So first of all, clothing, since it's still quite cold in march, you'll definitely need to wear a pair of good waterproof boots, make sure you don't come in your sports shoes as those will get wet very easily. Waterproof trousers and a good jacket are also advisable. Now i'm sure you remember that you don't need to bring protective gloves and big plastic bags as the school will provide you with those at the beach before we start cleaning during the event, there will be water and introduce available if you're thirsty. But if you think you might feel hungry while we're actually collecting the rubbish, then you'd Better bring some snacks with you, as there won't be any food at that time. After we finish, however, a light lunch will be offered, and we'll gather together and have a pleasant picnic on the beach. US national parks aren’t dogfriendly; while we knew this was the case for some parks, we had heard it varied from park to park. My husband, Mitchell, and I are always on the lookout for dogfriendly options at each national park. We have been to quite a few national parks now and in general, the rule is that dogs must always be on a leash (用狗绳拴住) and stay on paved (铺好) path areas, no hikıng trails (小径).
Yosemite was probably one of the more dogfriendly national parks we’ve been to as there was a longer paved bike trail in addition to a few shorter paved pathways that were dogfriendly. However, the hiking trails were still a no-go. For this reason, we haven’t spent as much time in Yosemite National Park and instead have enjoyed the state parks and national forest that surrounds them.
Dogfriendliness aside, we have not for a second regretted visiting a national park and Yosemite was no exception. You must visit Yosemite if you ever get the chance. There were truly beautiful mountains and even though Mitchell and I grew up near the Rockies we were completely impressed by this new landscape. We were fortunate to visit in the fall which had the added benefit of the beautiful colors and fewer people! The landscape easily looked like it could be a painting.
After Yosemite, we had originally planned to make our way to Death Valley. After some discussion, we decided to take a little detour (绕道) and visit Lake Tahoe. The lake was beautiful and there seemed to be signs everywhere for ski hills and endless outdoor activities. We ended up staying for two days at the Zephyr Cove RV Park and Resort. We were able to wash clothes on site, shower and even use their WiFi to catch up on work. We had ended up traveling farther than we planned, and it was nice to recharge, get refreshed and stay in one place a little longer. We’ve come to the conclusion that we’re still working on slowing down.
24. What is the rule for dogs in US national parks?
A. They are limited to paved areas.
B. They are permitted to be off-leash.
C. They are allowed on all trails in the parks.
D. They are allowed on hiking areas in many parks.
25. Why did the couple stay in Yosemite National Park for a short time?
A. They had been there many times.
B. They wanted to hike with their dog.
C. They showed preference to state parks.
D. They needed to travel farther than planned.
26. Why does the author mention the Rockies?
A. To express her desire to visit the Rockies.
B. To describe the landscape of her hometown.
C. To stress the breathtaking beauty of Yosemite.
D. To show the differences between the Rockies and Yosemite.
27. What can be inferred about the couple from the last paragraph?
A. They got lost while traveling to their destination.
B. They visited Lake Tahoe just out of convenience.
C. They didn’t enjoy traveling because of work stress.
D. They felt relaxed and energetic after slowing down.

Every time AI creates an e-mail or an image, the planet pays for it. Making two images can consume as much energy as charging a smartphone. By 2027, the global AI industry could annually consume as much electricity as the Netherlands. And a new study identifies another concern: generative AI applications alone could add 1.2 million to five million tons of this harmful trash to the planet by 2030.
Such a contribution would add to the tens of millions of tons of electronic products the globe abandons annually. Cell phones, computers and other digital products often contain mercury (汞), lead or other poisons. When improperly disposed of (处理), they can pollute air, water and soil. In 2022, about 78% of the world’s e-waste end up in landfills or at unofficial recycling sites, where laborers risk their health to clean up rare metals.
The AI boom (热潮) rapidly consumes data storage devices and high-performance components, which are usually replaced when new versions (版本) are available. To calculate the e-waste contribution, researchers examined hardware use, lifespan, and the industry’s growth rate. Their prediction could change based on various factors.
