Mount Lu is located in the northern part of Jiangxi province. It is one of the most famous mountains in China. Its highest point is Dahanyang Peak, reaching 1,474 metres above sea level. In 1996, Mount Lu became a UNESCO World Heritage Site (联合国教科文组织世界遗产).
The Waterfall in Mount Lu Viewed From Afar
-by Li Bai
The sunlit Censer Peak exhales incenselike cloud;
Like an upended stream the cataract sounds loud.
Its torrent dashes down three thousand feet from high;
As if the Silver River fell from the blue sky.
Li Bai was in his 50s when he wrote the poem above. He lived on Mount Lu and was amazed by the beauty of the Censer Peak (香炉峰). This poem shows his love for nature.
As the title tells us, the poet was looking at the mountain from far away. The mountain peak looks like an incense burner and the clouds and mist (雾气) are like smoke rising from it . A waterfall hangs above the rivers that it falls into. The first two lines describe this scenery.
In the last two lines, the poet gets more creative. The word “torrent (飞流)”, tells us that the waterfall is powerful and flowing fast from the peak. But it could be even higher than 3,000 feet (chi)—it could be part of the “Silver River”, also known as Milky Way (银河).
The idea of comparing the waterfall on earth to the Milky Way in the sky made this poem famous in its time. Su Shi once praised the poem. He said, “Li Bai is the only person in history to write such a good poem about a waterfall.” Li Bai lets readers imagine that the waterfall hangs down from the clouds. If you visit Mount Lu yourself, you might understand why Li wrote this poem.
26. What do we know about Mount Lu from the first paragraph?
A. It is the highest mountain in China, located in South Jiangxi.
B. It is a famous mountain in North Jiangxi and a World Heritage Site.
C. It became famous because Li Bai wrote a poem about its waterfall.
27. What does the underlined word “it” refer to?
A. The mountain peak. B. An incense burner. C. A waterfall.
28. What made the poem The Waterfall in Mount Lu Viewed From Afar famous in its time according to the passage?
A. Its writer measured the height of the waterfall, which is 3,000 feet.
B. Its writer was the first poet to describe the Censer Peak as an incense burner.
C. Its writer used a creative idea, comparing the waterfall to the Milky Way in the sky.
29. Why does the writer speak of Su Shi?
A. To discuss the history of Chinese poems.
B. To show what a good poem Li Bai wrote.
C. To compare Li Bai’s poems with Su Shi's.
30. What’s the passage mainly about?
A. It explains how Li Bai shows his love for nature.
B. It describes the geography of Jiangxi province in detail.
C. It introduces a famous mountain and a great poem about it.
【答案】26. B 27. B 28. C 29. B 30. C
【解析】
【导语】本文主要介绍了江西名山庐山的地理概况,展示了李白的经典名诗《望庐山瀑布》,并对其艺术手法及历史评价进行了赏析。
【26题详解】
第一段提到:“Mount Lu is located in the northern part of Jiangxi province…In 1996, Mount Lu became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.”。这明确指出庐山位于江西北部且是世界文化遗产。
【27题详解】
第四段提到:“The mountain peak looks like an incense burner and the clouds and mist (雾气) are like smoke rising from it.”。此处包含一组并列的明喻结构:山峰被比作“香炉”,云雾被比作“烟”。为了保持比喻意象的逻辑一致性,既然云雾被看作烟,那么烟升起的地方应对应比喻意象中的“香炉”。故“it”指代前文的an incense burner。
【28题详解】
第六段提到:“The idea of comparing the waterfall on earth to the Milky Way in the sky made this poem famous in its time.”。文中明确指出,将瀑布比作银河这一富有想象力的创意是该诗在当时成名的原因。
【29题详解】
第六段提到苏轼曾评价道:“…Li Bai is the only person in history to write such a good poem about a waterfall.”。
C
Looking out from the Fendouzhe submersible (潜水器), Du Mengran saw something very unusual. Under the submersible’s lights, some hairy bristleworms (多毛刺毛虫)swam slowly among fields of blood-red tubeworms (管状蠕虫).
Du and her team explore the hadal zone (海沟带). At the moment, the team was at the bottom of the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench, northeast of Japan. Here, over nine kilometres under the sea, Du discovered the deepest-known ecosystem with living animals on the planet. This discovery (发现) landed her a place on the 2025 “Nature’s 10” list.
As we know, most life on earth depends on sunlight. But the ecosystem in the hadal zone works differently. At such depths, there is little sunlight. The bristleworms, tubeworms, and other animals get energy from special chemicals on the ocean floor.
Before Du’s work, no one saw these animals in such detail. Several kinds may even be new to science. The discovery made Du and her team decide to do more dives in areas that are close by. In the southern Pacific Ocean, the team found similar ecosystems. In the complete darkness, six kilometers under the sea, there may be a totally separate food web (食物网).
The space inside the Fendouzhe submersible measures just 1.8 metres wide. Many people would never want to enter such a small space or stay inside it for hours. But Du feels excited every time she steps inside. She compares the submersible to a time machine that opens doors to unknown worlds.
What other secrets lie in the dark depths of the ocean? Du and her team are working to find out.
31. Why did Du Mengran think what she saw outside the Fendouzhe submersible “unusual”?
A. She didn’t expect to see life at such depths.
B. Nobody before her knew the colours of tubeworms.
C. Bristleworms and tubeworms were new to science.
32. Where did Du Mengran make her discovery of a deep-sea ecosystem?
A. In the hadal zone, about six kilometers below the ocean surface.
B. At the bottom of the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench, northeast of Japan.
C. In the southern Pacific Ocean, about nine kilometers under the sea.
33. How do animals like bristleworms survive in the hadal zone according to the passage?
A. They rely on the sunlight that reaches the deep sea.
B. They feed on plants that grow under the sea.
C. They get energy from special chemicals on the ocean floor.
34. Why do many people not want to enter the Fendouzhe submersible according to the writer?
A. Because it usually dives very deep.
B. Because the space inside is small.
C. Because it is completely dark inside.
35. What are Du and her team going to do?
A. Dive into the southern Pacific Ocean for the first time.
B. Stop diving to the bottom of the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench.
C. Continue exploring the unknown in the depths of the sea.
【答案】31. A 32. B 33. C 34. B 35. C

