It was Monday morning, and the ninth-grade classroom was in chaos. Mr. Wilde’s English 35 had disappeared from his desk over the weekend. The strange thing was that nothing else was taken—not the computer, not the money in the drawer, only the thirty-five homework papers.
Lily, a quiet but observant girl who loved detective novels, decided to investigate. She noticed three important clues that others had missed. First, there were faint 36 footprints near the teacher’s desk, though it hadn’t rained for days. Second, the window lock was broken from the 37 , not the outside. Third, she found a tiny 38 thread caught on the edge of the desk drawer.
Lily thought about who had been in the classroom last Friday. There was Zhang Wei, who had stayed after class to ask questions. There was also the cleaning lady, Mrs. Chen, who came every evening. And there was the 39 , Tom, who had borrowed the key to get a book he forgot.
Lily examined everyone’s shoes after the morning exercises. Zhang Wei wore black sneakers, clean and dry. Mrs. Chen wore comfortable brown shoes with a special pattern. Tom wore 40 with a little mud on the edges. Looking closer, Lily noticed Tom’s jacket had a small tear near the 41 , and the thread matched the blue thread she found!
When Lily quietly asked Tom about Friday evening, he looked 42 . “I just came to get my book,” he said quickly. But Lily remembered something: Tom had already submitted his homework 43 last week. Why would he need to take all the papers?
The real answer came when Lily checked the homework records. Tom hadn’t actually submitted his work. He had been absent on Friday when others submitted theirs. He must have taken all the papers so his missing homework wouldn’t be noticed!
Lily didn’t embarrass Tom publicly. Instead, she told Mr. Wilde what she found, and the teacher handled the situation privately. The mystery was solved not by magic, but by careful 44 and logical thinking—the true tools of any detective.

Artwork is lovely to look at, and it has the power to make people feel and think differently. But do you know that when people see a real work of art, rather than just looking at a photo of it, they are likely to experience stronger emotions (情绪)?
Scientists recently carried out a study at the Mauritshuis museum in The Hague, a city in the Netherlands. The museum is home to Girl with a Pearl Earring, a very famous painting by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer. It was painted in 1665.
① The researchers used eye-tracking equipment and a brain scanner to watch how people reacted to several paintings. First, the volunteers were asked to look at the real paintings on display, and then at photos of the artworks in the museum shop.
② It was shown that their emotional reactions were 10 times stronger when they looked at the real paintings. The most active part of the brain while looking at the artworks was the area that controls people’s personal identity (身份) and consciousness (意识).
③ How did that happen? By study, people may experience something called a “sustained attentional loop” when they watched a certain painting. The volunteers’ attention was first drawn to the girl’s left eye, then her mouth, then to her pearl earring. This certain order of eye movements repeated in a continuous loop. Each time they completed the cycle, their focus became stronger and their connection with Girl with a Pearl Earring was deeper, which meant that people stared at the painting for longer. Martin de Munnik, one of the researchers in this study, said, “That means you have to pay attention whether you want to or not.” It was as if the painting itself had a power to hold the viewers’ attention and guide their eye movement in a very involuntary (无意识的) way.
④ The director of the Mauritshuis, Martine Gosselink, said that the study shows how important it is to go and see art in real life, whether it’s paintings, photography or dancing. She added, “it really helps develop your brain.” The researchers are now eager to broaden their study, planning to visit other museums and do similar experiments on works like the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.

Passage 1
I soon saw two pirates (海盗) lying on the deck. One was dead, and the other, Israel Hands, was badly hurt and calling for rum (朗姆酒). I went down to the broken cabins and found some food, a bottle of rum, and water. I gave Hands the rum, and his face soon turned red again.
“I am taking over this ship,” I told him. “I’m your captain (船长) now.” I took down the Jolly Roger and threw it into the sea. Hands watched me quietly with a cold smile. He said he could help me sail to North Inlet if I gave him food and tied up his wound. I agreed, and soon we were moving smoothly along the coast.
When we reached the beach, I was too busy sailing the ship to watch him. Suddenly, I turned around and found Hands standing behind me with a knife. I jumped away and climbed up the ropes as quickly as I could. I prepared my pistols (手枪) and warned him not to move.
At once, he threw his knife. It hit my shoulder and I got pinned to the mast (桅杆). My pistols fired, and Hands fell into the sea. I pulled the knife out and swam ashore.

Passage 2
(Captain Hook caught the children and locked them in the pirate ship. )
As Peter Pan was flying towards the ship, he passed the crocodile . It swallowed a clock that went “tick, tick” inside it before. However, the clock wasn’t ticking then. Peter realized it must stop. He began tickling himself so that the other animals would think he was the crocodile and leave him alone. The crocodile, thinking that Peter took the clock, followed him. But when Peter reached the ship, Captain Hook believed the crocodile was coming to get him. Peter climbed over the side of the ship and went into a room. He barked like a dog, and all the pirates were very afraid. To check out what was going on, Hook sent in the children. Inside, Peter set them free, and they prepared to fight.
Peter ran out to meet Hook. “It is me, Peter Pan!” he cried.
“Get him!” cried Hook.
The pirates ran at Peter, and the lost boys ran forward to fight them. The pirates were stronger, but they were so afraid of the ticking and the noise of the dog that they didn’t fight well. Finally, only Hook was ready to fight. Peter came to fight him. For a long time, the two enemies stood face to face.
They began to fight. At last, Peter hit Hook with his sword (剑). Hook began to bleed. Hook continued to fight, but he was not strong anymore. He knew he was going to die. He ran to the side of the ship and jumped into the sea. He did not know the crocodile was waiting for him, as it no longer ticked. The crocodile ate him right away.

