitation, some officials said. Drone (无人机) pilots helped the rescuers by giving them a view from above, guiding their boat toward the manatees on Wednesday. Then they documented the animals being pulled from the Orange River near Fort Myers.
A video shared by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office shows the boat carrying the workers from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission first makes a wide circle around the manatees to trap them in what looks like a fishing net. In the end, about six people manage to pull the struggling manatees onto the boat, carefully putting the mother and baby in the back and onto the slippery deck (甲板).
The video shows at least one manatee later being offloaded in a sling at a boat ramp. The sheriff’s marine unit and advanced technology support unit assisted. Officials didn’t have details about how the mother manatee was injured or their current conditions.
The mother and its baby are among at least six manatees rescued in the county since February 19th because of cold stress, watercraft injuries and malnutrition. Statewide, at least 24 other manatees have been rescued this year, and more than 20 rehabilitated manatees have been released through the Manatee Rescue and Rehabilitation Partnership.
The manatee mother and baby remained under close observation on Friday at SeaWorld Orlando, where the team was focused on stabilizing the mother with supportive care, including hydration, Public Relations and Community Relations Director Stephanie Bechara said in an email to The Associated Press. “Both were receiving antibiotics (抗生素) to help treat and prevent any infection,” Bechara said, “and it was still very early in the rehabilitation process.”
8. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A. The daily duties of the workers. B. The causes of the manatees’ injuries.
C. The process of rescuing the manatees. D. The rescue operations conducted by drones.
9. What does paragraph 4 highlight?
A. It’s easy to take care of manatees. B. The local manatees face many threats.
C. There are many manatees in Orlando. D. 24 manatees were saved in the county.
10. What do Bechara’s words mean in the last paragraph?
A. There is still a lot to do to save the manatees.
B. The manatee baby does not need treatment.
C. The manatee mother will be released soon.
D. Manatees need antibiotics to prevent infections.
11. Where can you read the text?
A. In a research paper. B. In a rescue guide. C. In a news report. D. In an activity notice.

Indonesia will ban social media for children under 16, an official of Communication and Digital Affairs said on Friday. In a statement to media, the official said that she just signed a government regulation that will mean children under the age of 16 can no longer have accounts on high-risk digital platforms.
“The basis is clear. Our children face increasingly real threats. From cyberbullying, online fraud, and most importantly addiction. The government is here so that parents no longer have to fight alone against the giant of algorithms (算法),” the official said. She added that the government is taking this step as the best effort in the face of the digital emergency to regain control over children’s futures.
“We realize that the implementation of this regulation may cause some discomfort at first. Children may complain and parents may be confused about how to respond to their children’s complaints,” the official said.
Residents and parents in Jakarta welcomed the government’s restrictions (限制) on access to social media, especially because children have access (机会) to social media through mobile phones. “I think that it has been very worrying for minors, especially children. Because they have too much freedom with photos, videos and everything. Some education is educational, but some is misleading. So we really need to sort through social media again,” said Marianah, a resident in Jakarta. Others suggested that the government should also block other harmful websites.
Indonesia will be the first country in Southeast Asia to restrict the access of children social media. The restriction of social media access for teens began in Australia in December 2025. Social media companies have revoked access to about 4.7 million accounts identified as belonging to children in Australia. Other countries, including Spain, France, and the UK are also taking or are considering measures to restrict minors’ access to social media amid growing concern that children are being harmed by exposure to unregulated social media content.
12. Why did Indonesia carry out the regulation?
A. To limit adults’ phone use. B. To follow other countries’ example.
C. To protect children from online harm. D. To reduce the number of social media users.
13. What attitude does Marianah have to the regulation?
A. Negative. B. Doubtful. C. Unclear. D. Supportive.
14. What does the underlined word “revoked” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Created. B. Cancelled. C. Missed. D. Recorded.
15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Indonesia will limit children’s use of social media
B. There are many harmful contents worrying the world
C. Many countries stop children from using social media
D. Parents in Indonesia fight against algorithms together