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容完成表格信息,并将答案写到答题卡上相应的位置。
How do you feel when you have to make a speech in front of the class? What about when you go to a birthday party? Do you get really shy?
Shyness means feeling nervous or afraid when you’re around other people. Experts have found that more than 80 percent of middle school students feel afraid to be the center of attention. Some kids were born shy. Some become shy later because of their experiences.
It’s OK if it takes you a while to feel like yourself again when you go to a new place or meet new people. In fact, everybody gets a little shy sometimes. It’s just a case of how much.
Most people have red faces and talk in broken sentences when they get shy. But some become so shy that they won’t go to a restaurant because they are too nervous to order and pay the bill. Some are afraid of meeting strangers, so they seldom go outside. This kind of shyness can be bad for a person.
If shyness doesn’t stop you from doing something you want to do, being shy isn’t a very big problem. Some experts say shy people are quieter and clever because they think more and talk less. Shy people are also good at getting on with others because they think more about other people. Some great people in history were shy, too.
You see, being shy isn’t all bad. But remember not to let good chances (机会) pass by because of it! If you have to sing a song at a birthday party or practice your spoken English in front of others, just do it! There’s nothing to be afraid of.

In the evening, Deng went to the Dunhuang Yardang National Geopark. It is known as “Devil City (魔鬼城)” because of the sound of the wind. At night, he enjoyed the amazing night sky, and countless stars shone brightly over the quiet desert.

-by Li Bai
The sunlit Censer Peak exhales incenselike cloud;
Like an upended stream the cataract sounds loud.
Its torrent dashes down three thousand feet from high;

Most visitors go to Dunhuang, Gansu Province, because of the famous Mogao Grottoes (莫高窟). However, travel-lover Deng Zhangyu decided to do something different. At the end of last summer, he headed west into the Gobi Desert to explore its history, nature and culture.
Deng’s first stop was the Yumen Pass, an important gateway on the Silk Road. People built it during the Western Han Dynasty, and even now, its remains are still standing against wind and sand. Deng climbed onto the ruins (遗迹) and enjoyed the wonderful scenery. He couldn’t help but imagine the ancient businessmen with their camels’ bells ringing and the people who once stood guard (保卫) there.
Next, he visited the ruins of Hecang City. They lie in a lowland area, so visitors can hardly find them without a local guide’s help. In the evening, Deng went to the Dunhuang Yardang National Geopark. It is known as “Devil City (魔鬼城)” because of the sound of the wind. At night, he enjoyed the amazing night sky, and countless stars shone brightly over the quiet desert.
The next day, Deng went to Dunhuang’s famous Shazhou Night Market with some local friends. They tried local delicious food like grilled lamb skewers (烤羊肉串) and grilled fish. There were also performers dressed in ancient clothes dancing along the street. Besides the food and performances, the night market’s restroom also surprised Deng. According to his friends, visitors often take photos inside it.
Deng’s short trip was full of wonderful experiences, letting him find a rich mix of history, nature, and culture in Dunhuang.
