B Jack, an engineer, never imagined racing alone across the Atlantic, much less in a boat built himself. Yet he bought the materials on the internet and managed to build one. The idea seemed impractical. Jack was then 47 and married for only two years. He and his wife Deby were building their future, and they had family to consider. Yet she encouraged him, because that is what they did for each other: support the best version of themselves. In October 2023, Jack packed his boat and flew to Lagos. Ahead of him lay the first leg of a race that would take him to Antigua, eastern Caribbean. The finish line for the first leg was Lanzarote,100km off the coast of Africa. After less than a week, Jack arrived in Lanzarote before leaving for the Caribbean. The days were bright and nights were completely dark. With the boat moving closer to the equators, heavy rain erased the sky. With the sails down and waves knocking, he stayed on the tiller (舵柄), doing his best to survive through the storm with its 40-mph winds. Eventually, the sky began to lighten. He got through the storm and was pleased with how the boat had held up. The next night, more rain fell. Suddenly, a wave hit the boat and soon the world was spinning (旋转) around him. Thanks to the safety line, Jack didn’t fall off the boat despite the dizziness and tiredness after 28 days at sea. A few days later, the storm stopped. He lay on the boat, exhausted. Crossing the finish line, he sailed 3,186 miles in 33 days, 21 hours, 2minutes. For nearly four years, he had been focused on crossing the Atlantic, and he’s now considering pushing himself in a new direction, like into a dance class. The idea fascinates and terrifies him. He admits to being a poor dancer, but with Deby’s help he might have a chance. 24.Why does the author say Jack’s idea was impractical? A.Jack had no idea how to build a boat. B.Deby felt uncertain about their future. C.Jack still faced varieties of life matters. D.Deby persuaded Jack to focus on family. 25.What is the author’s purpose in detailing the weather? A.To indicate the race’s uniqueness. B.To stress the boat’s steadiness. C.To highlight Jack’s struggle. D.To inspire readers’ sympathy. 26.Which of the following best describes Jack? A.Reliable and caring. B.Brave and persuasive. C.Ambitious and curious. D.Tough and adventurous. 27.What does Jack learn from the race? A.He is fascinated by modern dance. B.He has the potential to try new things. C.He owes his success to Deby’s help. D.He is still terrified by the long race. C Teens Are Still Developing Empathy Skills The teen years are often fraught with door-slamming, eye-rolling and seeming insensitivity even by kids who behaved kindly before. Some parents worry that they are doing something wrong or that their children will never think of anyone but themselves. A six -year study shows that biology is partly to blame. In adolescence, critical social skills that are needed for one to feel concern for other people and to understand how they think are undergoing major changes. Adolescence has long been known as prime time for developing cognitive skills (认知能力) for self-regulation and executive function (执行功能). “Cognitive empathy,” or the mental ability to take others’ perspective, begins to rise steadily in girls at the age of 13, according to the study co-authored by Jolien van der Graaff at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. By comparison, boys do not begin until the age of 15 to show increases in perspective-taking, which helps in problem -solving and avoiding conflict. Adolescent boys actually show a temporary decline, between the ages of 13 and 16, in a related skill — “affective empathy (情感同理心),” or the ability to recognize and respond to others’ feelings. This may be the result, at least in part, of a dramatic rise in testosterone (睾酮), the primary male sex hormone, during adolescence, which sparks a desire for dominance and power. Fortunately, the boys’ sensitivity recovers in their late teens. Girls affective empathy remains relatively high and stable throughout adolescence. This doesn’t mean, however, that we can do nothing but just wait for teenagers to develop a feeling of empathy. In fact, parents can