Is there intelligent life on other planets? For years, scientists said “no” or “we don’t know”. But today, scientists are changing their minds. Seth Shostak and Alexandra Barnett are astronauts. They believe intelligent life exists somewhere in the universe. They also think we will soon make contact (联系) with them.
Why do Shostak and Barnett think intelligent life exists on other planets? The first reason is time. Scientists believe the universe is about 12 billion years old. “This is long enough for other planets to have intelligent life,” say Shostak and Barnett. The second reason is size—the universe is huge. Tools like the Hubble Telescope have shown that there are at least 100 billion galaxies, ”says Shostak. “And our galaxy, the Milky Way, has at least 100 billion stars. Some planets going around these stars might be similar to the Earth.”
In the past, it was hard to look for signs of intelligent life in the universe. But now, powerful telescopes allow scientists to discover smaller planets—like Mars or Earth—in other solar systems. These planets might have intelligent life.
Have beings from space already visited the Earth? “Probably not,” says Shostak. It’s a long way away. However, intelligent beings may contact us in other ways, such as through radio signals (信号). In fact, they may be trying to communicate with us now, but we don’t have the right tools to receive their messages. But this is changing. We could make contact with other life forms in our universe and we might help each other in the near future.

C.Why there may be intelligent life on other planets. D.The Earth-the only planet with intelligent life.
3.Why was it hard to look for signs of intelligent life in the universe in the past?
A.Because there were not any smaller planets. B.Because we didn’t have powerful telescopes then.
C.Because the astronomers were not interested in the search. D.Because the scientists didn’t think it was possible.
4.What does the underlined word “they” in the last paragraph refer to?
A.Messages. B.Radio signals. C.Other planets. D.Intelligent beings.
5.What is the best title for this passage?
A.The Age of the Universe B.The Size of the Universe C.Intelligent Life on Other Planets D.The Number of Stars in the Universe
Astronauts have already visited the moon and lived on space stations. They’ve never been to another planet, but they might visit Mars soon. The astronauts will spend about six months
traveling to the planet, then about two years on the planet and about six months traveling back to the Earth. They’ll be away from the Earth for about three years, so they’ll need a lot of food.
It’s very expensive to take food into space. It costs about 120,000 dollars to carry something that weighs one kilogram. So an apple on Mars could cost 20,000 dollars! And for the three years’ journey, the astronauts need quite a lot of food. This amount of fresh food cannot stay fresh, and it is very expensive to take, so they need to find food that is not very heavy.
At the moment, astronauts in space stations eat dried food. It’s very light, so it doesn’t cost a lot of money to carry it into space. But it’s healthier for astronauts to eat fresh food. In the future, astronauts on Mars may grow vegetables like lettuce, spinach and carrots.
Astronauts on Mars will probably have special machines. They’ll use these machines to change beans into food that tastes like meat or cheese. They probably won’t eat real meat or cheese because it won’t be possible to keep animals in space.
1.Which planet do the astronauts plan to visit next?
A.The Earth. B.The moon. C.Mars. D.Venus.
2.How long will it take to get to Mars?
A.About six months. B.About one year. C.About two years. D.About three years.
3.Why do the astronauts eat dried food?
A.Because it is very healthy. B.Because it makes them happy.
C.Because it is cheap to buy. D.Because it is cheap to carry.
4.What may astronauts do in the future?
A.Keep animals in space. B.Grow fresh vegetables on Mars.
C.Eat only dried food. D.Grow food in their spacecraft.
5.What may astronauts get from beans in space in the future?
A.Spinach and carrots. B.Apples.
C.Foods that taste like meat and cheese. D.Real meat and cheese.

