There’s hardly a country on the planet that doesn’t turn to some type of bread with something stuffed inside it to satisfy an appetite. Traveling the world’s sandwiches is, in a way, like traveling the world. Each variety tells a story of local culture and flavor. Bocadillo de jamón Ibérico, Spain Spain’s Bocadillo de jamón Ibérico features excellent Iberian ham from acorn-fed pigs. Thinly sliced meat is piled on hard-shelled bread brushed with extra pure olive oil. Fresh tomatoes and cheese can be added, but the ham is undoubtedly the star. This simple sandwich highlights the luxury of Spanish ham. Shawarma, Middle East The Middle Eastern shawarma gets its name from the Arabic word for “turning”, referring to its meat cooking on a vertical spit (竖的烤架). It spreads to Greece as gyro and Germany as doner kebab. Barbecued spiced meat is put into pita bread, topped with tomatoes, onions and sauces, making it a beloved street food. Montreal smoked meat sandwich, Canada Canada’s Montreal smoked meat sandwich uses smoked beef breast meat layered between light rye bread with sharp yellow mustard (芥末酱). The best meat soaks in salt water and flavorings like coriander and garlic for up to two weeks before smoking and hand-slicing, creating a rich, flavorful treat. Croque monsieur / madame, France France’s Croque monsieur / madame is a classic cafe snack. The monsieur has ham and Emmental cheese in white bread, dipped in egg batter (糊) and pan-fried. The madame adds a fried egg on top. This crispy sandwich shows French attention to simple, delicious ingredients. 21. What is the feature of Spain’s Bocadillo de jamón Ibérico? A. It is cooked for a long time on the spit. B. It needs to be fried with pure olive oil. C. It is typically made without pork ham. D. It highlights high-quality Iberian ham. 22. Why does shawarma get its name? A. For how it was served. B. For the way it was made. C. For its special ingredient. D. For its importing countries. 23. How is Croque madame different from Croque monsieur? A. It has a fried egg on top. B. It uses different cheese. C. It is dipped in egg batter. D. It is made with different bread. B Stadler from California is the owner of two dogs — two-year-old Remi and 15-year-old Madi. “It was a tough introduction,” Stadler recalled. “Madi can be spirited, and bringing in an energetic puppy wasn’t her favorite thing.” Now, the dogs get along well. Still, they sometimes show the deeper bond they’ve formed in their own way. Recently, Stadler realized that what she thought was a behavior issue with Remi was actually his way of helping his older sister. Stadler explained that she had trained Remi to ring a bell by the door when he needed to go outside. But as time passed, he began ringing it much more often. At first, she assumed Remi simply wanted to go outside to play. But she soon realized what was truly happening. Madi had never learned to ring the bell. Instead, she used to sit by the door to signal that she needed to go out. Now that Madi had gone blind, she could no longer find the door as she once did — and Remi had noticed. Remi started pressing the bell more frequently about two weeks earlier. Stadler admitted that at first, it confused her. She thought Remi was ringing it just to play, and when Remi wouldn’t relieve himself and only stared at her, she felt frustrated. Since both she and her husband work upstairs, the bell is how Remi gets their attention. Clarity came when Stadler took Remi outside, brought him back, and he rang the bell again — but this time, while looking directly at Madi. Stadler then took Madi out instead, and the older dog immediately relieved herself. That was the moment Stadler understood: Remi hadn’t been ringing the bell for himself but for Madi. Stadler’s experience shows that understanding and compassion can often be found where we least expect it, offering a gentle reminder about the depth of connection between animals. 24. How did Madi initially respond to Remi’s arrival? A. Annoyed. B. Curious. C. Suspicious. D. Affectionate. 25. What does the paragraph 3 suggest about Remi’s frequent bell-ringing? A. It’s a trained response for his own needs. B. It’s an attempt to teach Madi a new skill. C. It’s a playful act to attract more attention. D. It’s an act of awareness to Madi’s difficulty. 26. What caused Stadler’s frustration with Remi’s bell-ringing? A. A failure of Remi to take action. B. A misinterpretation of Remi’s intent. C. A pressure of her own workload. D. A refusal of Remi to obey her order. 27. What does the author emphasize in the last paragraph? A. Old habits die hard. B. Actions speak louder than words. C. Love me, love my dog. D. Kindness is a language all its own. C You’re embarrassed and then there it is: a flush, sudden reddening of the face, up your neck and across your cheeks. The more you think about it, the hotter and redder you get. If someone asks “are you blushing (脸红)”, it only makes you blush more. So, why do we do it? When we’re already self-conscious, this involuntary response can feel like an added punishment. But the scientists suggest blushing may actually have social advantages. Blushing is our body’s visible reaction when we feel emotions such as embarrassment or self-consciousness. It’s caused by increased blood flow to the skin of the face. When an emotion causes blushing, the sympathetic nervous system — which controls automatic body function — releases adrenaline (肾上腺素). In the body, adrenaline tightens blood vessels (血管), but in the face, it does the opposite — they dilate. This means more blood flows to the skin and makes the face feel hot. People blush when they are feeling self-conscious, which is brought on by unwanted social attention. So even though the “fight-or-flight” system is involved, blushing isn’t about preparing for danger. Instead, scientists think it became a social signal, a way of showing others that we recognize a mistake or feel embarrassed. This can actually help build trust, because people often see blushing as a sign of honesty — especially as it’s involuntary. Blushing can signal a non-verbal apology for a social misstep, which can help maintain social bonds after a mistake. Because blushing is an involuntary reaction, you can’t stop a blush once it’s coming on. However, if you have a blush that lasts more than a few days, is accompanied by pain, or makes you feel painful, talk to your health professional. But for most people, blushing won’t require medical intervention. If you can get through the embarrassment, this involuntary response can be a chance to reflect on your body’s signals, and what they reveal about you and how you connect with the world. 