A. he was away from his hometown B. did he leave his hometown
C. he left his hometown D. was he away from his hometown
答案:A
eg:She knows (that) her parents will arrive in Nanjing tomorrow.
I know (that) he lived here five years ago.
We have heard (that) she practises dancing every day.
I am looking for where my purse is.
eg:I didn’t know (that) he would come.
Miss Li told us (that) she had seen the film.
I saw (that) she was talking with her mother.
eg:The teacher told us (that) the earth travels around the sun.
She said (that) two plus three is five.
e.g. I heard (that) he won a prize.
They don’t know where he is.
e.g. I want to know what’s wrong with you.
She doesn’t know what’s the matter with him.
Jack didn’t know what happened.
I want to know what’s on the desk.
Could you tell me which is the way to the nearest hospital?
eg:I think (that) this answer is correct.
I know nothing about him except (that) he lives the next door.
I’m sure (that) Mary will come here on time.
eg:I want to know whether/if you will come soon.
I wonder whether/if you’d like to read the novel.
后接if/whether的常见词有:want to know/wonder/doubt/I’m not sure。
if和whether的区别:
①宾语从句中有or not时(意思为“或不是”,“或没有”),则用whether…or not;
eg:I am not sure whether it will be fine or not tomorrow.(我不能肯定明天天气是好还是不好。)
②在介词后;
e.g. It depends on whether it is going to rain.
③whether 后可接动词不定式;
e.g:She doesn’t know whether to get married now or wait.
eg:You will achieve great success, if you have a dream and believe in it.
特殊疑问句作宾语从句由疑问代词who、whom、whose、what、which等或疑问副词when、where、how、why等引导,
eg:Do you know when the meeting will begin?(你知道会议什么时候开始?)
Could you tell me who teaches us English?(你能告诉我谁教我们英语吗?)
Do you know which is faster, a car or a plane?(你知道飞机和小汽车哪一个快?)
I was surprised at what he had done.(他所做的事使我吃惊。)

Clara stared at the empty notebook on her desk, her fingers trembling. It was the third time she had torn out a page, crumpled it, and thrown it into the overflowing waste basket. Why is this so hard? She thought, glancing at the calendar circled in red: May 10th—Mother’s Day.
Her relationship with Mom had always been... complicated. Mom was a doctor who worked late shifts, often leaving before dawn and returning when Clara was already asleep. Their conversations were limited to brief notes on the fridge: “Dinner in the microwave” or “Math test tomorrow—study!” Clara had grown used to the silence, but this year, she wanted to break it.
The notebook was meant to be a gift—a collection of memories they had never shared. On the first page, she wrote: “To Mom, who saves lives but forgot mine.” Instantly guilt (内疚) washed over her. She ripped it out.
That night, Clara found an old photo album in the attic. Flipping through it, she paused at a picture of Mom holding her as a baby, smiling in a way Clara had never seen. Behind the photo was a folded letter in Mom’s handwriting: “Clara turned I today. I missed her first steps because of an emergency surgery. How do I tell her I love her more than anything?”
Tears blurred the words. Underneath the album lay a small box labeled “Clara’s Art–Age 5 to 12”. Inside were every doodle and painting Clara had thrown away over the years, carefully preserved.
On Mother’s Day morning, Clara placed the notebook on Mom’s pillow. This time, the first page read: “To Mom, who loved me even when I didn’t see it.”
28. Why did Clara feel guilty after writing “To Mom, who saves lives but forgot mine”?

D. She forgot to prepare a Mother’s Day gift.

“Who wants to show us their special project first?” Mrs. Williams asked my fourth-grade class. We were allowed to do anything, as long as we did it ourselves. I burrowed my head in my sweater. Don’t call on me. Don’t call on me.
“Michael, your project, please.”
Michael. That was me. I hadn’t even raised my hand.
I walked to the front of the class on wobbly legs and set my birdhouse on the table. “This is how to build a birdhouse,” I swallowed the baseball-sized lump in my throat and started.
“I looked online for plans to build a birdhouse. Then I went to the lumberyard with my dad, since I’m not old enough to drive. Someone there cut four pieces for the walls, then they used a jigsaw for the hole.” I turned the birdhouse to show all four sides.
Luka’s hand shot up. We were supposed to take questions if anyone had them. Luka was my friend, but he always asked a billion questions. I just wanted to finish and sit down.
“So if someone at the lumberyard cut the wood and made the hole, and your dad drove you there, what did you do?” he asked.
I swallowed. The lump in my throat was now the size of a basketball. “I came up with the idea and talked to the person at the lumberyard about it. And I figured out how to hinge the roof so I can clean out the house after the birds leave.” I lifted the roof to show everyone. Some kids stood up to see.
“Then I nailed (钉住) all the walls together.” I picked up the heavy hammer (锤子) I had borrowed from Dad’s workbench. I had left one of the nails sticking out a little so I could demonstrate.
I looked up to see if Luka was watching as I gave the nail a strong hit. He was watching all right. The hammer came down on the roof instead of the nail.
Smash! The birdhouse landed in a pile of rubbish at my feet. There was a loud gasp, and then nobody spoke.
“I wanted to show you how to build a birdhouse — AND how to take it apart,” I said, thinking fast. I was sure there was sweat streaming down my face. “As you can see, I did it all myself.” The class burst out laughing. And then started clapping. For me!
“Fascinating project, Michael,” Mrs. Williams said. She was smiling so big that all her teeth showed. “Are you all right?” She whispered to me.
I nodded. As I walked to my seat, Jayce gave me a high five. “Wow. That was almost a disaster,” he said. “I can’t wait to see what you come up with for the Science Fair.”
“No idea,” I said, grinning, “but now I feel ready for anything.”

