Nowadays, with the development of the Internet, emoji (表情符号) are more and more popular among netizens (网民). Some people even feel difficult to talk online without using emoji. Emoji help netizens to communicate with each other easily and vividly (生动地). Yet, not all emoji are properly used on social media. So we are going to introduce some common but confusing (令人困惑的) emoji to help you have a better understanding of these small signs.
1.
A recent survey shows, over 53% people use the emoji when they are chatting online. Some people think it means “I’m shy,” but others only use it when they are surprised or shocked. But what does it really mean? It is still an unsolved (未解决的) question.
2.
What do you think of this sign? Believe it or not, 80% of netizens use it under the meaning of “It is not funny at all, but I have to smile.” Is it right? Of course not! It actually means that “I saw what you did (usually bad things) and I want to give you a sinister (奸诈的) smile.”
3.
People have very different opinions on this emoji. The Apple company has said that this emoji means “high five (嗨,击掌).” But most people still use the incorrect meaning—”pray”. Some netizens even thought, “If you see this emoji as two people give each other a high five, you must be a bad guy.”
4.
According to the official guidelines (官方指南), it is used as “smile through tears (破涕为笑).” However, most young netizens consider this emoji as “laugh to tears” or simple “LOL”, which means “laugh out loud.”
You see, emoji are also a kind of language. And different people have different understanding of them.
21.You are playing with your mobile phone while you are doing your homework, and your father sends you this sign, what should you do?

B.Send this emoji back to your father.
C.Go on playing with your mobile phone.

23.Why does the writer introduce these four emoji?
A.Because they are more important. B.Because they are not so common.
C.To help the netizens use them easily. D.To help the netizens use them properly.

Many kids find it hard to stay focused on their lessons for long. Research shows that movement breaks help students learn better—and it doesn’t take much. According to a study in Psychology of Sport & Exercise, just a few minutes of activity can improve classroom performance.
Lead scientist Eric Drollette, an exercise psychologist at the University of North Carolina, wanted to find a kind of exercise that could fit into a classroom setting with limited space. Early studies had tested 20 to 30 minutes of moderate-intensity (中等强度的) exercise, but they couldn’t be done in a classroom and would take too much time away from lessons. Drollette’s team designed a nine-minute high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE). Kids performed moves like jumping jacks (开合跳), squats and high knees—exercising for 30 seconds, resting for 30 seconds, and then repeating.
The study tested 25 children aged 9 to 12. Each child visited the lab three times, taking part in three different activities: doing the nine-minute HIIE, riding a stationary (静止的) bike, and watching an educational video. After each activity, the children completed tasks testing attention, language skills, and math.
Drollette’s team showed that after the high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE), children’s brains became more efficient at recognizing mistakes. Language performance also improved after the HIIE. However, for math, the kids performed a bit less than after less-intense exercise. “That could be because of tiredness.” Drollette says. Tasks that require higher-level thinking, such as math, seem to be the first ones affected by tiredness.
Experts find the results exciting. Lauren Raine, an exercise scientist at Northeastern University, noted that short, high-intensity exercise breaks in classrooms might improve learning performance and help students deal with mistakes more effectively.
Drollette also believes such exercise could benefit teens. An overactive mistake response is connected with mental (精神的) health problems, which have become more common in high school. By helping calm this response, high-intensity exercise may support mental well-being.
“Being active can help with a lot of things that are going on in society,” Drollette said, encouraging students to find chances to stand up and get moving.
24.Why did Drollette’s team create the nine-minute HIIE?
A.To find the most popular exercise for young kids.
B.To make exercise fit limited classroom time and space.
C.To replace the moderate exercise in students’ daily life.
D.To compare moderate exercise with a high-intensity one.
25.What is mentioned in Paragraph 4 about Drollette’s team’s study?
A.Its results. B.Its process. C.Its challenges. D.Its limitations.
26.What can we learn from the passage?
A.20-30 minutes’ exercise is out of date today.
B.The kids did activities instead of tests in the lab.
C.Tiredness may influence the kids’ math performance.
D.The HIIE program mainly benefits the kids’ learning.

Last month, Aunt invited us to the yearly outdoor spring celebration on her farm.
On the way, we decided to take a little side road as a shortcut (捷径). Just when we were in the very middle of nowhere, our car started making a strange noise. We had to call roadside service. We felt down as we were going to be late.
“We’re going to miss everything!” complained Tex.
“Look on the bright side,” said Dad, “Our car broke down in such a pretty place.” “I agree,” Mom said, taking out the picnic blanket (垫子). “How about walking over to that wildflower field and having our own springtime celebration?”
At first, the idea didn’t exactly make us kids jump up and down. But as we started looking around, cool things started happening.
“Hey!” Indi said quietly. “This huge butterfly landed on my knee!”
“She’s so beautiful.” I said. “Look, there are two lovely rabbits happily eating grass there!”
Just then, we heard a big sound, and hundreds of birds rose up out of the trees, and flew into the sky. “Wow, that is the most magical thing I’ve ever seen in my life!” I shouted.
Although the workers fixed our car, by then it was too late to get to the farm. So my parents let us eat cakes, and they were delicious! Anyway, it was a pretty special picnic.