help instill affective empathy into their children. Affective empathy is grounded in the limbic region (边缘区) of the brain, which regulates emotions. This capacity begins to develop in infancy. Children learn to practice empathy by watching their parents and by experiencing it themselves-being well treated by adults who sensitively respond to their emotions. While cognitive empathy arises from a different part of the brain called the medial prefrontal cortex (内侧前额叶皮层), the two abilities are linked. Children’s affective empathy predicts their level of cognitive empathy as teens, says Caspar Van Lissa at Utrecht University. The findings reflect a major expansion in researchers’ understanding of cognitive growth during adolescence. They used to believe that both forms of empathy were fully formed in childhood. Now, it is clear that “the brain regions that support social cognition, which helps us successfully understand and interact with others, continue to change dramatically”, in our teens, says Jennifer Pfeifer at the University of Oregon. Research in her lab also suggests that cognitive empathy rises in teens. The discoveries serve as a new lens for exploring such teen behavior as bullying and drug abuse. 28.Teenage boys are less likely to put themselves in other people’s shoes ______. A.until the age of 15 B.in their late teens C.during adolescence D.between the ages of 13 and 16 29.Adolescent boys tend to ignore the feelings of another person partly because ______. A.they are born with a natural desire for dominance and power B.their affective empathy becomes unstable during adolescence C.they think being sensitive and caring is seen as uncool for guys D.their emotional reactions are highly influenced by peer pressure 30.Which of the following kids is most likely to grow more empathetic during their adolescence? A.Mike, raised by his grandparents who only care if he’s hungry. B.Jack, raised by parents who buy anything he wants to keep him quiet. C.Leila, raised by parents who properly guide her through her emotions. D.Carla, raised by parents who always ask her to handle her feelings on her own. 31.Which of the following statements about the study co-authored by Graaff is NOT true? A.It took her team a long time to reach their conclusions. B.It was the first of its kind to have studied teen empathy. C.Its findings were supported by Jennifer Pfeifer’s research. D.It will pave the way for further research on some typical teen behavior. D Research shows AI can boost creativity for some but decrease it for society overall. Supporters argue AI can serve as an inspiration, while critics claim it only remixes existing work. Economist Oliver Hauser and Anil Doshi conducted a study to investigate, inviting 300 non-professional writers to write eight-sentence stories. Participants were divided into groups: one generating (产生) ideas independently, another receiving a single AI-generated idea from an AI application, and a third choosing from up to five AI ideas. Both human-only and AI-assisted groups wrote the stories themselves, which were then evaluated by 600 assessors on “novelty” and “usefulness.” The study found that stories written with AI assistance were considered more novel and useful, especially for those who were least naturally creative. Writers exposed to five AI ideas experienced the greatest boost, with stories rated 8% more novel and 9% more useful compared to those written entirely by humans. However, a social dilemma (困境) emerged: while AI enhanced individual creativity, it reduced the diversity of novelty in the group. Hauser described this as a “classic social dilemma,” where individuals benefit but the group suffers. Annalee Newitz, a science fiction author, questioned the findings, stating creativity is hard to quantify in percentages. She found AI often generaled overused ideas, such as employing the phrase “the real treasure was…” in stories about adventures on the open seas. Furthermore, Newitz noted the sci-fi community had already faced the social dilemma, with the magazine Clarkesworld closing online submissions due to an overflow of AI-written stories. Although Newitz acknowledged people might want to try using AI for writing, she warned it could miss the essence of creative writing, emphasizing, “Creative writing is humans communicating with other humans.” 