Feeling upset, Greg left home and wanted to go away. Suddenly, it rained heavily. Greg entered an old apartment. There he met a homeless old man named Lemon Brown.
As they talked, Greg learnt that Lemon was a singer before he met some hard times.
Now he was hiding there to protect his treasure from the bad men in the town “______” Greg asked.
“Actually, everyone gets a treasure.” Lemon Brown said. “You want to see mine?”
“If you want to show me.” Greg replied.
Lemon carefully took the rags away from his right leg, there was a piece of plastic.
Then he took out some yellowed newspaper. “Here it is,” he said.
Greg looked at the clippings in surprise. All of them were reviews of shows Lemon had been in when he was young.
“I used to travel around and sing to make money for my family. When my son Jesse grew up to be a soldier. I had nothing to give him except these things that told him who I was, and where he came from.”
“Then what happened?” Greg asked.
“One time I went home and got a letter saying Jesse was killed in the war. The army sent back all the things Jesse used to carry around-those old clippings. That was my treasure, and when I give it to him, he treated it just like that, a treasure. Isn’t that something?”
“I guess so,” Greg said. “But you really think that treasure of yours was worth fighting against the bad guys?”
“As a boy, you’re sure to ask such a foolish question. What else can be more valuable than what a man can pass on to his son or daughter?” Lemon said as he put his treasure back in place.
The rain stopped then, Greg decided to go home. He believed Lemon would be OK with his memories and treasure.
When he rang the bell, Greg thought of the lecture his father would give him next, and smiled.

I like my teacher.(名词作宾语)
I enjoy playing basketball.(动名词作宾语)
I decide to study hard.(不定式作宾语)
I know him .(代词作宾语)
I know Mr Li teaches English.
She asked me if the answer was right.
They are talking about whether the team will win the game.(句子做宾语)
I’m sure that you can pass the exam.(句子作宾语)
I love what you gave me.
(
连接词
) (
主句
) (
从句
)
例1:— Could you tell me _____? — Certainly, and the earlier, the cheaper.
A. how long it will take to get to New Delhi
B. if I can book a direct flight to New Delhi online
C. where I can buy the ticket for the direct flight to New Delhi
D. whether I can buy a ticket to New Delhi without my passport
例2:Do you know what he was doing while _______?
A. he was away from his hometown B. did he leave his hometown
C. he left his hometown D. was he away from his hometown
eg:She knows (that) her parents will arrive in Nanjing tomorrow.
①宾语从句中有or not时(意思为“或不是”,“或没有”),则用whether…or not;
eg:I am not sure whether it will be fine or not tomorrow.(我不能肯定明天天气是好还是不好。)
②在介词后;
e.g. It depends on whether it is going to rain.
③whether 后可接动词不定式;
e.g:She doesn’t know whether to get married now or wait.
eg:You will achieve great success, if you have a dream and believe in it.

A. She realized her mom kept her childhood art.
B. She discovered her mom’s old photo album.
C. She regretted misunderstanding her mom.
D. She forgot to prepare a Mother’s Day gift.
29. What does the word “preserved” mean in the context of the story?
A. Thrown away. B. Hidden carefully. C. Saved and protected. D. Bought recently.
30. What is the best title for the story?
A. The Busy Doctor B. A Mother’s Secret C. The Forgotten Birthday D. Love in Silent Pages
C 29. C 30. D
根据“Instantly guilt (内疚) washed over her. She ripped it out.”和“Behind the photo was a folded letter in Mom’s handwriting: ‘Clara turned I today… How do I tell her I love her more than anything?’”
根据“Inside were every doodle and painting Clara had thrown away over the years, carefully preserved”可知,母亲将Clara丢弃的涂鸦和画作都保存了下来,因此“preserved”意为“保存和保护”。
31. What does the phrase “wobbly legs” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Excited and strong. B. Shaking and nervous.

A. Michael will no longer take part in school activities.
B. The class failed to understand Michael’s project.

33. What is the best title for the passage?