UK schools try Chinese math
It’s well known that Chinese students often outperform (超过) their partners from others in math competitions. This is why the UK is going to try out Chinese math books and exercise papers in many of its schools.
According to China Daily, international publishers Collins Learning signed an agreement with Shanghai Century Publishing Group on March 14 to publish translated copies of Shanghai’s primary school math books. Under the agreement, Collins will print a series of 36 books, named Real Shanghai Mathematics. The series includes math textbooks, supplementary (补充性的) textbooks and teacher’s textbooks. Some primary schools in the UK will use the books for first to sixth graders in September.
The aim of this is to make UK students behave better in math by learning from the way Chinese schools teach their students the subject.
Chinese schools, represented by those in Shanghai, have marked high in math scores in all three rounds of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) since 2009. However, the UK scored far less, according to The Guardian. Still, some people worry that textbooks alone cannot solve the UK’s problem with math, as the education systems are so different.
One key difference is that Chinese schools focus on students as a whole, while those in the UK value personal performance. In Chinese schools, students are taught together as a class, with students all moving through their lessons one step at a time. However, in the UK, students in the same class are often given different work to do according to their progress.
There are also huge differences in teacher training and deployment (部署). Primary school math teachers in Shanghai teach only math for perhaps two hours a day, and the rest of the day is spent researching and improving lessons. English primary teachers are teaching all subjects, rather than specializing (专门研究) in a single area like math.
Another key difference is that students in China are likely to get far more homework than UK students. Many will also have private teachers and attend weekend school.
With so many differences in the two education systems, it remains to be seen whether Chinese math books will be good for students in the UK. However, UK Schools Minister Nick Gibb believes that they will be a huge help. “I am confident that the steps we are taking now will make sure young people are in proper preparation for further study and the 21st century workplace, and that the phrase “can’t do math” heard too often is only in the past,” he said.

前文提到“Grandpa held thin sticks connected to the puppets”,可知是通过移动这些棍子来让木偶移动,sticks“棍子”符合。
my“我的”、her“她的”、your“你的”均不符合语境。
give in“屈服”、give out“分发;发出”、give away“赠送;泄露”均不符合语境。

A.Stop doing your homework.
B.Send this emoji back to your father.
C.Go on playing with your mobile phone.
D.Put away your mobile phone and do your homework.
22.When your friend tells you online that he won the first prize in the writing competition, which emoji will you send him?
A. B. C. D.
23.Why does the writer introduce these four emoji?
A.Because they are more important. B.Because they are not so common.
C.To help the netizens use them easily. D.To help the netizens use them properly.
21.右上栏指出“It actually means that ‘“I saw what you did (usually bad things) and I want to give you a sinister (奸诈的) smile.”,这个表情意味着“我看到你所做的(通常是坏事),我想给你一个阴险的微笑。”,所以当你做作业偷玩手机时,你爸爸发这个表情应是提醒你“放下手机,去做作业”。
22.左下栏指出“The Apple company has said that this emoji means ‘high five (嗨,击掌).’”

If you try to stay open to what’s actually happening around you, you might just discover wonders beside you.

Have your friends been talking about “raising a lobster“ lately? No, not the seafood—they are talking about OpenClaw! It’s the hottest new AI tool.
OpenClaw was created by Peter Steinberger, a programmer from Austria. 31 That means developers worldwide can help improve it. Then what exactly is OpenClaw? It is an AI “agent” that can operate your mouse and keyboard. It’s like a super personal assistant (助手) in your computer! 32 So people call it "xiaolongxia", and using it is jokingly called “raising a lobster..
What makes it special? For a while, we have had AI tools like ChatGPT. They can advise, but they can’t do things for us. OpenClaw, on the other hand, actually gets things done. 33 You can wake up to a message about your top tasks without even asking.
But there are risks. OpenClaw needs high-level access (权限) to your computer. There have been cases where it went a little crazy. One AI expert’s OpenClaw forgot its instructions and started deleting (删除) all her emails! It could also make mistakes that cost money. 34 In February, important user data (数据) was put online without telling people. Hackers could use them to control users’ computers.
The ability of this technology is amazing, but its risks can be dangerous. 35 Next time you hear about “raising a lobster”, remember to weigh the benefits against the dangers.
A.Users need to be careful about what tasks they give it.
B.You can use it in chat apps, and its logo is a red lobster.
C.That’s why it’s wise to learn about the risks before using it.
D.He wanted to build an AI that could go beyond giving advice.