32.How did Hauser and Doshi conduct their research? A.By evaluating the writing methods of different participants. B.By observing the writing process of individual participants. C.By comparing the writing performance of different groups. D.By analyzing three writing styles of non-professional writers. 33.What finding is agreed by Hauser? A.Creativity is challenging to measure in percentages. B.Less creative writers benefit more from AI assistance. C.AI enhanced both individual and collective creativity. D.Human-only group performs better than AI-assisted group. 34.What can we infer about Newitz’s opinion about using AI for writing? A.AI can weaken human communication. B.AI might help to solve the social dilemma. C.AI should be used thoughtfully for writing. D.AI should be prohibited for creative writing. 35.What is the best title for the text? A.AI: replaces human story writers. B.AI: generates novel and useful stories. C.AI: serves as an inspiration in writing. D.AI: boosts creativity for some, but at a cost. 第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分) It has long been known that sleep also plays a significant role in physical and emotional health. Now, researchers from the University of South Australia have published a new study in the Journal of Neuroscience. 36 This is good news for anyone who wants to study a foreign language. According to a blog on Everywhere English, there are two phases that the brain cycles through when sleeping. 37 During this phase, which usually happens about an hour and a half after a person has fallen asleep, brain activity is high and shows levels that are similar to when that person is awake. This is when dreams occur. In non-REM sleep, brain activity is low. 38 But in fact, the researchers from the University of South Australia found that just the opposite is true. According to a University of South Australia press release, the researchers conducted an experiment with 35 native English speakers. Half of the students learned the language in the morning and then went on with their days. 39 This way the researchers could record their brainwaves. Both groups were tested on their knowledge in the morning. The group that had slept soon after they studied performed significantly better than those who had not. “ 40 It’s an active, transformative state for the brain,” Dr. Scott Cousins, a researcher at the University of South Australia, said in the press release. A.Sleep is not just restful. B.The first is called REM sleep. C.Is sleep help you learn language? D.If you are active, you’ll have a good memory. E.It investigates the way sleep helps people learn language. F.But the other half studied in the evening and then slept at the lab. G.One may think that memory and learning are gained when the brain is active. In the spring of 1977, Rick Hoyt told his father, Dick that he wanted to participate in a 5-mile benefit run. When they passed by Tubman park, Isabel suggested cutting through it to get to the library. As they entered the park, the sight of the swings (秋千) and the merry-go-round brought back a flood of memories of their childhood spent there. But now everything looked so old, sad, and dirty. Litter lay on the ground next to an overflowing trash bin. There were still young schoolchildren playing there but they had to avoid the trash that littered the playground. A little boy told them that the city took the other trash cans away and the remaining one never got emptied often. As they headed toward the library, the two high school students wrinkled their forehead. In the library, they encountered Mrs. Evans, their kind-hearted fifth-grade teacher, retired yet still passionate. Mrs. Evans listened as Isabel and Peter eagerly explained what they’d seen. Finally, she recommended them to go to the City Hall to voice their concerns. The next day, Isabel and Peter went into the building of the City Hall but were met with an impatient officer. They were informed that the city couldn’t help with their problem due to a tight budget. Discouraged, they left and turned to Mrs. Evans for help. Under