【答案】52.C 53.A 54.B 55.C
【解析】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了《金银岛》和《彼得·潘》中两位少年英雄对抗海盗的故事。
52.根据Passage 1中最后一段“It hit my shoulder and I got pinned to the mast.”可知,我是被钉在桅杆上,不能动弹,此处pin意为 “按住;使不能动弹”,C项句意为“大风把他按在墙上,让他无法动弹”,和原文词义一致。
53.根据Passage 1的第三段“I jumped away and climbed up the ropes as quickly as I could. I prepared my pistols (手枪) and warned him not to move.”及Passage 2中第一段“He began ticking himself so that the other animals would think he was the crocodile and leave him alone.”可知,Jim在受伤后立刻拔枪反击,Peter在发现钟表停摆后马上模仿滴答声伪装,都体现了快速决策;根据Passage 1的最后一段“My pistols fired, and Hands fell into the sea”及Passage 2的第四段“Finally only Hook was ready to fight. Peter came to fight him. For a long time, the two enemies stood face to face.”可知,两人都勇敢对抗海盗,展现出了极大勇气;根据Passage 1的最后一段“My pistols fired, and Hands fell into the sea”及Passage 2的最后一段“Hook continued to fight, but he was not strong any more. What was the best gift I ever received? Well, I’m a music lover, so I’d have to say it was either a Spotify subscription or my top-of-the-range Sony MDR-7506 headphones. Together they’ve provided me with countless hours of high-quality audio accompaniment. Growing up in a loving, well-off family in one of the richest countries in the world, what more could I want?
Giving gifts to loved ones is great: it’s a rewarding way to spread joy and strengthen friendships and family ties. But at this time of year I’m always reminded of how many people not only get no presents but also lack the basics to allow them to live healthy lives. For me, luxury headphones were the perfect gift; for the world’s poorest, it would be nutritious food, clean water and health care.
The poorest 10% of the world’s population, some 700 million people, live on less than $1.90 per day. And that’s adjusting for local purchasing power: they live on what $1.90 would buy in the U.S. Faced with this kind of budget, and often geographically isolated, they are forced to eat whatever they can find and drink and wash in unsafe water. They can only pray that they don’t succumb to malnutrition, malaria or any number of other diseases that, while perfectly curable in rich countries, frequently ruin or end lives in the developing world.
I don’t seek to make anyone feel guilty for exchanging luxury goods with the people they love. But it seems to me that there’s another type of giving that is, if anything, even more profound: giving the basics of life to those most in need. Sure, you might not get a thank-you letter (who does these days?), but you’ll have done something extraordinary.
However, I’m not just interested in people giving more to charity (although that is important). I’m also passionate about people giving smarter, because where you give can make a huge difference on the impact you’ll have.
What do I mean by that? Well, to start with, there’s a reason I’ve been talking about the developing world. Even average earners in the West are incredibly rich compared with the global poor, so a sum of money considered moderate for some could make a huge difference in the poorest countries.
That’s not to say that all developing world poverty-relief charities are good at making a difference—that’s certainly not the case. Plenty of money donated in good faith is lost to local corruption, poor administration or programs of intervention that sound great in theory but don’t achieve much in practice. As a result, it’s crucial to look at the effectiveness of the work a charity does before committing your money. How much good does it achieve for each dollar donated? Is there robust evidence for the impact of its programs?
It’s not always easy for people to find the answers, but they are vital questions to ask. That’s why there are now organizations devoted to finding and promoting the best charities. As part of the effective-altruism (利他主义) movements, they are dedicated to helping people make the biggest possible difference with their donations.
I love my music, and I love my headphones. But this year, the best gift I could get is to see as many people as possible giving generously to the most effective charities in the world.
56.What does the phrase “succumb to” (paragraph 3, line 5) mean?
A.be unaffected by B.cease opposition to
C.be unconnected with D.help to cause
57.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A.The author thinks that people giving luxury gifts to the ones they love should feel guilty.
B.The author believes that there is nothing more he wants because he grows up in very rich family.
C.The author argues that compared with those poor, an ordinary worker in the West doesn’t earn much.
D.The author says that some diseases which might be deadly in poor countries can be cured in developed countries.
58.Which of the following statements can you possibly infer from the passage?
A.People used to receive a letter of compliment from the receiver after they donated money to charities.
B.Giving smarter means that those who donate should know clearly how the charity works with the government.
C.Some charity programs fail to achieve much and seem to be less effective because they are not very practical.
D.The organizations devoted to finding the best charities aim to appeal to people to donate more money.
59.Which of the following is the best title of the passage?
A.Giving the basics of life to those in need B.Giving best gifts to your beloved ones
C.Making the best gift count D.The effective-altruism movement
根据文章第三段“They can only pray that they don’t succumb to malnutrition, malaria or any number of other diseases that, while perfectly curable in rich countries, frequently ruin or end lives in the developing world.”
根据文章第三段“They can only pray that they don’t succumb to malnutrition, malaria or any number of other diseases that, while perfectly curable in rich countries, frequently ruin or end lives in the developing world.”可知,一些在贫穷国家可能致命的疾病在发达国家是可以治愈的。故选D。
58.推理判断题。根据文章第七段“That’s not to say that all developing world poverty-relief charities are good at making a difference—that’s certainly not the case. Plenty of money donated in good faith is lost to local corruption, poor administration or programs of intervention that sound great in theory but don’t achieve much in practice.”