This study’s biggest value comes from its attention to AI’s broad environmental impacts, says Shaolei Ren, a researcher at the University of California, Riverside. “We might want AI companies to slow down a bit,” he says.
Few countries mandate (强制) the proper disposal of e-waste, and those that do often fail to carry out their existing laws on it. Twenty-five U. S. states have e-waste management policies, but there is no federal law that requires electronics recycling.
Thankfully, some companies declare to be taking independent action. Microsoft and Google have promised to reach net zero waste and net zero emissions respectively by 2030. They have many options to limit e-waste. It’s possible to extract more life out of servers, for instance, through regular maintenance and updates or by putting worn-out devices into less-demanding applications. These strategies are vital to reduce e-waste and benefit society, the study authors say.
28. What can be inferred from Paragraph 1?
A. The Netherlands consumes too much electricity.
B. The disadvantages of AI outweigh the advantages.
C. The environmental impact of AI is extremely large and worrying.
D. AI’s energy-related issues largely result from image-making.
29. What is Shaolei Ren’s attitude toward the growth of AI companies?
A. Critical. B. Positive. C. Cautious. D. Distant.
30. What is the key to reducing e-waste?
A. Adjusting AI application frequency. B. Stressing smartphone recycling.
C. Banning the overuse of AI completely. D. Lengthening the lifespan of devices.
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. AI May Worsen the E-waste Crisis B. E-waste Calls for Proper Use of AI
C. E-waste Problems Mostly Blame on AI D. AI and E-waste Always Go Hand in Hand
D
A prehistoric fossil uncovered in Antarctica could be the oldest modern bird ever found and an ancestor of today’s ducks and geese. The discovery could help scientists continue piecing together the long evolutionary history of birds.
The nearly complete bird skull is about 69 million years old. Called Vegavis iaai, it belongs to a species of waterfowl (birds that include ducks, geese, and swans) that lived at the same time as dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex. Only the duck-like species survived when all dinosaurs that were not avian died out about 66 million years ago.
The mystery of Vegavis iaai began in 1993, when researchers discovered the fossil of a bird on Vega Island in Antarctica. It did not have a skull, which made it difficult to fully identify. Julia Clarke, a paleontologist (scientist who studies fossils) at the University of Texas, Austin, was one of the scientists who found the first fossil. She thought it was related to modern waterfowl but couldn’t prove that without the creature’s skull.
Then, in 2011, researchers found a skull on Vega Island. They recently confirmed that it was a match for the skeleton from 1993, which provided an opportunity to determine whether Vegavis iaai was connected to today’s ducks and geese.
The researchers created a digital 3D model of the Vegavis iaai skull, which showed that its brain was shaped like the brains of today’s ducks and geese. However, it had a long, narrow beak and powerful jaw muscles that made it different from waterfowl and more like modern birds that dive and catch fish.
Despite the range of characteristics, the study’s authors believe Vegavis iaai is related to today’s waterfowl. “It’s exactly the kind of thing we need to help fill in an evolutionary gap” Christopher Torres, a co-author of the new study, told The New York Times. Other scientists are not convinced, however, and argue that more fossils of the species are needed to fully confirm the findings.
Torres and his colleagues understand that there is more work to be done to support their findings and that their conclusions are controversial. “Few birds are as likely to start as many arguments among paleontologists as Vegavis.” Torres told Science News.
32. What does the underlined word “avian” in Paragraph 2 most likely mean?
A. Related to water. B. Related to birds. C. Similar to dinosaurs. D. Related to fish.
33. Why is the discovery in 1993 mentioned?
A. To explain the challenges in confirming the identity of Vegavis iaai.
B. To describe the process of fossil preservation in Antarctica.
C. To highlight Julia Clarke’s contributions to paleontology.
D. To introduce the final conclusion about Vegavis iaai’s evolution.
34. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?