her guidance, they decided to ask Go Green, a non-profit organization whose goal is to protect the environment, for help. “This group is good at raising money for projects just like yours,” said Mrs. Evans. She promised to arrange them to present their ideas to Go Green. Hearing this, their face lit up. Two main tasks remained ahead: researching ways to clean up the park and preparing a convincing presentation. As Isabel was good at researching while Peter always had a talent for speaking, they cooperated quite well. Isabel learned from a science magazine that a new type of trash bin can squeeze the trash down without being emptied often, which saves time, money, and energy. Based on this, Peter practiced his presentation over and over again. Para 1:A week later, Peter stood nervously at the back of the hall where Go Green was meeting. _________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________ Para 2:After the meeting, Isabel excitedly told Peter the good news. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页(共1页) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 答案简易版 1—5 ACACA 6—10 BCCBC 11—15 BACAC 16—20 BAABB 21-23 ABD 24-27 CCDB 28-31 ABCB 32-35 CBCD 36-40 EBGFA 41-45. He could feel nothing but his hands shaking and heart pounding. "You'll be great,Peter," Isabel encouraged him. Just then,Peter heard his name being announced. It was time to present! Peter took a deep breath and then went on the stage. "Tubman Park needs a new kind of trash can," Peter explained, pointing to a poster of a trash can. Then Peter explained the working principle of the trash can in detail. The judges nodded as they listened, seeming interested in the project. After the meeting,Isabel excitedly told Peter the good news. Go Green had agreed to buy the new trash cans for the park! Hearing the inspiring news, they both leaped into the air with joy. Peter hardly had time to enjoy the moment before Isabel started sharing the news with Mrs. Evans and showing their gratitude to her. Learning of the result,Mrs. Evans smiled through watery eyes. "I know you can do it! Tubman Park is sure to become one that is clean and green again!" Never before had Peter and Isabel been so proud of themselves. Text 1 M: The house is a good size and is suitable for a family with lots of children. W: Yes. And the price is within my budget. Text 10 (第18题为推断题) M: A summer camp will be held at our school from June 1st to June 15th. This activity is designed to prepare our high-school guests to be qualified college students in the near future. They would be clearly aware of the differences between high school life and college life. In order to improve their campus tour experience, we are recruiting thirty volunteers to support this summer camp. ⑲Here are some job responsibilities of volunteers: Firstly, volunteers will need to introduce the brilliant history and development of our school to the younger guests. Secondly, each volunteer will guide five to eight students throughout the campus tour and teach them how to use the library, the sports center and the lab. I’m sure the voluntary service can be impressive to all participants. For more information, please call the student council at 845–5632 or visit our official website. ⑳If you are willing to join us, please don’t hesitate to come and fill in the application form at the student union office. Thanks for your attention. 根据第四段“For example, iCAMP offers school holiday camps, both in-person and online, focused on teaching STEAM topics like robotics, graphic art, science, 3D printing, and more.(例如,iCAMP提供面对面和在线的学校假期营地,专注于教授机器人,图形艺术,科学,3D打印等STEAM主题)”可知,iCAMP提供在线学习课程。故选A。 22. 根据倒数第二段“No matter what they’re interested in, ActivityHero has something for ages 8 — 10 with a friendly price tag (标签).(无论他们对什么感兴趣,ActivityHero都有适合8 - 10岁儿童的产品,价格也很友好)”以及最后一段“If your kid is eager to get active after months of classroom lessons, consider the cost-efficient SportsCamp for kids aged 7 and under.(如果你的孩子在几个月的课堂学习后渴望活跃起来,可以考虑为7岁及以下的孩子举办的经济实惠的体育夏令营)”可知,两者都预算友好。故选B。 23. 根据第一段“But for parents, spring break can be a struggle. What do you do with your children when you’re preoccupied with work?(但对父母来说,春假可能是一场斗争。当你忙于工作时,你会怎么对待你的孩子?)”以及文章主要介绍了四个夏令营项目,可知,文章针对的是家长。