Nowadays, the Internet is very important in our life. But many places, like faraway villages, deserts and mountains, still have no Internet. To solve this problem, SpaceX, an American space company, started the Starlink project.
Starlink is a big network of thousands of small satellites. They fly around the Earth in low orbit (轨道). The satellites can send Internet signals to every corner of the world. People there can use a small dish to get the signals and enjoy high-speed Internet. Unlike traditional Internet, Starlink does not depend on cables or tall towers.
The first Starlink satellites went into space in 2019. Now there are more than 6,000 Starlink satellites. It helps people in remote areas (偏远地区) use the Internet for study, work and medical help. When big disasters happen and traditional Internet stops working, Starlink can keep people online. Today, Starlink is used in many countries. It not only brings better Internet to the world but also opens up new possibilities for education, business and communication.
But Starlink also brings some problems. Too many satellites may make space junk. They may also have a bad influence on watching stars. Scientists are trying to make better rules to make sure Starlink is safe for space.
1.What is Starlink?
A.A kind of mobile phone. B.A network of satellites for Internet.
C.A new kind of computer. D.A space station.
2.Which places can get Internet from Starlink?
A.Remote villages without Internet. B.Big cities only.
C.Places with many cables. D.Places with tall signal towers.
3.What is the problem of Starlink?
A.It is too expensive for people.
B.It can only work in big cities.
C.It may create space junk.
D.It makes Internet speed slow.
4.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Starlink is useless for people when disasters happen.
B.Starlink satellites fly closer than many others from the Earth
C.Starlink is only used in some developed countries.
D.Starlink is completely safe for people to use now.
On April 1, 2026, NASA’s Artemis Ⅱ Mission Around the Moon (“阿尔忒弥斯2号”绕月飞行任务) lifted off — the first crewed (载人的) flight beyond Earth’s orbit in over half a century. Four astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft (宇宙飞船) will travel around the moon and return after ten days. They will not step onto the lunar surface. Instead, their journey is a crucial “stress test” of systems never before used with humans on board.
Before Artemis Ⅱ, Orion had only flown empty. Now, for the first time, its life-support equipment, communication tools, and heat shield (隔热罩) are being pushed to their limits. The greatest trial awaits at the end: re-entry (再入). Slamming into Earth’s atmosphere at 40,000 km/h, Orion’s outer shell will blaze at 2,760°C. As one engineer put it, “If the heat shield holds, we know the door to the moon is open.”
The mission has already achieved something extraordinary. On April 6, the crew reached 406,778 km from Earth — the farthest distance any human has ever traveled. The previous record, set by Apollo 13 in 1970, had remained untouched for 56 years. Yet records alone cannot protect a spacecraft. A brief signal blackout during a satellite handover reminded ground control just how fragile communication can be in deep space.
As Artemis II races home, the world watches with a mixture of hope and anxiety. NASA’s blueprint (蓝图) stretches years ahead: Artemis III in 2027, a moon landing in 2028. But these plans are written in pencil, not ink. They depend entirely on the safe return of Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen. For now, their capsule is a tiny dot in an endless ocean of darkness — and humanity’s next giant leap rests on their shoulders.
1.The phrase “written in pencil, not ink” in the last paragraph suggests that NASA’s future plans are ________.
A.carefully designed on paper B.likely to be changed or canceled
C.kept secret from the public D.more expensive than expected
2.What is the primary function of the question mark hidden in the text’s final image — “a tiny dot in an endless ocean of darkness”?
A.To emphasize the crew’s loneliness and the mission’s uncertainty.
B.To criticize NASA for not providing better support for the astronauts.
C.To suggest that the spacecraft is too small to complete its journey.
D.To prove that the moon is much farther than most people think.
3.How does the writer build a sense of tension throughout the passage?
A.By comparing Orion’s speed to that of Apollo 13.
B.By listing every technical detail of the spacecraft.
C.By moving from a confident start to a suspenseful ending.
D.By using humor to downplay the dangers of the mission.
4.Which of the following best describes the relationship between Artemis II and NASA’s 2028 moon landing goal?
A.Artemis II is a separate project with no connection to the 2028 landing.
B.Artemis II is a necessary test; without its success, the 2028 landing is impossible.
C.The 2028 landing will happen regardless of whether Artemis II succeeds or fails.
D.Artemis II and the 2028 landing are both planned for the exact same year.
5.What is the most suitable title for this passage?
A.Four Astronauts, Ten Days, and One Unfinished Race to the Moon
B.How Apollo 13’s Record Was Finally Broken by Artemis II
C.The Dangerous Heat Shield That Almost Destroyed Orion
D.Why NASA Should Speed Up Its Artemis Moon Landing Plans
China’s Tiangong Space Station welcomed a new thing—a special hot-air oven! Recently, astronauts from the Shenzhou-21 and Shenzhou-20 missions (任务) used this device successfully for the first time in space. This is an important step to improve Chinese astronauts’ dining experience in orbit (轨道). Now, they can enjoy tasty baked food even hundreds of kilometers away from Earth.
Before this new invention, most space food was cooked beforehand and ready to eat. There were not many choices for taste. The new oven has greatly made the space menu more varied (多样的). Astronauts have already tried baking popular dishes like “Orleans-style” chicken wings and black pepper beef steak. A video from the space station showed them putting the chicken wings into the oven carefully. After 28 minutes of exact heating, the fragrant and soft chicken wings were done. The crew liked them very much.
However, baking in space brings special challenges. Liu Weibo, an expert in space life support technology, explained that the main difficulties are dealing with smoke and oil fumes (油烟). These could make the space station’s air dirty. The specially designed oven uses new technologies to clean smoke and collect oil. This makes sure the air in the cabin stays clean. Besides, the oven is made to be strong and long-lasting. It can work well at least 500 times to meet the needs of long space missions.
The new oven is part of China’s work to make astronauts’ living conditions better in space. Now, the space station has more than 190 kinds of food. The menu is updated every 10 days to give different and healthy food choices. Apart from the oven, the “space garden” on the station is also growing well. Astronauts have successfully grown fresh vegetables like lettuce and cherry tomatoes. These add more fresh food to their meals.
It turns out that a nice and delicious meal is always the best comfort—even in the huge space far from Earth.
1.What is the new thing added to China’s Tiangong Space Station?
A.A space garden facility. B.A special hot-air oven.
C.Fresh vegetables like lettuce. D.Pre-cooked ready-to-eat food.
2.Why is using the new oven an important step?
A.It can work more than 500 times.
B.It helps collect oil and clean smoke.
C.It makes astronauts’ dining experience in space better.
D.It is designed by space life support experts.
3.What is the main difficulty of baking in space?
A.Not enough baking materials. B.Unstable heating time.
C.Dealing with smoke and oil fumes. D.Little space for the oven.
4.What does China’s effort to improve space food show?
A.China pays little attention to astronauts’ living needs.
B.China is developing advanced space life support technologies.
C.Fresh food is more important than technology in space.
D.Astronauts only care about the taste of their meals.
5.What is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