A. The 1993 fossil included a complete skull.
B. Vegavis iaai lived only after the extinction of all dinosaurs.
C. The study’s conclusions are widely accepted by all scientists.
D. Vegavis iaai had a brain shape similar to modern fish-catching birds.
35. What will the follow-up study probably focus on?
A. Creating more 3D models of ancient bird brains.
B. Studying the impact of dinosaur extinction on waterfowl.
C. Finding more fossils of Vegavis iaai to confirm its relationship to modern birds.
D. Analyzing the differences in jaw muscles between Vegavis iaai and diving birds.

In our childhood, there were always unforgettable things happening in our life, however, some were harmful while some were beneficial, If we could learn from the experience and lessons, it would lead to future success.
My 12th birthday came at last. What a wonderful feeling it was to know that I turned twelve and that I might possibly get the thing I wanted most.
I saw my mom and dad coming towards me with a small box wrapped up (包装) with nice pink paper with flowers on it. When I removed the paper and opened the box, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had got a cell phone I ran to give my mom and dad the biggest hug ever, and said,
“You’ re welcome. We knew this was going to make you happy. But we give you this not only because you have turned twelve but also because you are doing well in school. We expect you to keep getting good grades.”
I said confidently that I would. As soon as I got to school the next morning, I was showing off my phone and asking everyone for their number. It was cool how I got so many contacts (联系人) on the first day. It felt like I didn’t even exist in that class any more. I didn’t pay much attention to the teachers because I was too busy on my phone. I texted my friends, surfed the Internet for stories or played games.
Luckily, I didn’t get caught using it. I had formed a habit of secretly enjoying my phone in class. But I was pretty sure that the teachers did notice that I stopped paying attention to them, because a week later we took a test and I failed. What’s worse, my parents had to sign the test.

So, first of all, clothing: since it’s still quite cold in March, you’ll definitely need to wear a pair of good waterproof boots. Make sure you don’t come in your sports shoes as those will get wet very easily. Waterproof trousers and a good jacket are also advisable.
Now, I’m sure you remember that you don’t need to bring protective gloves and big plastic bags, as the school will provide you with those at the beach before we start cleaning. During the event, there’ll be water and orange juice available if you’re thirsty, but if you think you might feel hungry while we’re actually collecting the rubbish, then you’d better bring some snacks with you, as there won’t be any food at that time. After we finish, however, a light lunch will be offered, and we’ll gather together and have a pleasant picnic on the beach!

A 25. B 26. C 27. D

根据第一段中“We have been to quite a few national parks now and in general, the rule is that dogs must always be on a leash and stay on paved path areas, no hiking trails. (我们现在已经去过不少国家公园了,一般来说,规定是狗必须一直拴着狗绳,并且只能待在铺好的路径区域,不能去徒步小径。)”可知,在美国国家公园里,狗通常被限制在铺好的区域内。故选A。
根据第二段中“However, the hiking trails were still a no-go. For this reason, we haven’t spent as much time in Yosemite National Park and instead have enjoyed the state parks and national forest that surrounds them. (然而,徒步小径仍然是不允许进入的。因为这个原因,我们在约塞米蒂国家公园待的时间并不长,反而享受了周围的州立公园和国家森林。)”可知,作者和丈夫没有在约塞米蒂国家公园游览很长时间是因为他们想带狗一起徒步,而约塞米蒂国家公园不允许狗进入徒步的小路。故选B。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“There were truly beautiful mountains and even though Mitchell and I grew up near the Rockies we were completely impressed by this new landscape. (那里有真正美丽的山脉,尽管米切尔和我都是在落基山脉附近长大的,但我们仍然被这片新的风景完全震撼了。)”可知,作者提到落基山脉是为了通过对比来强调约塞米蒂国家公园令人叹为观止的美景。故选C。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。 根据最后一段中“We had ended up traveling farther than we planned, and it was nice to recharge, get refreshed and stay in one place a little longer. We’ve come to the conclusion that we’re still working on slowing down. (我们最终旅行的距离比计划的要远,能够充电、恢复精力并在一个地方多待一会儿真是太好了。我们得出的结论是,我们仍然在努力放慢脚步。)”可推知,这对夫妇在放慢脚步后感到放松和精力充沛。故选D。