故选D。 阅读B【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了一位名叫杰克的工程师,独自驾船横跨大西洋的故事。 24.推理判断题。根据第二段中“Jack was then 47 and married for only two years. He and his wife Deby were building their future, and they had family to consider.(杰克当时47岁,结婚才两年。他和他的妻子黛比正在建设他们的未来,他们要考虑家庭)”可知,杰克当时47岁,结婚才两年,他和妻子正在规划未来,还有家庭需要考虑。这说明杰克仍然面临着各种各样的生活事务,在这种情况下独自划船穿越大西洋的想法不太现实。故选C项。 25.推理判断题。文章第四段描述了Jack在航行过程中遇到的各种恶劣天气,如“With the boat moving closer to the equators, heavy rain erased the sky. With the sails down and waves knocking, he stayed on the tiller (舵柄), doing his best to survive through the storm with its 40-mph winds.(随着船靠近赤道,大雨抹去了天空。 根据最后一段“For nearly four years, he had been focused on crossing the Atlantic, and he’s now considering pushing himself in a new direction, like into a dance class. The idea fascinates and terrifies him. He admits to being a poor dancer, but with Deby’s help he might have a chance.(近四年来,他一直专注于横渡大西洋,现在他正在考虑把自己推向一个新的方向,比如参加舞蹈班。 根据第三段中““Cognitive empathy,” or the mental ability to take others’ perspective, begins to rise steadily in girls at the age of 13, according to the study co-authored by Jolien van der Graaff at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. By comparison, boys do not begin until the age of 15 to show increases in perspective-taking, which helps in problem -solving and avoiding conflict.( 荷兰乌得勒支大学(Utrecht University)的乔利恩·范德格拉夫(joolien van der Graaff)与人合著的这项研究表明,女孩的“认知同理心”,即站在他人角度思考的心理能力,在13岁时开始稳步上升。相比之下,男孩直到15岁才开始表现出换位思考的能力,这有助于解决问题和避免冲突。)”可知,男孩直到 15 岁才开始在换位思考能力上有所提升,也就是说在 15 岁之前,青少年男孩不太可能设身处地为他人着想。故选A项。 29. 根据第四段中“Adolescent boys actually show a temporary decline, between the ages of 13 and 16, in a related skill — “affective empathy (情感同理心),” or the ability to recognize and respond to others’ feelings. This may be the result, at least in part, of a dramatic rise in testosterone (睾酮), the primary male sex hormone, during adolescence, which sparks a desire for dominance and power.( 青春期男孩在13岁到16岁之间,在一项相关技能——“情感同理心”,或识别并回应他人感受的能力上,实际上会出现暂时的衰退。这可能是青春期男性主要性激素睾丸激素急剧上升的结果,至少在一定程度上是这样,睾丸激素会激发对统治和权力的渴望。)”可知,青春期男孩在13到16岁期间情感同理心会暂时下降,这导致他们倾向于忽视他人的感受,也就是说他们的情感同理心在青春期变得不稳定。故选B项。 30.推理判断题。根据第五段中“Children learn to practice empathy by watching their parents and by experiencing it themselves-being well treated by adults who sensitively respond to their emotions.( 孩子们通过观察他们的父母和亲身体验来学习同理心——被那些对他们的情绪敏感的成年人善待。)” 根据第一段中“A six -year study shows that biology is partly to blame.( 一项为期六年的研究表明,生物学是部分原因。)”可知,她的团队花了很长时间(六年)得出结论,A 项正确;根据最后一段中“Research in her lab also suggests that cognitive empathy rises in teens.( 她实验室的研究还表明,青少年的认知同理心会增强。)”可知,Jennifer Pfeifer的研究支持了Graaff的研究发现,即认知同理心在青少年时期会上升,C项正确;根据最后一段中“The discoveries serve as a new lens for exploring such teen behavior as bullying and drug abuse.( 这些发现为探索欺凌和滥用药物等青少年行为提供了新的视角。)” 根据第二段“Participants were divided into groups: one generating (产生) ideas independently, another receiving a single AI-generated idea from an AI application, and a third choosing from up to five AI ideas. Both human-only and AI-assisted groups wrote the stories themselves, which were then evaluated by 600 assessors on “novelty” and “usefulness.”(参与者被分成几组:一组独立产生想法,另一组从一个人工智能应用程序中接收一个由人工智能生成的想法,第三组从多达五个人工智能想法中进行选择。纯人类组和人工智能辅助组都自己写故事,然后由600名评估人员对故事的“新颖性”和“实用性”进行评估。)” 可推知,豪泽和多希是通过比较不同组的写作表现来进行研究的。故选C。 33.细节理解题。根据第三段“The study found that stories written with AI assistance were considered more novel and useful, especially for those who were least naturally creative.(研究发现,在人工智能辅助下写的故事被认为更新颖、更有用,尤其是对那些天生最缺乏创造力的人来说)” 以及第四段“Hauser described this as a “classic social dilemma,” where individuals benefit but the group suffers.(豪泽将此描述为一种“经典的社会困境”,即个人受益而群体受损)” 可推知,豪泽认为创造力较差的作家从人工智能辅助中受益更多。故选B。 34. 根据倒数第二段“Annalee Newitz, a science fiction author, questioned the findings, stating creativity is hard to quantify in percentages.(科幻作家安娜丽・纽伊茨对这些发现提出了质疑,称创造力很难用百分比来量化)”以及最后一段“Although Newitz acknowledged people might want to try using AI for writing, she warned it could miss the essence of creative writing, emphasizing, “Creative writing is humans communicating with other humans.(尽管纽伊茨承认人们可能想尝试使用人工智能进行写作,但她警告说,这可能会错过创意写作的本质,并强调“创意写作是人类与人类之间的交流”)” 可推知,纽伊茨认为在写作中使用人工智能应该深思熟虑。故选C。 35. 36.