28. What function does the first paragraph serve? A. To show a feature of blushing. B. To explain the causes of blushing. C. To lead in the topic of the text. D. To describe a personal scene of blushing. 29. What does the underlined word “dilate” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Expand. B. Weaken. C. Bend. D. Leak. 30. What can be inferred about the “fight-or-flight” system from the text? A. It is unrelated to the blushing process. B. It is active during the blushing response. C. It is responsible for a different role. D. It is crucial for building trust by blushing. 31. What is the author’s suggested attitude toward normal blushing? A. Treating it as a common medical issue. B. Viewing it as a source of self-awareness. C. Regarding it as a controllable weakness. D. Approaching it as a social embarrassment. D Exhaust gases from home fireplaces, and industrial facilities release carbon dioxide (CO2) into the air. Scientists have developed a new type of electrode designed to address this problem by capturing (捕捉) CO2 directly from the air and turning it into a useful chemical called formic acid (甲酸). Pulling carbon dioxide out of the air may seem straightforward, especially since plants do it naturally. The greater problem lies in transforming that caught gas into something useful. In real industrial exhaust, CO2 is usually mixed with other gases, including nitrogen (氮气) and oxygen. Most existing conversion (转化) systems only work efficiently when carbon dioxide has already been separated and concentrated, which limits their practicality. To overcome this obstacle, scientists set out to build a system that could operate under realistic conditions. The research team designed an electrode that allows gas to pass through it, trap carbon dioxide, and convert it at the same time. The device is made up of three layers, among which captures CO2. Together, these components enable the direct conversion of carbon dioxide gas into formic acid. Formic acid is an important chemical used in a range of applications, including fuel cells and other industrial processes. Producing it directly from exhaust gases could make carbon reuse more practical and cost effective. When tested with pure CO2 gas, the new electrode showed about 40% higher efficiency than existing carbon conversion electrodes. The advantage became even clearer when researchers used a gas containing 15% CO2, 8% oxygen gas, and 77% nitrogen gas. The electrode also proved capable of capturing carbon dioxide at concentrations similar to those found in the atmosphere, showing that it can function in normal air. According to the researchers, this approach offers a promising path toward integrating carbon capture into real industrial applications. They also suggest that similar designs could eventually be adapted to capture and convert other greenhouse gases. 32. What is the main challenge mentioned in CO2 conversion? A. Developing safe storage for CO2. B. Turning CO2 into valuable products. C. Finding a profitable market for it. D. Keeping CO2 concentrated in exhaust. 33. Why was the test conducted with two different gas mixtures? A. To prove its edge in realistic contexts. B. To determine each layer’s specific role. C. To confirm its limitation to ideal labs. D. To assess different CO2 sources’ costs. 34. What can we know about the new technology from last paragraph? A. It requires stronger policy backing. B. It constitutes an early-stage solution. C. It demands new industrial standards. D. It offers an achievable industrial way. 35. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Who Holds the Key to CO2 Conversion B. Why Handling CO2 Remains a Challenge C. What if We Could Turn CO2 into Wealth D. Where the Captured CO2 Ultimately Goes 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Every spring and fall for the last 25 years, Gerard Van has spent many weekends building homes with a charity organization in Austin. 36 However, the routine work is not easy, which requires strength and energy. To stick to a healthy lifestyle and keep up with the physical demands of the work at 76 years old, he started going to the gym. He’s preparing himself for an upcoming “blitz build (突击建房)”, where the organization will build 25 houses in one week. “ 37 The training is just to make sure that I am strong enough to be out there leading the folks to help build the houses.” 38 He, together with seven other volunteers, has formed a team. Over the past 25 years, they have built 50 homes. The one thing people understand about this team is simple. First of all, if they choose to volunteer, they need to be serious. In other words, if they are willing to give up their Saturdays, they are expected to do real work. 39 During the dedications — celebrations held after a home is completed — Van often speaks with deep emotion and sheds tears. “What most people don’t realize is that I am an immigrant. I came to America many years ago,” he says. Indeed, when his family came to America, someone always reached out to them there. 