C
C 29. C 30. D 31. A
根据文章第一段“Every time AI creates an e-mail or an image, the planet pays for it. Making two images can consume as much energy as charging a smartphone. By 2027, the global AI industry could annually consume as much electricity as the Netherlands. And a new study identifies another concern: generative AI applications alone could add 1.2 million to five million tons of this harmful trash to the planet by 2030.(每次人工智能写了一封电子邮件或生成一张图像时,地球都要为此付出代价。生成两张图像所消耗的能量相当于给智能手机充电。到 2027 年,全球人工智能行业每年消耗的电力可能与荷兰相当。一项新的研究发现了另一个问题:仅生成式人工智能应用程序到2030年就可能给地球增加120万至500万吨这种有害垃圾)”可知,人工智能对环境的影响广泛且令人担忧,其环境足迹非常大。故选C项。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第四段中的“This study’s biggest value comes from its attention to AI’s broad environmental impacts, says Shaolei Ren, a researcher at the University of California, Riverside. “We might want AI companies to slow down a bit,” he says.(加州大学河滨分校的研究员任少雷表示,这项研究的最大价值在于它关注人工智能对环境的广泛影响。他说:“我们可能希望人工智能公司放慢一点发展速度。”)”可知,任少雷认为人工智能对环境有广泛影响,希望人工智能公司放慢发展速度,故他对人工智能公司的发展持谨慎态度。故选C项。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“Thankfully, some companies declare to be taking independent action. Microsoft and Google have promised to reach net zero waste and net zero emissions respectively by 2030. They have many options to limit e-waste. It’s possible to extract more life out of servers, for instance, through regular maintenance and updates or by putting worn-out devices into less-demanding applications. These strategies are vital to reduce e-waste and benefit society, the study authors say.(值得庆幸的是,一些公司声称正在采取独立行动。

B 33. A 34. D 35. C
根据第二段中“Called Vegavis iaai, it belongs to a species of waterfowl (birds that include ducks, geese, and swans) that lived at the same time as dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex. Only the duck-like species survived when all dinosaurs that were not avian died out about 66 million years ago.
根据第三段中“The mystery of Vegavis iaai began in 1993, when researchers discovered the fossil of a bird on Vega Island in Antarctica. It did not have a skull, which made it difficult to fully identify. (Vegavis iaai的神秘故事始于1993年,当时研究人员在南极洲的维加岛上发现了一只鸟类的化石。它没有头骨,这使得很难完全确定其身份)”可推知,1993年的发现被提及是为了解释确认Vegavis iaai身份所面临的挑战。故选A。
根据第五段中“The researchers created a digital 3D model of the Vegavis iaai skull, which showed that its brain was shaped like the brains of today’s ducks and geese. However, it had a long, narrow beak and powerful jaw muscles that made it different from waterfowl and more like modern birds that dive and catch fish. (研究人员创建了Vegavis iaai头骨的数字3D模型,该模型显示其大脑形状与今天的鸭子和鹅的大脑相似。然而,它有一个又长又窄的喙和强壮的下颌肌肉,这使它不同于水禽,而更像现代潜水捕鱼的鸟类)”可知,Vegavis iaai的大脑形状与现代捕鱼鸟类相似。故选D。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据第六段中“Other scientists are not convinced, however, and argue that more fossils of the species are needed to fully confirm the findings. (然而,其他科学家并不信服,并认为需要更多该物种的化石来完全证实这一发现)”以及最后一段中“Torres and his colleagues understand that there is more work to be done to support their findings and that their conclusions are controversial. (托雷斯和他的同事们明白,要支持他们的研究结果,还有更多工作要做,而且他们的结论存在争议)”可推知,后续研究可能会集中在寻找更多的Vegavis iaai化石,以确认它与现代鸟类的关系。故选C。
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
A robot is chatting to an elderly British man in his bedroom. ____36____ . Perhaps because of the man’s age, the robot starts asking him about his memories of the Second World War. The elderly man goes on to tell how his father was in the army, and he hasn’t seen him for years.