前文提到“Now, researchers from the University of South Australia have published a new study in the Journal of Neuroscience.(现在,来自南澳大利亚大学的研究人员在《神经科学杂志》上发表了一项新研究。)”以及后文“This is good news for anyone who wants to study a foreign language.(这对任何想学外语的人来说都是个好消息。)”说明此处需要填入一个研究内容于语言学习相关的选项。E项“It investigates the way sleep helps people learn language.(该研究阐述了睡眠如何帮助语言学习)”该项提到了研究的内容,即睡眠对于人们语言学习方式的帮助,起到承上启下的作用,符合文意。故选E。 37.前文提到“According to a blog on Everywhere English, there are two phases that the brain cycles through when sleeping. (根据Everywhere English的一篇博客,睡眠时大脑会经历两个阶段。)”由此判断,该段介绍了睡眠的两个阶段,后文中“this phase(这个阶段)”应指代第一个阶段,并描述其特点。B项“The first is called REM sleep.(第一个阶段是REM睡眠阶段)”与后文衔接自然,起到承上启下的作用,符合文意。故选B。 38.后文提到“But in fact, the researchers from the University of South Australia found that just the opposite is true.(但事实上,南澳大学的研究人员发现,事实恰恰相反。)”后文提到“事实恰恰相反”,需先引出大众普遍认为的某一观点,与该句形成对比。G项“One may think that memory and learning are gained when the brain is active.(人们可能会认为记忆和学习是在大脑活跃的时候获得的。)”该项与后文形成转折,逻辑合理,符合文意。故选G。 39.前文提到“Half of the students learned the language in the morning and then went on with their days.(一半的学生在早上学习语言,然后继续他们的日常活动。)”第四段提到分组实验,前文提到“一半学生早上学习”,空处则需填入另一半的对比情况。F项“But the other half studied in the evening and then slept at the lab.(而另一半则在晚上学习,然后在实验室睡觉。)”该项与前文形成完整对照,符合实验设计描述。故选F。 40.后文提到“It’s an active, transformative state for the brain(对大脑来说,这是一种活跃的、变革的状态。)”该段强调“睡眠是大脑的主动转化状态”,空处需填入对睡眠本质的总结。A项“Sleep is not just restful.(睡眠不仅是休息)”直接呼应后文,点明该段核心观点。符合文意。故选A。 完型【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了Rick Hoyt想参加慈善运动会,但是他是残疾人。父亲决定为他推着轮椅参加这样的运动会。尽管经历了很多的挫折,他们的愿望终于得以实现。 41.考查动词词义辨析。句意:迪克根本不是个长跑运动员,他同意推着轮椅上的里克,他们跑完了5英里,排在倒数第二。A. organized组织;B. pretended假装;C. happened发生;D. agreed同意。根据上文“In the spring of 1977, Rick Hoyt told his father, Dick that he wanted to participate in a 5-mile benefit run.”及下文“they finished all 5 miles, coming in next to last.”可知,里克·霍伊特的父亲迪克同意了儿子的要求。故选D。 42.考查形容词词义辨析。句意:那天晚上,里克告诉他的父亲:“爸爸,当我跑步的时候,我感觉自己没有残疾。”A. healthy健康的;B. strong强壮的;C. disabled残疾的;D. wealthy富有的。根据上文“to push Rick in his wheelchair”可知,里克是个残疾人。故选C。 43.考查名词词义辨析。句意:这次实现只是后来完成的1000多场比赛的开始。A. confusion混淆;B. success成功;C. adventure冒险;D. realization (目标等的)实现。根据上文“In the spring of 1977, Rick Hoyt told his father, Dick that he wanted to participate in a 5-mile benefit run.”及“Far from being a long-distance runner, Dick 1 to push Rick in his wheelchair and they finished all 5 miles, coming in next to last.”可知,这次里克实现了自己的一个目标。故选D。 44.考查动词词义辨析。句意:这次实现只是后来完成的1000多场比赛的开始。A. completed完成;B. considered考虑;C. arranged安排;D. suggested建议。根据下文“The 2009 Boston Marathon was officially Team Hoyt’s 1000th race.”可知,他们完成了1000多场比赛。故选A。 45.考查名词词义辨析。句意:瑞克总是说,如果一年只能参加一场比赛,他希望是波士顿马拉松:这是他最喜欢的比赛。A. action行动;B. wish愿望;C. race比赛;D. exercise锻炼。根据下文“he would like it to be the Boston Marathon: his 6 race.”可知,此处指比赛。故选C。 46.考查形容词词义辨析。句意:瑞克总是说,如果一年只能参加一场比赛,他希望是波士顿马拉松:这是他最喜欢的比赛。A. last最后的;B. short短的;C. easy容易的;D. favourite最喜欢的。根据上文“Rick always says if it comes down to doing one 5 a year he would like it to be the Boston Marathon”可知,波士顿马拉松是他最喜欢的比赛。故选D。 47.考查动词词义辨析。句意:他们承诺会在2014年回来和所有其他选手一起完成比赛,他们做到了,在26.2公里的距离上多次停下来拍照,并与许多祝福者握手。A. intended预期;B. remembered记住;C. promised承诺;D. hesitated犹豫。根据上文“2013 was going to be Team Hoyt’s last Boston Marathon together, but they were not able to finish due to the terrorist bombing at the finish line.”可知,2013年的波士顿马拉松比赛因为爆炸事件,没能完成,所以他们承诺会在2014年回来和所有其他选手一起完成比赛。故选C。 48.考查动词词义辨析。句意:他们承诺会在2014年回来和所有其他选手一起完成比赛,他们做到了,在26.2公里的距离上多次停下来拍照,并与许多祝福者握手。A. walking步行;B. stopping停止;C. standing站立;D. smiling微笑。根据下文“to take photos and shake hands of the many well-wishers”可知,此处指多次停下来拍照,并与许多祝福者握手。故选B。 49.考查动词短语辨析。句意:瑞克和里克将继续一起参加短距离比赛,但队友布莱恩·莱昂斯将在2015年波士顿比赛中接替里克推瑞克。A. taking away带走;B. taking off起飞;C. taking out取出;D. taking over接管:指接替某人的职位或职责。根据上文“Dick and Rick will continue to do shorter distances races together, but teammate Bryan Lyons”及下文“in pushing Rick in the 2015 Boston”可知,此处指队友布莱恩·莱昂斯将在2015年波士顿比赛中接替里克推瑞克。故选D。 50.考查动词词义辨析。句意:曾经有人问瑞克,如果他能给他父亲一样东西,会是什么?A. requested请求;B. supported支持;C. asked问;D. recommended推荐。根据下文“if he could give his father one thing, what would it be?”可知,曾经有人问瑞克。故选C。 51.考查动词词义辨析。句意:瑞克回答说:“我最希望爸爸坐在椅子上,我会推他一次。”A. push推动;B. thank谢谢;C. welcome欢迎;D. greet问候。根据上文“I’d most like is for my dad to sit in the chair”可知,此处指让父亲坐在轮椅上,瑞克推着他。故选A。 52.