As we move further into the digital age, the human attention time is decreasing rapidly. We’re struggling to focus on single tasks for long periods of time. We are easy to get distract… oh, look at that dog We need an approach that makes information easier to pick up. Enter microlearning.
Microlearning is a way of gaining knowledge that breaks information into bite-sized pieces, typically five to ten minutes long. Actually, microlearning has been around for as long as human beings have been learning. However, the use of the term “microlearning” and its rise in popularity is a relatively new thing with the increased spread of the Internet and the popularization of e-learning. Microlearning is perfect for today’s learners because they’re always on the go. This means they can learn on their commute (通勤), lunch break and more.
The neuroscience (神经科学) behind microlearning partly explains why it works so well. It uses the cognitive skills learning system in our brain, the main system for learning skills and helping with short-term memory. The use of spaced repetition also plays a part. Research suggests we learn better when we study a little at a time, not all at once. It helps to fight against the Forgetting Curve, which suggests we forget 90% of the information we learn within a week. After all, each repetition provides a new opportunity to practice active recall. Think of those flashcards you made for an exam. You created small pieces of content and looked at them over and over again until they were input in your memory
With its bite-sized knowledge, microlearning allows you to learn at your own pace, offering more flexibility (灵活). Content can be tailored (裁剪) to meet your specific needs, preferences, and learning styles, allowing for personalized learning experiences. Also, it reduces stress, and increases productivity. When you have a lot of things to do, you may feel stressed. By breaking content down into short and easy units, it makes learning feel less challenging. Nice!
Microlearning may be small but it sure is great. It’s easy to find, quick to complete and super effective. What’s not to love?
65.What is microlearning?
66.Why is microlearning so effective according to neuroscience?
67.How does microlearning reduce stress?
68.Would you like to use microlearning in your study? Why or why not (at least two reasons)?

We often think of dopamine (多巴胺) as the “reward” hormone (奖赏荷尔蒙), but that’s just part of the story. So it’s beneficial for us to understand how it works.
Now I kindly ask you to look a little deeper. Dopamine doesn’t just make us feel good—it also teaches our brain what to expect when we do new things. From there, it helps our brain to create habits which run on automatically (自动地)—the more dopamine, the more the brain hears “this action is meaningful! Let’s do it again!”
Of course, habits can help us or harm us; if you reach for your phone first in the morning, or take out a book and write down three things you look forward to that day, both can become habits which can run on automatically, but they each will have different influences on your health. So how can we use dopamine to design healthier habits?
Each time we finish an action, our dopamine responds (反应). When an action meets what we expect, dopamine won’t change greatly. However, it drops when the result is worse than what we expect, and rises when we have a result that is better than what we expect. This teaches your brain which actions are meaningful. So, a dopamine drop tells us ‘let’s not do that again.’ When dopamine doesn’t change greatly, it means the action can make a difference. And if dopamine becomes more, it tells us ‘let’s do this again!’ The brain uses this system to help us form healthy habits.
By creating positive, small surprises by ourselves, we move from being pushed to becoming active designers of our habits, using dopamine not only for pleasure, but also for long-term health.
Dopamine is often seen as the “reward” hormone, but that’s just part of the story. Therefore, we can 74 understanding clearly how it works. Dopamine not only makes us feel good, but also helps the brain create habits that run on automatically. Habits can be 75 , so we should learn to use dopamine to design healthier ones. The way dopamine works to form habits is easy to understand: each time we finish an action, dopamine responds. It goes down if the result is 76 , and rises if it’s better than expected. With this system, 77 . In this way, dopamine becomes a tool not just for pleasure, but for building a healthier life in the long term.

48.We can put the following sentence “The team also found that the group reacted even more strongly to Girl with a Pearl Earring.” in ________.
A.① B.② C.③ D.④
49.How does the writer introduce the “sustained attentional loop”?

50.Why was Mona Lisa mentioned at the end of the passage?
A.To introduce a world-famous art work. B.To explain the plan for further research.
C.To show the researchers’ love for it. D.To prove its influence on people’s brain.

A.The author thinks that people giving luxury gifts to the ones they love should feel guilty.