Learning grammar (语法) is a key part of studying English, but memorizing rules can sometimes feel boring or hard. Don’t worry— here are some simple and fun tips to make grammar easier and more interesting.
First, when you learn a new grammar rule in class, try to teach it to someone else. You can explain it to a family member, a friend, or even a pet! Teaching helps you understand the rule better and remember it longer.
Second, use grammar in real life. For example, if you are learning the present continuous tense (现在进行时) , talk about what people are doing around you, like “My sister is reading a book” or “The children are singing outside.” This makes grammar useful and connected to your daily life.
Finally, don’t be afraid of making mistakes. They are a natural part of learning. The key is to learn from them. Try to practice writing a short diary in English every day. Even just a few sentences each day can make a real difference. When you do make a mistake, or if you’re ever not sure whether (是否) something is correct, don’t be afraid to ask your teachers or classmates for help. Remember, every effort is a step forward, and you make progress with each try.
Remember, grammar is not just a set of rules— it’s a tool to help you communicate. With these fun activities, you can learn grammar naturally and speak confidently!
1.What can you do to understand a new grammar rule better according to the text?
A.Write it down many times. B.Teach it to someone else.
C.Read it aloud in the morning. D.Copy it down from the book.
2.How does the writer explain the second tip?
A.By giving examples of using a tense. B.By listing some important grammar rules.
C.By asking some easy questions to readers. D.By talking about his own learning experience.
3.What can we infer (推断) from the fourth paragraph (段落) ?
A.Mistakes can help you learn better if you learn from them.
B.You should only practice grammar when you are sure it’s correct.
C.It is better to solve grammar problems by yourself than to ask others.
D.Learners need to write long stories to improve their grammar quickly.
Everyone is born with the ability to learn. However, your success in learning depends on your learning habits (习惯). Research shows that successful learners have some good habits in common.
First of all, good learners often connect what they need to learn with things they are interested in. Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it is also easier for you to focus on (专注) for a long time. For example, if they need to learn English and they like music or sports, they can listen to English songs or watch sports programmes in English.
Good learners know well what they are good at and what they need to practise more. Even if you learn something well, you will forget the knowledge if you don’t use it. That’s why people say, “Use it or lose it.” One more important saying is, “Practice makes perfect.” Good learners keep practising and are not afraid of making mistakes. This is another good habit.
It is not enough to just study hard. Good learners also know how to study well. For example, they may take notes by writing down key words or drawing mind maps. They also review regularly by reading their notes every day or explaining the knowledge to others.
Last but not least, good learners often ask questions during or after class. They even ask each other and try to find out the answers. In this way, knowledge grows from the good habit of questioning.
根据材料内容选择最佳答案。
1.What do most successful learners have according to Paragraph 1?
A.Great minds. B.Colourful hobbies.