考查动词词义辨析。句意:比赛支持其他不幸的人,将他们的时间和精力投入到造福他人上,37年来,霍伊特队一直保持着同样的精神。 A. training培训;B. affecting影响;C. informing告知;D. benefiting受益。根据上文“Racing in support of others less fortunate”可知,此处指使他人受益,即造福他人。故选D。 53.考查名词词义辨析。句意:比赛支持其他不幸的人,将他们的时间和精力投入到造福他人上,37年来,霍伊特队一直保持着同样的精神。 A. competition竞争;B. sport体育;C. spirit精神;D. comfort舒适。根据上文“Racing in support of others less fortunate, devoting their time and energy to 12 others,”可知,此处指奉献精神。故选C。 54.考查名词词义辨析。句意:他们向所有人证明,只要有足够的毅力和奉献精神,最重要的是,只有在父子之间独特的纽带中才能找到深不可测的爱,任何事情都可以完成。A. character性格;B. perseverance毅力;C. strength强度;D. mind思想。根据上文“Team Hoyt continued in that same 13 for 37 years.”可知,此处指要有足够的毅力。故选B。 55.考查名词词义辨析。句意:他们向所有人证明,只要有足够的毅力和奉献精神,最重要的是,只有在父子之间独特的纽带中才能找到深不可测的爱,任何事情都可以完成。A. love爱;B. connection连接;C. relationship关系;D. sympathy同情。根据上文“In the spring of 1977, Rick Hoyt told his father, Dick that he wanted to participate in a 5-mile benefit run. C Teens Are Still Developing Empathy Skills The teen years are often fraught with door-slamming,eye-rolling and seeming insensitivity even by kids who behaved kindly before. Some parents worry that they are doing something wrong or that their children will never think of anyone but themselves.A six -year study shows that biology is partly to blame. In adolescence, critical social skills that are needed for one to feel concern for other people and to understand how they think are undergoing major changes.Adolescence has long been known as 第4页(共11页) prime time for developing cognitive skills(认知能力)for self-regulation and executive function(执 行功能) "Cognitive empathy,"or the mental ability to take others'perspective, begins to rise steadily in girls at the age of 13,according to the study co-authored by Jolien van der Graaff at Utrecht University in the Netherlands.By comparison, boys do not begin until the age of 15 to show increases in perspective-taking,which helps in problem -solving and avoiding conflict. Adolescent boys actually show a temporary decline, between the ages of 13 and 16,in a related skill一"affective empathy(情感同理心),”or the ability to recognize and respond to others'feelings.. This may be the result,at least in part,of a dramatic rise in testosterone ()the primary male sex hormone, during adolescence, which sparks a desire for dominance and power.Fortunately, the boys' sensitivity recovers in their late teens.Girls affective empathy remains relatively high and stable throughout adolescence. This doesn't mean, however, that we can do nothing but just wait for teenagers to develop a feeling of empathy. In fact, parents can help instill affective empathy into their children.Affective empathy is grounded in the limbic region (of the brain, which regulates emotions. This capacity begins to develop in infancy.Children learn to practice empathy by watching their parents and by experiencing it themselves-being well treated by adults who sensitively respond to their emotions. While cognitive empathy arises from a different part of the brain called the medial prefrontal cortex(内侧前额叶皮层),the two abilities are linked..Children's affective empathy predicts their level of cognitive empathy as teens, says Caspar Van Lissa at Utrecht University. The findings reflect a major expansion in researchers'understanding of cognitive growth during adolescence. They used to believe that both forms of empathy were fully formed in childhood. Now, it is clear that "the brain regions that support social cognition, which helps us successfully understand and interact with others, continue to change dramatically",in our teens, says Jennifer Pfeifer at the University of Oregon.Research in her lab also suggests that cognitive empathy rises in teens. The discoveries serve as a new lens for exploring such teen behavior as bullying and drug abuse. 