40 So, he is willing to give back. It reminds him that a helping hand can change lives, and giving back truly matters. A. This has become part of his life. B. I have no idea what I am doing. C. And he is very appreciative of that help. D. I’m not worried about how to build a house. E. Most volunteers are forced to work day and night. F. As a result, everyone on the team takes the work seriously. G. The shelter was running out of funds to buy food for the rescued dogs, so Arthur decided to organize a small fundraising event. He spent his entire week after school baking hundreds of chocolate chip cookies. He carefully packed them into transparent bags and tied each with a colorful ribbon. On a bright Saturday morning, Arthur set up a small wooden table in the community park. He placed a large, hand-painted cardboard sign that read, “Delicious Cookies! Help Feed the Shelter Dogs!” For the first two hours, business was slow, but Arthur remained optimistic, greeting every passerby with a bright smile. Suddenly, the weather took an unexpected turn. Dark clouds rolled in quickly, blocking out the sun. Before Arthur could even gather his boxes, a heavy rain began. The strong wind blew his cardboard sign away, and the heavy rain soaked through the thin plastic cover he quickly tried to throw over his table. Water leaked into the boxes, turning his beautifully baked cookies into a wet, ruined mess. Heartbroken, Arthur sat under the shelter of a nearby large tree, watching his hard work being washed away in the rain. He felt a lump in his throat and couldn’t hold back his tears. He had promised the shelter manager that he would bring back at least fifty dollars, but now he had nothing. He wiped his eyes and looked at the broken cookies lying in the mud. He felt like giving up completely. Just then, a small bird landed near him and shook off the rain, as if telling him to stay strong. He took a deep breath, thinking maybe he should wait a little longer. Just as Arthur was about to give up and pack his ruined cookies into the trash bin, a woman holding a large red umbrella walked up to his stall. She was holding the hand of a little girl. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The woman stopped in front of the wet stall and looked at Arthur gently. M: Well, maybe it was because my toys changed from spaceships to tanks! But I think it was mainly because my uncle was in the army and he used to come around to our house and tell stories to my parents. I thought it sounded fun. What about you? What did you want to be when you were young? W: I wanted to be a shopkeeper for quite a while. Like you, I think it was related to how I used to play. My sister and I used to set up shops — we’d sell anything we found lying around the house, and then visit each other’s shops and buy things with pretend money. Of course, we weren’t really buying and selling stuff. It was just for fun. M: Well, neither of us joined the army or became shopkeepers, did we? 听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在,你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。 (Text 10) M: Nowadays many people tend to do business on the Internet. Miss Zhang is in her 30s and has a job that many people dream of. With a laptop or a mobile phone that can go online anytime, anywhere, Miss Zhang can go to any place during her work time. And this doesn’t stop her from making over $1,520 a month in her company. Miss Zhang’s job is selling women’s clothing online. Her customers are a group of young girls she has never met. But they have known each other through the Internet for a long time. Miss Zhang’s sister, who is running a clothing store in their hometown, works as her supplier. Miss Zhang is just one of millions of members of online sellers. There are more and more people shopping online. People are exploring new ways to shop. For example, we now can even buy fruit and vegetables online and then get the goods in the nearest stores. But is shopping online cheaper than ever before? It’s hard to tell. What is clear is that the Internet makes doing business easier and faster. 第二节到此结束。 现在,你有两分钟的时间将试卷上的答案转涂到答题卡上。 听力部分到此结束。 试题答案 听力(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 1 — 5 ACABB 6 — 10 BABCB 11 — 15 ABCCB 16 — 20 ACCAC 阅读(共20小题;每小题2.5分,满分50分) 21 — 23 DBA 24 — 27 ADBD 28 — 31 CACB 32 — 35 BADC 36 — 40 ADGFC 语言运用 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 41 — 45 DACAB 46 — 50 DBDBA 51 — 55 CACDC 第二节(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分) 56. a 57. to follow 58. was organized 59. pairing 60. accessible 61. greetings 62. from 63. fluently 64. swept 65. when 写作: 第一节(满分15分) 参考范文: Dear Chris, I’m Li Hua, a high school student who has been deeply inspired by your sci-fi masterpieces. I’m currently attempting a micro-fiction story when a frustrating dilemma arises: how to construct a fascinating plot within merely 1,500 words. This leaves me struggling to balance detailed world-building with meaningful character development. Struggling with this limitation, I also find it nearly impossible to create an effective twist. Moreover, I worry that rushing the pace might confuse readers instead of engaging them. Would you kindly offer specific techniques that could help maximize narrative efficiency without sacrificing depth? Your expert guidance would be invaluable to me. Yours, Li Hua 第二节(满分25分) 参考范文: The woman stopped in front of the wet stall and looked at Arthur gently. Noticing his red eyes and the messy cookies, she asked softly what had happened. Arthur explained his volunteer work and the failed fundraiser in a low voice. Instead of leaving, the woman smiled and bought all the ruined cookies at a high price, saying they still smelled wonderful and she was willing to help the lovely dogs. Her daughter even handed Arthur a candy to cheer him up. Inspired by the woman’s kindness, Arthur came up with a new plan. The following week, he asked his classmates to join him and sold homemade cookies door to door after school. Their story spread quickly in the community, and many neighbors offered support. Finally, Arthur raised over two hundred dollars, far more than he expected. This experience taught him that kindness always appears when hope seems lost, and determination can turn failure into success. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