A few days ago, I received a letter from my Aunt Lorraine. It was a handwritten letter thanking me for some Shanghai cookies I had sent her: Aunt Lorraine is ninety﹣one years old and she has wonderful manners. That is why she sent me the “thank you”letter. She also has wonderful handwriting. Her penmanship (书法) is smooth. Each individual letter and word is perfectly formed. It is a pleasure to read her letters.
Aunt Lorraine was educated half a century ago. At that time, penmanship was considered an important skill. Now, it is the age of e-mail and social media. Few people have the time or desire to practice their penmanship or write letters by hand.
This is unfortunate (令人遗憾的). In my view, good penmanship still counts. This is especially true in school. If you want to get good grades on your essays (短文), neatness will be important. Your essay might be full of good ideas. However, messy handwriting can turn an A into a B.Awful handwriting can get you a D!
Good penmanship has other benefits (好处), too. Since it’s a skill, it trains your brain and develops your learning abilities. It also helps you organize (整理) your thoughts. And, believe it or not, that slow process of pushing a pen along paper improves your reading, spelling and even your pronunciation of English.
Apart from all these educational benefits, good penmanship also has personal benefits. A neatly written letter to a friend is something he or she will treasure (珍藏) forever. A letter that looks as if a chicken had danced across the paper will be quickly thrown away. I have kept the letter from my Aunt Lorraine. It’s a great treasure!
1.Why did Aunt Lorraine write the letter?
A.To make herself pleased. B.To show her wonderful manners.
C.To express her thanks. D.To set a good example to the writer.
2.What is the Chinese meaning of the underlined word “counts” in Paragraph 3?
A.计数在内 B.被接受 C.有价值 D.有指望
3.According to the author, which of the following are the benefits of neat handwriting?
①Making new friends.
②Getting good grades on your essays.
③Organizing your thoughts.
④Improving your English pronunciation.
⑤Making your essay full of good ideas.
A.②③④ B.①③④ C.②④⑤ D.①②⑤
4.The underlined part in the last paragraph is used to describe ________.
A.a boring letter B.bad handwriting C.a great treasure D.good penmanship
5.What’s the writer’s purpose of writing this article?
A.To share her pleasure of hearing from her aunt.
B.To express the importance of neat handwriting.
C.To talk about her experiences of practicing penmanship.
D.To encourage people to write letters by hand instead of e-mailing.