My brother, six years old, and I were driving home one evening. As we wanted to get home as soon as possible, we chose a shorter country road. The road I was driving on really needed repairing, so I drove slowly. Suddenly, I heard a loud noise, and then I came to a stop, and soon, I got a flat tire I quickly put up warning signs on both the front and the back of the car.
At first, I called my insurance agent because they had a road rescue service. But what I didn’t know was that this was only available during the working hours from Monday to Friday. So I tried calling the insurance company again. But that didn’t work either. I was transferred to various automatic answering systems and couldn’t reach anyone in person.
Worse still, my brother suddenly lost his temper. He wanted me to keep driving, but I had to explain to him why I couldn’t do that. I tried to calm him down and figure out what to do.
Just as I was trying to search for information about various 24-hour road rescue service companies on the mobile app, a passing car stopped by the roadside. A young man and a woman got out of the car. The man introduced himself as Louis, and the woman beside him was his wife, Maria. He explained that they saw my warning signs and knew someone needed help. When I told him my tire was flat, he immediately asked if there was a spare tire in the trunk. “I have a spare tire, but no jack (千斤顶),” I said. I also admitted that I didn’t know how to change the tire. “It’s okay. I have a jack at home. My house is just a few minutes’ drive away in the nearby village. It’s about a 15-minute ride. Please wait patiently. I’m going back to get the jack now,” Louis replied, and then he turned to walk towards his car.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

C 13. D 14. B 15. A
根据第二段““The basis is clear. Our children face increasingly real threats. From cyberbullying, online fraud, and most importantly addiction. The government is here so that parents no longer have to fight alone against the giant of algorithms (算法),” the official said. She added that the government is taking this step as the best effort in the face of the digital emergency to regain control over children’s futures.(“原因很明确。我们的孩子正面临着越来越多切实的威胁。包括网络欺凌、网络诈骗,而最重要的是网络成瘾。政府的存在就是为了让家长们不再需要独自对抗算法这个庞然大物。”这位官员说道。她补充道,政府采取这一举措是出于应对数字危机的迫切需要,旨在重新掌控孩子们的未来)”可知,印度尼西亚实施该法规的目的是保护儿童免受网络伤害。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段““I think that it has been very worrying for minors, especially children. Because they have too much freedom with photos, videos and everything. Some education is educational, but some is misleading. So we really need to sort through social media again,” said Marianah, a resident in Jakarta. Others suggested that the government should also block other harmful websites.(“我认为这对未成年人来说是个很大的困扰,尤其是对儿童而言。因为他们可以随意查看照片、视频以及各类内容。有些教育内容是有益的,但有些则具有误导性。所以我们确实需要再次对社交媒体进行整顿。”雅加达居民玛丽亚娜说道。还有人建议政府也应该屏蔽其他有害网站)”可知,她对这个法规持支持的态度。
【14题详解】
词句猜测题。根据最后一段“The restriction of social media access for teens began in Australia in December 2025. Social media companies have revoked access to about 4.7 million accounts identified as belonging to children in Australia.(澳大利亚已于2025年12月开始对青少年的社交媒体使用进行限制。社交媒体公司已revoked约470万个被认定为属于儿童的账号的访问权限,这些账号位于澳大利亚)”可知,澳大利亚自2025年12月开始限制青少年使用社交媒体,因此社交媒体公司撤销了约470万个属于儿童的账户访问权限。因此revoked在此处意为“取消;废除”。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“Indonesia will ban social media for children under 16, an official of Communication and Digital Affairs said on Friday. In a statement to media, the official said that she just signed a government regulation that will mean children under the age of 16 can no longer have accounts on high-risk digital platforms.(印度尼西亚通信与数字事务部的一位官员周五表示,该国将禁止16岁以下儿童使用社交媒体。

固定搭配refuse to do sth.

Last week, our school held a traditional handicraft activity to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, which attracted all students to participate.
During the activity, teachers taught us how to make sachets and wrap zongzi. We filled sachets with Chinese mugwort, and followed the teachers’ guidance carefully to learn the skills of wrapping zongzi. Everyone was busy and enjoyed the process, exchanging ideas with each other happily.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Just then, Maria sensed my brother’s unease (不安). She gently approached him. She said softly, “Hey, is something wrong?” She knelt by the window and brought some potentially useful items. She took out a chocolate bar and a small dinosaur toy from her jacket pocket. My brother’s eyes widened, and his breathing gradually steadied as he accepted these unexpected gifts. Then Maria sat beside my brother, chatting about his favorite basketball game and sharing simple stories to relax him completely.
When my brother and Maria were getting along so well, Louis returned with a jack. By the light of the flashlight, Louis patiently explained each step. In the darkness, my brother’s laughter echoed, while Maria asked him to name every kind of dinosaur he knew. A few minutes later, the spare tire was installed. When I tried to pay them, Louis just smiled. “If it were you, you would also help for free, wouldn’t you?” he said. That night, two strangers made me realize that even in the darkest moments, kindness would still come to our rescue.