28.Teenage boys are less likely to put themselves in other people's shoes_ A.until the age of 15 B.in their late teens C.during adolescence D.between the ages of 13 and 16 29.Adolescent boys tend to ignore the feelings of another person partly because A.they are born with a natural desire for dominance and power B.their affective empathy becomes unstable during adolescence C.they think being sensitive and caring is seen as uncool for guys 第5页(共11页) D.their emotional reactions are highly influenced by peer pressure 30.Which of the following kids is most likely to grow more empathetic during their adolescence? A.Mike, raised by his grandparents who only care if he's hungry B.Jack, raised by parents who buy anything he wants to keep him quiet. C.Its findings were supported by Jennifer Pfeifer's research. D.It will pave the way for further research on some typical teen behavior. O Research shows AI can boost creativity for some but decrease it for society overall.Supporters argue AI can serve as an inspiration, while critics claim it only remixes existing work Economist Oliver Hauser and Anil Doshi conducted a study to investigate, inviting 300 non-professional writers to write eight-sentence stories.Participants were divided into groups:one generating (ideas independently, another receiving a single AI-generated idea from an AI application, and a third choosing from up to five AI ideas. Both human-only and AI-assisted groups wrote the stories themselves, which were then evaluated by 600 assessors on "novelty"and usefulness.” The study found that stories written with AI assistance were considered more novel and useful, especially for those who were least naturally creative.Writers exposed to five Al ideas experienced the greatest boost, with stories rated 8%more novel and 9%more useful compared to those written entirely by humans. However,a social dilemma (emerged:while AI enhanced individual creativity,it reduced the diversity of novelty in the group.Hauser described this as a "classic social dilemma,"where individuals benefit but the group suffers. Annalee Newitz,a science fiction author, questioned the findings, stating creativity is hard to quantify in percentages. She found AI often generaled overused ideas, such as employing the phrase the real treasure was..."in stories about adventures on the open seas.Furthermore,Newitz noted the sci-fi community had already faced the social dilemma, with the magazine Clarkesworld closing online submissions due to an overflow of AI-written stories. Although Newitz acknowledged people might want to try using AI for writing, she warned it could miss the essence of creative writing, emphasizing,"Creative writing is humans communicating 第6页(共11页) with other humans.” 32.How did Hauser and Doshi conduct their research? A.By evaluating the writing methods of different participants. B.By observing the writing process of individual participants. C.By comparing the writing performance of different groups. D.By analyzing three writing styles ofnon-professional writers. 33.What finding is agreed by Hauser? A.Creativity is challenging to measure in percentages. B.Less creative writers benefit more from Al assistance. C.AI enhanced both individual and collective creativity D.Human-only group performs better than AI-assisted group. 34.What can we infer about Newitz's opinion about using AI for writing? A.AI can weaken human communication B.AI might help to solve the social dilemma. C.AI should be used thoughtfully for writing. D.AI should be prohibited for creative writing. 35.What is the best title for the text? A.AI:replaces human story writers.B.AI:generates novel and useful stories. C.AI:serves as an inspiration in writing.D.AI:boosts creativity for some, but at a cost. 第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) It has long been known that sleep also plays a significant role in physical and emotional health Now,researchers from the University of South Australia have published a new study in the Journal ofNeuroscience.36 This is good news for anyone who wants to study a foreign language. According to a University of South Australia press release, the researchers conducted an experiment with 35 native English speakers.Half of the students learned the language in the morning and then went on with their days.39 This way the researchers could record their brainwaves. Both groups were tested on their knowledge in the morning. The group that had slept soon after they studied performed significantly better than those who had not. 第7页(共11页) 640 It's an active, transformative state for the brain,"Dr.Scott Cousins,a researcher at the University of South Australia, said in the press release.