In English, “as dead as a dodo” means someone or something is totally, unquestionably dead. But the dodo, a tubby bird that has been extinct for hundreds of years, may not be dead anymore!
US company Colossal Biosciences said it would try to bring the dodo back to life. The bird used to live on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean until the 17th century.
“[The place] to bring back the dodo into the wild would be Mauritius,” Ben Lamm, the co-founder of the company told The Guardian. Bringing back dodos into the ecosystem of the island, instead of being a newcomer to somewhere else, is thought to bring benefits to the plants and animals that already live there.
The company has found the genetic code of the extinct animals from their dead bodies. It will change the DNA of currently living animals to make them close to the animal of the past. The Nicobar pigeon will be used as the genetic base for the dodo, according to MIT Technology Review.
The company also has plans for other extinct animals, such as the mammoth (猛犸象). They believe that mammoths introduced to the Arctic could help with climate change as they turn the wet tundra (苔原) into sunlight-reflecting dry grasslands by eating the grass, according to The New Yorker.
However, some people don’t like the idea. With a third of all bird species in decline, protecting today’s species is needed more than focusing on animals of the past, said BBC Science Focus.
1.If “as dead as a dodo” is used to describe someone’s phone, it means the phone is _______.
A.lost B.out of power C.hard to use D.nice and fancy
2.Why did the company choose Mauritius as the dodos’ living place?
A.Because the island is set as a research place for new species.
B.Because dodos won’t have natural enemies on the island.
C.Because the island has the best ecosystem in the world.
D.Because they used to live there and may be good to the ecosystem.
3.How will the company bring the dodo back?
A.By changing the closest bird’s DNA to make it similar to the dodo’s.
B.By producing dodos with DNA from their dead bodies
C.By combining dodos ’DNA with mammoths’ DNA.
D.By changing the dead dodos’ DNA to make them reborn.
4.The underlined word “extinct” in paragraph 4 may probably mean ________.
A.not common, exist in a small number B.in danger of being harmed
C.no longer exist because of the change of the world D.valuable and interesting
5.According to the last paragraph, BBC Science Focus agrees that ________.
A.the number of bird species has dropped much faster than other species
B.focusing on endangered animals is more important than extinct ones
C.bringing extinct animals back to life is meaningful for today’s species
D.it is impossible to bring extinct animals back to life exactly as they were
①New Zealand’s kakapos are some of the strangest birds in the world. They’re heavy, flightless parrots that are only active at night. And there’re only a few. Now, thanks to great protection, kakapos may be coming back. Scientists are expecting more kakapo chicks to be born this year.
②Kakapos are only found in New Zealand. About the size of a cat, they’re the world’s heaviest parrots, and can weigh as much as nine pounds. Since they can’t fly, they spend most of their time on the ground. But they can also use their wings to help them balance as they jump between tree branches.
③The faces of kakapos look a little like owls (猫头鹰). And their bodies are covered in green, yellow, and black feathers that help them hide in the leaves around them. The birds can be almost impossible to be found, but they have a strong smell. Long ago, there were large numbers of kakapos in New Zealand. But after humans arrived, their numbers dropped quickly. This was partly because of hunting, and partly because the forests they lived in got cut down.
④In the early 1970s, scientists worried that kakapos might have disappeared. But in 1977, one last group of kakapos were found. Even so, just 30 years ago, in 1995, there were only 51 kakapos remaining. Scientists worked really hard to protect the remaining birds. And they took some steps to help make sure the birds had as many babies as possible, and that the chicks survived.
⑤...
⑥On Valentine’s Day, scientists had a kakapo chick for the first time in four years. And then another, and another. So far, 52 kakapo chicks have been born this year. They hope that in five to 10 years, the kakapos will be on their way to a better future.
1.Which of the following is TRUE about kakapos?
A.People can see this kind of bird everywhere.
B.They are black and white with a strong smell.
C.They fly high and keep active all day long.
D.They are about the size of a cat and can jump between tree branches.
2.What made kakapos disappear?
A.The weather was really changeable. B.Human activities influenced them.
C.Other animals could catch them easily. D.Forests often caught fire.
3.What might Paragraph 5 talk about?
A.When scientists found kakapos.
B.Which foods were the best for kakapos.
C.How scientists help kakapos have babies.
D.Why green kakapos can’t fly.
4.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Kakapo parrots are on the road to recovery B.Some reports about animals
C.Better ways to save the earth D.Kakapo parrots’ living habits