____37____. The behavior is the product of the Caresses project which aims to design robots that can take into account the cultural background of the person they’re talking to. The man is British, so the robot thinks he will be interested in such a topic, regardless of the man’s personal feelings.
Cultural robotics is part of a wider movement to make robotics more culturally inclusive. ____38____ For example, because the Internet is mainly in English, large language models are primarily trained on English text — with the cultural biases (偏见) existing. Similarly, the move to make robots more culturally sensitive means well, but people are worried about where it could lead, considering the diverse cultural preferences across different social groups.
Humans from different cultures react differently to robots. For example, different cultures have different expectations around personal space, and this affects how far they prefer robots to stand from them. ____39____ People are more able to understand a robot if it uses the facial expressions they are familiar with.
Culture is a complex concept, open to various explanations. ____40____ . To avoid designing robots based on stereotypes (刻板印象), we will need to be more thoughtful.
A. It has a pleasantly bright voice.
B. Does this topic really hold a person’s interest
C. However, concerns about this have been raised.
D. This practice is widely recognized across cultures.
E. Therefore, a one-size-fits-all approach is impractical.
F. Why does a robot mention a topic that may cause pain?
G. Different cultures interpret facial expressions differently too.
A 37. F 38. C 39. G 40. E
根据空前的“A robot is chatting to an elderly British man in his bedroom.(一个机器人正在一位英国老人的卧室里和他聊天。)” 故选A项。
根据空后的“The behavior is the product of the Caresses project which aims to design robots that can take into account the cultural background of the person they’re talking to. The man is British, so the robot thinks he will be interested in such a topic, regardless of the man’s personal feelings.
根据空前的“Cultural robotics is part of a wider movement to make robotics more culturally inclusive.(文化机器人学是使机器人学更具文化包容性的更广泛运动的一部分。)”以及空后的“Similarly, the move to make robots more culturally sensitive means well, but people are worried about where it could lead, considering the diverse cultural preferences across different social groups. (同样地,让机器人更具文化敏感性的举措初衷是好的,但考虑到不同社会群体存在多样化的文化偏好,人们担心这一举措可能会带来何种结果。)”可知,此处应体现人们对文化机器人学存在担忧,C选项“However, concerns about this have been raised. (然而,对此的担忧已经出现。)”与前文形成转折,引出下文人们的担忧,符合语境。故选C项。
【39题详解】
根据空前的“For example, different cultures have different expectations around personal space, and this affects how far they prefer robots to stand from them.(例如,不同的文化对个人空间有不同的期望,这会影响他们希望机器人与自己保持的距离。)”以及空后的“People are more able to understand a robot if it uses the facial expressions they are familiar with.(如果机器人使用人们熟悉的面部表情,人们更容易理解它。)”
根据空前的“Culture is a complex concept, open to various explanations.(文化是一个复杂的概念,可以有多种解释。)”可知,此处应说明由于文化的复杂性,通用的方法并不适用,E选项“Therefore, a one-size-fits-all approach is impractical. (因此,一刀切的方法是不切实际的。)”与空前为因果关系,是前文文化复杂性得出的结论。故选E项。

Moreover, when I’m in trouble, music can lift up my spirits and inspire me to overcome difficulties. Besides, every time I feel tired or anxious, classical music helps me calm down.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

Paragraph 2: After what happened, I decided to change everything I used to do.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After getting home, I was afraid to face my parents but I had to. After looking through the test result, I had thought that they would scold me heavily. However, I was completely wrong. They asked me about the reason for which I failed the test. I didn’t dare to tell a lie, and told them it was the phone they had bought for me that led to my poor scores. When figuring out the cause, they said, “We truly believe in you. We hope you can learn from this failure, change your old ways, and really strive to be a better student. Success will be yours.”
After what happened, I decided to change everything I used to do. Firstly, I handed in my phone to my parents and came home early right after school every day. Once I finished my homework, I’d help my parents with some housework. I hardly used my phone any more. Then in class, I’d listen carefully as before. Gradually, my school performance improved and I got good grades again.
