Nyima Wangdu is a man who keeps exploring the possibilities of life. But for him, this exploration needs more effort.
Born in Sichuan Province, Nyima lost his sight (视力) when he was only three months old. His grandparents raised him and taught him many things through listening and speaking.
At 14, Nyima entered a blind school in Lhasa. There, he learned Braille (盲文) and discovered his gift for languages. ________ One of the books that left the deepest impression on him was Three Days to See by Helen Keller. Nyima found something familiar in this book. He says many people wrongly believe that blind people live in darkness and pain. “Actually,” he says, “I just live in my own world.” Inspired (激励) by Keller, he wrote his own book titled No Need to See 3 Days, recording the small moments and big events that gave him strength.
Nyima’s great love for reading led him to meet Suolang Yangpei, a bookstore owner in Lhasa. The bookstore has a Braille reading area with many books. It also holds reading activities that bring together blind readers and sighted readers. Suolang Yangpei says that without this Braille space, they would never have known how great the need was.

Have you ever had such an experience? You did some exercise the day before, and the next morning, even a small movement would cause muscle soreness Now you’re wondering: Can I still exercise when I’m so sore? Well, there is no exact answer; it depends.
Experts explain that soreness isn’t always bad. It’s normal to feel sore when you train hard or challenge your muscles in new ways. It is known as DOMS. It usually reaches the peak (顶峰) within 48 hours and goes away in 72 hours. It happens because hard exercises break down muscle tissue (组织). Then your body tries to repair it, which causes soreness. Don’t worry—this breakdown helps your muscles grow stronger.
What you should pay attention to is just how sore you feel. Rick Richey, a sports medicine teacher, says, “If your soreness is not serious, it’s okay to exercise. You just need to go easier, like lifting lighter weights or running slower.”
However, if your soreness is serious, take a break. “Your body is intelligent—it tells you to stop,” Richey says. What’s more, exercising with super-sore muscles isn’t helpful. Sore muscles are not able to produce as much force and usually get tired more quickly. Serious soreness can stop you from getting better, and it might even make you hurt yourself.
If you really want to exercise, work on the muscles that don’t ache. For example, if your arms ache, exercise your legs. “If you’re sore in one muscle, look for other parts of your body you can exercise,” Richey says.
22. Which graph can show the change in DOMS in 72 hours?
A. B. C. D.
23. What does Rick Richey suggest doing when your soreness is not serious?
A. Stopping exercising completely until the pain goes away.
B. Keeping exercising but with less effort than before.
C. Exercising the same muscles even harder.
D. Taking medicine to reduce the pain.
24. The underlined word “intelligent” in Paragraph 4 probably means “________”.
A. smart B. quiet C. lazy D. careless
25. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. How Long Does It Take for Muscle Soreness to Go Away?
B. The Difference Between Sore Muscles and Broken Muscles.
C. Should You Keep Exercising When Your Muscles Are Sore?
D. The Secrets to Building Stronger Muscles Without Any Pain.
C 23. B 24. A 25. C
文中第二段提到DOMS(延迟性肌肉酸痛)“usually reaches the peak within 48 hours and goes away in 72 hours”,即先上升至峰值,再下降消失,对应先升后降的曲线。
文中第三段提到,当酸痛不严重时,“it’s okay to exercise. You just need to go easier, like lifting lighter weights or running slower”,说明应继续运动但降低强度、减少努力。
As you sit in class, with your pen and notebook ready, you start to take down every word. But before you get too focused on writing, think about this. ____26____ Research suggests that copying information too closely can harm your brain’s ability to process (处理) and remember it. You get the small points but often miss the key understanding.
____27____ First, when people know their notes are there to use, they put in less effort to remember the content (内容). It’s like saving a password on your phone—your brain feels no need to memorize it. That works until you can’t open your phone. The second problem is distraction (分心). Taking notes can distract us from the speaker’s body language and main message. The focus moves away from actively listening to simply recording words. ____28____
However, note-taking can help improve memory when done carefully. If you write down key ideas or add some personal thoughts, you’re connecting with the material in a way that helps with memory. Putting information together requires processing and deepens understanding. ____29____ Memory is imperfect, and it can be influenced by feelings and other experiences. So correct notes serve as a good reminder of what was actually covered.
Memory weakens over time without practice. ____30____ It also helps you remember important information when done properly.
A. Taking notes can affect memory in two ways.
B. The more notes you take, the better your grades will be.
C. This takes our attention away from truly understanding the lesson.
D. Therefore, effective note-taking can be an excellent tool for learning.
E. Another advantage of good note-taking is that it creates a dependable record.
F. Taking notes word-for-word may not be the best way to remember what you learn.
F 27. A 28. C 29. E 30. D

A选项“Taking notes can affect memory in two ways.”
C选项“This takes our attention away from truly understanding the lesson.”
E选项“Another advantage of good note-taking is that it creates a dependable record.”
D选项“Therefore, effective note-taking can be an excellent tool for learning.”

Different people have different ideas about whether animals should live in zoos. I think animals should live in the wild instead of being kept in zoos.
First, the wild is their natural home. They can run, hunt and live freely there. Living in cages in zoos often makes them bored and unhappy. Second, the wild helps them keep natural skills like hunting and protecting themselves. These skills may disappear if they stay in zoos too long.
To protect animals, we should protect their natural homes. Stop cutting down too many trees and polluting rivers. Also, don’t buy things made from endangered animals. If we all do these, animals can live safely and happily in the wild.

Now, Nyima has gone even further—he has become the head teacher of the blind school that once changed his life. “I want to help more children change their lives through education and reading,” he says.