As one of the most famous landscape paintings in Chinese art history, A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains holds great cultural value for centuries. Created during the Northern Song Dynasty, this masterpiece was the work of Wang Ximeng, a talented young artist.
The painting is a long scroll (卷轴). It is over 11 meters long and 51.5 centimeters tall. Scrolls are a traditional Chinese art form. What makes this painting special is the colors Wang used. He took natural materials from rocks and mixed them with animal glue (胶水). These colors are so good that they still look bright after almost 900 years, even though the painting is easy to break.
In the painting, you can see the beauty from southern China. There are many mountains with sharp tops. Long rivers connect small villages, wooden bridges and fishing boats. You can also find people—some are farming, some are on boats, some are walking. They show how people lived happily with nature back then. This mix of natural beauty and daily life expresses the ancient Chinese idea of “unity (统一) between man and nature”. This means humans and nature are one and should help each other.
Today, this painting is kept in the Palace Museum in Beijing. Museum workers keep it in a box in good temperature and humidity (湿度) — too hot, too cold, or too wet would damage the old silk and colors. I think, because it is easy to break, the museum only shows it sometimes, but it still influences many modern artworks.

B.Wang Ximeng: a Talented Artist.
C.A Masterpiece: Unity of the Art and Life.
D.A Masterpiece: Unity of Nature and Humans.
Famous cartoon characters always have lots of fans. Let’s take a look at some famous cartoon characters.
Bugs Bunny is a tall and thin rabbit. Leon Schlesinger Productions created him in the late 1930s. He is smart and friendly. He lives in a good neighbourhood and makes money by inventing the carrot peeler (剥皮器). It is not difficult for him at all. He enjoys watching sports and going out to play around with his friends. What he likes saying is: “What’s up, Doc?”
Tom and Jerry are characters in the American animated series of comedy short films Tom and Jerry. William Hanna and Joseph Barbera created them in 1940. Tom is a grey and white cat. Although he is larger and more energetic, he is not as smart as Jerry. As a result, Tom can hardly catch Jerry. Although they always fight against each other, they save each other when they are in danger.
Winnie the Pooh is a fictional (虚构的) teddy bear. The first collection of stories about it was the 1926 book Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A.Milne. Some schools ask their students to do volunteer work. Some students like doing volunteer work, while others don’t. So should students do volunteer work? I think they should. Here are my reasons.
Doing volunteer work can help students get into colleges. Many colleges look at the time students spend doing volunteer work. If they don’t do any volunteer work, they may not be able to get into a college.
Not all students go to college after leaving high school. If you think that those students don’t need to do volunteer work, you’re wrong. Students can get a lot of skills by doing volunteer work.
________. Everyone lives in a community. Doing volunteer work helps you know that you’re part of your community. When you know that, you’ll love your community.

Do you know that sign language also has dialects (方言)? Sign language is the main way deaf people communicate. Since they can’t hear, it’s hard for them to communicate with hearing people. Luckily, sign language interpreters (传译员) are there to help.
Hao Shuxin, 24, sees sign language as her mother language, as her parents are deaf. In 2018, she became a sign language interpreter in Chongqing. Her work takes her to places like courts, where she interprets for deaf people in legal cases (法律案件).
Since sign language has fewer words, Hao often meets difficult words without a direct match. In such situations, she carefully breaks down the meaning for deaf people. There are also grammatical differences between Chinese and sign language. “For example, the words ‘put out a fire’ are signed as ‘a fire put out’ in sign language, as deaf people describe what they see first,” Hao explained.
Hao feels stressed at work because being correct is important in interpretation. Her worry also comes from the fact that sign language has “dialects”. The same word can be expressed with different hand gestures (手势) depending on where a deaf person is from. Having traveled to over 30 cities in China, she has learned about the unique ways for deaf people across the country to use sign language.
In her free time, Hao reads many law books and talks with lawyers and her deaf coworkers to improve her professional ability. “I understand the difficulties faced by the deaf community, and I want to do everything I can to help them,” Hao said.
1.Hao is familiar with (熟悉) sign language mainly because _________.
A.she can’t hear anything B.she teaches sign language at school
C.her parents are deaf D.she loves to take care of people
2.According to the passage, deaf people may say “_________”.
A.pick up a football B.pick a football up
C.a football up pick D.a football pick up
3.Hao uses the following ways to improve her professional ability except (除了) _________.
A.reading law books B.talking with lawyers
C.traveling around the world D.talking with her deaf coworkers
4.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Chinese has fewer words than sign language.
B.Hao sometimes feels stressed as sign language has “dialects”.
C.Hao loves her job because she always feels relaxed at work.
D.There is almost no difference between Chinese and sign language.

1.How does the writer start the passage?
A.By asking a question. B.By showing a picture. C.By giving some numbers. D.By showing research findings.
2.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.The age and size of the Earth. B.Our galaxy-the Milky Way.
【答案】1.A 2.C 3.B 4.D 5.C

【答案】1.C 2.A 3.D 4.B 5.C

【导语】本文是一篇新闻报道,主要讲述了NASA阿尔忒弥斯2号绕月飞行任务的发射、过程与风险,介绍了任务的测试意义,并说明了它和2028年登月计划的关联,表达了对任务的复杂心情。
1.第四段句子:“But these plans are written in pencil, not ink. They depend entirely on the safe return of Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen.”,“written in pencil, not ink”是英文常用比喻,指计划并非最终确定,结合后文可知NASA的未来登月计划可能会被改变或取消。
2.最后一段描写“For now, their capsule is a tiny dot in an endless ocean of darkness — and humanity’s next giant leap rests on their shoulders.”,结合前文“with a mixture of hope and anxiety”,突出了宇航员的孤独处境和任务结果的不确定性。
3.第一段句子:“On April 1, 2026, NASA’s Artemis II Mission Around the Moon lifted off — the first crewed flight beyond Earth’s orbit in over half a century.”,开篇直接说明任务成功发射,语气笃定自信;再结合第四段句子:“As Artemis II races home, the world watches with a mixture of hope and anxiety…humanity’s next giant leap rests on their shoulders.”,文章从平稳自信的开篇,逐步推进到充满未知与悬念的结尾,通过这种行文节奏的变化,营造出贯穿全文的紧张氛围。
4.第一段点明:“Instead, their journey is a crucial ‘stress test’ of systems never before used with humans on board.”,第四段说明:“NASA’s blueprint stretches years ahead: Artemis III in 2027, a moon landing in 2028”,说明阿尔忒弥斯2号是登月系统的关键测试,没有其成功,2028年登月无法实现。
5.全文围绕第一段核心事件:“Four astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft will travel around the moon and return after ten days.”展开,同时贯穿未完成的登月探索进程,因此标题Four Astronauts, Ten Days, and One Unfinished Race to the Moon最贴合全文主旨。

【答案】1.B 2.A 3.A
【导语】本文介绍了几个让学习英语语法变得更轻松有趣的小技巧。
1.根据原文第2段“First, when you learned a new grammar rule in class, try to teach it to someone else. ... Teaching helps you understand the rule better and remember it longer.”,可知把新学的语法规则教给别人,能帮助你更好地理解它。
2.根据原文第3段“Second, use grammar in real life. For example, if you are learning the present continuous tense…”,作者通过举现在进行时的使用例子来解释第二个技巧。
3.根据原文第4段“Finally, don’t be afraid of making mistakes. They are a natural part of learning. The key is to learn from them.”,可以推断出:如果你能从错误中学习,错误就能帮你学得更好。
C.Long studying hours. D.Good learning habits.
2.What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us?
A.Practice makes perfect. B.It’s never too old to learn.
C.Interest is the best teacher. D.Knowledge is from questioning.
3.How does the writer explain his idea in Paragraph 4?
A.By telling stories. B.By giving examples.
C.By listing some numbers. D.By comparing many learners.
4.How many good learning habits does the author talk about in this text?
A.Two. B.Three. C.Four. D.Five.
5.Which best shows the structure (结构) of the text? (P = Paragraph)
A. B. C. D.
【答案】1.D 2.C 3.B 4.C 5.A

四、U5单元话题热点预测
D.it is impossible to bring extinct animals back to life exactly as they were
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.A 4.C 5.B
根据“In English, ‘as dead as dodo’ means someone or something is totally, unquestionably dead.”可知,“像渡渡鸟一样死了”用于指某人或某物完全、毫无疑问地死了。用于描述手机时,就是指手机彻底坏了,难以使用了。故选C。
2.细节理解题。根据“The bird used to live on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean until the 17th century.”和“Bringing back dodos into the ecosystem of the island, instead of being a newcomer to somewhere else, is thought to bring benefits to the plants and animals that already live there.”可知,毛里求斯被选作渡渡鸟的栖息地,是因为它们曾在这里生活,而且它们的回归会给已经生活在那里的植物和动物带来好处。故选D。
3.推理判断题。根据“It will change the DNA of currently living animals to make them close to the animal of the past. The Nicobar pigeon will be used as the genetic base for the dodo, according to MIT Technology Review.”可知,公司在死去的渡渡鸟身上找到了它们的基因序列,通过改变尼可巴鸠的DNA,使其与渡渡鸟的基因序列接近,从而创造出渡渡鸟。故选A。
4.词句猜测题。根据上文“But the dodo, a tubby bird that has been extinct for hundreds of years, may not be dead anymore!”可知,渡渡鸟在数百年前就灭绝了,因此extinct的含义为“灭绝的”。故选C。
5.推理判断题。根据“With a third of all bird species in decline, protecting today’s species is needed more than focusing on animals of the past, said BBC Science Focus.”可知,《BBC科学聚焦》认为保护当今的物种比关注过去的动物更有必要;因此B选项“如今处于危险中的动物比灭绝的动物更重要”可能是他们赞同的观点。故选B。

五、U1-U4单元话题热点预测
1.How old may Wang Ximeng be when he created A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains?
A.3 B.18 C.48 D.58
2.Why is the masterpiece so special?
A.Wang drew many mountains with sharp tops.
B.Wang showed how people lived happily with nature.
C.Wang used natural materials mixed with animal glue.
D.Wang painted the beautiful views from southern China.
3.What does the underlined word in paragraph 4 refer to?
A.The museum. B.The idea. C.The painting. D.The unity.
4.Which is the best title of the passage?
A.Wang Ximeng: a Nature Master.
B.Wang Ximeng: a Talented Artist.
C.A Masterpiece: Unity of the Art and Life.
D.A Masterpiece: Unity of Nature and Humans.
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.C 4.D

2.第二段“What makes this painting special is the colors Wang used. He took natural materials from rocks and mixed them with animal glue.”表明,这幅画作的特别之处在于王希孟使用的颜色,他从岩石中提取天然材料,并与动物胶混合。
3.第四段“Today, this painting is kept in the Palace Museum in Beijing. Museum workers keep it ...”表明,it指代的是前面提到的“the painting”。
4.本文主要介绍了中国艺术史上最著名的山水画之一《千里江山图》。第三段“This mix of natural beauty and daily life expresses the ancient Chinese idea of ‘unity between man and nature’.”表明,这幅画作融合了自然美景和日常生活,表达了中国古代“天人合一”的思想。因此,选项D“杰作:自然与人类的统一”最符合文章主旨。

Doing volunteer work can help those in need. It can improve some people’s lives. Research (研究) shows that when you assist others, you’ll be happier, too. So doing volunteer work is good not only for the receiver but also for the giver.
Now we can say that doing volunteer work is very important for students. So students should do volunteer work.
1.What can we know from Paragraph 2?
A.Many children enjoy volunteering at college.
B.Many colleges ask students to volunteer for them.
C.Many colleges organize volunteer work for their students.
D.Many colleges like students with experiences of doing volunteer work.

【答案】1.C 2.D 3.C 4.B
